11421  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Isn't scammers a huge stopper to the internet (Bitcoin) on: May 21, 2019, 05:02:07 PM
First and foremost, we have to understand that scams, frauds and deceptions can be happening to any industry and definitely this is not an exclusive issue with the world of cryptocurrency. There had been so many financial frauds in the modern human history and there were even involving banks and financial institutions to the detriment of their many victims. Now, scams and frauds became easier and even went global with the coming of the internet and then now with cryptocurrency.

I agree with you.
Scammers are everywhere, in every industry. The problem we have in cryptocurrencies is that the lack of regulations turned out to be a good situation for scammers, incentiving them. Especially during bull runs and ico crazy.

Ethereum is becoming the platform for them. On the othed hand, Bitcoin is somehow safer , except for the forks, which is a good place for them to scam people.

Why didn't you include Topic: [GUIDES] on Bitcointalk. Index thread (until there is a dedicated subforum?)

Edit:
Sorry, it's not a data on bitcointalk...
11423  Other / Meta / Re: Plagiarism should remain a zero-tolerance bannable offense on: May 21, 2019, 04:32:28 PM
Plagiarism is not a simple mistake in most cases, it's a conscious decision that people make in order to increase their post count and make money off of that.
Frankly, anyone who engages in copying other people's work without giving proper credit for it, should get banned immediately without any exceptions.
This is utter bullshit. I almost made this mistake today, and the only thing that reminded me to review my post was all this plagiarism paranoia that has been going on the past few days. I did not even know where the thing that I posted was from, i.e. had absolutely no idea it was plagiarism without a source until I looked it up.

I really don't know how someone could make a mistake like that. I mean the chances of you accidentally writing the same content as someone else, word-for-word, are just so small.

I agree with this.
If you read a funny Tweet or something like that and you wanna say it again and you don't k ow the source , just write"I read this on Twitter, but I don't know where" or something like that.

This may be a problem for content writers, people who write articles.. they may be plagiarising their own articles by mistake. But this ban could be reversed (I think)

Maybe there could be some different punishment for old plagiarism (like 3-4 years, which is cellard case I believe). Maybe he should just receive a warning or a sig ban

I think that's testnet "legacy compatible segwit".

That's really testnet. Why don't you try on the mainnet,?

https://live.blockcypher.com/btc-testnet/tx/346a4733f64874102f6cc18c552d9e6862947a59ea02815b2fb434e450714bdd/

I think 1300 bytes is a lot to. Something may be different because of testnet?. I simulated here https://www.buybitcoinworldwide.com/fee-calculator/ and the total was 600 for legacy and 450 for segwit.

https://www.advcash.com/en/

11429  Economy / Web Wallets / Re: Worst Online Crypto Wallet Ever! [Poll] on: May 20, 2019, 02:36:05 AM
Their Fee system is crap! About 5 days ago when I got the payment I transferred to localbitcoins.

I really didn't look for the fees during the transaction. As usual, I sent the payment with the regular fee and it took 3 days to confirm the transaction.
They used 45sats/byte fee when the fee was needed over 60sats/byte... I think 60sats was the minimum fee required at that moment.

It is a very uncommon situation when the fees are too high. Their fee system really sucks, because I was paying very high fees there a few years ago. They used to overestimate fees. Now it's the opposite. Crap

11432  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Need me some advice on: May 19, 2019, 11:03:22 AM
Personally, I don't see too much problems verifying your account in bittrex. It's not a random scam exchange. It has thousands of verified accounts and years running...

I am verified in a few good exchanges (not in bittrex) and I think it is worth being able to deposit/withdrawal some Fiat in good exchanges. I would definitely verify my account for a few hundred bucks in bittrex.
11433  Economy / Services / Re: Looking for a teammember for announcement an ngo on bitcointalk on: May 18, 2019, 01:25:42 PM
Thanks for your reply.
I will try but we are looking not for a bounty manager. So hopefully we can find another interested user. I will contact the manager. Thanks for your hint.

It's usually better to work  with professional. You probably won't have problems with a manager that is trusted by the community.

11435  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Can someone explain how exchanges operate? on: May 16, 2019, 06:19:06 PM
It would take something close to centuries to brute Force a Bitcoin address.

As the image below states, our money is secured by the laws of the universe.

11436  Other / Meta / Re: Lost a Post and Lost my Status! on: May 16, 2019, 05:12:25 PM
No big deal. I'm just wondering out of curiosity - under what circumstances does a user's post count decrease? I didn't delete anything myself that I am aware of. Was there maybe something removed by a moderator, or maybe an entire thread that I had posted in was deleted and I was docked as a result?

As I said, it's not a big deal. This post should bump me back up in status either way.

When a moderator deletes your post. Usually he does that when you post in megathreads, or post something useless. Everyone has his own posts deleted sometime.

bitmover, are you sure that Windows 10 is still free for upgrade from Windows 7? Maybe there is some trick to do that, or Microsoft is limited that offer to certain countries, but I only see option to purchase W10.

I recently upgraded my father's computer for free. Just Googled it and download an installer, all went fine and smooth
https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/3159635/windows-10-update-assistant

Take a look here at this article, saying that it's still free. from April 2019

Here's how you can still get a free Windows 10 upgrade

Microsoft's much-hyped free upgrade offer for Windows 10 ended in 2016, right? Not exactly. The GWX tool may be gone, but all the other upgrade tools still work. The end result is an apparently valid digital license, and there's no evidence that the free upgrades will end any time soon.
11438  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Blockchain technology mean? on: May 16, 2019, 12:47:56 PM
It is too complex to understand. How works blockchain technology?

In simple terms, Blockchain is just a decentralized database.
A slow and heavy database. It works for bitcoin because it must be decentralized and you don't need to trust anyone to use it.

Many people want to put everything in blockchain, but that's really not necessary, nor useful.
11439  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Can't create Cardano wallet with Ledger Nano S on: May 16, 2019, 12:16:00 PM
I can't believe I am forced to change my OS Sad I really don't think that will be an option for me, I don't want dual boot either.

I will give my personal opinion on this.
Your decision to keep windows 7 is not rational.

Windows 10 is faster, lighter, better support, safer and they are updating it more frequently. Also, it is a free upgrade. There is no reason to keep windows 7.

The interface is very similar, as you can also keep start menu in windows 7 style. It is much better than windows 8.

The programs you are struggling to use were made for windows 10. Their support is for windows 10.
You may even lose money using that os. You are already losing time.

Just put on Google "windows 10 upgrade" and download the upgrade file from Microsoft website for free. You won't regret. You won't even lose any file, no need to format. In less than 2hours your problem will probably be solved and your computer faster.
11440  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Electrum - Nano S, signed messages on: May 16, 2019, 12:09:57 PM
Yes, it's a total pain that there is no single standard for verifying SegWit addresses, but Electrum having their own protocol isn't useless.

I don't k ow much about this subject, but maybe there is a reason for this lack of standard about segwit verification? Is what Electrum doing really reliable?
Those users signing messages with segwit addresses are not doing the best practices, they should be signing with legacy addresses, just to be safe, imo
