11801  Economy / Collectibles / Re: [INTEREST CHECK] - Autographs for the Encyclopedia of Physical Bitcoins on: May 31, 2016, 01:10:43 PM
I think there are around 60 makers in the book. I'm hoping for around 15 to participate.
So $150 to get 15 labels? I could almost buy another book! Cheesy It seems a bit too much.
11802  Local / Hrvatski (Croatian) / Re: AntMiner S9 14 TH/s on: May 31, 2016, 12:59:56 PM
Pa nije lose ali moras gledati na vise stvari:
1) Zasigurno vec postoje mineri koju ovo imaju.
2) Moraš održati ovakvu zaradu na više mjeseci.

2. podrazumijeva da se difficulti nece povisiti ~4 mjeseca. Da li se slazes s time?
11803  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Should there be public awareness campaigns to warn new users about Ponzi schemes on: May 31, 2016, 12:58:01 PM
Even though this would definitely be beneficial, it would not come close to completely 'preventing' losses. It really comes down to the individual; as an example, I've been here for three years now and have avoided scams completely and will continue to do so.

Let them earn from their own experiences.
In other words: Let scammers get money and continue their practice on each wave of new victims?

Absolutely, I think there should be awareness campaigns which will warn newbies and will save their coins at initial stage, if they get cheated in beginning then they will start taking bitcoin negatively.
Maybe adding a Warning within the investor-based games section would be a decent start, but that is a discussion for Meta.
11804  Other / Meta / Re: Moderator Report Viewing on: May 31, 2016, 12:24:53 PM
When I've originally viewed the title I had something else in mind than:

Allowing me to view how many of my posts have been reported.
This doesn't matter at all. Even if all of your posts get reported, that does not mean that a single one would be deleted. This is why I disagree with the idea. What matters more are the deleted posts which you already get informed about.

I was thinking more in the lines of being able to see which of your own reports are marked as bad. This would be very helpful to the people that are trying to contribute in this way.
11805  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bittorent Effect: How Bitcoin is Forcing Banks to Make Better Products on: May 31, 2016, 08:13:46 AM
Would banks even have an incentive to innovate?
The simple answer is no. Unlike competition which can be in various industries, these guys control the corrupt system together. Unfortunately the majority of the people are not even aware of it. These are nice (Bitcoin-related) documentaries  such as this one, that everyone should definitely watch. It gives you at least a little inside of the 'magic money making machine'. The main reason that these banks are focusing on the 'blockchain' (a private blockchain is nonsense) is to divert attention away from Bitcoin itself (as they could lose everything).

Step 1) Don't ask for advice from strangers online.
Step 2) Invest only what you can lose.
Step 3) Don't put everything in one basket if you want to be sure.

11809  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Kaspersky Labs: Bitcoin Involved in only 3% of All Online Scams on: May 30, 2016, 06:29:17 PM
Seems just a made up story without source link. I really doubt only 3% of online scam involving bitcoin atleast 10% or even more should be that number as bitcoin is anonymous and been choice of lots of scammers and hackers recently.
Your "at least 10%" is as credible as the "3%" (as far as concrete numbers go) in that other article. Please do not make up your own numbers based on zero research.

Where did the news come from?
The source is AntaraNews and I have no idea where they got their information from.
11810  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Mike Hearn on: May 30, 2016, 06:11:13 PM
This is what happens when you sell yourself to banks. The real question is who is the next person to ragequit and declare Bitcoin dead even though it keeps expanding.
11811  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Kaspersky Labs: Bitcoin Involved in only 3% of All Online Scams on: May 30, 2016, 04:49:20 PM
But I was told by the government that Bitcoin is the main currency being used in scams, drugs and terrorism? Roll Eyes The report is rather interesting and I do wonder how exactly they have conducted this research. Additionally:
Quote
It is rather surprising to see internet criminals target consumers in developing regions. Indonesia (26%), Vietnam (26%) and India (24%) see very high rates of customers reporting financial losses due to these scams
This doesn't surprise me at all. It is easier to fool (poor) people in 3rd world countries that are in desperate need of money. Anyone who spends a decent amount of time on this forum (reading) will be able to easily avoid almost every type of potential scam.

Update:
The news report claim they reported the news based on a Kaspersky report and they did not put a link to the source. Plus, there's nothing recent on Kaspersky site about Bitcoins:

https://blog.kaspersky.com/tag/bitcoin/
Indeed, that's why I'm interested in how exactly this was conducted (i.e. where can one get more details). It lists this website as a source; and I have no idea how credible they are.
11812  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: So cool - on: May 30, 2016, 01:26:50 PM
True! Blockchain technology posses a real threat to the banks nowadays.
-snip-

Unfortunately, bitcoin does not provides any security. So I don't think they will have to worry.
I disagree with the first statement. The blockchain technology, as banks like to define it, does not pose a threat. Blockchain based cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin are the threat. I also can't figure out what you meant with Bitcoin 'not providing any security'? Insurance?
11813  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: what would you think if blockchain collapse ? on: May 30, 2016, 10:39:32 AM
Bitcoin may be around for a while but will eventually come down in the future.
You can't know the future of Bitcoin. You could say that for practically anything.

"No internet anywhere" does not necessarily equate to "total catastrophe". Granted it might be difficult at first but if everything else is working, life should get back to normal fairly quickly, after all we've survived without internet for the past 10,000 years  Tongue
I was thinking more in the lines of an event required to 'kill' the internet around the globe. It would require something catastrophic. However, just imagine the panic if everything went dark in the same second.

We would just go back to good old paper money.
Paper money is the only reliable method after Bitcoin. Credit cards are not really reliable (e.g. I've just witnessed a traveler's CC failing at a shop and they had to return a few items due to not having enough cash). This can not be the case with Bitcoin (unless the merchant is using a 3rd party service and something is wrong with it).

-snip-
There's this great book that you should read.

11815  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: So cool - on: May 30, 2016, 07:58:02 AM
They have no idea what makes a blockchain work and why the Bitcoin blockchain is so successful. I've read the article from which you've attained that quote, and I'm not impressed. What makes them think that a privately run blockchain is incorruptible? The blockchain is nothing when it isn't decentralized and secured by various miners.

I personally think that both SegWit , halving block reward and the block size increase (next year) will make Bitcoin more popular and seen in a different way by those people .
No. That's not what happens. The quote is from ABN Amro which is a state-owned bank. Most of them will keep fighting Bitcoin until they're left with two options: 1) Go bankrupt. 2) Embrace Bitcoin.
11816  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: what would you think if blockchain collapse ? on: May 30, 2016, 07:50:18 AM
Also we can expect something completely new that can cast shadow on bitcoin and other coins..
Nonsense.

I think if blockchain will collapse it will be the end of bitcoin transactions.Because all bitcoin transactions is going under blockchain and being confirmed by blockchain. If blockchain will be down who will confirm our transfer? How can the users receive it without any confirmations from block chain.Thats what im thinking.
It's obvious that you're lacking the relevant knowledge. The blockchain can not simply "collapse" (the word is also very wrong).

The Bitcoin price climb, and the one post wonder shill posters increase. This is pure fud being posted to create confusion.. not to be taken seriously at all.
It doesn't surprise me anymore.

If by "blockchain collapse" you mean no internet anywhere then sure Bitcoin would be worthless because no one would be able to use it.
That's just one of the possible scenarios, but things like Bitcoin would not matter much in the times of total catastrophe.
11817  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Clearing the FUD around segwit on: May 29, 2016, 07:59:02 PM
Based upon the discussion that the Core Devs have been having in the IRC, a release containing segwit will be out before the halving. Whether it is deployed before the halving is up to the miners.
Any links to those IRC discussions? We are talking about a potential release within the next 6 weeks.

it will be a huge mess. popcorn time  Roll Eyes Grin Grin Grin
No, it will not. It has been in testing for quite a long time now.
11818  Economy / Collectibles / Re: [ANN] Genesis Series 2 now for sale!!!!! on: May 29, 2016, 07:43:02 PM
Yes, exactly.  Also since there are 500 coins made, but 28 of them are not boxed up (set of 7 for myself, 2 sets of 7 to be auctioned off, and a set of seven that could be won from the scratch offs), there is around a one winner per 6 boxes.
Okay, this seems quite interesting as a model even though I don't prefer it. I'll join up for a box with Mitchell.

You get send random coins, so you can get duplicates. That's the fun part! Grin
Now imagine opening your Box and finding the 5 same coins!
11819  Other / Meta / Re: Monero agenda trust abuse on: May 29, 2016, 04:16:27 PM
I would like not to accuse here but some high ranking forum members are doing this.
Without giving actual examples of said 'abuse', there's nothing to go on unless you think we should waste our own time looking for said examples. Unless you provide us with something, don't expect results.
11820  Economy / Collectibles / Re: [ANN] Genesis Series 2 now for sale!!!!! on: May 29, 2016, 01:02:43 PM
So in other words:
Quote
Each "pack" will consist of 1 Genesis Bitcoin sealed in a coin slab and will also be accompanied with a scratch off card.
If I buy a $80 box, I get 5 Random Genesis coins of random numbers and 5x scratch off cards?
