1181  Economy / Economics / Re: Effects: Over-reliance on the US dollar on: June 28, 2023, 04:43:29 PM
Do nations really need to have a financial reserve in a particular currency of a nation? What are the implications of having reserves in multiple currencies? The dollar has been very stable because the US and its allies have always controlled the world economy. Currently, more nations like China and others have built their economy and they also want to control some segments of the world's economy.
I believe there are countries that have more than one currency as their federal reserve. Yuan, Pounds, Euros, Dollars are all federal reserve currencies. The dollar is only the most popular in this regard. Diversification isn't the issue here. The issue is if one of these currencies depreciates, it affects the country that is using it as a reserve.
What I find dreadful in all these is, a particular country can suffer from the negligence or bad government, bad monetary and fiscal policies of another country. Like how countries suffered because of the increased inflation rates in the U.S.

The point is diversification. Should any single currency fail, your portfolio will not entirely lose its value. USD is not stable anymore. Setting aside inflation -- more countries are becoming cautious about the U.S. governments ability to levy sanctions and forfeit assets against a particular country for their own internal political battles. Should you have USD and your country becomes barred from doing business with companies that the U.S. government has jurisdiction over, your currency loses a fair bit of value. The alternative isn't Yuan, it would be a decentralized asset. Some countries are turning to gold but IMO bitcoin would solve a lot of the issues that currency reserves have.

Looking from the perspective of counties that turn to gold and not Bitcoin, you can't blame them. You don't expect a country to keep its reserve in relatively new technology. Gold has been around forever and it is trusted. It can be also volatile like Bitcoin, but it's usually for the short term. Gold is still the best currency.
1182  Economy / Exchanges / Re: No impact of SEC freezing USA Binance assets on: June 27, 2023, 04:57:34 PM
It actually had an effect but not a significant one.
Binance is not Bitcoin. If Binance should crash today Bitcoin will still be alive. Binance is just another operator in the market, but a very big player.
That aside, I believe if the assets were actually frozen, it would have had a bigger effect on Bitcoin.
Binance argued that if their assets are frozen it would mean passing a sentence before the court even passes a judgment because freezing of their asset would mean they won't have any money to run their business while the case is in court.

I get that SEC is just doing its job, but this all looks like a coordinated attack at this point.
1183  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Who Buys Bitcoin When The Price is 100k$? on: June 27, 2023, 10:19:38 AM
Bitcoin getting to 100k is even more advertisement for itself. People will think if it can get to 100k then it can get higher. People will always buy because people including myself will believe it will always rise.
When Bitcoin gets to 100k, it won't just stop at 100k, even if somehow it doesn't go higher than that. It can fluctuate between 80k and 90k and that is exactly what is going on today. Bitcoin has been fluctuating between 28k to 30k recently. That is what Bitcoin needs, stability. When Bitcoin is stable it will encourage a lot of people to adopt it and it will be easier to use as a currency and means of payment.
1184  Economy / Economics / Re: Has everyone become too pesimistic about the economy? on: June 27, 2023, 09:43:43 AM
I never been become pessimistic about the economy since  I never depend on the government for my living.  I am a believer that whatever is happening in the surrounding, it is our own selves that can help our situation.  So if I felt pessimistic then it will be over for me.  To face the hard life ahead one must be motivated and optimistic about the future.  That will give us strength to go forward and at the same time put a smile in our lips.

No matter what you do, no matter where you make your money comes from, and no matter how rich you are, the things happening in an economy affects you. You don't have to be dependent on the government before you get affected.
Being optimistic about your future is different from being optimistic about the economy. The economy is bad doesn't mean you won't flourish. People are still leveling up despite the failing economy.

Inflation affects everybody, and the devaluation of currency affects everybody. You can't escape it. If housing fees and electricity bills keep increasing you don't have to depend on the government for it to affect you.
1185  Economy / Economics / Re: Has everyone become too pesimistic about the economy? on: June 26, 2023, 10:09:08 PM
I get the idea but, it's hard not to be pessimistic about everything happening.
The inflation rate keeps increasing, unemployment rates, cost of living, insecurities, violence, and every other negative thing happening in the world. Looking at how things are especially in developing countries there seems to be no light at the end of the tunnel. I don't believe there would be a world war or European war but I just don't see things getting better than they used to be or it better than it is now.
1186  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: ⚽ Football Transfers Speculation, Odds and Predictions on: June 25, 2023, 04:10:55 PM
For Bayern this indicates that they have given up on targeting Rice and are looking for new options and when I saw De Jong's name I wasn't really surprised because last season the rumors were still the same.
I don't really know the condition of Barcelona's arrears to De Jong now because if you look at the previous mirror he didn't want to leave because Barcelona still has arrears on de Jong's wages that haven't been paid but now I don't see any news about this.
On the other hand, De Jong's best friend is still at Bayern, so this could also be of added value now if Barcelona's arrears end and Bayern want to leave.
But as you said, this is unlikely because it looks like De Jong is back to being comfortable with his position at Barcelona at the moment.

Bayern will not be signing Frenkie De Jong. Frenkie won't be leaving Barcelona this season. Worst of all for 50 million. He wasn't sold for 80 million, so how can they sell him for less when his value has not dropped?
The reason De Jong did not leave Barcelona last summer was not because of his wages that have not been paid. He did want to leave because he wants to remain in Barcelona. He enjoys living and playing in Barcelona.

Barcelona wanted to sell De Joong last season because they needed the money and because they wanted to try and sign Bernado Silva, but this season it's different. Barcelona has lost Busquets and in their squad right now only De Jong can play as a DM, plus De Jong was very good last season.
1187  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Do you think it's still wrong selling properties for Bitcoin? on: June 25, 2023, 03:38:40 PM
I can not sell my land or property to buy bitcoin. It will make me look like I am risking too much and which could affect me. My property remain my property and the land will continue to increase in value too. This is what I will think and I will not sell my land. Sometimes it is not about the profit, but diversification.

I respect your opinion of not selling your land to buy Bitcoin. But this is different is OP has an abundance of land from what he said. It was a good form for him to sell a portion of his land to invest in Bitcoin. Things could go south we know but isn't that what an investment is? He invested what he can afford to lose.
You talked about diversification. Selling a part of his land to invest in something is diversification. Now he has assets in land and Bitcoin.
1188  Other / Off-topic / Re: You most not make a mistake to know things you don't know on: June 24, 2023, 10:31:31 PM
Whatever you want to achieve is by the will of almighty not by your consistent practice or learning even your mistake.

I agree that it's not a must to make a mistake to learn something, or while learning something. They say experience is the best teacher, true, but experience is not the only teacher.

I will have to disagree with you on the quoted part.
So you're saying if I want to achieve something and I work consistently and diligently to achieve that thing I won't get it because it's not the will of the "almighty"? C'mon! That sound like a whole load of bullshit. Saying that already contradicts the part where you said "What we need is concentration and a proper information to achieve what we want."

You've got to take your life into your own hands. You can achieve whatever you set out to achieve. That you failed in a certain area doesn't mean it's not God's will for you to achieve it, it means something went wrong, or you didn't do something right. In fact, it's not even God's will for you to fail. God doesn't have a laid-out plan for anybody. You've got to forge your own way. God didn't make some people poor and some people rich.

A lot of people stay poor because they are waiting for God's will in their life or God's time. Well brother, you gon keep waiting because God is not coming specifically to help you. You've got to do that for yourself. And there's nothing like God's time, whenever you want something, that is God's time.
1189  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Submarine missing ^Titanic disaster 2023 on: June 24, 2023, 10:10:39 PM
I have asked this question before, the important of seeing wreck of titanic, does it have any advantages to the group of people who lost their live because of wreckage of titanic. If it's only seeing the wreck of Titanic we have seen it severally on a movie I don't know why we should waste such amount of money for hiring such submarine that take their lives

It's called Adventures. As silly as it might sound to you, it's what they want and enjoy. If people had a way to take a spaceship and head to the moo for a vacation they would. People said around the world in those days and discovered places. Whatever their reason for wanting to see the Titanic wreckage is their business. That is why I am indifferent about their death. I know it may be an insensitive thing to say but that's just how I feel. People die all the time from doing what can actually save lives.
These guys are a bunch of billionaires that are just looking for some fun, so if the fun didn't turn out great no one is to be blamed or held responsible for that.

I also love going on adventures for fun, so if one day in the future I decide to take a fun trip to the moon (don't know how possible that would be in the near future) and things go south, it's on me.
1190  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Introducing Altcoin (ATC), Ethereum's alternative to Bitcoin on: June 24, 2023, 09:49:25 PM
From the name of the coin to calling it the new Bitcoin, it seems like you didn't put so much effort into it. I'm not trying to diminish your hopes or discourage you but this is poorly done.
Why name an altcoin "Altcoin". I would like to know the inspiration behind it. It's like naming a school a "school"
I went through the website and it didn't look like anything special. It's just the same stuff we've been seeing all the time with different projects.
1191  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: La Liga (Spanish League) Prediction Thread 2022/23 on: June 24, 2023, 01:19:39 PM
Gundogan has perfect skills to replace Busquet and he will help Barcelona midfield with his skills and experience with tiki-taka philosophy. He will help Barcelona to have more ideas in attacking and he can score goals too. Pedri and Gavi will learn a lot from Gundogan even he might only play a few seasons with Gundogan.

Gundugan was not bought to replace Busquest. He is a central midfielder that can play as a central attacking midfielder.
Guadiola has used him to play as a DM before but it didn't work out quite well. If you remember in the champions league final against Chelsea, Gundugan player the DM na they lost. Gundugan will be a very big asset to Barcelona because he's exactly what Barca needs in midfield. He's got experience, skill and he can score. He's also a good dribbler.
Despite how good Gundugan is, he's skill sets will be wasted if he is played in the DM role. Gundugan enjoys been up the pitch, but he can also play just in front of the defensive midfielder and provide support and security to the DM.
1192  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: ⚽ Football Transfers Speculation, Odds and Predictions on: June 23, 2023, 11:55:51 PM
Arsenal leaded the race for a long time for Declan Rice but now Man City just swooped in and made things complicated. West Ham now can ask for more cash and i think they will do that. Maybe Man City is just messing with Arsenal but now the player can go either way and if i was Rice i would go to City and win trophies

Going to City to win trophies is not all there is to football. It's not that simple. Manchester City has Rodri who is the best DM in the world right now and he's not old and is not slowing down anytime soon. Only Kimmich can be compared to Rodri right now in terms of the best defensive midfielders, and even Kimmich is not a single-pivot midfielder.
Rice can go to City but it's a certainty that he would be a bench player. I don't care how good he is, he's not benching Rodri, not while Pep is the coach, and while Pep is the coach. A double-pivot midfield with two natural single pivot is not ideal.
In Arsenal, Rice would be an undisputed starter and will develop into whatever he wants, He's still young and can always leave Arsenal for another team in the future.
1193  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Privacy Is a Human Right in the 21st Century on: June 23, 2023, 11:43:56 PM
Some governments do not respect the privacy of their citizens and they see no reason to preserve that privacy. But not all government is the same, there are many other countries in the world where privacy is largely respected although maybe not so many countries. In a government with a leader that largely respects human rights, there will be respect for privacy which is part of human rights. In government where the leader of that government has little or no regards for rights of common citizens, privacy will be greatly encroached.

In my country, the government have no regard for human right and therefore have no regard for privacy whatsoever.
It has gotten so bad that the awareness of privacy is alien to a lot of people. A lot of people don't understand that privacy is a right and not a privilege the government gives. The government doesn't openly say it that they don't care about the privacy of its citizens, but it's clear by the way they operate.
Companies that want to be in good graces with the government won't even hesitate to give your information to the government, even without a court order, warrant or something.
1194  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Having no money to invest in Bitcoin is even better on: June 23, 2023, 11:16:34 PM
I think it's a personal thing. I believe so because people with a lot of money still take the time to understand the business before going into it. Not everybody hurries into it. People who hurry into investment are people who are more likely to run into scam investments and Ponzi. They just want to get rich quickly out of the scheme, and Bitcoin is not that.

While you have stated an advantage of not having money to invest in this context, there's also a disadvantage.
If you didn't have money to buy Bitcoin when it was 10k dollars in 2017, how will you feel when it was 65k dollars in 2021? There's this feeling you'll feel like you missed out on an opportunity just because you didn't have money to invest.
1195  Economy / Economics / Re: Economic problem, why is fiat difficult to hold. on: June 23, 2023, 11:45:21 AM
Inflation is eating deep into everything, increasing the cost of living. It's very difficult to have money and that money is enough for what you have in mind because the price of everything is now increasing.
It's very difficult to have money and not spend it on things that will give you comfort or spend it on things in general. When there is money you always want to solve your problem. Funny enough, the problems are never finished. So it turns out there is always a problem to solve when there is money.

Saving money requires a lot of discipline. If you can't keep it yourself, you should keep it in an account where you won't be able to use it for the time period. Usually, those savings should be for the short term because with the high rate of inflation, saving in fiat money for a long time only ends in a loss because inflation will eat that into that savings too.
1196  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: La Liga (Spanish League) Prediction Thread 2022/23 on: June 22, 2023, 08:49:31 PM
Gundogan is going to join Barcelona but still, but nothing is clear and there is still a chance for Gundogan to join another team even if he signs the contract with Barcelona.
Because if Barcelona fails to register the contract of this player because of the financial issues he can join another team.

Do you really believe Barca will sign a player and not be able to register him? I see all these news update all the time and it's funny at this point. Last summer some sports newspapers like The Athletic really believe Barca will go bankrupt. How can people be that naive?
Barca registered all the players they got last despite all that the media reported, and now they have started reporting this summer again. They didn't sign Messi partly because they would not have been able to register him.
Barcelona will register all their players, every other thing they are doing is just a precaution.
1197  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: French Soccer League Predictions and Discussion Thread (Ligue 1) on: June 22, 2023, 08:33:07 PM
Do you mean to win french league again? Mbappe has been signed for something bigger than it to win UCL. Losing mbappe as free agent is a big loss for PSG. You can remember that if PSG paid a lot of money for him.
It's not even worthy of PSG paid almost 1/5 from 1 billion to win only french league. The price that already got from winning french league was smaller compared with money used to buy mbappe.
Im thinking about PSG must try to make him leave from the club by selling it. It will help PSG so much to recover some funds used to bought him.

There's this thing people do that is always funny and that is belittling league titles. You guys make it seem like the league is so insignificant. Especially leagues that are not the premier league.
So because Mbappe could not win the champions league with PSG does that make him a failure at PSG?
Mbappe was signed for about 180 million. Are you saying the French league titles he has won with PSG are not worth more than PSG? Are you saying if PSG as a club know knew that this is how Mbappe would perform for PSG before they signed him they wouldn't have signed him?
What do you mean by "only French league"? It took Pep 8 years or so to win the champions league with Man City. So if PSG hasn't won it doesn't mean they have been a colossal failure.

I'm, not a fan of PSG and the way they do business but signing Mbappe was the right move. The mistake they made is they would have sold him last summer. Now, I don't see a need in selling him again. It's just better if he plays one last season and leaves for free. The extra season gives them a lot of time to build their squad and get replacements so he won't be missed much when he leaves.

1198  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: The truth about investment (bitcoins) on: June 22, 2023, 01:54:35 PM
Recently, our main focus has been on capitalizing on the volatility of Bitcoin, rather than recognizing its original purpose. Admittedly, we have viewed Bitcoin primarily as an investment opportunity. Although it remains uncertain who will ultimately benefit from this approach, many individuals have indeed profited significantly from Bitcoin, contributing to its status as the most renowned cryptocurrency worldwide.

I agree that the original role of Bitcoin is for it to be a means of payment. But that doesn't mean it can't also be an investment. Nothing stops Bitcoin from being a currency and investment at the same time.
Fiat currency can be an investment but that doesn't take away its currency features.
Take for instance if I decide to change my local currency into a foreign currency and keep it in an account somewhere with the speculation that that country's currency will appreciate significantly over a period of time. That is an investment I have made and it has in no way made the currency any less a currency.
1199  Economy / Exchanges / Re: What could make an exchange to seize users assets on: June 22, 2023, 01:40:06 PM
But I still have my doubts. Why should an exchange reject a coin or frustrate it's flow knowing so well they will make money from the movement or trading of the coin?

It's not like the exchange really cares, but they're bound by regulations most times. They are on a thin line and any mistake they make regulatory bodies will be coming in hot. So they do things like this to take pressure off of them a bit.
I know a guy that Binance seized the coins in his account because he used his account to receive money that turned out to be gotten through fraud. They froze his account and reported him to the authorities.

By the way, isn't it illegal to take away someone's money without his permission?
All Coinbase have to say is that your coins triggered some secret algorithm which made them suspect theft, money laundering, darknet use, gambling (in some jurisdictions), or some other use your government dislikes, and not only does it become legal for them to seize your coins, but it becomes actively encouraged by your government.

Damn! It just keeps getting scarier.
But is there a way to prove that what they (coinbase) are saying is not true?
1200  Economy / Economics / Re: Are we headed to a nowhere economic direction ? on: June 20, 2023, 09:10:41 AM
The global economy is increasingly difficult to predict, inflation that is happening globally makes us worry, if we only rely on current income then next month or next year we will experience difficulties, before bad things happen we have to be creative by utilizing all the potential that can become money .

Inflation is a very big problem that the world is facing currently. Somehow I feel it's worst in my country. Right now the inflation rate is above 30%. The worst part is, I don't see an improvement anytime soon.
The interest rate was increased last month from 18% to 18.50%. The increased interest rate just seems to make matters worst.
Higher interest rates are supposed to mean higher borrowing costs, which will make people spend less and thereby reduce inflation, but the reverse is the case in my country.
And knowing my country, the inflation rate will just keep increasing and the dullards at the central bank will just keep increasing interest rates without stopping to check if there are other things they can do to fight inflation.
It's frustrating and scary at the same time when you think about the fact that it can only get worst.
