11441  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What makes you trust bitcoin related services? on: November 04, 2019, 05:05:34 PM
it starts by their history. for example if the service is an old one you can easily look at some feedback on this forum or elsewhere to see what other people's experience with that service has been like. if they scammed any of their users, if they were gotten hacked, leaked any personal information of their users,... and a lot more. with a quick search you can easily figure out how much trust you can put in a certain service.
for instance an exchange service that has been hacked before and has poor customer support deserves a very small trust from traders.

then it is a matter of how much risk you are willing to take. for example the gambling site you mentioned, you can verify their fairness and history and then decide if you want to trust their honesty and for how much.
11442  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Child Pays for Parent on: November 04, 2019, 04:49:23 PM
fee in bitcoin is the money you pay to "buy" a portion of a finite commodity called "block space". and in that purchase you are competing with others. if there aren't others outbidding you, you can pay the lowest and if there are others outbidding you, you have to pay higher.
so when there is a big backlog (bigger mempool) paying higher fees you have to pay higher than them to get a high priority.
and when it comes to CPFP you are buying space for 2 transactions instead of one so you have to keep that in mind when calculating the fee for the second (child) transaction.
11443  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Faked-account of Electrum. Look to learn & to be more careful on: November 04, 2019, 06:01:48 AM
These events just shows that scammers and cyber criminals roaming around the crypto space are getting smarter and sharper whem fooling people making it very hard to get rid of them.
I am not sure whether scammers are getting smarter or other usrers are becoming more careless!

since  the scamming methods they are using are mainly the same as it has always been i don't think we can say they are getting smarter. they are just copying the same thing that has been successful before and repeating it.
i think it is more about the fact that there are more newer members around and most people being greedy these days (not applicable to this case but in other ways of scamming) specially those who have lost money trying to invest.
11444  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Generating a paper wallet securely on: November 04, 2019, 05:30:26 AM
How can I generate a paper wallet in off line, provided that I am using Windows and not thinking of using any other platform like ubunto, I'm not much of a tech guy.

you don't need to be a "tech guy" to use Linux. it is different and you may have a hard time at first but to create a paper wallet, only knowing a handful of basic things would be more than enough to help you achieve a higher security.
do it a couple of times as a test and see how things work. you can even create a testnet paper wallet and receive then spend coins using that for no cost.

additionally if you want to avoid complications and take the easy route then you shouldn't be creating a paper wallet in first place because it is not easy and requires a lot of effort and you to be "tech guy". so as others said buy a hardware wallet instead.
11445  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How Bitcoin Fundamentals Are Going From Strength to Strength on: November 04, 2019, 05:22:04 AM
just another shitty article from a shitty website that only creates garbage. they don't even stick to one direction either, they are like a fart in the wind that goes anywhere that the wind blows Wink
don't look at this article alone talking about "strength" in the market and so called "fundamentals", not so long ago when price had a little fall all their articles were doomsday themed and they were posting bullshit such as prediction of fall to $2000!

you shouldn't even be reading sites like this let alone posting their links here in my opinion.
11446  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Satoshi Nakamoto, here's an idea for you (if you are still out there): on: November 04, 2019, 05:13:01 AM
why would anybody want that at all? we want people to choose bitcoin after they see the financial sovereignty that they can gain if they were using bitcoin instead of anything else. what you are suggestion would only mean one thing and one thing only, people who receive "free money" and dump it right away. it won't even achieve what you hope for (that is adoption).
11447  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Child Pays for Parent (Layman term) on: November 03, 2019, 02:30:11 PM
the biggest problem you will face for using CPFP is when the wallet software that you are using doesn't have the feature to allow you to spend unconfirmed transactions. if it doesn't then you will have to use CPFP with unconventional ways such as creating the transaction yourself and signing through console,....
and usually if the wallet has that option it also has the CPFP option too in which case you should trust that it takes care of fee calculation and suggests the appropriate one (no need to use a website to guess the fees that are in most cases doing a very poor job).
11448  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Unable to send BTC on: November 03, 2019, 02:14:14 PM
The fact that you got the "unknown error" message is a strong indicator that you were connected to "fake" server(s) designed to trick users of older versions into downloading "fake" updates.

it is only one of the possibilities, and i wouldn't say it is a strong one. the only thing that we can say for sure is that the response message that the server sent back after receiving the transaction was not inside the handful of hard-coded messages inside Electrum. whether it was a malicious one or simply a message that Electrum didn't recognize is not possible to say.
11449  Economy / Speculation / Re: Ascending Triangle...we are about to break bullish. 10.5K within a week. on: November 03, 2019, 06:12:01 AM
you are getting too excited again by seeing a small movement in a certain direction. you did that with the drop to $8k where you were expecting $6800 "soon and going lower from there", and you are doing it again with this rise.

the fact is that it is not possible to predict price movements at times like this. specifically when you are predicting a "break out" which is proven to be hard at times when price is to break a big psychological resistance such as $10k. not to mention that if it is broken then the price could shoot up a lot more again similar to all previous breakouts. so we should technically see at least $13k.
11450  Other / Off-topic / Re: Which categories do you follow most? on: November 03, 2019, 05:21:34 AM
i was interested in altcoin boards (discussions and announcements) but each time i visit those boards i am disappointed as the discussions are always about pump and dumps and the announcements are just advertisements to get more pumps. there is nothing "technical" found in discussions and the "technical" introductions in announcements is not as much as you'd like it to be. it is usually a vague hype comment to make the coin look good.
11451  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: I know a bit of cryptography, what can I do about it? on: November 03, 2019, 05:11:18 AM
knowing how to use tools (calling hashes, creating public/private keys, signing,...) is not called having cryptography knowledge. if you know how cryptography works, have implemented them, optimized an algorithm, know the attack vectors, know which function to use for what action to mitigate them,... could be considered cryptography knowledge.

you seem to be a programmer which is good. if you want to contribute, there are lots of open source projects that you could find on GitHub. search by programming language you prefer and find a project you like and contribute.
if you want a job then you have to list your skills in a resume-like post and post it in services board.
11452  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: difference between market cap and daily volume on: November 03, 2019, 04:58:23 AM
market capitalization meaning is already explained but you should also know that it is a characteristic that is imported from stocks market into cryptocurrency world and it is a false value to look at. in stocks market, market cap refers to the total value of all a company's shares of stock. in cryptocurrency world they replace stocks with number of coins and calculate the value which is wrong because in nearly all altcoin cases the real supply is far less than the total supply due to premines and other ways of creating tokens and not letting them go into circulation.
additionally in a company you can't produce shares out of thin air to any amount you like but in cryptocurrencies you can create a new altcion with any number of coins you like (a thousand trillion supply is possible for example!).
11453  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin in High School Syllabus on: November 03, 2019, 04:48:11 AM
huge adoption news are coming out these days. first with Starbucks and now with France. i think it is safe to expect a huge price rise in the following couple of months similar to mid 2017 when the similar big adoption related news came out about Japan, etc.

i am wondering who is going to teach these in schools though? do they have trained teachers in bitcoin field familiar with cryptography and blockchain that could teach them or do they plan on starting to train them?
11454  Economy / Speculation / Re: Let this rise be a lesson - Bitcoin isn't strongly tied to anything on: November 02, 2019, 04:53:26 AM
As time goes on, it's getting harder and harder to make sweeping changes to the protocol. Three things are happening: stakeholders (miners, businesses) are becoming increasingly entrenched, the supply is becoming increasingly distributed, and gullible retail investors are selling their stacks to smart money.

You saw what happened with the block size debate. It's only become more difficult to co-opt Bitcoin since then. I really think the maximalists who are concerned about this stuff (or about "altcoin scammers") are wasting their time and energy.

i disagree. it is just as hard as it has ever been, not harder nor easier. we can't really use the one case (scaling bitcoin) as the reference. that change turned into a war and took more then 3 years to conclude. otherwise other changes aren't seeing any opposition like that. for instance checking addition of Schnorr signatures isn't, even though it is a big protocol change (adding new signature scheme, new OP code, new address,...).

as for reddit haters, they are just angry because they think their shitcoin bags lost value only because bitcoin price came down from $20k! these people are slowly going away as their losses enter 90% range.
11455  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: List of useful Bitcoin block explorers on: November 02, 2019, 04:33:11 AM
i suggest adding a new column about their API and whether that also supports bech32 addresses or not. most of them don't last time i checked. https://www.blockonomics.co/ and https://btc.bitaps.com/ do support it to my knowledge.

there is also blockstream which i don't really like since i can't access it without a VPN!!! but it is good since they support all kinds of scripts and the details button show you the script type and the OP codes.

11456  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: Wasabi Wallet - Making Bitcoin Transactions Untraceable on: November 02, 2019, 04:18:21 AM
Can I just install a new version and my wallet will be the same as before or is it a little more complicated?
What is new and does it make sense to update to the newer version?

- usually wallets keep backward compatibility which means when you upgrade to a new version they can continue using the wallet you already had. it is however safer to always make and keep a backup of your wallet or seed.
- they don't keep a separate change log. there is only the release notes here: https://github.com/zkSNACKs/WalletWasabi/releases it is a good idea to upgrade, but you have to read what they changed to decide if it makes sense to do it and if it is mandatory (like fixing a bug) or not.
11457  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: A rising number of Americans own crypto and nearly 13 million women says study.. on: November 02, 2019, 04:05:36 AM
Since US regulations make it more difficult for citizens to participate in crypto investments the growth shows an underlying interest.
You're obviously not from the states, because it is still legal to invest in bitcoin and everything else except for ico's.  The only regulatory pressure anyone is getting is facebook with libra.  There are also some laws pertaining to exchanges which is why Binance doesn't provide service to all states, but it isn't a nationwide issue.  So it's nowhere near as bad as you think.

people like OP tend to believe whatever lies they read online. it doesn't even have to be from a source like a news site, it may as well be a random comment on a forum. so he might as well be from US but fallen for the FUD.
First you don't know OP so, therefore, you don't know "people like"..

Second the source is quoted and linked so take the time to click and read  -- rather than just spewing nonsense. If you question the methodology of research than put up your supporting facts or sources.
I doubt that you can predict the price of Bitcoin based on adoption. The volatility proves it's not linear so you really have no clue.

Lastly, many of the investments in crypto for retail investors come from ICOs, IEOs and exchanges. Each of these is more difficult to participate in the US unless you are an accredited investor,
and many of the projects exclude US participation outright due to regulation and uncertainty.

I would trust the source of the research and quoted data more than your random comment on a forum. And  I am from the US .. all my life.

well i apologize if i judged you too soon but i am talking based on the evidence that i have. you believed a very poorly researched statistic from a site that has no idea what they are talking about when it comes to bitcoin. the resources they use are either not mentioned (a vague statement saying "a survey") or you see they are using other types of poor sources such as coin.dance with false statistics.
to be honest i can not call what this site has done, a "research". it looks to me even worse than a random comment on a forum.
11458  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: is there a way to have crypto news of each country ? on: November 02, 2019, 03:50:38 AM
there isn't that much news for each country about cryptocurrencies that warrants a separate topic for each. and the news for them isn't coming out that regularly so the regular news sites like coindesk,... are more than enough.

as for what you said about "crypto consumer app", these things are usually exactly like selling bitcoin and using the money to buy goods. there is even an exchange rate and additional fees involved. not to mention that those ones that i have seen so far require you to store your bitcoins with that company which is not at all safe because you will no longer have control over them.
11459  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin price to Asuka will be 8700$ November 2020 on: November 02, 2019, 03:42:19 AM
the famous Asuka
random people on the internet making guesses about bitcoin price doesn't make them "famous" or experts.

I believe that Bitcoin still has one more impulsive wave which can reach $56k according to asuka next July 2020, then the ABC correction of the whole 5 waves that lasted 11 years sending Bitcoin below $10k or more less. Any thoughts??
well bitcoin has never been a pump and dump coin to want to start now. going to $56k then falling below $10k make it a pump and dump shitcoin and since that is impossible, this rise and fall you are guessing here is also impossible.
11460  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Implementing a full node from scratch for educational purposes. Advice/thoughts? on: November 01, 2019, 04:12:06 PM
well if you want to "implement" then in my opinion looking at some source code is not going to be constructive because when you look at source codes that is all you can do from then on. you end up "copying code". if you want to understand the technical aspect and implement something and gain some experience in this process then only look at the documentation, then if you got stuck somewhere and couldn't find the answer online you can look at the source code. and if you don't want to implement that part (like not wanting to implement SHA256) then use a library that is already compiled instead of copying code.
