1161  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Prime Trust's bankruptcy due to forgotten seed/private key on: September 01, 2023, 06:40:17 PM

They've got tons of customers and money on their custody and they just lost it. Maybe a planned exit? or just truly negligence of its owners.
The story is hard to believe and laughable that such a company like prime trust would be this negligence to lose their private keys understanding fully the importance of those keys not just to them but to the multitude of investors that have placed their financial trust on them. There's more to this story that we can't determine at this stage and time.

If the keys are later to be found by some anonymous group or fellow years probably when the case would died down then I'll believe what the tiny voice in my ears is telling me, that yeah it may be an exit plan and not negligence.

This is what will continue to happen as people continue making same mistakes of keeping their funds in the custody of a third party. When you care-less of taking responsibility of your private keys by holding your funds in a selfcustody wallet you should be ready to accepts these sorts of stories because it will keep happening one way or the other, accept it or not.

Hello community

I just opened this account here but although I won't say this is the first time am hearing the word Bitcoin before although Bitcointalk itself an entirely new term to me. Bitcoin is almost everywhere in my region and although it is said to be restricted to trade or transact it with fiat bank but still yet it has refused to die low.
Just as you candle light up a candle in the house and hide it under the table that's how no instruments of restrictions from the government can make bitcoin lay low or die out. Good things will always sell itself amidst opposing  philosophies.

I won't lie folk I was really skeptical upon seeing and been told by a friend that such community exist where one can go and discuss all about Bitcoin and other related crypto issues, it's really nice to be here although I have about Bitcoin many times from folks all around me and believe me it's definitely hard to miss out on this term but I would count myself still a newbie as my profile even says so and will be willing to learn more about crypto and Bitcoin in particular.

Hope I get a warm welcome and I will also try to see it to that many folks that are into Bitcoin come about locating the wonderful forum .

1163  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Premier League Prediction Thread 2023/2024 on: August 30, 2023, 09:54:26 PM
Arsenal and Manchester United are very enthusiastic about this big match. Last week Arsenal were only able to draw with Fulham, this time Arsenal will not waste the opportunity to get full points in front of their fans. Manchester United wants to continue its positive trend after last week's dramatic victory over Nottingham Forest.
This match will take place with high tension and both teams will attack each other in search of victory, Arsenal and Manchester United, who both conceded two goals in their last matches, must maintain their defense more firmly to prevent conceding more than two goals.

Arsenal's game against Manchester United will be a test of tactical strategies. I hope to see a perfect teamwork for the trio Partey, Odegaard, and Saka. Because of Mason Mount there would be a slight change in Man U's formation like that Fernandes my play forwards. Well, at the end of the day, Manchester United is going to beat Arsenal by 2 goals to nil. Rashford to score. And lastly, I would love to see Kai Havertz on bench for this particular Match. He can't be relied on.
How easy for you to make the prediction of a 2 goals to nil victory against Arsenal in favour of Manchester United. For every football fan that watched the last match of Manchester United against Nottingham forest they will object to this scoreline prediction. Manchester united don't have a formidable defense it has been one characterised with defensive errors in their past three games of this season leading to their conceiving of goals just like the two goal Nottingham forest got against them which they were lucky to escape a loss in their game. But if this gets be with a bigger team as Arsenal the results would have been of something different but never in Manchester united favour.
All am saying is your scoreline can't be possible even Manchester united were to defeat arsenal they don't have the clinical defense to keep a clean sheet against the gunners.
1164  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Five Ways Bitcoin is Changing the Sports Betting Game on: August 30, 2023, 09:27:50 PM

Funding fees with bitcoin are lower than traditional funding methods

When we use our credit cards to fund our sports betting accounts, we often must pay a close to 10% fee. The 10% funding fee comes from our sportsbooks.

To be fair, most online sportsbooks that primarily accept fiat currency are passing on costs to us, to their players. So the 10% isn’t always sportsbook operators gouging their customers.

However, 10% is a lot. Not only that, but our credit card companies might charge a fee on top of the 10%. Fees we pay to fund our sportsbook accounts are transaction fees from where we keep our wallets, Coinbase

, Cash App, etc. There is no true middle entity like Visa or Mastercard when it comes to bitcoin transactions.

2. Bitcoin sportsbooks allow players to keep their privacy

Keeping one’s privacy, especially today, is tantamount to maintaining one’s individual and digital life sovereignty.

Bitcoin sportsbooks, true BTC books like Nitrobetting, ask for a single piece of info, an email address. Since all transactions are done in bitcoin, which means they’re peer-to-peer and anonymous, there’s no reason for a BTC book to ask for more of your personal info.

3. Withdrawing winnings in bitcoin is usually faster than withdrawing fiat currency

Withdrawing in fiat currency has to go through numerous checks and balances before we can get our winnings. This makes sense because fiat currency involves centralized banks.

Bitcoin is decentralized. So withdrawals happen much faster.

4. Bitcoin sportsbooks provide fairer odds

Because bitcoin only sportsbooks don’t charge deposit or withdrawal fees, they can offer fairer odds. The house edge is often lower for a BTC book.

Money lines are often fairer. Handicap lines in soccer, the Asian handicap, are almost always more fair. As sports handicappers, the best we can do is ask for a fair line.

In a lot of ways, that’s all we can do. Fair lines allows us to use our handicapping skills to find winning plays.

Keep reading→ https://n2g.io/03a8562

Bitcoin and cryptocurrency in general has pervade through and revolutionized the sport betting to an appreciable altitude unlike how rigorous both the depositing and withdrawal procedures were with fiat where sometimes we get to battle with network issues delaying credited deposit completion into an account while the time for a particular sport game the gambler wants to bet on is a few minutes about to start.  And with a plausible privacy experience into gambling it makes the whole fiat gambling system more discouraging to engage with. But on the side of fairer odds in bitcoin sportbooks it's not always the case, there has been occasions where odds/games have been proven not to be provably fair among some crypto online sportbooks.
1165  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: NEWBIES: Balancing security risk. on: August 29, 2023, 09:51:00 PM
And NO me I disagree with this one, as I can't feel more relief knowing that hackers get access to my funds and make away with them. And feel very bad that I lost access to them in the process of trying to protect them from hackers access.

Knowing this, I think losing access to the encryption is better than allowing hackers to make away with the bitcoin holdings.
In both ways a loss is a loss be it to hackers or to loss of access to the encryption due to excessive tightening of security and, there's nothing relieving about the two sides wether you agree or not. All that matters is the safety of our coins, that the loss of it shouldn't occur  be it  in the process of building security for it or by hacker having access to it..
1166  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Just Learnt About A Major Risk Involved In Stable Coins on: August 29, 2023, 09:35:14 PM
This forum is really helpful I must confess. I never knew about Pegging and Depegging. But after my previous post on whether to save in stable coins or my local currency, I got to know that even stable coins have their own risks involved, in which Depegging is one of the major risks
Yeah you're so right about that, stablecoins are pegged to fiat currency and that's where their risk is because they are centralized currency which can be frozen by an order of court in any case affecting even the stablecoins in your personal wallet. And I don't get it why it should be called stable-coin when it's not always stable in exact value to the pegged currency.

I'm very happy I asked the question and other users really responded very well. All the responses were really helpful. I think other newbies like myself learned a lot from the replies.
Learning in the forum is not concentrated to newbies alone, both newbies and olders members of the forum do learn from each other as no one is an autarchy of knowledge and that's why we're advised to ask reasonable and valid questions and contributions which can be of benefits someone somewhere in the forum.
1167  Other / Beginners & Help / NEWBIES: Balancing security risk. on: August 29, 2023, 09:06:29 PM
We have relentlessly been discussing about bitcoin security of our wallet. Tightening the security of our data files against the backdrops of losing our bitcoin to hackers. And that awareness is something very important to every bitcoiner.

Although today I want us to take a glimpse into being very cautious in balancing our risk to avoid going too extreme in the efforts to securie our bitcoin wallet so we don't end up losing the coins in the bid to tighten security, which is another form of higher risk altogether.

Quote
In July 2011, a well-known bitcoin awareness and education project lost almost 7,000 bitcoin. In their effort to prevent theft, the owners had implemented a complex series of encrypted backups. In the end they accidentally lost the encryption keys, making the backups worthless and losing a fortune.

If you ask people that lost their bitcoin out of their excessive security to prevent theft of their coins you hear most of them say it's more painful to them losing their coins in that manner compared to a loss due to malware or hack. Therefore, while taking necessary range in protecting your coins in your wallet don't forget to balance the risk.

The man who received the very first Bitcoin transaction from Satoshi Nakamoto, Hal Finney was absolutely involves on the earliest public Bitcoin days and deserve some credit for a greater believer in the system and confident to Satoshi.

Hal Finney died from ALS (Lou Gehrig disease) on 28 August 2014.
I am confident that some day when BTC has gained the expansive wider reach of adoption around the globe such personality would be well celebrated and giving the deserved credit for their contribution and sacrifice made.
RIP Hai Finney, without believers like you bitcoin wouldn't have been possible to this day.

I would have warned them and cautioned with the ending that if they still want to invest they can. Your choice of leaving them to make a mistake is not something I would do especially when you know better.

I can relate to what you mean, but my choice of leaving them to making this mistake is coming after I had politely told them that what they doing and calling it investment is a Ponzi Scheme which can crash in a twinkle of an eye but as one of the comment's made by a user saying that experience is the best teacher , perhaps by way of experience they will have a grounded understanding of my cautioning them . That's my thoughts.

Don't expect some other people to understand you immediately that you are just trying to warn them about those ponzi schemes which they are participating since they might just ignore you and say something negative about the warning you said. Its normal for people to a t according to their greed so maybe its best to let go those people keep participating even if you give proper precaution about those ponzi and let them learn on hard way since experience is really a best teacher for then to learn about such thing.
@ultrloa you are in the direct as me on this, at least them learn and accept it the hard way so that I can be vindicated of my cautioning to them by whatever happens to their loss. Because there's a way I might want to go about it and they will be thinking that am jealous of their investment and the profits they are to make from it. So let the end justifies everything.

[a.] Read books related to personal finance.
[c.] Watch videos that can give you inspiration to become better. And mingle with people who have a positive outlook on life.
There are financial conditions you can find yourself in that's doesn't need you reading books on personal finance management or watching of inspirational videos. They are beyond the normal circumstance of those procedures to solving it, and these are problems that needs you to go the extra miles in breaking it, more like advancing to the supernatural level to get solutions to the root cause.

Moving forward, some persons out of the feeling of comfort they careless of doing the uncomfortable, their comfortable zone they find themselves with every little of what they get they are comfortable with it and that mentality has killed their foresight to see beyond their comfortable zone as their cage holding them from achieving greater financial freedom and without they clear picture they've to just settle for the less. In otherwords, they are frightened by risk taken feat or exploit and see no need in even giving a try.

1175  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Do the size and frequency of online casino winnings depend on the time of year? on: August 28, 2023, 07:56:07 PM
I am not a chronic gambler and what I mean I'm essence is that I don't frequently gamble so I can't be sure I have any month am favoured to have much winnings in gambling. Just have to take the winnings whenever it comes and same  goes too with the loses.

As far as gambling is concerned there are periods you may be fortunate enough to have streaks of winnings in a particular month and it's normal cause it's possible you may not have to win as much again in the other month's, you can make one win even in two months or more, all of these falls on our luck and theirs no particular months or months for winning in gambling for anyone, I have never heard of it.

1177  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Can money be saved in gambling sites? on: August 27, 2023, 09:40:50 PM
I think it's good to ask this kind of questions on whether we can save money on gambling site but it is not surprising that many gamblers are already saving there money there without fully aware of what they are doing. Leaving all your funds and profits you have made for a certain period of time on a gaming or gambling website is just like we are saving our money there.

You could be right mate, as we speak there could be some persons who have their several wins stock in one of these gambling site they are using waiting for when the money will amount to maybe 7 figured before they will make withdrawal and they can be doing this without a prior notification about the risk associated to such method of savings. Like one comment from a member stated in one of the atop comments that they can be labeled with money laundry charge which could lead to the loss of their funds as you may not have forensic evidence to prove otherwise particularly if it happens to be with a non reputable gambling site.
1178  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Lessons Taken from Previous Bull Markets: How Will Your Approach Change? on: August 27, 2023, 08:00:34 PM

Looking Back: The past bull runs have been full of excitement and sometimes nerve-wracking moments. There's a bunch of stuff we can learn from those times. Remember the big runs in 2017 and 2021? And even the recent ups and downs? What did you take away from all of that? Maybe you realized how important it is to set clear goals for how much profit you want. Or maybe you saw that it's a good idea to spread out your investments and not jump into things just because others are. Let's talk about what we've figured out so that others can learn from us too.

Getting Ready for the Next Bull Run: If there's another big run coming up (we hope so!), it's a smart time to think about what you'll do differently. Are you planning to keep your investments for longer and not sell too soon? Or maybe you're thinking about taking some money out at certain points? Do you have a new way to handle risks in mind? Whether you're into looking at charts, doing research, or just keeping a cool head, lots of us would love to hear your thoughts.
The previous bull run's of 2017 and 2021 is an eye opener for some of us bitcoin holder that to every any ATH there's a corresponding fall that will follow afterwards,  so I don't plan on keeping my total investment  peradventure the bull run takes centre stage the plan is to take a certain amount of money out of the investment to other projects other than cryptocurrency. The end point was to make and take profit to diversify.
1179  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Am I using the right plan? on: August 27, 2023, 05:18:30 PM
[~snipped~]

The moment I saw the part that started that they got the site’s details from a telegram channel I just knew that it was going to be a scam sooner than later.

In scams like this it’s very difficult to get those that haven’t been scammed to leave it because they think they have proof that the site is legit since someone they know has been cashing out from it, without them realising that the site is only trying to make them believe that it indeed it is legit and as long as they keep paying some sets (most especially those that invested early) they’ll keep getting newbie (like your siblings) to register and when they feel they have accumulated enough money they’ll disappear into thin air.

It’s best you advise them to not refer others to the site ( although that’s the only way to earn significant amount from those sites) because you never can tell when the site will crash and if it happens that those he referred didn’t get to make their money back before it crashed he’ll be the one to pay them back i.e if he knows them.
This is my ernest fear at the moment, it's not about my bro but those he might introduce to the scheme and it later crash and they start coming after him it would direct or indirectly involved me since we're related. And like you did said, it's hard to convince those that haven't been scammed about these schemes, and to crown it all they are witnessing other people cash out profit at the moment. The thought that I can be called to answer for him if anyone he brings loses their money in the process and he's no where to be found, is what am stomaching right now.
1180  Other / Beginners & Help / Am I using the right plan? on: August 27, 2023, 04:07:53 PM
Today I was listening to my junior sibling and a friend of his having a conversation about a Ponzi Scheme that they both have invested in and how the friend to my bro has received his profit after the given number of days you need to wait for your profit to mature for withdrawal, and from the conversation that of my bro is yet to mature for withdrawal.

As the conversation was still lingering between their two I had to get closer and joined in the discussion acted like one with an interest to also invest too, from which I started asking them questions about the platform, the name, how it works and from what channel do they get informations about the platform.

From what they  said::
* The platform name -  KDB
* How it works - that after investing you have to wait for 5 working days for your investment to mature and yield profit before you can start making withdrawal, and for each person you bring in to register through your link you have a 10% interest of whatever amount they invested.
* Channel of information - telegram group channel.

After gathering all those informations from them I wanted to explain to them how what they are into is called a Ponzi Scheme and how it can crash at an instant and they lose their money and that it's a syndicate of scammers that's hiding behind the platform waiting for the right time to elope. I felt like talking to them about bitcoin and how's of guaranteed security than any of those schemes or cryptocurrency.  But when I looked at their countenance about this socalled scheme I was moved to hold my peace and let them learn from the hard way, as it will be more understood by them if they learn that way maybe they will give audience and interest to bitcoin when I'll have to introduce it to them after they must have been stinge by the KDB Ponzi Scheme. Because from their expressions there's nothing I will say at that time negative of the scheme that will sound truthful or make sense and I wasn't ready for argument neither.

I do want to know if my idea or decision on this is the right way?
And also have you come in contact with people that invests their money in any ponzi scheme and tried talking them out and what was their response ?

Meaningful opinions are welcome.
