1161  Economy / Economics / Re: The Devaluation of fiat money is powered by Inflation on: September 03, 2023, 03:59:59 AM
The devaluation of currency can be caused by inflation. When the price of goods keeps increasing money will also lose its purchasing power. An example is the case of Zimbabwe in 2006 where a loaf of bread cost about Z$550,000 which was just 1 dollar. But devaluation can also be an economic strategy to promote local consumption of goods and exports. Locally produced goods will be cheaper which means people will prefer it to expensive imported goods. Currency devaluation will make the country's goods cheaper in the international market which will attract more trade partnerships.

But there are also dangers of devaluation especially if the country relies on other countries for importation of raw materials. This will make raw materials more expensive and locally produced goods may no longer be cheaper. Devaluation is a good economic policy that has worked for countries like China but it can cause harm to other countries, especially to countries that depend on others for raw materials and human resources.
1162  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Hope is all I have left on: September 03, 2023, 03:22:24 AM
For people like us who still struggles to invest money on Bitcoin I want to know if one day, 1 sat can ever cost as much as 1 cent? Is this possible? Sorry I can't afford to dollar cost into Bitcoin like everyone else, it's very hard for me, all I need is hope.

I can only afford to invest into Bitcoin once in two month and that's not every with big money, you should understand my situation, I am too shamed to call a number.

Is there any hope for small Bitcoin buyers like myself? Can 1Sat ever be 1 Cent one day?
You don't have to compare yourself with anyone else this is because we are not in the same country or earn the same amount. Buying Bitcoin is not a competition and I am not sure that everybody in this forum owns bitcoin. People might be here to learn bitcoin because they want to invest in it in the future. You have to focus on earning more through legal means and save as much money as you can. I will also suggest that you don't push yourself too much to buy Bitcoin because the coin will always be available for you to buy. Nobody can predict the price of Bitcoin in the future so you may not get the answer to your question but the price of Bitcoin will certainly keep increasing.
1163  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How SEC ETF Adjustment News Can Affect Your Crypto Investments Not Just Bitcoin on: September 02, 2023, 10:07:25 AM
So, I don't want to waste anyone's time complaining about the indecisive movement in the market because we all see it.

In a nutshell, Bitcoin ETF news isn't just about Bitcoin. It also has an impact on other crypto coins. Two days ago when was checking my chart I noticed the massive shake-up of the entire crypto scene because of the SEC announcement of postponing seven proposed traded funds. Now, I just want to know how y'all do it this period. I know Diversification is a smart strategy, but it won't completely shield anyone from the waves created by big Bitcoin news. While some trade it anyway because why not? So, what else do y'all do? do you trade it or just keep watching the market movement?
I am not a trader, so I don't care much about crypto news because most of them only spread FUD. Every long-term investor is more concerned about his investment strategies, hence it will be better not to make decisions based on the actions of the SEC and others.

I didn't clearly understand your idea on diversification but I would prefer to diversify my investment to areas outside the crypto industry. This is because altcoins are not trustworthy like Bitcoin. Some persons are fortunate to have gained from investing in altcoins but many people have lost fortunes.

I don't trade so I keep my head straight avoiding the noise of the SEC and unfriendly government because I have confidence that Bitcoin will overcome all these setbacks.
1164  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Socialtournaments-A way to stop gambling addiction on: September 02, 2023, 09:19:59 AM
I am in no way affiliated with them and you need big KYC,Proof of Address,National ID and Proof of Wallet to get your money.Do you think this platform can help people remove addiction,I think it can be a big boost to do so.
Most gamblers engage in gambling for entertainment and money. Those who are addicted to gambling because of the fun they derive from it will find these Social Tournaments very helpful. But gamblers that target profit-making will need more than these free games to break free from addiction. Their motivation for gambling is to make a profit so they will not be thrilled by such a substitute.

Alternatively, such games can introduce nongamers to gambling. Since some of the games are similar to real gambling, nongamblers can decide to apply their acquired skills or experience from these dummy games to real gambling. But if gamers can control their gambling drive, Socialtournaments are a valid medium to reduce gambling addiction.
1165  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Greater Control and Security Features often Come Greater Responsibilities on: September 02, 2023, 08:47:13 AM
Freedom and decentralization come with a lot of responsibility. But it will be better to have control over my investment than to put it in the hands of people I don't know. The risk of keeping my wallet safe is lesser than putting it in the control of people like Sam Bankman-Fried.

Solid thread @OP. Putting security in the users is one of the responsibilities that decentralization affords us and it is available by design. This way, no repudiation or pointing of fingers if something goes wrong with a user's account. The importance of security in this space cannot be overemphasised and this thread does a good job along with other resources mentioned does a fine job at driving that point home.

Good job! Anyone who is new to the space should give this a read.
There are some threads in which the OP gives stories of how they spoke to people about Bitcoin and they immediately bought the idea and invested in the sector because of profit-making. I think these teachings are incomplete without security knowledge. If you teach people about making money and don't teach them how to protect their investments, you may have just shown them how to lose their money cheaply.

If you want to take greater responsibility for your digital assets and don't know where to start, Ratimov has created the Beginners & Help Encyclopedia and it is updated yearly. It is a compendium of various useful articles. There you will find articles, links on security, privacy, scams. It will bring you so much value. Check it out.
That thread is a compendium of relevant materials that everyone should read. It has information on many aspects of security and the good part about it is that it is updated monthly.
1166  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Why do members switch campaigns always? on: September 02, 2023, 08:01:29 AM
This question has occured to me many times but
What makes members move everytime? I need your contribution on this to make me understand it better.
Higher pay: When a campaign comes up with a higher pay rate members prefer to move to such a campaign for more money.

Change of campaign rule: When the rules of the campaign change, it might not suit some members. Some campaigns can decide to remove or add some boards to their campaign posts which some members might not be comfortable with

Longevity of the campaign: Some members might decide to leave a high-paying campaign to a lesser one because they believe that the low-paying one will last longer. Some members cherish longtime campaigns rather than high-paying ones.

Change in ideology: Change is what is constant in life, a member might have changed his ideology or perception about a service. I have seen some persons who feel gambling is immoral but later change their thinking because they gained more knowledge.
1167  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: TRY TO STUDY ABOUT BITCOIN AS A BIGINNER BEFORE POST/COMMENT on: September 02, 2023, 06:58:41 AM
Being a newbie does not mean that I don't no about crypto. Or does not mean that I will not advice. I might be new in this forum but not new to crypto. Advice is no a course. We are here to learn and if topic is raise people look into it and see what dey can learn. not the other way round.no body is an iland of knowledge and learning never end.

Thanks though! for the informative link sheard. It will also go along way to our line of discussion.
You will always get this reaction from the community when you create common topics that have been discussed severally. If you are not new in the crypto industry then you have to write on novel topics that have not been over-discussed in this forum. At this stage, it will be better to keep learning before considering starting a thread. Another key characteristic that will help you learn more is to accept corrections without offense. Many newbies left the forum because they were not teachable.
1168  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: This might become a very important legal precedent for SEC vs. Coinbase on: September 02, 2023, 05:37:56 AM
May I know, bbc.reporter, zasad@ and Fiatless, how do you see Ethereum as a commodity?

Something that you can increase the supply of at will Vitalik Buterin, and that is, in fact, potentially infinite I don't see it as a commodity as one of the characteristics of them is that they are finite and cannot be produced at will.
I understand your concern because even common commodities like farm products such as corn and wheat have limited supply in a given period. The infinite supply of Ethereum might be a challenge in categorizing it as a commodity. However, the issue of grouping cryptocurrencies as securities or commodities is a complicated one that goes beyond the limited or unlimited supply. It has always been a subject of litigation over these years. This is because other characteristics of commodities such as uniformity and fungibility are also considered. Just like how agencies and intentional organization regulates the supply of some commodities it is also possible that the Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) will place restrictions on the supply of Ethereum.

I am not an advocate of Ethereum and don't even own a wei and I believe that Bitcoin is a perfect example of a commodity because it has all the characteristics.
1169  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: [JUST IN] Chinese court news said Cryptocurrencies are considered legal property on: September 01, 2023, 04:35:32 PM
What a Fantastic News For Crypto currency lovers, Chinese court news said Cryptocurrencies are considered legal property and are protected by China law. I think gradually most countries will understand that cryptocurrency is the Future. Chaina is a big country and Their contribution is huge in crypto industry. So obviously a big impact will happen for this Fantastic News i think. Good news coming gradually so i also think Bullish market is coming.

Since Chaina considered Crypto as legal Property Others many country’s will also consider gradually i think.

Over the years there have been several court judgments giving conflicting judgments about crypto regulations. But we all know that China is not a democratic nation so these these court judgments are just academic exercises, they will hardly be implemented. China's economy is going through a lot of problems, maybe the government wants to set its stance on Bitcoin and others. Reversing the ban on cryptocurrencies can be a good economic strategy to attract investors back to China.

I'm not sure why people take the words of government too seriously. Later they would say Bitcoin have no intrinsic value when the community itself gives it value. Also, I don't think anyone interested in Bitcoin should be excited for government to tell them what's already true. People of China used to be against Bitcoin and ICOs a few years ago, maybe they've realized that there's a lot to miss out by not joining the Bitcoin Bandwagon.
We just have to wait if this court judgment will change the stance of the Chinese government. A slight favorable change in China's policy on Bitcoin will affect the crypto market positively.
1170  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: This might become a very important legal precedent for SEC vs. Coinbase on: September 01, 2023, 03:07:00 PM
It was indeed a landmark judgment that gave birth to two important precedents. The first precedent is that decentralized platforms like Uniswap will not be held accountable for tokens issued and traded on their protocol. Rather the issuers of such scam tokens should be traced and held responsible for the scam token that made investors lose money. Secondly classifying Ethereum as a commodity removes its regulation from the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and puts the coin under the supervision of the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) just like Bitcoin.
1171  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Premier League Prediction Thread 2023/2024 on: September 01, 2023, 02:12:07 PM
It doesn't matter how active Chelsea are in the transfer market and how much money is spent because it is the result and the performance on the pitch that will be judged. Because if a budget of that size does not show significant results, Chelsea will automatically receive a lot of criticism, including a failed coach.
Chelsea spent close to £600m last season and the impact was not felt they ended the season in one of the worst positions that made them lose out from all European competition. The club is already facing some backlash for their recent performance but it is just too early to start judging the impact of their new signings. If it is quality players, the club has them but it needs to show in the performance of the club.

Quote
Pochettino was challenged to build Chelsea from scratch after several coaches failed. So the question for Pochettino is whether he is able to complete the task or is he not able to do it but is still forced to do it.
I don't like Pochettino's coaching style. He likes buying already-established players. I will not be wrong if I assume that he depends on big names to win trophies. I am more comfortable with coaches that build young players. Coaches that groom unknown players to superstars are the best in the world.

1173  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Countries where Bitcoin is “banned” on: September 01, 2023, 12:53:33 PM
How do you think bitcoin users deal with these situations?
How do they manage to get around these restrictions without getting caught?
Do you think, what more countries can join this list?
Fundraising through crypto tokens can attract up to 10 years of jail term and penalties has high as 500,000 yuan ($79,000) in China. If using Bitcoin is illegal and attracts certain sanctions, I think many people will not be willing to bear the risk. In my country, Bitcoin is not banned but the restriction placed on it is one of the problems that have limited its mass adoption in my country. It will be better to obey the law than to face the consequences. If you think that you cannot do without bitcoin, you can consider moving out of the country.

If you have a trusted friend or relative outside the country, they can help you buy and keep the keys. But the person must be trustworthy. Another way to always move to a Bitcoin-friendly neighboring country to do your transactions. You can buy and see your coin there and return back to your country.

More countries will open up to more investment in bitcoin. Even China is becoming friendly to Bitcoin using Hong Kong. China is secretly making Hong Kong a crypto hub to enjoy the benefits that the sector offers.
1174  Economy / Economics / Re: Another Coup in Africa: What is the economic effect? on: September 01, 2023, 12:32:03 PM
What would have happened if the "West" did not entered these countries and not provided jobs for millions of people? Would they have had the latest technologies (Cars / cellphones / TVs .....) if the developed countries did not use those raw minerals?

It is sad to see all that suffering and how the citizens are exploited by their own leaders.  Sad
It is a known fact that the Europeans have contributed to the economic development of Africa. Without them, many resources in Africa would have been untapped and redundant. But they should do more because we have passed the years of colonialism and economic exploration. We know Europe is helping Africa to exploit their natural resources but they should all go a step further by building industries in Africa. Africa shouldn't only be treated as a raw material mine but Europeans can help to industrialize Africa. If Africa is empowered to produce raw materials and finished goods, more jobs with be created and the number of illegal immigrants will reduce.

European companies and politicians should not assist corrupt African leaders in stealing the commonwealth of Africans. Most of these leaders keep stolen wealth in European banks and they are shielded from persecution. An investigation into the money laundering and stealing against the Bongo family was dropped in France because of lack of evidence. I guess it was dropped for political patronage. Europe can help Africa limit corruption if they show a little commitment.
1175  Economy / Economics / Re: Another Coup in Africa: What is the economic effect? on: August 30, 2023, 11:07:06 AM
Manganese is a major raw material used to produce steel and batteries.
In steel production, the major element used is iron which consists of 97% of steel production. 0.05 to 1.5% of carbon, 0.3 to 0.6% of manganese and impurities like sulphur and phosphorus in small concentration.

The president Ali Bongo Ondimba family history as the president is 56 years:

Bongo's overthrow would end his family's 56-year hold on power in the resource-rich West African country

The argument from the citizens of these African countries is that France is only concerned about exploiting raw materials and doesn't care about the development of the local economy. Others are also stimulating  that these coups are sponsored by some external forces that want to replace France.
Care about the development? Is France government that is controlling the country? No. So why thinking like that.

What is the economic effect of the coup in Gabon on the global economy?
I see nothing. Everything is happening within the country, not that the country is destroyed or anything bad happened to the country.
Major raw material might not necessarily mean the highest quantity, it could be an important raw material in the production of steel.

It is in the public domain that most countries in Africa are influenced by their former colonial masters. They are not directly in control of the nation but they influence their policies through a puppet government.

Like a system global economy is interdependent and interconnected and dysfunctioning in a a country can affect the global economy. Have you considered why the price of cereal has been going up recently?
1176  Economy / Economics / Another Coup in Africa: What is the economic effect? on: August 30, 2023, 10:29:40 AM
Just early this morning some group of soldiers in Gabon declared that they had overthrown the democratically elected government in Gabon, Africa. President Ali Bongo Ondimba has been placed under house arrest and there are also celebrations on the streets of the capital  Libreville.

Some observers believe that these coups in these former French colonies like the Central African Republic, Mali, Burkina Faso, and Niger is to reduce France's economic influence in Africa. Gabon has the largest manganese mine in the world and it is controlled by the French mining group Eramet. Manganese is a major raw material used to produce steel and batteries. The company that employs about 8,000 workers has suspended its operation due to this coup. There have also been concerns about the continuity of uranium mining by French-based Orano after the coup in Niger. Niger supplies about controlled 15% of France’s uranium needs.

The argument from the citizens of these African countries is that France is only concerned about exploiting raw materials and doesn't care about the development of the local economy. Others are also stimulating  that these coups are sponsored by some external forces that want to replace France. What is the economic effect of the coup in Gabon on the global economy?
1177  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: Tax obligation for personal Bitcoin traded to Fiat on: August 30, 2023, 09:33:38 AM
If I transfer BTC into my Coinbase account from a personal wallet and then sell my BTC for Fiat/USD... am I subject to tax obligation?

If yes, how much? In other words, what type of taxation am I subject to?

Intuition says there is no tax, for this is not income, is this true?
Taxation policies are not uniform in all the countries. Every country has its tax policies and calculations. It will be better to seek the advice of a tax officer in your location to determine how crypto taxes are calculated and paid in your country. In some countries, the exchange acts as a tax collector for the government. In that case, the tax is added to the transaction charges and the tax will be remitted to the government.

These links of Coinbase about understanding crypto taxes might help.

1178  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Can money be saved in gambling sites? on: August 30, 2023, 09:02:56 AM
Is good to save money for future use so we can make good use of it when ever we need to, now what if you decide to save money in your betting account will that be possible to?
We can decide not to save money in our fiat bank account or any other micro finance bank account for one reason or the other and save it in a licensed gambling sites can that idea be possible, will the money deposited there not be tempered with from the gambling platform or removed automatically from the account after keeping it for a long period of time?
I know it might be very hard to save money in a gambling site because we  might have the feelings of winning if we try to stake, it can be hard for a gambler to save money in a gambling site but it will be easy for a non gambler, I put in mind that everything start one day so even a non gambler can try at the first, I bring this discussion here so we can discuss it to keep our selfs busy.
Gambling sites should be the last option when it comes to saving money online. I would even prefer to keep my money in a local bank that is regulated by the Central Bank of my country. This is because local banks are regulated by the central banks and customers can receive back their deposit if they have any problem. But these casinos are registered in countries that are far from me and I might not be able to sue them if they infringe my rights.

Many casinos tend to change their terms or services regularly and this can affect you if you want to withdraw your funds. They might start asking for more complicated KYC which might be dangerous to expose. I don't think you should ever trust a centralized firm with your funds. The best decision is to keep little funds that you can afford to lose. Casino accounts are not designed to save funds but to keep projected bets. If you want to save money, the best option will always be to keep Bitcoin in a decentralized wallet.
1179  Economy / Economics / Re: I wonder if food prices in your country have also increased? on: August 30, 2023, 08:33:47 AM
But I was wondering if this only happened in my country or in your country too?
You are not alone @Uruhara. In my country, the prices of food are going high every day. I just bought some loaves of bread and I had to pay double for them. This issue started immediately after Russia invaded Ukraine. This invasion affected the supply of major grains because Ukraine is a major supplier of these essential agricultural products.

The price stabilized after the grain deal was signed between Russia and other parties. But the recent blockage by Russia has compounded the problem again. Russia's decision to annul the agreement has caused the world to experience another shortage in supply. The recent ban on rice export by the Indian government due to domestic issues like inflation has also affected the global price of grain.

We cannot also neglect environmental issues like global warming which has led to flooding in some parts of my country. Many agricultural lands have been destroyed by floods leading to less production and price hikes.
1180  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: BlackRock wants to reduce the price of Bitcoin on: August 30, 2023, 07:26:11 AM
These are all rumors and nothing more. You should not pay attention to every sneeze. I know one thing: this company in most cases achieves its goals. If she has investments in Bitcoin, then this fact should be taken seriously. It means that there is a desire to make money, to make a profit on the asset. Therefore, I recommend following all the news related to this conglomerate.
A little more and ETF contracts will be accepted, and this will only contribute to the price increase. It remains to wait quite a bit. We need to be patient until that date.
If you follow the news that emanates from these firms you might be deceived. They will always give out information that will make them gain from the market. They will spread FUD to make you sell your coin and make the price drop. They will immediately repurchase the coin at a low price and keep it until the price goes up. For long-term holders, all this information shouldn't matter to them because their plan is not affected by rumors and news.

I'd like to reduce the price of Bitcoin so that I can buy some more. Smiley
If you are opportune to discover how to reduce the price please I will be glad learn  Grin.
