11801  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Have Banks conspired to Kill Bitcoin Startups? on: February 15, 2017, 05:43:49 AM
The thing is, bank will never admit to this. They will sit behind closed doors and find excuses for their actions to hide the real reasons that they are doing this. Just become a victim of a phishing scam and get your online banking credentials stolen and your accounts wiped, and you will see how these bankers operate. < You will be a victim for a second time >

Banks are quick to sign you up for loans and credit, but you seldom read the detail hidden in their contracts and when the shit hits the fan, you have signed away your rights. ^grrrrrrr^
11802  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Should we ReBrand Bitcoin? on: February 15, 2017, 05:35:25 AM
Whoops, if everyone is saying NO, I think I will swap hats and say Yes. Gosh, to motivate this answer I would think that a rebranding would give us a fresh start. Instead of Bitcoin, we might consider calling it SatCoin for instance to honor the creator of this technology. SatCoin goes better with Satoshis than Bitcoin with Satoshis. ^smile^

The negative side of this will be the complexity and financial disruption this might cause for people that designed their business around the name Bitcoin. < Example : Bitcointalk.org would need to change to SatCointalk.org >

To come to think of it, this might not be such a good idea, how do I change my vote. ^smile^
11803  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What is the plan to fix slow transactions and high fees? on: February 15, 2017, 05:17:19 AM
As a creative coffee shop owner, I would find ways to work around that, for instance : I will train my staff to educate people on signing up for a service like Xapo where the transactions are instant and basically free. My regulars will then have no problem paying for their daily coffee and I would help with adoption.

I will even give discount on people paying with Bitcoin. < 10% less per cup of coffee and first 10 cups free, if you signup for Xapo >

This is not the ideal solution but it is a option until they solve the scaling problems.
11804  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoins Everywhere? Not yet... on: February 15, 2017, 05:09:57 AM
A while ago, I would have said any sphere where cheap micro payment were used, but lately with the scaling problems and the spam attacks on the Blockchain increasing transaction fees, I think this is not applicable any more. SegWit and the Lightning network is not getting traction and that was supposed to solve the scaling problems.

Bitcoin will have to settle for a store of value and commodity trading to survive and this will not be sustainable when block rewards halving eliminates the block rewards over time. ^hmmmmmm^
11805  Economy / Economics / Re: Bitcoin is no longer a currency on: February 14, 2017, 06:41:26 AM
Centuries ago, people hammered rocks into circles with holes in them.

Like bitcoin's energy intensive cryptographic functions, these rocks were energy intensive to produce using primitive hand tools.

Why did people do this you ask? These circular rocks with holes in them were a form of currency.

If a donut rock can be currency, based on the idea that their energy intensiveness to produce can control inflation and prohibit counterfeiting.

I'm not certain bitcoin cannot also be a form of currency for similar reasons.

Some of these rocks was found at the bottom of the ocean, when they transported it between islands. So they stopped transporting it, and left it on islands where it was created and people apparently bought shares in these rocks and ledgers were held, on who owned what share in those stones. < very interesting >

Bitcoin must be one of the coolest currencies that have ever existed, because it has multi-function features. < It is a commodity, store of value, currency, used for smart contracts and the list goes on. >
11806  Economy / Gambling / Re: FreeBitco.in - Win free Bitcoins every hour! on: February 14, 2017, 06:23:52 AM
The site looks good but I've heard about it being a scam. Some people say they recieved payment (low one). And some guys who earned 0.01+ say they didn't recieve the payment. You can see the complaints right here: https://netbusinessrating.com/en/review-10532-freebitcoin. The OP doesn't have negative trust, the thread itself is quite big here, so can somebody tell me is it a scam or not? Thank you.
i never heard freebitco.in scam people since they are started from 2013. They are the longest and trusted for faucet site (for me), so i doubt if they ever did that (scam).
But, i have no idea how the pick the winner from their weekly lottery, and their House Edge (5%) is too high.
Okay, maybe you are right but why are people writing other thigs on the site to which I gave link previously? "freebitco.in is a Scammer page
The "provably fair" algorithm does not even exist!" and "Biggest Scam. They have stole my 0.01559201 BTC. May be they are paying regularly to small earner."?
Well, anyway, I've signed up here and I'll try playing.

Good luck! You have a chance to win $200 in BTC on their FREE ROLLS but I advise you against playing HI-LO game on thier site. It has huge house edge, 5%, and maybe that's why everyone, including me, loses in that game. Generally it's a great site though, I even won $2 in BTC with their free rolls once.

Allow me to put it in better terms: HI-LO and the Lottery have worse odds than a lot of state lottery games with proportionately lower payout and there is a very shady winner base..

Most state lotteries are being audited by independent organizations as a requirement and some of the earnings are going to sponsored charities and non-profit organizations. I have even seen some good movies being funded by state lotteries to develop talent that would have gone unnoticed.

What is this site doing with it's profits from their lottery? They have no audit requirements and are completely anonymous. Why?

We could be funding ISIS or some Pedo network, and we will not even know it. < For the crazies out there, I am not saying this site is affiliated with ISIS or Pedo's... what I am saying is, we do not know where the money is going, because this site is 100% anonymous.

I would rather use a state lottery with some "checks" in place, than dumping money into this. That said, I think they had some charity option before?
11807  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2017-02-14]OTC Bitcoin transactions spike in China as exchanges make regulatory on: February 14, 2017, 06:02:39 AM
If the PBOC is forcing the Chinese exchanges to adhere to KYC&AML type regulations, it would mean that <illegal> bitcoins will be flooding the market, as people will be dumping these coins for fiat. We are not seeing this. What we are seeing is the trades moving over to another platform and that is good news.

If the Chinese government wants to ban Bitcoin, they will be faced with new challenges, because people will just turn to Black markets to trade in Bitcoin, and they will have the opposite affect, than what they wanted to achieve.
11808  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: i make a torrent with bitcoin blockdata update to 2017-2-12 on: February 14, 2017, 05:52:37 AM
You offer the whole Blockchain to be downloaded from that torrent and not the pruned version? I guess that is one way of doing it, and once this is monetized you might make a few bucks. The other thing is, how many people will trust your source and would they need to verify it later.

Doing it through Electrum is quite fast.  Tongue

Time is Money!
11809  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: [Discussion] Bitcoin ETF on: February 14, 2017, 05:35:59 AM
ETF's wont cause much of a change to bitcoin at first.

for one.
most ETF had pre-bought the coins months/years before getting the green light from regulators.
also ETF are not trading bitcoins. they are trading shares in a company of X btc in trust. thus the price of a share is not directly impacting
bitcoin. because it does not result in any actual bitcoins being bought/sold.

there may be ETF events when they make announcements that they have added new 'baskets' (much like share dilution events) where the supply
of shares alters within the company. but this again is not about a change in bitcoins.

ETF will be more reactive to bitcoin prices so an ETF will follow the real bitcoin price rather than the other way around.

what positives i can see:
people will see an ETF and want to hold real bitcoin. so after playing with ETF or using ETF's for their official regulated pension funds. traders would separately then go and buy bitcoin for their personal holdings unofficially(outside their pension/investment contract)

mentions of the word bitcoin ETF would solidify bitcoin as a good asset. so again if its good for a ETF. people will then move off and buy bitcoin directly from proper bitcoin exchanges.

but i do not see the ETF price movements causing the real bitcoin prices to manoeuvre.. i see the bitcoin price movements manoeuvre ETF's

... just my opinion

I am very curious to know how many bitcoins were pre-bought for this, because the numbers that are being thrown around is in the Billions of $. Do you think the twins are using their own bitcoins or bitcoins that we bought be investors. If these bitcoins were pre-bought and the ETF fails, then we might see a dump, when the investors wants their money back?

So this might just have a negative side.
11810  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Segwit on Bitcoin has Failed , BTC Core has Lost , The Miners have Won on: February 14, 2017, 05:27:53 AM
with current settings about consensus, SegWit has (unfortunately?) no chance to come to life.
I feel like the devs should have somehow enforced this

Perhaps Blockstream never wanted SegWit adoption. That 95% activation level seems to have been designed to fail from the get-go.

Why would they spend all that money and time on this, if they intended this to fail? Nobody willingly enter into a work contract to work on a project that are aimed at failure. I think they underestimated the support they had, just like Gavin & Hearn did with Bitcoin XT.

The backdoor is always there for them to implement it with other technologies on other coins or Blockchain based technologies.
11811  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: We Have A Bitcoin City! Soon We Will Have Bitcoin Country! on: February 14, 2017, 05:22:01 AM
I do not know if a city with a estimated population of +/- 200 000 people would be sustainable to support continues Bitcoin use? I live in a much bigger city and the merchants already complain that they are not getting enough business for them to continue accepting Bitcoin as a payment option.

Arnhem is a tourist location, so I hope our fellow Bitcoiners will support this initiative on their next holiday. ^smile^
11812  Economy / Speculation / Re: PBOC really wants to keep the price of BTC suppressed it seems on: February 13, 2017, 06:38:01 AM
We have seen these regulating authorities using these stall tactics for several reasons. The PBOC picked up that some people might be using Bitcoin for capital flight, so they were send to the Chinese exchanges to monitor and control that. The SEC on the other hand, seem to have their own agenda < protecting the wealthy elite or creating a barrier to entry for Bitcoin investments >

We should actually blame the media for this negative attention and stall tactics that are being used, because most of that originated from bad reporting and/or shill posting that was done to push Bitcoin down. This fake news, put Trump in power and it is stalling Bitcoin's rapid progress. ^hmmmmmmm^
11813  Economy / Gambling / Re: FreeBitco.in - Win free Bitcoins every hour! on: February 13, 2017, 06:11:35 AM
...

only one guy? I don't think its a good proof to see only one people only won in that site and its good to see more people posting some proofs that they won on freebit so for now maybe i will try my luck at their freerolls and enjoy first their game thru their faucet.

And also if dev of this site want to excell his busines i think he should compete to the other site for now and he should lower down his house edge so people will not get annoyed when they actually see his site.
Hmm.... yea, only one guy who ever posted on this forum if he rolled 10000. He was also posted the tax ID when he withdrew his money (is it still not a good proof?)
(No idea if there was only that guy, or there were few people who won too but never posted on this forum because they don't know), ask wetsuit for the best answer.

Go to the give-away section of this forum and see what happens when some site gave away $1 and $2 to some of these users. They create posts thanking the site and showing their support and gratitude. Now, with Freebitco.in we would expect the same to happen, because most people using faucets, do not have a lot of money. So if they win $5 or $10 and any of the smaller prizes, they should react in the same manner? Nope, not at all. ^hmmmmmm^

The first thing I will do, when I win something big at Freebitco.in, would be to come back here and to brag about it, and to show my gratitude to the site owner, but that is just me. ^smile^
11814  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: how and when i can join in facebook and twitter campaign??? on: February 13, 2017, 05:51:40 AM
I reckon you do not have any problems with getting dox'ed by linking your real identity with your social media accounts? In affect, what happens when you join these campaigns, you expose your real identity and that can be very risky for several reasons.

Example : You win a lottery on one of these gambling sites, say 2500 btc. People will automatically know who you are and link you to that money, making you a potential target for a hack attempt to get to that money.

Your financial privacy is more important than a few dollars being paid into your account every week. ^hmmmmm^
11815  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Should governments allow people to pay their taxes in Bitcoin BTC? on: February 13, 2017, 05:43:32 AM
I already pay tax on the coins I convert to fiat via my exchange, because it is linked to my bank account. So they issue a tax certificate and they are linked to the IRS. You pay capital gains and also VAT on all your purchases, so I cannot see what else you have to pay on top of that?

The regulated exchanges have to adhere to KYC and AML regulations, so everything is accessible to the IRS.
11816  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: RogerKver invested $13k into a (ponzi)? on: February 13, 2017, 05:35:51 AM
This guy must really have some change to throw around....isn't this site just an obvious ponzi or am I missing something?

https://twitter.com/cryptiply/status/830932049078784000

I've tested the site (cryptiply.com) due to good feedback in their bitcointalk ann and it pays though that definitely does not justify what it will do in the future...

Any enlightenment?
Is it bait to attract more victims? I don't ever believe if rogerver will be investing his money into the ponzi. The BU expert will not become a stupid person, but how can they confirm if it was rogerver?  Roll Eyes Shocked This site is obvious ponzi site.  Cool

Maybe Cryptiply was referencing a different Roger Ver: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jw6bAHXdD9w

Gleb, even if it was a different Roger Ver, it would still create confusion with the Crypto crowd, because it is being insinuated that it is the real Roger Ver. It is not illegal to invest in HYIP schemes in many countries, but it is highly unethical for many different reasons. < There will always be losers in these schemes >

I have experimented with these HYIPs/Ponzi schemes in the past, just to satisfy my curiosity and in the beginning everything works like a charm, but the longer you stay in, the worst it gets.
11817  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Optimist: January 2017, Recap — “With Clarity, Comes Stability” on: February 13, 2017, 05:29:39 AM
We need sites like this, because we have enough sites spreading negative fud all over the place. I like the idea, but I would like to see biased opinions on different matters regarding Bitcoin. Do not change the content to be overly optimistic, because people will see through that and call out the BS from the truth.

I like to read articles with positive opinions, but it should be realistic and fact driven. < If Roger Vicking says the price of Bitcoin will go to $20 000 per bitcoin, then I want a realistic explanation for that. > No thumb sucking!
11818  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How can i make Bitcoin/money from a third world country on: February 13, 2017, 05:19:59 AM
Do you want to make "money" or earn money. ^smile^ To be honest, I found that it was easier to earn money at home from a extra job, than to earn money online, because most of these sites pay peanuts for a bunch of time and effort spend doing boring jobs repetitively. < Click on 300 Ads every 5 minutes and earn $0.50 cents. >

You would be better off cutting someone's grass and then paying it into your bank account and then buying Bitcoin.

You should also move this thread to the beginner section.
11819  Economy / Gambling / Re: FreeBitco.in - Win free Bitcoins every hour! on: February 10, 2017, 09:08:16 AM
Has anyone ever won the lottery? I mean someone from here that is a trusted member not a newbie coming and saying they hit? I don't buy very many times besides the ones that i get from collecting the free btc and the ones i get from wagering from time to time. I've made a few mill in deposit with never any success. So i gave up the idea of playing there and actually having a shot at winning.

The lottery is a good idea but i always just assume its one of the owners alts as you never really know who wins.

Do the math 85 lottery draws x 10 winners = 850 + 9 { 3 lottery draws has 3 winners in the beginning } = 859 winners and NONE of those winners has come to this forum to report on it. {even after they have received a email from the owner, asking them to report it here on this forum, with a link to this thread}

Strange?

Your assumption is shared with many others too, but we have no data to work with, only common sense. ^smile^

It would help if you can give us some more information on what you can offer in skills. The Alt coins discussion is here, https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?board=67.0 if you are specifically interested in Alt coin matters. Do you want to be part of the development or promotion or marketing side of this?

What experience do you have? ^smile^
