The problem is not with the BBL. The issue arises when Cricket Australia schedules the Indian tour in such a way, that it overlaps with the BBL schedule. This means less revenue for the broadcasters, and the unavailability of national players for franchise duty. When the TV channels pay such huge amounts for the media rights, they expect better support and understanding from Cricket Australia.
Is the schedule really creating revenue issues for the broadcasters, i understand the reason they scheduled the Indian tour and the only reason is to generate the revenue that is lost due to the pandemic and the format of matches they are playing is different and the only players that will be missing is Smith and Warner along with the bowlers.

Warner has already made it clear that he is not interested in the BBL. But the audience ratings and viewership figures are really low, since the national team is also playing at the same time. It wasn't an easy decision for Cricket Australia to schedule the Indian tour, but in that case they could have postponed the BBL by a month or two. Current scenario hurts the brand value of the BBL.
11722  Economy / Economics / Re: China Economy Forecasted to Surpass US Economy by 2028 on: January 10, 2021, 03:36:23 AM
Interethnic and sectarian conflicts can threaten any large country simply because of its size, and that is why central governments exist to deal with such issues. Another issue is that I don't have strong confidence that a few million inhabitants can so much threaten the integrity of a country with 1.4 billion people predominantly belonging to one ethnic group called "Han", which makes up 93% of the population. For modern China, ideological and property stratification is much more dangerous, when the political system may not keep up with the rapidly growing well-being of citizens who may demand more respect for their own opinions.

China is a very homogenous country, and it gives them a big advantage over other countries such as India, United States and Russia, which are heterogenous. Not just 93% of the population is Han, but a large portion of the population is made of assimilated ethnic groups such as Manchu and Tujia, who speak the Mandarin language and are hard to distinguish from the Han. Only a few smaller ethnic groups such as Uyghur and Tibetan have resisted complete assimilation. And the citizens don't complain much, since their disposable income is increasing every year.

Other countries are caught up in a web of preferential treatment and affirmative action to certain ethnic group, which leads to inter-ethnic hostility.

The Irish team played very well once upon a time. But in the last few years, I have not heard any news of their series. The team was almost lost. Now they are coming back again. Although they lost the match yesterday, they played well enough. And by watching their game I realized they have a lot of talented players. Paul Stirling is one of them.

Irish team is just disintegrating. The quality of cricket is declining because they are not allowed to play against the older test playing nations. Once in a while they play against weak teams like Scotland and Canada, and that is not doing much to improve their quality. On paper they have the test status. However in the three years since they received their test status, they have played a total of only 3 matches.

Well, that might also just be Chinese propaganda telling Westerners that, "Hey we are better than you, we are your masters now". Tin-foil hats on, but China is demoralizing you.

It is true that there are very few new infections in China, whatever may be the reason for that. For the last 7 months or so, the number of active cases in China has remained in three digits, with the number of daily new cases never getting in to three digits. Now compare this to countries such as the United Kingdom, which had 59,937 new cases and 1,035 new deaths just yesterday.
11725  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: [Boxing] Floyd Mayweather vs. Logan Paul - February 20 on: January 10, 2021, 03:06:19 AM
You should also consider the age factor as well, Floyd Mayweather is 43 years and Logan Paul is 25 years with less injuries as he is not even a full time boxer and Mayweather will be having multiple injuries because of the fights he had throughout his long career even though he is retired from active boxing. Skill wise you cannot even compare them, but in a fight one lucky punch could change the fight even if it is for exhibition.

That depends on whether "one lucky punch" from Logan Paul would floor Floyd Mayweather or not. IMO, that is not possible. Logan Paul doesn't have enough power in his punches and Floyd is experienced as hell. Even if he lands a lucky punch, it will be hardly having any impact on Floyd. But I seriously doubt whether he will be able to land even one punch on Floyd.

Once again, it was Marnus Labuschagne/Steven Smith show for Australia. The other batsmen are hardly contributing anything (apart from Will Pucovski in the first innings and Cameron Green in the second). If the other batsmen are not scoring runs, then I believe that it will be better if they go with a 5-member or 6-member bowling attack. Bowlers such as Michael Neser and James Pattinson will be able to score at least 10-15 runs each per innings (which is more than what batsmen such as Matthew Wade has managed to score).
11727  Economy / Economics / Re: Tesla overtake Amazon? on: January 09, 2021, 04:16:13 AM
I don't have anything against Tesla (TSLA), but it is the most overpriced stock I could find in the market. The P/E ratio is more than 1,700, which is almost a hundred times the average level. AMZN also looks overpriced, with a P/E of more than 90, but not anyway near those levels for Tesla. The next time when a major market crash occurs, these stocks are going to drop like crazy.
11728  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: BREAKING - Market Cap hits $1 Trillion on: January 09, 2021, 04:06:46 AM
It has decreased somehow and as you've said it was on 68.7%. Because a few days ago it was 70%+ and now it's back to that percentage. Which means that the dominance is getting back again and increasing. If you don't think that a correction won't happen before that. We've been experiencing it whenever it crosses to a new ATH. From $40k and it dropped to $37k and then again, it's happening. We'll get to see more of the corrections for it to start crossing $50k soon.

The Bitcoin dominance is 70.0% right now, and previously it had stayed above the 70% level only for a short time. But the overall trend points to increasing market share by BTC, and it has occurred despite a slight recovery in the XRP prices. When the rally started some three months back, the figure was 58%. It has been continuously increasing even since, and for the next few weeks also we can expect the trends to continue.
11729  Economy / Speculation / Re: Are people buying BTC @ $27000+ idiots? on: January 09, 2021, 03:56:57 AM
Just looking back at the OP, the post was actually made less than two weeks back. It means that Bitcoin went from $27,000 to $40,000 in such a short time. Actually OP was right in pointing out that the investment should have been made when BTC was trading at $4,000 per coin. Well.. that was the logical thing to do. But again, the current rally proves that it is never too late to invest in cryptocurrency.
11730  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Test Cricket Prediction and Discussion Thread [self - mod] on: January 09, 2021, 03:46:15 AM
Just unbelievable. When I made my previous post India were at 195/4. Now they are 214/8. Just shows how quickly the situation can change in cricket, even in the longer format. Ravindra Jadeja is still there, but on the other end we have Jasprit Bumrah, with Siraj to come. The immediate priority for India right now is to keep the Australian lead in two digits. For that, they need to score another 23 runs.
11731  Economy / Economics / Re: Second lockdown due to covid19 is painful on: January 09, 2021, 03:36:06 AM
This year is really hard but it will just go harder as another variants are being found. Another lockdown is hard but it is inevitable since the new variants are said to be more dangerous. All of us are having a hard time, especially those that are directly affected by these virus. What we need right now is to adjust and keep on living. We need to be strong and make ways to earn for ourselves and our family.

Whatever lockdown measures are implemented now, they will not be there for long. Vaccination has already started, and according to Boomberg 18.9 million people have received the first shot of the vaccine (including 7.1 million in the United States and 1.5 million in the United Kingdom). Within a couple of months, hopefully we will be able to witness a steep decline in the number of new infections.
11732  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Indian Super League (ISL) Football match updates, predictions and discussions on: January 09, 2021, 03:26:50 AM
Today's match was won by Hyderabad 4-2. But NorthEast United tried their best to score. But they could not afford to score. If we consider on-target shots, then NorthEast has made 8 on target shots while Hyderabad made 5. With the win, Hyderabad has risen to the third position in the points table.

Just checked the points table and I was astonished to find Hyderabad FC at the third place, with 15 points from 10 matches. I think this is the highest position in ranking they ever got, since the ISL started. The top two positions are still occupied by Mumbai City FC and ATK Mohun Bagan, with 20 and 22 points respectively. They have maintained such a large gap between the rest. The NEUFC is at 7th position, which seems to be their worst showing for sometime.
11733  Economy / Economics / Re: NFL Player Salary Paid in Bitcoin on: January 09, 2021, 03:15:43 AM
I think a very good decision was made by Russell Okung by asking for salary paid in Bitcoin. As the current Bitcoin price continues to skyrocket,
I believe Russell Okung will influence other NFL players to do the same. If more and more people ask for salary payments in Bitcoin, this could
make Bitcoin more acceptable to more people. The result will increase the Bitcoin price.

A few years ago, celebrity adoptions such as the one from Russell Okung would have made an impact at the cryptocurrency market. But now, with hundreds of millions of users and large number of mainstream companies accepting Bitcoin, it may not make much movement. But the fact is that Okung made the request two years back, in 2019. The media ignored it then. They are covering it now because the Bitcoin hype is back.
11734  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: ODI cricket and general cricketing discussion [self - mod] on: January 09, 2021, 03:03:45 AM
Paul Stirling is surely one of the best all rounder for Ireland. Maybe the most important player after Kevin O Brien.
But I'm really sad to see how far behind the Irish team has fell. They had an impressive performance in 2006-2016 but have failed to deliver and justify their test status. They were struggling before and they gave a forgettable game even after the pandemic.

Test status hasn't changed anything for Ireland. They are having test status only in name. They are not allowed to play tests against teams other than Zimbabwe and Afghanistan. On top of that, the share of revenues that they receive from the ICC remain far below what other countries such as Zimbabwe receive annually. I don't have high expectations from Ireland. They will end up like what happened to Kenya two decades ago.
11735  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: [Boxing] Floyd Mayweather vs. Logan Paul - February 20 on: January 09, 2021, 02:52:57 AM
Pacquiao can continue to want anything. Aside from his all-consuming desire to make money, Mayweather is currently even more afraid of messing up his win-win statistics because Pacquiao has some chances of winning. Therefore, let the superboy be at stake a lot of money, but Floyd will prefer to earn a lot of smaller amounts using his status as an invincible boxer and no one will be able to do anything about it.

Floyd's earnings from these exhibition matches may not be that small. The PPV for Floyd vs Logan match is priced at $89.99 and there will be at least 3 million purchases as per my estimate. And the vast majority of that revenue is going to Floyd, with Logan Paul receiving a relatively small fraction. On top of that, there will be other revenue sources, such as gate collection and advertisement.
11736  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Test Cricket Prediction and Discussion Thread [self - mod] on: January 09, 2021, 02:41:47 AM
There is still no definite advantage to any of the two sides and even now it is difficult to predict who will be able to get the first innings lead. The partnership between Cheteshwar Pujara and Rishabh Pant has added 46 runs till now, and Ravindra Jadeja is yet to bat. But the Australian bowlers look lackluster, especially Mitchell Starc and Nathan Lyon.
11737  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bittrex delisting XMR, DASH and ZEC. Will this affect Bitcoin? on: January 08, 2021, 05:44:32 AM
Ideally privacy coins should not be traded in regulated exchanges. Coins such as Monero and Zcash were invented in order to provide the maximum level of anonymity for the users. When that is the case, the fact that the majority of their trade volume comes from regulated exchanges is quite surprising. Ideally, these coins should be traded in P2P or DEX sites, which offer more privacy protection.
11738  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What happens to my bitcoin if I die today? on: January 08, 2021, 04:34:11 AM
If you die somewhere without telling your private key to anyone, your coins will forever be in your wallet.
It is improbable to break the secret key, nor the client service can help. So it's better to mindful of somebody about your access.
Nobody knows when will you die, and that's why I always let my wife know what I am doing and the private key. There always should be a backup.

If you are around 25 years old, what is the probability that you may die in a given year? Looking at the life tables for various countries, I would say that the probability is around 0.02%. On the other hand, what is the probability that your Bitcoin wallet may get hacked in a given year? IMO, it may be around 2%. So the latter scenario is having a much higher probability and we should be more worried about it.
11739  Economy / Economics / Re: Second lockdown due to covid19 is painful on: January 08, 2021, 04:18:44 AM
This is going to be exceptionally difficult for everyone involved, lockdowns are very hard on people, for the most part people live day by day and they do not have any savings and the few that did most likely have already used them during the pandemic to pay for medical services or just to pay for all what we need to protect ourselves in our daily lives, this means that a new generalized lockdown could be even worse than the first one as people are incapable of taking it anymore.

A choice needs to be made between implementing a lockdown or opting for more deaths and infections from COVID 19. Considering that, the governments don't have any other choice available. Anyway, it is just a matter of one or two months. By then, the peak winter will be over in the Northern hemisphere and the impact of the vaccination program will be visible.
11740  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Test Cricket Prediction and Discussion Thread [self - mod] on: January 08, 2021, 04:01:26 AM
Excellent inning from Smudge, Champion batsman finally found his hand again . Good comeback from Indian bowlers, they did excellent job wrapping Aussie inning under 350. Its below par score in Sydney when batting first, average score of batting first is close to 450 runs so job well done. How good was Jadeja today with the ball and field, Smith run out was amazing.

Now its all up to batmen.

338 is not a bad total, but at one point it looked as if Australia would struggle to cross the 300 mark. They made it, thanks to Steve Smith. For India, both Ravichandran Ashwin and Mohammed Siraj failed to impress. I think Siraj should concentrate on his game rather than on the theatrics. Bumrah and Saini did well, but it was Jadeja who kept Australia to a sub-350 total.
