11761  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin gradually clinching to $40k on: January 06, 2021, 04:04:27 AM
Currently, there is no resistance we can see in the chart. So one thing that might stop this bullish trend is news or a catalyst. Let's hope for the better. But it isn't healthy also that BTC kept on rising right?

Looking at the order books of various exchanges, I can't see any massive sale orders around $40,000 as well. This means that unlike the case with what happened in 2013 and 2017, this time most of the investors are in for the long term. They are not satisfied with 50% or 60% profits. They do have confidence that Bitcoin can reach a level much higher than $35,000 or $40,000 per coin.
11762  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Gamblers - How do you use your signature campaign earnings? on: January 06, 2021, 03:56:31 AM
For me, it is a combination of all three options. Right now I am a part of the Stake.com signature campaign, and in the future I had participated in signature campaigns for other gambling sites. In the past I have gambled with my signature earnings, sent some of it to my personal wallet for HODL, and I have converted a part of the earnings to either fiat cash or online gift cards. Now the exact proportion is not fixed. I gamble when I feel there is a good chance of getting a win. It is not pre-planned.
11763  Economy / Economics / Re: We, bitcoiners, should buy a bank on: January 06, 2021, 03:44:03 AM
Buying a bank will be of very little use and it can be a very expensive option. I would suggest purchasing a country. I am not joking about it. In some of the African countries, you can bribe the dictatorships and do whatever you want. Also, there are some countries with limited international recognition, such as Western Sahara and Somaliland. These states would be more open to proposals from Bitcoiners.
11764  Economy / Economics / Re: Is bitcoin volatility here to stay? on: January 06, 2021, 03:33:32 AM
I would like to remind a few things. Most of the posters consider Bitcoin to be volatile, because it's exchange rate versus the US Dollar is not very stable. In the past 3 months, the exchange rate has increased by almost 250% (no one is going to complain about that though). But now we are making the comparison with USD and the question is whether the USD is a stable asset or not? IMO, it is not. Especially after the multi-trillion stimulus program, its value (i.e the purchasing power) has gone down. So in order to have a stable exchange rate against the USD, Bitcoin needs to devalue its purchasing power.
11765  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: [Boxing] Floyd Mayweather vs. Logan Paul - February 20 on: January 06, 2021, 03:22:39 AM
KSI vs. Logan Paul match generated around 1.3 million PPV buys, which was very impressive for a boxing match between two amateurs. Since Mayweather is involved, we can expect that number to increase by manifold for this match. But while the KSI vs. Logan Paul had a price tag of £9.95 per PPV buy, I expect this match to be more expensive. So at least some of the fans are going to find it unaffordable.

Just hope that other fights in the card would be worth watching or at least be more excited than Mayweather vs Paul fight.

Btw, speaking about PPV prices, many will be disappointed as it will cost a lot for such a predicted fight. 80 bucks for such crap on the day of the fight - I'll pass...

As one of this even promotors is Mayweather Promotion, we might see someone from Floyds fighters in the card.

LOL.. so they are pricing it at $89.99 per PPV buy? It looks quite overpriced for me. The match between Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather in 2015 was available for almost the same rates. I don't know whether they will get 3 million buys this time, as they are expecting. But I have already made the decision, and I am neither going to watch it, or make a bet on any of the boxers.
11766  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Test Cricket Prediction and Discussion Thread [self - mod] on: January 06, 2021, 03:12:32 AM
Pakistan getting completely destroyed by Kyle Jamieson at Christchurch. They are trailing by 223 runs, with just three more wickets in hand. Another innings defeat looks very likely. Jamieson has so far taken 10 wickets in this test match, and his test bowling average now stands at an unbelievable 13.34 (35 wickets from 6 matches). And remember that Pakistan is in such a horrible position, although New Zealand is missing key bowlers such as Neil Wagner and Lockie Ferguson.
11767  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Tyler Winklevoss shilling for ETH? on: January 05, 2021, 04:47:08 AM
There were rumors back in 2018 that the Winklevii has suffered huge losses, after Ethereum plummeted to less than $100 per coin. I am not sure whether the twins sold any of their coin holdings at that rate or not, but they were in a difficult position. IMO, they should have just kept BTC in their portfolio. I don't think that any other coin has given the sort of returns that Bitcoin brought to them.
11768  Economy / Economics / Re: Second lockdown due to covid19 is painful on: January 05, 2021, 04:19:45 AM
Rich countries can easily acquire but the poor ones will likely lockdown for a long time. It's worse that could happen but this new variant is as deadly as its still covid19.

Well... you can check the vaccine contracts page from Bloomberg and see how many vaccine doses each country has booked for its citizens:

https://www.bloomberg.com/graphics/covid-vaccine-tracker-global-distribution/#dvz-section-purchasing

The richer countries have booked many times their requirement, while the poorer countries have covered only a small fraction of theirs. For example, Canada has ordered 228 million doses of the vaccines, which is enough to vaccinate 114 million people. But their population is only 37 million. On the other hand, Bangladesh has ordered only 16.6 million doses, which is enough to vaccinate just 5% of their population.
11769  Economy / Economics / Re: Loan scam in India allegedly headed by a Chinese Narional on: January 05, 2021, 04:09:53 AM
In the news saw about the loan scam in India. The Chinese people are found connected to the scam. As of now a small team has developed fee applications from an Singapore based company and has issued instant loans and getting heavy interest on repayment. In a very short time period more than ₹21000 crore has been transacted. This is huge and a 27 aged Chinese nationality is found to be the head.

Some of the posters have already pointed out that apart from a couple of Chinese nationals, most of the scamsters were Indian nationals. So I don't think that there is any point in highlighting the "Chinese" link. The Indian media want to sensationalize the news and may resort to such cheap tactics. I hope the authorities will not get carried away by it. The primary concern should be to help those who got victimized as a result of this scam.
11770  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: ETH hits $1000 on: January 05, 2021, 03:59:21 AM
If you look at coinmarketcap then ETH has not reached its ATH because the highest value during January 2018 was $ 1250 so it is not yet time to say that ETH, has just reached ATH but soon we will definitely see a new ATH

Well.. then we may get a new ATH in the next few days. Congratulations to all those who held on to Ethereum. At least now those who purchased their coins at ATH levels in 2018 can relax and plan their next steps. But the spike in 2018 was supported by solid fundamentals. The ICO boom helped ETH in a big way. But this time the spike is almost solely coming due to the impact from Bitcoin rally.
11771  Bitcoin / Press / Re: 2020-12-28 Bloomberg - Bitcoin on Longest Winning Run Since 2019 After Record on: January 05, 2021, 03:49:43 AM
I think that too: now it seems polkadot's time though. Dot adepts are being loud about the fact their platform will overtake Ethereum at some point.
Let them have 15 minutes of glory: on the long run, we all know what is the best asset to hold.

Any altcoin without unique real life usage is not going to thrive for long, and this is applicable for Polkadot as well. Eventually, Polkdot will lose most of its value and end up where Cardano is at right now. Overtaking Ethereum is never going to be easy, as they still have a huge monopoly in the smart contract platform sector. If the claim is just for hyping Polkadot, then I am fine with that.
11772  Economy / Economics / Re: Buying a Tesla with Bitcoin on: January 05, 2021, 03:38:05 AM
Is purchasing a luxury car using Bitcoin a very good idea right now? All of us know that there is a very good chance that the Bitcoin prices may jump by a lot during 2021-22. If you spend all of your coin holdings for such luxury items, then you may regret after a couple of years. For cars, the net worth depreciates with time, which is exactly opposite to the case we have with Bitcoin.
11773  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What happens when everyone just holds their bitcoin and theres few txs? on: January 05, 2021, 03:28:34 AM
As ranochigo pointed out, the fee reward represents only 5%-10% of the mining reward, as most of the remainder is made up of block reward (BTC6.25 at this point). So I don't think that the miners are that much adversely impacted. It may be an issue after a decade or so, when the block reward drops below BTC1.00. But right now I don't think that anyone needs to lose their sleep over it.
11774  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: [Boxing] Ryan Garcia vs Luke Campbell WBC Lightweight Interim Title (January 2) on: January 05, 2021, 03:18:50 AM
I wasn't much interested in this match, but I read about the controversy surrounding the scorecard, after Ryan Garcia won the match by TKO. It is really bizarre when two of the judges (Mark Lyson and Glenn Feldmann) have a 10-8 score, and the other judge (Rey Danseco) has the round at 9-10. If Danseco was the sole judge, then Luke Campbell would have won the match. Incidents such as this one gets fans disappointed with boxing.
11775  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: I quit smoking and buy Bitcoin every week on: January 05, 2021, 03:05:14 AM
Buying bitcoin has become your new addiction Smiley Laudable that you came with such a motivational idea to quit smoking.

There is a Russian anecdote:

"A person walk to a smoker and ask: "how much do you spend on cigarettes daily?"
Smoker: "5$"
Person: "if you would quit smoking 20 years ago, you would have bought a lambo today"
Smoker: "how old are you?"
Person: "25"
Smoker: "do you smoke?"
Person: "no"
Smoker: "where is your lambo?"

Hope you will be one that will prove the situation from anecdote.

Well.. here in India also we have similar sayings. If someone wants to give up smoking, then that decision should be purely voluntary. There could be financial and health benefits if someone decides to give up his smoking habit, but then again it is open to interpretation. And the outcome can vary from person to person. And obviously we need to remember that investing in Bitcoin do have its own risk factors.
11776  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Test Cricket Prediction and Discussion Thread [self - mod] on: January 05, 2021, 02:55:43 AM
Kane Williamson is slowly closing on his double hundred against Pakistan, and New Zealand is approaching a total of 500 (right now they are at 487/5). I was expecting a better performance from the Pakistani bowlers, after their good showing with the bat. But they look out of sorts and incapable of taking the wickets (even with supportive ground conditions). It is going to be an innings defeat for Pakistan.

Week  Date Bitcoin Price   Amount Of Bitcoin
1 13.12.2020      $19.176      ฿0,003650
2 20.12.2020      $23.429      ฿0,002987
3 27.12.2020      $27.483      ฿0,002547
3 03.01.2021      $32.850      ฿0,002130

Wow!! Just four weeks have passed, and you are already having more than BTC0.01 in your wallet. Just imagine what could have happened, if you had started this in 2018, or even in 2019. But then, it is never too late to invest in cryptocurrency. If the prices remain constant, then you may end up with BTC0.12-BTC0.13 by the end of this year. And more importantly, your health situation is going to improve.
11778  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin just smashed through $30k on: January 04, 2021, 04:35:26 AM
What is going on with Ethereum? It has went up by 30% during the last 24 hours. Now ETH is well past the historic resistance level of BTC0.03 per coin. Most of the other altcoins are up by anywhere from 15% to 25%, including Litecoin, Polkadot, Bitcoin Cash and Cardano. And the Bitcoin dominance has decreased from 72% to 69% in a matter of few hours. Are these trends going to hold?
11779  Economy / Economics / Re: Second lockdown due to covid19 is painful on: January 04, 2021, 04:19:29 AM
The governments of some countries already have plans to develop certain passports for vaccinated people, and those who will not be vaccinated will have certain restrictions not only in movement, but also in other areas of human activity. Based on this, many people may face a choice.

That sounds fair to me. If someone is refusing to take the vaccine, he is putting himself at an increased risk of getting infected with COVID 19, and at the same time he is increasing the risk for others as well. So the government may not allow the entry of such people in to crowded places such as supermarkets, cinema theatres, sports events.etc. I don't think that there is much to complain about this.
11780  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Indian Super League (ISL) Football match updates, predictions and discussions on: January 04, 2021, 04:09:54 AM
I was watching the match between ATK Mohun Bagan vs NorthEast United today. The match was a draw after half time. And NorthEast United was playing well enough. But in the second half, the rhythm of NorthEast United fell. And they digested two consecutive goals in a short time. After that, they were not able to make any good attack and could not score.

NorthEast United FC is in very poor form this season and the absence of some of their main players seems to have affected their performance. Bartholomew Ogbeche was their backbone until 2019, when he decided to leave for Kerala Blasters (now he is a part of the Mumbai City FC). Some of the other players, such as Seiminlen Doungel, Redeem Tlang, Rowllin Borges and Reagan Singh have also moved to other teams.
