Hard Facts
Here is a hard fact for you. According to this (old) article, 66% of sub-Saharan Africans don't have a bank account.
https://www.itnewsafrica.com/2018/12/66-percent-of-sub-saharan-africans-are-listed-as-unbanked-world-bank/
The numbers aren't important. If it's 60, 50, 40% it doesn't really matter.

Some people are forced to find alternatives to traditional banking systems. Others simply don't like it for various reasons that I am not going to go into right now. While it is true that you would be limiting your sales only to users who accept crypto payments, you are wrong in calling those who prefer Bitcoin 'idiots'. Take a look at the name of the forum in the top left corner and decide if this is the right place for you or not.
11622  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Old lesson: Don't rely on your phone. Always save your wallet seeds on: March 30, 2020, 03:51:19 PM
Most of my funds are in cold storage as well but I also use a few software wallets and Coinomi for my Android phone. But all seeds and private keys are written down my hand in hidden. In case my phone breaks I have a backup of the seed. Too bad you didn't and you dropped your phone. Losing any amount sucks particularly when it could have been prevented. I hope those $50 don't mean that much to you.
11623  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Is Betting Double After Losing is Really a Good Decision? on: March 29, 2020, 10:00:50 AM
Betting double doesn't guarantee you will win. In theory you can flip a coin 10 times and bet on the wrong side every time. So even with a 50/50 chance there is no such thing as a safe bet. And there is always a house edge that will get to you sooner or later.
11624  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Electrum Telegram run by scammer on: March 29, 2020, 09:39:26 AM
Wait, what? I can delete other people's messages?
Yes, the messages you exchange with someone can be deleted by either of the two parties, like they never happened. It's complete madness and makes no sense. Imagine if I could delete the PMs I sent to you on this forum if I change my mind or if...

Telegram is unreliable and insecure when dealing with someone privately. It's only to be used as a group messaging app but certainly not if you intend to do business with someone.
I don't know if you can edit PMs as well. Huh I wouldn't be surprised if they allow this as well. You can edit your posts you write in groups.
11625  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Ledger Live Nano missing btc on: March 29, 2020, 09:13:13 AM
If you checked your address/addresses on an explorer and the balance is correct, that is a good thing. You could have made a mistake and entered a wrong word while restoring your wallet. Are you 100% sure you used the correct words and sequence? Go back and check the words again and make sure they are correct. If you enter a different word or sequence, you will see a completely different set of addresses with 0 balance.
11626  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: JAXX liberty WALLET on: March 29, 2020, 09:04:37 AM
I don't understand why you need to spend those coins now and purchase new ones from an ATM. What happened when you tried to import your private keys into Electrum? Tell us in detail what you did. Did you follow TryNinja's advice above and what went wrong?

Have you clicked on the links and followed the instructions he posted?

11627  Other / Meta / Re: game-protect, is he permanently banned? on: March 28, 2020, 10:26:46 AM
Yes, he has been banned. https://bpip.org/profile.aspx?p=game-protect
The modlog shows no info about the ban so it wasn't done in the last few days. Maybe we will see a thread by him in Meta complaining about the ban.
11628  Other / Meta / Re: Locked Account on: March 28, 2020, 10:20:01 AM
But not sure if it has to be from the same email sent as the account was registered with?
It would be better if you could send it from the original email. It is more credible that way. At least send it from the email address currently associated with your account and not a new one totally unrelated to it.
11629  Other / Meta / Re: Suggestion: allow on-forum altcoin giveaways for established altcoins on: March 28, 2020, 10:12:01 AM
Scams are not moderated but at least spam is. And these giveaways tend to create lots of it.
So do Bitcoin giveaways. Those temp bans that were recently issued were given to members who participated during the weeks that altcoins were given out. But when Bitcoin was given away there were no bans. If the spam those types of post create is the problem, then it is all the same.

If I have to post my casino username to get Bitcoin, it's the same type of no-value post as if I have to do the same to get Litecoin.
I understand very well that the bans were not issued for the spam part, but for taking part in an altcoin giveaway. I am just making a point.

a lot of users lost their bitcoins after downloading a malicious wallet from the official bitcoin gold website that infected their computer and stole their private keys...
Users lose Bitcoin every day downloading fake Electrum wallets. The same security measures we undergo when downloading and verifying Electrum should be done with other software as well and if in doubt, don't use it.

Bitcoin Gold is not something I would vote for or allow either and I doubt it would find its way on the list.

11630  Economy / Gambling / Re: warning:Never bet on betonline they Stole my money for 3 weeks on: March 28, 2020, 09:45:26 AM
Just wait it out and see what happens. There is nothing anyone here can do to help you or force them to initiate your withdrawal faster. If they don't honor what they promised you, you can start thinking about the next steps. Unfortunately, these are special circumstances. I am not sure how it affects their operations but maybe it does. Try to keep your calm and hope for the best.
11631  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Electrum Telegram run by scammer on: March 28, 2020, 09:30:05 AM
Snip
Another bad thing with Telegram is that it allows one party to delete all private conversations with other users.
For example if we talked over PM on Telegram, I can delete all traces that we ever talked. You wouldn't be able to see any history of our PMs and have no proof if you needed it.
You would have to make screenshots to use that as proof. It creates many opportunities for scammers to do whatever they want and simply delete the PM history once they are done.
11632  Other / Meta / Re: Lastest post on top of the thread on: March 27, 2020, 12:07:57 PM
Wouldn't it will be better if we may see the last page / post of the thread first ?
No, not really. You are supposed to read the opening post or statement written by the thread starter and continue reading the replies in a chronological order. After you are done with that you have a general idea what the OP wanted to say, maybe there are pros and cons, and you are then able to make your own comment taking into consideration everything that has been said already.
11633  Other / Meta / Re: Suggestion: allow on-forum altcoin giveaways for established altcoins on: March 27, 2020, 11:58:53 AM
If somebody is too stupid to properly asses which is actually a genuine coin and which is a scam, then you should care. If you do not, then there is a fundamental morality flaw...
Me or you caring or not caring will not change the fact that ETH is a Top 5 (if not a Top 3) coin in terms of market cap and trading volume, would you agree with me on that? If that volume is fake or not, is not for me to say. But that is what the numbers say. The crypto community is certainly using it.

As for morality, be sure that I know how to distinguish right from wrong, and I know which group I belong to.

So...
This whole giveaway idea should usually help new coins/tokens.
That is exactly what it is not supposed to do. It's not a new bounty idea to help the newest "revolutionary, world-changing ICO". The topic of discussion is whether or not to allow giveaways for "established" altcoins.
11634  Other / Meta / Re: Suggestion: allow on-forum altcoin giveaways for established altcoins on: March 27, 2020, 11:30:04 AM
I don't see why certain changes to altcoin giveaways couldn't be made or why that would hurt the forum. The easiest way to do it is to allow only Top 10/20 coins according to CMC. That would prevent questioning admin decisions as to why a certain coin was allowed or not allowed. Only those being used, stored and traded the most are allowed - others aren't.

Grin was also not something Satoshi brought and it has become a payment method on his forum. Good, why wouldn't it. We will soon see Taproot and Schnorr Signature upgrades but Satoshi didn't envision that either.

I like Bitcoin better but if someone prefers to use ETH that is his right, I don't care. If that someone wants to give away a $50 ETH it doesn't hurt me in any way. Heck if he gave it to me I would exchange it for BTC so there you go, ETH finally has a use case.  Grin

I think we are too small of a community and interest group to be holding each other back.
11635  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Football Transfers Speculation, Odds and Predictions on: March 27, 2020, 10:45:36 AM
They can't buy him now.
He has a clause for 75 millions enabled from 2022.
They can still buy him if both teams reach terms on the deal. The release clause only means that an offer of €75 Million can not be turned down by his club (from 2022).

...we have rumors about a potential agreement for Halaand-Juventus with the deal of Emre Can on the last winter session.
A strong center forward is certainly needed by Juventus. It remains to be seen in what financial condition Juve will be after the Corona crisis. I believe we wont be seeing €100+ Million deals in the near future.

Is this the site?
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BetOnline
I am surprised that an article like this is in accordance with the rules of Wikipedia.

I found two other threads from this forum where the OPs mentioned they got scammed by this site. I didn't check the claims in any way so this is just for reference.

I tried something similar a few months ago. A few newbies had fairly decent posts and I awarded about 10-15 merits altogether. But overall it is an ungrateful task.
As time passed the interest for my thread diminished so I gave up on the whole idea.
11638  Other / Meta / Re: Images Not showing on: March 26, 2020, 10:30:24 AM
I looked through your post history trying to find one of those images, thinking maybe you posted a link to one somewhere. But there is nothing there except social media bounty reports. Can you share a link to one such image that is not showing up so we can check what is wrong with it?
11639  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Bitcointalk has been blocked in Russia because of Gambling advertisement on: March 26, 2020, 10:22:26 AM
Lol what a decision. Blocking access to a thread created on a site 4 years ago.

Russian government: What is this, lets see... I don't understand anything so we will just block access to the whole thing. Problem solved.
Use TOR or private socks5 and nothing is blocked.
11640  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: The trouble! I need some help / Advice!!! on: March 26, 2020, 10:06:35 AM
the main takeaway from this fiasco is, keep away from Blockchain exchange!
Keep away from web wallets in general and most of the software wallets, especially the closed-source ones. Don't keep you funds on exchanges either, they are a medium for exchange and not storage. Stick with Electrum as a software wallet and keep your seed off your hard drive or any online service. Write it down with a pen and paper and hide it.

Seriously consider investing in a hardware wallet if you are planning to hold Bitcoin again sometimes in the future. I'd recommend Ledger.
