1141  Other / Off-topic / Re: PAPARouter - Plug and Play Anonymity Router on: May 09, 2014, 11:49:03 PM
Hello phptaskforce!
I'm the guy to talk to about it because I am the guy who builds them.  Grin

PAPARouter, for the most part, isn't anything unique. All it happens to be is a Raspberry Pi running Debian that's been set up as a wireless access point that accepts anything wireless that you can hook to it. It will then port forward to Tor and ship out the bytes. I wish I could take credit for it, but the original idea was put together by the brilliant technologist Limor Fried at ADAFruit. You can see it here. https://www.adafruit.com/products/1406. You could build it yourself for about $95.00 or just buy the PAPARouter, already built and running out of the box, for $99.00.
I did enhance it to remove US and US intelligence friendly exit nodes so  there is that.  Smiley
We were also recently reviewed by FreedomHacker.net and got 4 out of 5 stars. ( http://freedomhacker.net/paparouter-review/#.U21jvcdhu6A )

The reason why it exists is to fill a void. Not everyone is a technician and can install Tor ( or at least competently) on their laptop/PC so I did gear it towards people who just want to plug it in and go.

That being said there are practical reasons to use a router and not install it on your laptop/PC. The first being that you don't need to install separate Tor clients on all of your devices. Another is that Tor consumes a lot of cycles and you can offload those cycles onto a dedicated appliance and leave your rig to do what it needs to do.

The latter has spawned a new market with scrapers, some sites like to scrape others for comparison shopping, etc and it's good for making sure that their identity isn't compromised and having their access chopped off at the IP level.

There was a great story published in BetaBoston about how women's shelters are using Tor to protect women who come there. ( http://betaboston.com/news/2014/05/07/as-domestic-abuse-goes-digital-shelters-turn-to-counter-surveillance-with-tor/ )
I love this use of the technology and am planning to start offering it at cost to any women's shelter that wants it.

Overall, PAPARouter is just a ready built solution for anyone who wants Tor. If anyone here decides to order one, I'll even give you $10.00 off on it. Just email me at admin@paparouter.com before submitting your order so I get a heads up.

Julian
PAPARouter

also you you should come out with a router that encypts data, not depening on the tor network would be a good product to sell your items

This is defintly a promotion thread, why didt you just go straight to product section and instead of making two accounts to advertise yourself.
1143  Economy / Economics / Re: Facebook accepts Bitcoin? on: May 09, 2014, 09:51:53 PM
With BTC it will never happen.

FB would more likely create their own coin and sell and accept it.

Thats what I would do if I were greedy  Grin

They already using facebooks problem with facebooks in only used in the facebook network,  they are clearly losing out if they dont accept bitcoin for there advertising stream.

Yes supposley they are tests going on with it right now that facebook will accept bitcoin for advertising networks.  Here is a link of it, not sure if its baloney but hope that answers questions so guys ya better start buying ur bitcoins.

1144  Economy / Economics / Re: Health Plan Premiums Are Skyrocketing According To New Survey on: May 09, 2014, 09:38:05 PM
What trend do you guys see coming down the pipe the next few years?
The way employees buy insurance is going to change as is the way employers subsidize it. There was a good article in Barron's the week before last about the big consultants (AON, Mercer etc) ramping up the defined contribution private exchange model. That will, in theory, give employees access to a choice of more than one carrier and plan; but this model will probably impact employee costs more than the increases in the premium trends...
The same way pensions moved from the defined benefit model to the defined contribution/401k model.
I think we will see less and less mid-level companies offering insurance (or only offering it to higher-level jobs) over the next 5+ years as all this is ramping up so there will be more people enrolled to fund the ACA. Even with the penalties being leveraged to change healthcare insurance from a perk to a "right" I think a lot of employers will go the low-road. That and continually lowering hours for those same mid to low level employees.

If you have more than 50 full time employees you have to offer coverage or pay a penalty. The penalty of not offering is $2,000 on every full time employee. The penalty is also not a tax deduction. Offering the plan to only your key people is worse than offering nothing to anyone. Unless you're offering the plan to 95% of your full time folks you'll owe the no-offer $2,000 per person penalty in addition to what you're paying on the plan for the key employees. (Not to mention the non-discrimination headaches that would be triggered.)

I don't know what you mean by more people will be enrolled to fund the ACA. Plans are currently being subjected to three distinct fees. The comparative effectiveness research fee, the health insurer assessment (fully insured plans) and the temporary reinsurance program. It's my understanding that the assessment and temporary reinsurance program go directly to the individual pools and exchanges.

The road of least resistance is for an employer is to offer a rich plan and a lower end plan (maybe more options) and price them such that the execs and key people are the ones that can afford the rich plan and the lower plan doesn't cost more than 9.5% of your lowest paid employee's income.

This is why the defined contribution model is looking attractive at the moment. Offer the plans, offer the contribution your employees choose what the want to spend it on.

The hours thing is absolutely happening to employees on the cusp of 30 hours. Those guys will be scheduled for no more than 27 hours going forward.

1146  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The Bitcoin Foundation Must Remove Satoshi as Founder on: May 09, 2014, 07:35:45 PM
Satoshi Nakamoto was not a founder of the bitcoin foundation. It  is highly unethical for him to be listed as a founder. It is not an honorary title. Satoshi created a decentralised system. He would hate the foundation's centralisation.

Now that a highly controversial figure has been elected to the board I think it is imperative that the foundation stops claiming legitimacy by stating that Satoshi was in any way a founder or in any way approved of that rotten centalisation.

If he was a founder then they would have known him, they are just trying to use his name to sound like they are the official foundation of bitcoin, which is a lie.  What they are doing is unethical.  Take off satoshi from the board, he may be welcomed there but dont claim you know him.  I agree with the Op

People should know by now that I am a freedom of speech extremist, you have every right to say whatever you like

Bwahahahahhahahaha holy shit, Lethn. Just when I think you can't get any more moronic or hypocritical or just downright contradictory you come out with that gem. So, you're a 'freedom of speech extremist'... until somebody says something you don't like or can't argue against, then click goes that ignore button. Yeah, you really believe in freedom of speech all right  Roll Eyes.

I dont hate homosexuality.  So your basically saying my freind didnt become gay cause he wasnt molested?  Its wasnt his choice to get sexually harrassed by another men who was gay and sick.

How do you know conclusively it was the abuse that caused him to become gay?

Dont know but he told me he did the same mistake because of it, and that he started to like it.  So with him getting to learn to like a feeling in love or to be touched by a female he got exposed to being felt by another man first.  By the way im ending it here.  Its my opinion and beleif and no one has to take my side for it.

Well its a controversey google it, its called "The nature and nurture controversy.   Like for example a friend of mine was molested, molestation has caused him to become gay.  Now if the boy is born with a femenistic chartarstic he might be gay cause of a mistake in nature, he was born that way.  This is the nature and nurture controversey.

That's called being a judgemental prick and reinforcing that on everybody else through abuse of the law, if people want to be gay or your children want to be gay that's their fucking business and just so you know I'm aware of the beliefs of other people on this thread and on this forum and I'm not picking on you in particular. Equally though, people should know by now that I am a freedom of speech extremist, you have every right to say whatever you like about homosexuals but equally I have every right to call you a moron and if somebody wants to make a video game featuring only straight sex that's their choice, equally, if somebody wants to make a game that only has homosexual relationships in it or even both that's their choice to make as well.

My main point is both sides are just as bad because they're using harassing tactics and political pressure to try and override a private citizen or company making their own choices in life just because they don't like what they have to say, I think people who hate homosexuals are morons, but I'm not going to go organise a protest movement, use political pressure or harass them because of that, I will say it to their faces though.

I dont hate homosexuality.  So your basically saying my freind didnt become gay cause he wasnt molested?  Its wasnt his choice to get sexually harrassed by another men who was gay and sick.  Also when I was in Europe, there were kids that had feminine charteristics but they werent gay cause they are not exposed to it as the Westerners are.  SO there is no choice to be given, is taught from what is right and wrong.  One day Its going to marry young girls too in werstern society.  Its all the same thing, is that we lost all morality and being in touch with religion this has happened.

I myself was deleted by the irish man and I wanna support what nintendo descision in not allowing two same sex relationship in the game.  Also  wanted to know this doesnt allow children who are not naturally gay to comprehend being gay is ok.    Im saying this due to the nature and nurture controversy stand point of view

Could you please copy-paste exactly the same comment here? Want to check myself whether it is offensive by any means.
I said this maybe it was offensive "I agree with this as we dont have enough of movies and TV showing this its ok to be gay.  Im not to judge homosexuality but to me this can just lead children into getting curious, not being gay from nature point of you"

You're either gay or you're not. Straight kids don't see homosexual or homoerotic acts on TV or video games and suddenly become bi-curious or gay. And what do you mean by 'not being gay from nature point of you'?

Well its a controversey google it, its called "The nature and nurture controversy.   Like for example a friend of mine was molested, molestation has caused him to become gay.  Now if the boy is born with a femenistic chartarstic he might be gay cause of a mistake in nature, he was born that way.  This is the nature and nurture controversey.
1150  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: what are the chances that more than 21 million bitcoin will be created? on: May 09, 2014, 02:32:51 PM
As in modifying the code on an agreement with all parties involved, is there a chance people might want more than 21 million Bitcoins?

Pretty good chance it will happen if bitcoin survives long enough into the future. Given the right leaders and the right circumstances the masses can be manipulated to support anything you can possibly think off. They got manipulated to support hitler. They got manipulated to support a war in Iraq and Afghanistan. Anything is possible.
If that happens I would be really upset and alot of others too will be upset.  I dont think the ones that have the most bitcoins would want that to happen surely it wont be allowed to happen.  Hence reason why Litecoin and others are here.

I have  a question if you post im image while writing constructive posts, is that spamming?  Since you have in image or logo?

Not sure if I understand you correctly, but writing a constructive post and posting an image along with it is fine (unless the image is completely irrelevant or you're advertising something).

Yes thats what I meant if the picture you post on the bottom of every page you write a post will consitute as spamming.

1155  Economy / Economics / Re: Health Plan Premiums Are Skyrocketing According To New Survey on: May 09, 2014, 01:02:31 PM
I always wonder what the basis is when they say "premiums are rising" because there are about 11ty billion things that one could call premium all changing at the same time, so that kind of blanket statement always makes me curious and some of the things that come to mind for example are filed rates, group risk premiums, non risk premiums, individual premiums, some amalgamation of those? Its just a very nebulous statement that really tells you nothing...but that's probably the point.

While probably true it does not make the report untrue. Insurance and price is all about risk. Since you can't segment high risk members into higher-priced policies due to ACA the agencies have to increase rates to ensure they don't lose their shirts.

At what point are we doing more good than bad from a monetary perspective?

It does make the report, at best, misleading. Asking a broker "how much did your clients' premiums change from 2013 to 2014" then publishing their "findings" doesn't mean much of anything.

In CA, as an example, individual and small group premium tables are filed and approved by the state. A much more interesting and beneficial report would have been analyzing the premiums filed with the state against the benefits.

1158  Other / Politics & Society / Re: our USA education system sucks and is obsolete on: May 09, 2014, 12:30:23 PM
The future of education will all be online.

Sure kids might go some place with teachers assistants or a type of "babysitter" for a few hours to work on their online assignments, but it will still all be done online.

Florida already offers a full, free curriculum online where you can get full credit including a high school diploma.

The teacher's union is unionizing teachers right out of a job.

On a side note regarding "education paradigms", most of college, and much of grad school could easily be done online. I haven't gone to a single lecture after like 4 months of starting, since I can get everything online and there are better teachers out there than what most schools offer (Khan Academy etc).

But with the huge demand for country club campuses and government guaranteeing loans (even if you pursue something like art history), tuition will never stop increasing.
