Yeah, I had a feeling you guys would be passionately in love with my post But the question remains: When BFL first announced that they were coming out with their FPGA miners did they also have to take all this heat? They didn't have to take heat, they chose to by being dishonest. BFL lied about their timetable for delivery of FPGA mining gear and they also lied about power consumption of that gear, just as they've done with ASIC mining gear. They're deceitful at every opportunity, because it's how they roll.

I'm very very new at all this so if this post seems a bit naive then yes.....guilty as charged. No offense intended, but you were spot on here...then you just trailed off. BFL reps lie constantly about everything, THAT'S the problem, not that new technology is risky or that there are delays. Back in October of 2012 Josh was endlessly spouting off about how this delay or that delay wouldn't be a problem because of all the "extra padding" built into their "worst case scenario". Guess how all that turned out? It's like this at every turn...everything BFL related takes 10x as long as what they say and different reps cite different delivery schedules. They're a total mess, unable even to keep their lies straight.

I still have them as pretty close, with a slight edge to BTC mining according to allchains & coinotron, but with merged mining BTC is indeed a better play. I shifted a couple cards this morning and will shift the remainder this evening, when able. Trying to pay today's dividend, but can't log in, seems the site is being DDoS'd.

Walletbit have all your addresses, it was injected in checkout URL. If you open ticket at Walletbit support and ask to confirm address, they can do it. That what I did at Feb. 2. Trouble is addresses were being crossed from one account to another on Feb 2. I was completely unable to order that day because of all the problems. I only had a couple hours and it proved to be insufficient. I just hope they had the addresses right by Feb 3 when I actually got an order through, but since walletbit's confirmation does not include shipping information and Avalon will not answer tickets, emails, or PMs I can't be sure.

Is anyone else's asic order still not showing up in the store page? I ordered on the first batch2 date and have contacted avalon and walletbit with no response... Join the club, you're not alone. Three months after ordering I've never received a response to a support ignore ticket and have no idea if they're shipping to the correct address as nothing b2 shows on my account page for my feb 3 order. I've no choice but hope and pray they send the expensive hardware to the correct location. Walletbit did eventually respond and acknowledged receipt of payment, though there's no confirmation of shipping address for my guest payment, perhaps you should harass them(walletbit).MB I would be more concerned about Walletbit confirmation. Have you opened a ticket on their helpdesk? They were remarkably quick when I asked them for the confirmation note, took about 2 hours. I gave them TID and email. I did that, long long ago. Walletbit did get back to me and confirm payment, but as I paid as guest there's no confirmation of shipping address anywhere and Avalon support tickets have all gone unanswered. Avalon could dismiss any unease in seconds by simply confirming a shipping address, but they're not so great at this whole CS thing as we're all no doubt aware by now. To be clear I still think Avalon is head and shoulders above that other dedicated ASIC hardware vendor...who shall remain nameless, just wish they'd hire some CS reps as it would alleviate a lot of unease for all involved. Also, while I appreciate them(Avalon) trying to spread the love around and give a little known payment processor some exposure, there's no denying that walletbit completely bent the pooch over on Feb 2 & 3. I still have no record of my batch 2 order at Avalon store because they(walletbit) were completely unable to deal with the traffic they had to know was coming. Still confident I'll see my company's hardware soon despite the delays and payment processing snafu.

They have already shipped to roughly a dozen paying customers. Already? You mean the people that ordered in June of 2012? Those things were supposed to be delivered in October of last year...and again they were supposed to consume 1w/Gh, but they instead consume over 5x that amount of power, which means they'll not remain profitable nearly as long.

My mining company(see sig) has both an early batch 2 and batch 3 Avalon on order. Also we have 8 GPUs mining LTCs at present.

Hey guys, could someone please explain the history and current status of BFL, I want to get caught up on those events and I got here late. Could you also explain what it might be like if I ordered one of their products, they look so tempting! Thanks so much I love you guys! -Jet BFL's history is simple. They over promise and under deliver at every step. They constantly lie about shipping dates and specs while channeling resources into advertising to continuously generate funds for pre-ordered products that they also cannot deliver in a timely fashion. They're in blatant violation of FTC prompt delivery regulations and ignoring FCC regulations regarding emissions and their CEO is a convicted thief that should not be trusted with bus fare. Most of the whopping 35 5Gh units they've finally shipped after months of lies about shipping dates have been sent to media, devs, and early paypal customers that eBay has been(rightly) hassling BFL about failing to deliver. Do not order from them, you'll be lucky to break even if you receive anything at all. If you still insist on ordering from them order their 5Gh model as it's the only one they've even demonstrated to have functional at all nearly a year after beginning to collect pre-order money for their SC line. Even this product bears little resemblance to the product originally pre-ordered in June of 2012. The price has nearly doubled and the power consumption has increased 5 fold.

so in essence the butterfly labs machines will be obselete by the end of this year when they actually ship? Or is there going to be a time where no one will be building machines till the end of the year and everyone will be in the same boat?
it all depends on the competition landscape.. and there appears to be no real contenders.. which works to BFL's advantage, of course. Surely you jest. ASICMiner has nearly 21TH online RIGHT NOW and has ALSO shipped 3x as much hardware(in GH terms) as BFL(a dedicated hardware producer). Avalon has shipped over 100x the hashing power BFL has despite beginning development of their product months later. BFL is the drunk + stoned + handicapped turtle in this race and they're getting their clocks cleaned royal like. Get a refund or suffer the consequences.

Sure, but once you got your first million you want more. Dont judge them. Also, our ROI will be in the worst case something about 1year(talking about batch 3, batch 2 has no reason to cry at all). The idea that batch 2 was cheap is not correct. Early batch 2 orders(2/2 - 2/3) paid the same for their purchases as batch 3 orders did. The rapidly rising exchange rate would've had little effect on batch 2 pricing if a competent payment processor had been employed, but that wasn't the case. As a result later batch 2 orders got a 33%+ discount. Early batch 2 customers have every right to complain about these delays.

We all should meanwhile know that all three companies can provide products, but lets look into the details. CAN provide products...yes. However, one of these companies started ahead of the other two, sold more pre-orders than the other two, and has delivered less than either of the others, particularly if you appropriately discount units sent to devs and media and not proper investors. That's the company that's the stinker of the group. There's no way around this...regardless of how you rate their PR kung-fu. Spewing bs is no substitute for delivering results.

How could "Delivery reliability" and "Public Relations" possibly be of equal import?!? Makes no sense.
If I pay for a product or service and don't receive it on schedule, how long is PR(bs) an acceptable substitute?

Hot off the presses from Avalon:Bitcoin will change your life. online version • update profile • unsubscribe Avalon ASIC ASICs on time; Business done right. Dear creativex@broadstripe.net, Lots things to update. 1. We are currently investigating on the three or so shipments that have shown up badly damaged to the customers. They do no appear to be simple delivery damage: they are not dents but some corners of some of the units have been snapped off. It takes a great amount of force to snap 3mm aluminum that's been bolted down with 0.9mm screws in a box with foam padding. We are not ruling out the possibility of sabotage. In future, when receiving an Avalon package, if there is any rattling sound coming from inside, open the package in front of DHL/EMS and inspect the inside, if there is damage immediately return the package to the sender. The receiver must submit the complaint so us, the shipper can receive this information from DHL/EMS and we can investigate. Do not worry, even if DHL/EMS does not compensate for the damages, once you send the damaged unit back, we will send you a replacement free of charge. 2. Our new SMT equipment has arrived, it is expected to be tweaked and fully functional by the second week of May. Expect an updated gallery of our facility soon. In the mean time we are going to send out ~20 units through our new shipping channels and test the waters. We expect to go full throttle once the new SMT line comes online. 3. We also recently released a new firmware that is our most stabled version yet, it also increases the performance by about 2Gh/s and lowers idle power consumption, see the wiki for full details. https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Avalon#20130419 p.s. few people in the Avalon team is sick, so we are moving rather slow at the moment.
