SOLD.
1182  Economy / Auctions / Re: 24 hour auction **Natural lemon quartz from Brazil 8.40 cts** big emerald cut on: March 03, 2012, 04:41:56 PM
This was a great value at over 8 carats and only 5 bitcoin!  If anyone wants to snatch it up now for 5BTC I will let it go for that, and of course I will pay for registered air mail and you will get a tracking number.

Please bear in mind this is absolutely NOT hydrothermal synthetic like you see so much of on eBay!  We do sometimes sell synthetic stones, but we label them as such.  This is a natural lemon quartz that was mined from the earth!

Also please remember that when you buy from us you have the experience and knowledge of a GIA Graduate Gemologist at work for you!  This is not just my profession but also my passion.  I am always available to you to answer questions about gemstones or gemstone treatments or origins.

Please click the link in my signature for more information about me- David Fortier- and Tip Top Gem.

1185  Economy / Auctions / Re: 24 hour auction **UNTREATED African Welo opal from Ethiopia 2.48cts** SPICY on: March 03, 2012, 09:00:32 AM
This auction ends:

Sunday, March 4th at 08:59:31 AM
1186  Economy / Auctions / 24 hour auction **UNTREATED African Welo opal from Ethiopia 2.48cts** SPICY on: March 03, 2012, 08:59:31 AM
That's a nice bold lightning strike of reddish-Orange that you see lighting this stone up!  This is a totally natural untreated pear-shaped opal from Ethiopia and you are sure to love the color and patterns you see in this amazing stone.  The swirls and lightning bolts in both reddish-Orange and intense green have to be seen to be believed.

One of the secrets to opal's amazing display of color is that it contains up to 18% water.  There are also micro spheres of silica inside these gemstones that can be seen with an electron scanning microscope- the other piece of the "play of color" puzzle.  Before such technology was available people could only speculate on what made opals do what they do.

Because my wife Melanie and I actually live in the largest colored gemstone trading center in the world, it is very hard for others to compete with our quality and our pricing.  The supply chain for quality colored gemstones is long, and by the time you see them in Western consumer markets so many chefs have had their hand in the pie that the cost is exorbitant.  With bitcoin and the internet, there is just no reason to pay crazy premiums for quality gemstones.

In the "olden days" gemstones used to be divided into two categories- precious and semi-precious.  This is outdated now, but so you are aware the "precious" gemstones were diamond, opal, ruby, sapphire, and emerald.

This beautiful pear-shaped opal weighs 2.48 carats and measures 13.04 x 8.14 x 5.42mm deep.  African opals are coming into their own as more and more people discover the beauty of their colors and textured patterns.  It used to be that the premium for Australian material was huge; African opal was considered a low-cost substitute.  But as higher and higher quality opal finds its way from Ethiopia to the consumers and they see the quality of the stones the prices are rising rapidly.  Why own an average Australian opal with almost no play of color- just a murky, milky look- when you can own an opal with dazzling flashes of color for about the same price?  This is driving demand for Ethiopian opal in the current market.

This stone will begin at 14BTC and the bid increment is .5BTC.  It's only 24 hours so bid now if you are interested- don't let it get away from you!

1191  Economy / Auctions / Re: 24 hour auction **Ethiopian Welo opal from Africa 4.13 cts** WOW! on: March 03, 2012, 07:20:37 AM
This opal is just darn hard to shoot.  I tried it with a little different background and lighting and got better results but it is not as beautiful as real life.  Opal has such a dynamic character that it is hard to capture it in pictures.

The blue and green are very beautiful in this opal.  It also has a graceful outline and a nice high dome, making it even more appealing.  It would make a fabulous pendant or ring.  And yes, we do make both pendants and rings.  You can choose sterling silver, palladium, platinum 900 or 950, and white or yellow gold in 14K or 18K.  We even have white gold with no nickel which is an excellent hypoallergenic choice.  Instead of nickel the gold is alloyed with palladium.  We can do 22K yellow gold as well.

LOL!

I actually knew about btcpak.com; I am wondering if trading directly would get me a better rate.  On the other hand, the guy behind btcpak.com is a trusted member and risk would be very low.
1197  Economy / Goods / Re: Raw Burmese honey on: March 03, 2012, 05:02:41 AM
Starlightbreaker if you need a larger quantity and I can pack in bulk I can make a special price for you.  I just need to make sure I can get enough of it- my contact usually only has a 750ml bottle or two by the time he gets to me.
1198  Economy / Goods / Re: Raw Burmese honey on: March 02, 2012, 07:09:29 PM
How about this ercolinux- 5 bitcoins will get you two bottles delivered.  If after you taste it you feel bad about the lower price you can just post on the thread here about how much you love it and how you took advantage of me, and my sales will boom and all will be well.   Smiley

I asked a friend of mine why he always buys the Burmese honey instead of Thai honey and he said "because it tastes creamy!"  And I could not have said it better myself.
