11401  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Gold-plated Bitcoin bearer bar on: June 05, 2017, 06:40:32 AM
Was there ever a mintage number of the non-denominational ones released?
Did you just dig out a 6 year old thread? That's necromancy at its finest!

The question is still relevant and I see the user is still posting on the forum. Necroposting can sometimes bring out the good stuff from the archives. The Casascius physical bitcoins are still in fashion and people are more interested in them, when the price hits these record levels.

You tend to dig out all those old coins, when the price goes crazy. ^smile^ < Brag rights for a good investment >

Ps.. One of those 100BTC bars would have been worth $253 800 today.
11402  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The impact of micro-transaction on Bitcoin on: June 05, 2017, 06:22:42 AM
Some of these wallet providers are "stealing" from people. They fail to adjust the fees, when the recommended fee goes down. < They profit from users not knowing what the recommended fees are supposed to be, at the time of the transaction > I always make a screen capture of https://bitcoinfees.21.co/ when I make a transaction via these services, to use as evidence, when I want to take them on. ^smile^

We are not only getting screwed by the Bitcoin miners, but by some of these services too. ^grrrrr^
11403  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Transaction Fees and Segwit on: June 05, 2017, 06:11:18 AM
I'm a crypto trader and while I monitor the markets daily, I don't understand a lot of the technical aspects surrounding bitcoin. So, I have a couple questions.

1. I just sent a transaction worth about $5k, and paid almost $30 in fees. From what I can remember from my past transactions, it was nowhere near this. In fact, I found one that I sent a couple months ago worth about $7k and the fee was only $6. I used bread wallet for both of these transactions. Is there an explanation for this and is there anything I can do to prevent this? From what I can tell, sending ETH is far more economical and faster, I might add.

2. I've been hearing a lot about Segwit and I think I get the general idea of it, but can anybody tell me what this might do to the price in bitcoin? Or if Segwit is definitely going to be the solution here? Every day I grow tired of the bitcoin nonsense (bickering, long confirmation times, high fees) and every day the temptation to switch all funds over to ETH grows stronger.

I appreciate all responses and input. Hope you are all having a nice day.

Thanks!

CORRECTION: My fee was $60USD!!! That's more than 10% of the amount I was trying to transact. Surely there is something I can do to prevent this. Does it depend on when I send it?

Not to spoil your party, but can you possibly provide proof of this? You can edit out the sensitive and personal information. We have had some people coming to the forum and complaining about extra high fees and when we ask for proof, they fail to deliver.

This tells me some people make up stories about these high fees or they blame Bitcoin when wallet services charge extra high fees, when it was not necessary.  ^hmmmmmm^

There are examples where some services increased the fees, when the Mempool were normal. ^grrrrr^
11404  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Inputs and Outputs? on: June 05, 2017, 05:52:04 AM
This is also the reason why people will advise newbies not to collect "dust" from faucets in their main address. These are all those micro payments that will go to one address and this will increase the miners fees, once you try to spend it. The smaller transactions should rather go through off-chain services like Xapo, where they will add up and then be transferred on-chain when enough Satoshi's were collected. ^smile^ < The withdrawal from these services will cancel out all these micro transactions and only 1 on-chain transaction is added to your Bitcoin address. >
11405  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Best and Most Accurate Cryptocurrency News Forums on: June 02, 2017, 06:32:26 AM
You have to use a combination of resources, like Twitter / Facebook groups / Youtube channels and also Crypto currency sections in forums, like https://www.cryptotalk.org/

If you can sort through the noise in this section, https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?board=67.0 then it will also be helpful.

I also find https://bitcoinmagazine.com/ helpful at times. < not always >
11406  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Are we over complicating Bitcoin? on: June 02, 2017, 06:15:33 AM
It can't be simplified. Because the elements in the system are complicated. So we should do continuous learning. It's the time of begining of adoption of bitcoin.

The end user should not see the difference. If a bank changed it's ledger system, you as the client should not be bothered by the changes. < Suddenly faced with choices that you do not understand > Bitcoin is a global technology and it is used in some 3rd world countries with educational challenges.

Bitcoin developers should hide the technical side, and mimic the ease of use these people have with cash. Why would these people adopt a technology/currency that they do not understand?
11407  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Mining pools shut down in China with no clear reasons on: June 02, 2017, 06:04:08 AM
I think they might have some issues with wet coal in the wet season too, because most of these coal are stored in the open and in the dry season the coal is dry and more efficient. Wet coal being less efficient will increase electricity prices in the wet season, so these miners might be going north to operate in an environment where there are no seasonal influences in the electricity prices.

It is all about efficiency, because cheaper electricity = more profits. ^smile^
11408  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Is this normal? Btc address with negative balance on: June 02, 2017, 05:53:36 AM
12AKRNHpFhDSBDD9rSn74VAzZSL3774PxQ  A btc address like any other, but the amount displayed for this address seems to be  incorrect, any explanations?

yes, it is perfectly possible on a buggy platform called blockchain.info!
they actually used to show these kinds of stuff differently with a red warning on top of the page saying this address has done a double spend but i don't know why they removed it!

and this transaction is causing the bug in that block explorer: https://blockchain.info/tx/a35a5c0b334098c70bd2d955d0ecb23075eca72f42d3bf90b8a2f50fcddd07b9

and it is because the "balance" field is just a simple sum of (received - send) and since there is an additional "invalid" transaction which they don't drop for some weird reason the sum is negative.

To add to this for the people who has some difficulty understanding the difference between The Bitcoin Blockchain and  https://blockchain.info < Believe me, there are loads of them >

https://blockchain.info is a site with software or tools like a Block explorer that is used to represent the Bitcoin Blockchain < It puts it into a nice GUI for everyone to read more easily >

So what Pooya87 is saying is that the tools or the software that https://blockchain.info is using is buggy and not the actual Bitcoin Blockchain. ^smile^

Use Blockexplorer.com as a alternative for https://blockchain.info
11409  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Do you think ISIS uses Bitcoin? on: June 02, 2017, 05:43:25 AM
How useless would Bitcoin be, if there were things that you would not be able to do with it. < Good or Bad> We know ISIS is using dollars and other currencies to finance their operations, so why do we need to put Bitcoin in the spotlight? A terrorist can come into the country with fiat currencies or they can use stolen debit or credit cards.

Let's be honest, most people will rather use cash for these criminal actions, because it is more anonymous. ^grrrrrr^
11410  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Real life usage of bitcoin on: June 02, 2017, 05:37:14 AM
This is why Bitcoin is so great! You can use it as a commodity and a store of value and you can use it as a currency. Before we had all these spam attacks and scaling issues, we used it for both. Lately people use it less as a currency, because the fees are too high and the confirmations take too long.

We are hoping that this will change after the 1 Aug 2017, when the first step is taken to solve the scaling problems.
11411  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: BREAKING NEWS: BTC Now Available To British Investors on: June 02, 2017, 05:30:38 AM
This is kinda like the approval of a ETF by the SEC to allow bigger investors to enter the Bitcoin scene. The UK has been Bitcoin friendly for a while now, but this will open the door to more serious investors and not just the average Bitcoin enthusiast. ^smile^

Japan is leading the way for mainstream adoption and we are seeing this happen with every bit of good news coming from governments that are changing their attitude towards Bitcoin.
11412  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: New Guy/Need Guidance on: June 01, 2017, 07:01:25 AM
Have you tried Gemini yet? https://www.cryptocompare.com/exchanges/gemini/overview You will see they are saying it is specifically mentioning Washington DC as one of the states that are supported. ^smile^

For more information, read more here : https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gemini_(digital_currency_exchange)

Hope this was of any use, some people have moved away from Coinbase to Gemini, due to Coinbase's poor support and attitude towards it users and lately some capacity issues.
11413  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2017-06-01]Breaking: Chinese Exchanges May Have Resumed Bitcoin Withdrawals on: June 01, 2017, 06:07:34 AM
I doubt if this is going to have a massive impact on the price. When these exchanges closed withdrawals, most Chinese traders moved onto other platforms to trade. The opening of the withdrawals will only allow for some of the traders to withdraw whatever coins/fiat that were stored on these exchanges at the time to be transferred to these other platforms.

The Chinese traders might have trust issues to continue using the exchanges that closed their withdrawals. It also happened in other countries where governments closed/restricted banks. < Greece >
11414  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Are we over complicating Bitcoin? on: June 01, 2017, 05:52:44 AM
Not true, 99% of all people involved in crypto can't even communicate in the society properly, I'm one of them. all we really care is the ability to keep our coins safe in our wallets, ability to do transactions without delays and dramas. I really don't care what happens behind the scenes all I care is to know my coins hold any value and that there are some people around the world willing to buy and sell to me with a reasonable price.
All I care is to know that I'm able to send bitcoins to any address and receive to any address but if one day I send some coins to someone and they say they didn't receive and my coins disappear somehow, that's when I kiss bitcoin good bye.

Then my statements are true for you too. If you are worried about the security of your coins, then you should know where to store them and what coins to buy and to sell. By the look of things after the 1st of Aug 2017, you might have a Chain split with legacy coins and whatnot. < You will have to make choices on your existing coins & coins you are going to buy >

You might even have to find out what type of coins are accepted at which merchant or service where you are storing or using your coins. < These Hard forks and/or soft forks are causing a lot of confusion with people >  ^grrrrrrr^
11415  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Give your child/ren a bright future! on: June 01, 2017, 05:41:38 AM
I would much rather provide for their future by using my hoard to pay for their further education and to provide them with the tools to be a success. A lot of my friends has given their children money to start their future and they bought cars and expensive notebooks and stuff like that, which in my opinion was a stupid move.

Start a small Bitcoin business or pay for their education and they can build their own future. Easy money, goes quickly.
11416  Economy / Micro Earnings / Re: [ANN] SatoshiGalaxy - Browser MMORPG + BTC Faucet on: June 01, 2017, 05:27:52 AM
I tried this site a while ago, and when I wanted to register it prompted me that I need to use at least 5 symbols and 1 letter in the front and 1 number in my username field. < I tried several times, but failed, and when I tried a normal username with no symbols and numbers, it went through successfully. >

The popup notes next to the Username & Password fields on registration is confusing. I was amazed at the activity when I finally managed to login to the game. ^smile^
11417  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What happens in future to your BTC if they are stored on hard wallet ? on: June 01, 2017, 05:20:43 AM
Most hardware wallets use the same memory as a USB memory stick and they usually only last about 10 years, depending on how much it is used. These hardware wallets come with a Seed, and this Seed is very important. If something goes wrong with the device, you can use this Seed to restore the wallet onto another device or onto another wallet.

IMPORTANT : Keep the Seed in a safe place. ^smile^
11418  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: BITCOIN IS TRAVELING PLACES!!! on: June 01, 2017, 05:16:47 AM
Japan is currently the only country where the government have opened their doors to Bitcoin with little or no limitations. The rest of the world have crippled the technology with strict rules based on KYC/AML regulations. Some still have issues with it's definition as a currency or a commodity. ^hmmmmm^

India had a heated debate on the subject this week and Russia is still considering it's options.
11419  Economy / Micro Earnings / Re: I just won $20 at FreeBitco.in on: May 31, 2017, 08:17:46 AM
There is a specific thread for people who have won at FreeBitco.in here : https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1850855.0

We would encourage people to use one thread to do this and not report it separately otherwise this whole section would be covered with topics related to Freebitco.in wins. Congratulations on your win, hope you spend it wisely. ^smile^

Now if we can only see the big Lotto winners doing the same thing, then this will be one of my favorite Bitcoin sites, but that is not happening. ^hmmmmmm^

11420  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: ANN : Shitcointalk: The Greatest Show On Earth on: May 31, 2017, 06:42:34 AM
You guys have surely chosen your subject matter well, with new Shitcoin being added frequently, you would not run out of topics soon. As of today 4218 cryptocoins are shown on https://www.cryptocoincharts.info/coins/info so you have a world of subject to choose from. ^smile^

I was part of a Crypto currency forum and our Alt coin section was always the most active section. Watched a few vids and liked the content, so keep up the shit work. ^heh^
