Crackfoo,

Did you remove scrypt from Hashtap? I can't select it anymore for new taps, though the one I have keeps going and another one changed to sha256t.

Thanks - psycodad
1182  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [SBC] [SCRYPT] StableCoin The Story Continues! Join Our Community Coin Project on: March 13, 2017, 02:17:11 PM
I'll try to move the chain once a day and hope the multipools come back when the diff is low enough.

HTH

P.S.: Novaexchange works fine for SBC, I stopped using Cryptopia whenever possible as too many wallets there are not connected or in maintenance.

Question from a Byteball-newb: What files do I backup to be able to restore the wallet on another computer (i.e. 'wallet.dat' in other coins) ?

I've noticed the fedoracoin.xyz domain (web and one of the explorers) is down, so the windows wallet is not available anymore.

Also obviously cryptoid BE has expired too, so currently there is no block explorer running.

Does anybody have an original copy of the windows wallet from fedoracoin.xyz?

Why VTA is delisted from C-CEX Shocked Shocked Shocked Shocked Shocked i lost 39200000 coin

They say "Blockchain broken.".

I guess it has to do with the insanely low 8 block to maturity. At 60s blocktime this just asks for unintentional doublespends when short forks happen.

Looking for new exchange to add.
I've sent a mail to Bitmex because i'm interested in interface that exchange.
Do you have any more suggestions?
Here you can find an exchange list : https://exchangewar.info/

I'd still vote for Novaexchange, seems like it is growing steadily.

P.S.: Thank you for 4.7, some nice additions and improvements!
1190  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: $BTA | BATA | Barter via Blockchain. New POW / POS Hybrid in development. on: February 11, 2017, 06:23:24 PM
Let me first say, that I have been very impressed by your decision in 2015 to relaunch BTA when you found out there was an unfair instamine by one miner. Since then you have been a really responsible, community-focussed and upright honest dev. That's, especially here in the bct swamps, seldom enough and highly appreciated!

The information about new developments and directions for BTA in the last days so far have been mildly confusing to say the least. I have currently no more idea what bartering, entangled coins, DAO, drug discovery and PQC will have to do with the future BTA and where that ship is sailing to currently.

The last days I tried hard to do my own research on EntangleIT, Richard Hein, PQC and some of the marketing buzzwords that appeared here. I am not the wiser. Even so my lousy english and my limited intellectual resources as simple plumber joe may be keeping me from seeing that big picture, I suspect many other long term fans of BTA feel the same level of confusion.

I am just trying to make sure, you see where my seemingly stupid questions are coming from.

Please allow me some questions so I can get hopefully a better understanding what this current hype is (rather was) about and if I want to further stay onboard this ship:

  • What has quantum computing to do with all this?
  • You quoted Richard Hein saying "BTA is now Entangled with Bitcoin - Believe it or Not", you left it standing alone as if it was speaking for itself. Can you explain what this entanglement means in practice (please consider explaining it like to little children so that I really get it)
  • Can you or Richard Hein explain what advancements the Blockchain brought or will bring to drug discovery? I just struggle to make that link.
  • Can we get some more details about what "auditing and healing" blockchains means in practice or simply how the linking/entangling with Bitcoin or nthcoin will benefit BTA technically or economically?
  • What is that splitting into 12 coins about? (Again, please consider the childish and intellectually challenged among us when explaining)

Thanks in advance for your time and no matter if I end up getting a clue or not, I wish you success.

These are all good questions, thanks for asking them!

And let me just add that, throughout my history of following BTA on this thread, the dev (pc888) has been consistently communicative, to a level that gave me the confidence to buy more than a year ago and hold until that crazy pump (still holding some, though).  So any cries of scam seem unwarranted, at least based on the fact that he has been and continues to be here on this forum consistently.

Thanks for the questions.

I will explain as best I can without saying what I have been asked to keep to myself.

1/ The quantum computer part allows for all the automation etc - EntangleIT ( researched from 2000 ).  Richard runs EntangleIT.
2/ You will need to address that question to Richard.
3/ The advancements will be a blockchains enabled by quantum computing for various duties.
4/ BTA is to be used for the very reason it was created - for a Barter Dollar.
5/ NthCoin questions are for Richard - (I don't want to put words in his mouth)
6/ No coins are to be Split every coin - 12 coins will be part of the ecosystem ( Bata was one selected already by EntangleIT)

So FUD no more, research the details.

As I stated earlier I am bound by what I can and cannot say.

I am very sorry if my honest questions came over as spreading FUD, I do take offense from your statement to a certain degree as I supported this project by mining since the very first day. And you seem to keep honest questions for FUD while all the factless shilling going here obviously doesn't bother you much.

I have made my research before I asked and from that little research I concluded that the below excerpt represents roughly what the recognized experts in this field think:
Quote
Among corporate users of cryptography the most commonly cited prediction coming from research leaders in quantum computing is that, based on progress toward scalable fault-tolerant quantum computing, there’s a 50%-50% chance that a practical quantum computer will be available in 15 years. This prediction is presumably at the low end of possible timeframes, since people who work in the area would have an interest in erring on the side of optimism.
from: https://eprint.iacr.org/2015/1018.pdf

From my understanding when a quantum computer is available it allows integer factorization in a much much faster way, rendering all ECC based signing algos insecure by easily deriving the private key from the public key. As I get it, Bitcoin is doomed if you have a quantum computer.

In a blogpost from 2015 Bruce Schneier says:
Quote
Before you panic, note that the largest number to date that has been factored by a quantum computer is 143. So while a practical quantum computer is still science fiction, it's not stupid science fiction.

So I have to conclude you have very very big things in your hands and I completely understand that you will not spill all the beans just because I asked. After all this futuristic quantum computing stuff is a multi-billion dollar thing, though I would have avoided to be as noisy about it as you were. If you sit on knowledge on making a quantum computer within the next 5 years some 3-letter agencies will probably make you guys "job offers you just can't decline".

I did my research before I posted and came up with questions which, given the nature and high level profile of your undertakings, understandably can't be replied in a satisfying way without giving away the recipe for the secret sauce. So I will refrain from asking more stupid questions and will impatiently wait to see quantum computing benefitting BTA and making us hodlers all Lambo owners on the way.

Wanted to give it a try, deposited 0.01 BTC but I seem unable to find out how to rent scrypt miners, scrypt is not under the algo list though it is listed with a hash tap price on the right.

I haven't been able to test scrypt yet so it hasn't been enabled but I think it will be problematic like SHA256 is since there are so many merged coins, it causes instability.

I'll try and get a list posted to the site which shows which algos are actually enabled. The HashTap price unfortunately shows on all algos even if I don't have it enabled.

I tested scrypt for a while today and it seemed pretty good. I've allowed creating new taps for scrypt but will be keeping an eye on it.

Thanks for your quick reaction, will give it another whirl later this week.

In the GUI wallet (Mac) I'm getting quite a few failed mint by stake transactions. Generated but not accepted. Any idea why?

Thanks.

Orphans happen from time to time, no matter if mining or staking. Check your transactions, I am quite sure these have been orphaned.

The chinese L3 and A4 that are super noisy where will you put them ? tell me where ? your wife will kick you out the same day

Alternative facts?
People that actually have a L3 say something different:
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1734098.msg17561765#msg17561765

And with 5-10$ you can make an A2 or A4 as silent as a purring cat. You need a soldering iron though, but when you run a Titan you probably already have one.

jacobmayes94 the price of a titan set is still $3500 because it's a home miner and it is made in Europe.
You are comparing the Ferrari of the miners with the Fiat (chinese garbage)

For what you sell your Titans is your business no need to justify your price, but honestly I couldn't stop rolling on the floor laughing when I read about "made in Europe and Chinese garbage" - seriously, I mean really?
The Titan is certainly a nice miner for the time when it came out, but it is lousy designed and poorly build from controller to cube to spell it politely. Designed by swedish ignorants that think they are not bound to Ohms law.

Oh wait, you named it already: European quality. Reminds me of the fire extinguisher "made in Britain" in the TV series IT crowd.

Good luck with your sale anyway, just sell it at good price but stop claiming everything else is garbage.

恭喜发财!

Will definitly give it a try, you know, i am not impressed by appealing GUIs, i feel conftable in cli interfaces, so the appearances doesn't matter for me as long as i know where i am, and what i am doing.
You are right regarding iptables, it is a big mess, tricky, hard to understand, i will have a look at pf.
For sure you can't have ervery thing in one OS, devs can't create the perfect OS, you have to do some sacrifies to get benefitso n other parts of the system, the thing with ubuntu is that it is easy to use, easy to understand, can easily find solutions on internet, BSD looks like to be more professional then ubuntu, yet i i think it is more made for internet then compiling/coding.

I haven't tried to build any coind under OpenBSD yet (but will try to soon), I expect it to be pretty hairy compared to building on an Ubuntu or Debian.

Though I wouldn't say OpenBSD or BSD is not for developers or compiling/coding. For example building the complete OpenBSD (kernel and userland) from source is a very straightforward process.

Hope your OpenBSD tryout will be as refreshing and surprising as it was for me back in 1999.
1198  Other / Off-topic / Re: Favorite OS and reasons on: February 02, 2017, 12:48:39 PM
The BSD family (OpenBSD, FreeBSD etc.) is missing from your list.

I prefer OpenBSD and Debian, I try to avoid Ubuntu and all Redhat based distros since Redhat decided to cripple openssl in them. Though the switch to systemd makes me enjoy more and more OpenBSD installations over Debian.

I've never used Mac and my last Windows WS was Win2000.

Thank you for pointing to the BSD family, i forgot to add it, i am also thinking about adding solaris, but i don't think that much people uses it.

I never used OpenBSD, could you tell me what advantages it have over linux/debian ?

OpenBSD comes with a secure-by-default setup and it is lightweight. Though, if you did not already setup linux at the time when you had to partition your disk yourself and configure your network manually you might find it very painful to get started with OpenBSD (but there is excellent guidance out there [1, 2] and the effort pays out if you want a highly secure and stable platform!).

The setup/install has been simplified a lot since I started with version 2.6 sometimes 1999 but it is still not "insert disk and click OK three times to accept some defaults"

On the plus side:
  • High quality man pages (Linux improved there in the last years, but so many man pages in Linux are still just useless and I have yet to find a bad one in OpenBSD).
  • Most system components are audited and fixed by highly capable people in the OpenBSD team.
  • Integrated firewall (pf) that I would argue is the best open source packet filter out there and compared to the huge mess that iptables ruleset are it is almost natural to read the rules.
  • OpenBSD is the home of OpenSSH and comes with strong and robust crypto
  • OpenBSD team is strictly commited to Open Source principles, they never accept borked license agreements, things that do not comply with their BSD license are kicked out.
  • OpenBSD team boasts about "Only two remote holes in the default install, in a heck of a long time!". This is impressing compared to every other OS.

Personally I'd recommend OpenBSD for servers or workstations that need that extra bit of security and confidence meaning you are ready to go an extra mile (or two, sometimes three Cheesy ) to get the job done and you value security and stability over performance and bleeding edge features. But then you can lean back and just let it hum along. The OS might look ancient because it lacks a lot of features, but then again everything that's in OpenBSD has been done right from the beginning.

I'd say OpenBSD is the most secure OS in the world. But like with the most secure car for example, you should not expect it to be the fastest or the most beautiful car. If you have an old pc or can launch a VM with 256MB RAM and 4G disk I'd recommend to give it a try. It's not just a different linux distro - it's BSD and it can be fun.
