So 365 BC should more or less give another 1 coin per day per wallet
11742  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [6600 TH] BTC Guild - Pays TxFees+NMC, Stratum, VarDiff, Private Servers on: April 01, 2014, 09:08:30 PM
i found the btcguild thread .
akin to the holy grail, you are saved

I just noticed https://www.scryptguild.com/ in eleuthria's sig so I will check that out and hopefully recommend it elsewhere, good stuff and is there a separate thread for that
11743  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Countries that are not mining. on: April 01, 2014, 09:05:43 AM
A server rack in an igloo.  Now that's innovation.
Ive read of people in Alaska very keen on mining as they would use alot of power in any case, its like a rebate on the fuel bill

UK doesnt mine much, I believe Russia does and thats why its banned.     Should it not include pools also

11746  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Electric bills for mining on: April 01, 2014, 05:54:54 AM
Ive heard of people setting a hole near a street lamp and running a wire into the setup.   this was not mining but drugs but its a similar deal in needing lots of elec
11747  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Mining With rooter or a videophone or any other similar device? on: April 01, 2014, 05:35:14 AM
mining on a phone is possible, there is an app for that.   I remember reading a while back and at the time it was considered not really worth it, diff has risen like 50x over since then so you'd struggle to make a cent I guess

There are cpu coins but I wont discuss that, btc is long past this stage unfortunately but in theory I guess many things can process data though it must be alot of effort to code each one
11748  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Earth hour. does anyone mining care? on: April 01, 2014, 05:29:23 AM
Mining represents energy saving, its alot less resources consumed then sending out a money truck or doping out some cotton for dollar bills.   Its all comparative

I'm really bad at soldering so to me that's not really an option

me too though good equipment helps.   replacing a wire shouldnt involve anything hot, often its just a case of twist something into shape or yanking it out, a pair of pliers works.    So if the wire is soldered in place, you could snip it half way and just twist on a new piece as its only low amps I dont see its a big deal.
Depends how desperate you are,  that is a caustic noise really.   Stick it in the cupboard or a box with tubes in and out it'll probably be fine at that max speed

80/20 that China will ban bitcoin businesses etc from dealing with banks in the mainland directly

China doesnt let business freely exchange for dollars so far as I know so btc ban probably slots into that policy; command economy and all
btc is a network economy supposedly

1% does compound to quite alot for AER but yea this is just bonkers.    Try laying down some purchases in this thread as you make them, then a new post as you sell.

If you do well, people may well trust you in a week, a month or whenever.   Good luck Smiley
11753  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: A case study in entry-level mining on: April 01, 2014, 01:36:02 AM
Its rare to have someone update a thread like this through thick and thin.   You could write a book at this point  Grin

I started not that long before you but I took the route of GPU not asic so my parallel is not as studious more of a minor diversion to this new crypto phenomena.   I used to mine BTC and I totally agree btcguild is very well done.    I still have the NMC I had from back then as I vowed to keep it as part of the long game.

I upped the stakes with more GPU and eventually switched to Scrypt mining, quite late really.   I do use the GPU in its natural habitat so asic was never as much appeal to me.   I have covered my original costs just about I think and the heat is nice in the winter .    My general policy was to hold mining proceeds for the next upswing, I have sold too early often but other times was lucky to sell in December.   I had Quark long before its upswing, I sold it and regretted so since then Ive tried to focus on the dynamics of why coins are even used and generally trade in and out.
My story roughly ends as I dont mine much for the moment and I may not bother for summer but I hold some btc and others and Im still interested in various codes used and which might prosper vs BTC   Asic is coming to altcoins so if you are asking where next, its a possibility to go that route

[ I forgot to mention, holding BTC I actually bought royalty shares in exchanges.    That has been very profitable as again its another form of trading, so I can say the best success was actually using the BTC and backing those who operate in this economy.  Of course that is risky but so is the whole deal]
11754  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Is this noise level for the Antminer S1 normal? on: April 01, 2014, 01:00:22 AM
I thought the start of the vid was demostrating the noise, I was thinking thats just fine and you cant sleep  Huh    But yes thats like a hoover, not quite as bad as a delta / jet turbine fan I have a couple of but about as bad as it gets, 60db ? and imo 30db is comfortable.    If your room was over 30c then its going to be loud as hot air is less dense, etc

Quote
Depends on the temperature in the room

Thats not it then because its full revs as soon as he turns it on.    Air temp to solid transfer would take some time at least and its not hot while turned off, only if presuming the heatsink is not properly seated and I wont say that

Its the fan wire most probably.   Theres power and there is one wire for measuring rpm of the fan.    If it cant read that, it'll max the volts to max the rpm (as failsafe).      So very cheapest fix is to replace the wire or at least plug in another fan perhaps

11755  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Will miners in USA be able to remain competitive due to huge tax burden? on: April 01, 2014, 12:46:04 AM
Your question shows a complete lack of understanding tax laws.
had to otherwise the rest of the world would be too efficient for it to be worth our time. But now it's in stone, Bitcoin mining in the United States will essentially be impractical. Hardware that is cost effective in China most likely will not be cost effective in the United States.

I could easily be wrong, in fact I want to be.

Thats a good point, its a global product.  Why on earth bother paying homage to gov bods in one country when it has zero transportation costs.  USA is not the largest consumer so I guess they cant just setup virtual import tariffs for this luxury good.

This is why I don't think bitcoins have much longer to live
Lucky this is just one country.  How many people in the world, its the world that counts not politics from one place.

This relates to tax havens, to the Smoot–Hawley Tariff Act and just generally the inherent failure of government thinking and how it suppresses innovation in every field outside military and politics and this is why Washington DC has replaced silicon valley as the fastest growth area of the USA
11756  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Is Microsoft mining? on: April 01, 2014, 12:27:27 AM
Not a botnet but I agree its not likely become company policy this month
11757  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Bitcoin price is down again. WHY ? on: April 01, 2014, 12:03:38 AM
The value of Bitcoin lies in its ability to function despite government disapproval.
Unfortunately yes.   Inflation is a form of tax that takes from income and your personal belongings, you cant avoid it and not expect a problem as it deprives gov of their needed funding.  Personally I think gov should spend less but its just inevitable there will be a clash.

Also I agree this 'law' is incorrect and unworkable, it criminalises the population of users which can be said to be no problem so long as they stay a minority but it runs contrary to what most expect USA to represent.

Both China and USA are united on this as they both control personal capital of their population.  The story on business could well be true, I think china has drawn the line in only allowing personal transaction.   That is feasible in an exchange way and I guess helps to throttle large capital outflows
11758  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Official BlackCoin statement from CryptoRush - Very shocking information on: March 31, 2014, 11:19:19 PM
So are we likely to get back the blackcoin from cryptorush at any point or is that concluded as a loss

Since gov uses inflationary measures to tax not just income but any personal cash, it is likely anonymity is essential to avoid the endless pursuit of any wealth outside big gov.   It may well be that trend accentuates dark coin greatly over the years or even months depending how events unfold

Sounds good, I'll be setting this up later.  Which pool works best for UK
