11521  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Can anyone explain, technical difference between public and private blockchain? on: November 25, 2018, 03:47:02 PM
So, in a way, a private blockchain is the antithesis of what blockchain technology is trying to achieve in the first place (decentralization).

What's the point then? One may argue that private blockchains are faster as the nodes are centralized and may be run by a firm or organization. But you are trusting and relying on a centralized entity, which defeats the purpose of this technology. So, IMO, private blockchains are totally missing the point.

Even though private blockchain are centralized, this doesn't mean they are missing the point.

Private blockchain still share  some interesting atributes of the public ones, such as immutability, transparency, historical record, traceability..

Some companies which work with confident information may use private blockchain to protect and store their data. Some other day I was in a conference at work where I discovered that big companies are considering using blockchain technology as a database.

Blockchain technology is here to stay. I believe the decentralization is a  Bitcoin important atribute, as a currency.but blockchain technology have some other applications which do not require a full decentralization
11522  Economy / Services / Re: [FULL] ChipMixer Signature Campaign | 0.00075 BTC/post on: November 25, 2018, 02:49:29 PM
So is chipmixer going to raise the rates considering how much bitcoin crashed?

Just adding somethig to what Loycev already said..

This is one of the few campaigns that pays in btc in the forum now. I believe we don't have more than 5 or 6 currently active now, and paying (there are some that do not pay for more than 2 months).

Also, this campaign is more than full. (59/55, right?). Many of the most recognized members of the forum (according to vod's site), and 100% good posters

And it still pays thousands of dollars per year.. which is morr than many good real time jobs in Brazil ....
11523  Other / Serious discussion / Re: Will Android become a true OS for a desktop computer? on: November 25, 2018, 11:19:31 AM
There is a big privacy problem as Carlton pointed out.

On the other hand,  Android os is a nice alternative for old computers. It is faster and lighter.

If you have an old computer at home that is struggling with Windows, you could give it a try. There are many tutorials out there
11524  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: November 25, 2018, 10:17:06 AM
I liked this plan to make weekly buys. A big buy now would have a huge impact emotionally and couls lead to bad decisions
11525  Other / Meta / Re: The Time Is NOW! I have a "humble plan" to actually fix this seriously F'... on: November 25, 2018, 09:48:03 AM
That's not true.

I was a newbie when the merit system was implemented. I had zero Airdrop merit, I didn't knew anyone here, and my posts where not buried. I am almost a self made hero member and there many others like me.

There are many users here who are seeking for good posts to merit. There is also a "competition" to give merit to newbie members.

Your topics are getting buried because they are on the wrong board, or because they suck.

Try to write about Bitcoin in technical discussion board, for example. Few people post there, almost zero spam... But I'd you are posting about price in the Altcoin session, well, getting buried is well deserved
11526  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: November 24, 2018, 11:17:32 PM

I will not just hold. I will keep buying all the way down :p

off to bed soon; im giving it 60% chance that when i come in the morning, price will be back above 4k finex. if we continue down, ~3250 is my next buy area.

I'm buying all the way down too.

I'd like to buy right at the very bottom, then hodl them until an exponential price rise.

The best to do in this crash is to buy

When I am buying I hope he prices go even further down.. so it makes me feel better during this crash
11527  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: November 24, 2018, 10:50:16 PM
Tether is at 0.97

Will whales try to crash it as well? This could bring us to new lows..
11528  Other / Ivory Tower / Re: I would like to hear your opinion about Ethereum Classic on: November 24, 2018, 10:45:34 PM
If my memory is correct the ETC chain was renamed when ETH reversed a major theft:
Does supporting ETC help increase the value for the thieves who caused the fork, if they still own some? Does it still matter?

It's not a matter of increasing the value of thieves holdings or not.

When Vitalik"stole" the thieves coins , by doing a fork , this means that he controls the network

What is stopping him of doing this again with your coins?  He may fork the network again for some reason he thinks is fair and right, but that's against most of what Bitcoin community believe is right.
11529  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: November 24, 2018, 10:37:23 PM
Ok then. Let's get this to 2k then.

I wouldn't sell even if I wanted, my coins are cold storage more than a thousand miles away lol
11530  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: November 24, 2018, 10:29:18 PM
Approaching support zone

Possible bounce zone too

If BTC recovers as soon as it crashed, it's going tp be amazing
11531  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: November 24, 2018, 10:18:49 PM
Volume and postcount are looking extremely bullish.

Personally, I can't see anything bullish in this whole situation lol

But I am not selling!
11532  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: November 24, 2018, 10:16:31 PM
I am holding since 2000s, last year.
Saw that shit go to 20k and thought "I will never be able to buy a full bitcoin again, so I will not sell mine"

"Never sell what you can't buy", I learned long ago.

Well, if we keep going down this road I will be able to buy  some more , at least.

1.200 is the support for the long term logarithmic trend, right? I read somewhere here Smiley
11533  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: November 24, 2018, 10:07:34 PM
What the fuck is going on?

Does the whales know something we don't? Is there a fukiing reason for this Carnage?
11534  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Wallets currently accepting Bitcoin Cash? on: November 24, 2018, 09:21:35 PM
Thanks. I don't think I'll try it. For someone with only basic computer knowledge, it's very complicated Cry. I think all this needs to be made a lot simpler before the general public get involved in bitcoin.

Well said.

Forks are worth a significant percentage of anyone's holdings, and for now they are far too complicated and risky to be claimed.
11535  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Wallets currently accepting Bitcoin Cash? on: November 24, 2018, 07:30:15 PM

Have I misunderstood the situation?
The problem seems to be that I can't transfer the BCH out to sell somewhere as most exchanges seem to have suspended transfers & dealings in BCH since last week's hard fork, so when I move the BTC out, I will have exposed my private key & the BCH will no longer be secure. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

You are right. If you import your 12 words in Coinomi, Electrum, or whatever wallet, those private keys are going to be exposed. There is a small chance a bad actor will be able to steal your coins at that moment.

In your BTC addresses, you will have BTC, BCH ABC, BCH SV, among other less valuables forks such as BTG and BCD. All those forks are worth money, and depeding on the amount of BTC you have, they could be worth thousands of dollars.

As explained above by gentlemand, the best option for now would be to wait for some days/weeks until BCH fork drama ends. You are holding those coins for years, just wait a few more days to be safe.

However, there is one more option for you, that would be safe, but will require some work and knowledge: use an offline computer (airgapped).

If you have an old computer, disable it network in bios. Format it. Never plug it in the internet again, so there is no risk of being hacked.

Download https://iancoleman.io/bip39/ and upload it to your new airgapped computer.

You can safely enter your 12 words there, without any risk of being hacked, as long as the computer never touches the internet again.
Then, once you have entered your 12 words, just Scan the private keys QR codes with your Coinomi mobile wallet. Get all the forks you want (BTC, BCH ABC, BTG, BCP  whateever, coinomi supports lots of them). When BCH drama is over, try to recover the BCH SV (i think it's ok to claim bch abc now, but not to sell it).
11536  Other / Meta / Re: General assumption now, no offense to anyone on: November 24, 2018, 05:26:01 PM
You are making your contribution, with one more not Bitcoin related topic  Cool

You are somewhat suggesting that this forum could be centralized... I thought about it when I joined the forum, but I don't think this forum should be decentralized.

There is no decentralization if anyone can create thousands of accounts here.

DT system and the merit system are centralized, but it's better that way. In general, the "power" is with good individuals.

Of course there are exceptions, and as you said many legendaries here know nothing about Bitcoin ( even what is a privatekey, how to keep your wallet safe etc..), but those are not the ones with DT and merit sources.

I see lots of criticism in your post, but zero suggestions.

And, this forum is also a place where people all over the world can share their experiences absout economy, society, politics, etc.. if you don't like off topic discussions, don't go to those boards. Keep yourself in Bitcoin related boards.

You want decentralization by imposing your will? Can't people have onon Bitcoin related discussions?
11537  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: blockchain wallet access problem on: November 24, 2018, 01:10:36 PM
Hello

I used blockchain.info wallet for years also. So I have some experience with it

As long as you have your 12 word , you are fine. Don't panic.

You have many good options:
-electrum is compatible with bip39, so it's compatible with blockchain.info. just insert your words there and you are fine.

- https://iancoleman.io/bip39/ - just insert your words there and generate each private key individually
. Remember to also check the change addresses, just need to put 1 in "internal/external" - this will generate other privatekeys which probably have funds.
To recover those funds, BTC and BTC and whatever you have, just scan those qrcodes with coinomi mobile wallet, very good wallet

-create a new blockchain.info wallet.

Finally, I recommend that you buy a ledger nano wallet, 50% off in black Friday today.

11539  Other / Beginners & Help / what is a Fiat currency on: November 23, 2018, 02:40:51 PM
I see lots of people talking about Fiat currencies in crypto communities.
But I see that few people really know what they exactly are.

By definition, Fiat currencies have no intrinsic value, so they are not backed up by gold or anything else. Currencies backed by commodities are commodity currencies, and they dominated the world until 1971.
Since 1971, dollar was nolonger backed by gold, and it became a Fiat currenciy.

I saw this nice summary on Wikipedia

Quote
Fiat money is a currency without intrinsic value that has been established as money, often by government regulation. Fiat money does not have use value, and has value only because a government maintains its value, or because parties engaging in exchange agree on its value.[1] It was introduced as an alternative to commodity money and representative money. Commodity money is created from a good, often a precious metal such as gold or silver, which has uses other than as a medium of exchange (such a good is called a commodity). Representative money is similar to fiat money, but it represents a claim on a commodity (which can be redeemed to a greater or lesser extent).[2][3][note 1]

Fiat money first began to be used in China in the 11th century. Since then, it has been used by various countries, usually concurrently with commodity currencies. Fiat money started to dominate in the 20th century. Since the decoupling of the US dollar from gold by Richard Nixon in 1971, a system of national fiat currencies has been used globally.

Fiat money has been defined variously as:

Any money declared by a government to be legal tender.[4]
State-issued money which is neither convertible by law to any other thing, nor fixed in value in terms of any objective standard.[5]
Intrinsically valueless money used as money because of government decree.[2]
An intrinsically useless object that serves as a medium of exchange[6] (also known as fiduciary money.)[7]
11540  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: SegWit Paper Wallet page offline on: November 23, 2018, 02:28:41 PM

This is not truly a paper wallet, but IMO there are no downsides compared to a classic paper wallet.

Yes, as long as the Electrum wallet is working on an airgapped pc, totally offline, it is one of the safests method.
