11841  Bitcoin / Press / Re: 2020-12-22 Yahoo - Why BTC's blockbuster 2020 is different than the 2017 bubble on: December 29, 2020, 02:58:17 AM
Back in 2017, cryptocurrencies were overhyped by the media and many of the little known cryptocurrencies (those without any real usage) managed to achieve a market cap of tens of billions of USD almost overnight. This time, the situation seems to be different. The bull run is supported by solid fundamentals, such as increase in mainstream acceptance. And even better, shitcoins such as XRP are not a part of this rally.
11842  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: OMG !!!!! You BitCoin people were right. I wish I had bought back in March :( on: December 29, 2020, 02:48:37 AM
All this issues occur, when people want quick profits. If you plan to remain invested for the long-term, then these temporary dips and spikes are not going to change your investment strategy. And especially with Bitcoin, those who have remained invested for more than 3-4 years have been rewarded quite handsomely. And that is the reason why I advise the newbies to accumulate as many coins as they can, even at the current levels. In the next few years, you will be definitely end up with a significant amount of profit.
11843  Economy / Economics / Re: The volatility in the price of a bitcoin is falling over time on: December 29, 2020, 02:38:42 AM
Even now, Bitcoin is moving up or down by as much as 10-15%, which is quite a lot IMO. It is time for us to admit that high volatility is one of the basic characteristics of Bitcoin. If you want a stable asset to invest in, then you should look for treasury bonds or bank deposits rather than cryptocurrency. Bitcoin is there for investors who can afford some volatility and instability.
11844  Economy / Economics / Re: China Economy Forecasted to Surpass US Economy by 2028 on: December 29, 2020, 02:27:08 AM
That's quite possible. I don't like the fact that the United States can print dollars almost uncontrollably and exchange them for goods all over the world. The Chinese economy is working much more efficiently today, and therefore it is developing much faster. I see that the digital yuan will only strengthen this trend.

US Dollar is the reserve currency of the world and that works to the advantage of the United States. They can take loans from the international donors, at extremely low interest rates. Other countries (including China) doesn't have that advantage. On top of that, the Chinese Yuan has a reputation as one of the most manipulated currencies in the world and very few people would be willing to deal with CNY in international trade.
11845  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Cricket match prediction discussions on: December 29, 2020, 02:17:20 AM
Cricket is easier to predict than Football and hence started following but not much success as i only wage on money line mostly

Test cricket may be. But I found T20 cricket very unpredictable. Very often you will see weak teams such as Ireland and Netherlands defeating strong teams such as England in T20 cricket. On the other hand, I have found football more easier to predict. At least when compared to cricket, upsets are very rare in international football (I mostly avoid club matches as far as football is concerned).
11846  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Test Cricket Prediction and Discussion Thread [self - mod] on: December 29, 2020, 02:07:59 AM
Finally!! India need 70 runs to level the series.

Now this should be very simple and straight forward for the Indians. Congratulations for leveling the series 1-1. Australia has only themselves to blame for their poor performance. India was playing without many of their key players and yet Australia could not perform in a satisfactory manner. They need a complete rethink on their batting strategy, against the Indian bowlers.
11847  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Cricket match prediction discussions on: December 28, 2020, 04:45:31 AM
If you have no idea about cricket, it is not right to bet. You bet on cricket, football, boxing and basketball. But I just bet on cricket and football. Because even if I understand other games, I can't predict them. I lack my skills in other sports. So I will never take such a risk. Although I'm trying to understand the game of basketball correctly. So I watch lots of basketball matches.

If you want to be a successful gambler, then you need to flag sports events where the gambling sites have calculated their odds inaccurately. It won't happen very often, and may be you get such chances in 1% or 2% of the matches. Gambling sites have their own methodology to calculate the odds, which may or may not match those of yours. So in case there is a big difference in the odds, you need to analyze the possible outcome and make a bet if the odds look attractive to you.

One example that comes to my mind is the boxing match between Keith Thurman and Manny Pacquiao. Many of the gambling sites provided better odds to Thurman (at least initially). But gamblers made bets in favor of Pacquiao, because they knew that he was a much better boxer.
11848  Economy / Economics / Re: David Rosenber: Bitcoin is in a 'massive bubble' on: December 28, 2020, 04:34:11 AM
This. Bitcoin has crashed many times before and risen again but that hasn't stopped it from moving forward. Though I doubt it could crash to under 15-20K under current market conditions or under 10K in bad market conditions. What is more concerning is the possibility for price manipulation if large players sold all at once.

Bitcoin is a new asset class. You can't even buy it at the bank yet. There is plenty of room to grow.

Bitcoin is susceptible to mass-selloffs, because a large part of its circulating supply is being held by individual investors. And when compared to institutional investors, these investors are more susceptible to panic selling. This is the reason why the prices crash by 80% or more, whenever a correction happens. But the situation has changed now, with the entry of mainstream investors and Wall Street giants. That should add more stability to the exchange rates.
11849  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: This what the paypal CEO said years ago about Bitcoin on: December 28, 2020, 04:24:37 AM
The point is they was against btc.
Now they bought the btc

Lol

It is not that hard to understand. Back then Bitcoin was being hyped as a mode of payment, and as a challenger to banks and payment processors such as PayPal. But it is true that Bitcoin never gained much traction as a payment method. Nowadays, it is mostly being used as an investment asset and therefore PayPal no longer considers it as a competitor. So I don't think that there is anything surprising with this video, or with the stance currently being taken by PayPal regarding cryptocurrency.
11850  Economy / Economics / Re: China to overtake the Us as the largest global economy by 2028? on: December 28, 2020, 04:14:37 AM
This was bound to happen, and I expect the Chinese economy to grow at a much faster pace than expected and overtake the Americans sooner than the analysts are predicting. China has transformed their system from a socialist economy to a capitalist economy, while the US has gone in the opposite direction. With politicians such as Kamala Harris and Nancy Pelosi in charge, they are inching closer to having a socialist system. And the results will be very much predictable. A socialist economy can never be successful, anywhere in the world.
11851  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2020-12-17] IRS is trapping bitcoin and altcoin investors on 2020 tax form on: December 28, 2020, 04:04:13 AM
Although these are records for the US government, this is by no means unique to the US. Other countries and other governments are employing blockchain analysis and forcing exchanges to hand over customer details. Don't assume you will be safe simply because you are not a US citizen.

Agreed. I am not under a false impression that I am safe, just because I am living outside the United States. With the exchange rates rising so rapidly, the tax authorities in other countries will also be very interested in high-volume exchange users from their jurisdictions and they may hire the same Blockchain analytics companies such as Elliptic and go after the users who are residing within their borders.
11852  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: [Boxing] Floyd Mayweather vs. Logan Paul - February 20 on: December 28, 2020, 03:54:21 AM
It is not normal when such great rivals meet each other only once, because there can really be a lot of reasons when one fighter loses to another in a particular fight on a particular day and at a particular hour. Any boxer, especially a good one, should have a chance to fight again to try to get revenge for his defeat, although of course the system of professional Boxing with one opponent per year and its own selection of an opponent can prevent this.

The problem is that the winning fighter will always avoid a rematch with the losing one. We have seen this with Floyd (after he won his fight against Pacquiao) and with Canelo Alvarez (after his controversial win during the second match against GGG). The match can only happen if both the boxers agree to it. In case any of them don't want a rematch, then we can't force them.
11853  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What happens to my bitcoin if I die today? on: December 28, 2020, 03:44:14 AM
The best way for your anxiety with regards to you bitcoin being wasted if you somewhat die today is to at least inform any one on you family you trusted with the details on your bitcoin profile and access. This is for the reason of avoiding the efforts you had made and it will help your family a lot financially.

There is an option in Gmail, to transfer ownership in case of the account gets inactive. You can set a time period (such as 12 months or 18 months) and then specify the email ID of the recipient. If something happens to you and the Gmail account remains idle for 12 months, then after that period it will be transferred to the person whom you have mentioned. In this way, you can share the private key of your Bitcoin Wallet with your loved ones securely.
11854  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: T20 and T20I cricket prediction and discussion on: December 28, 2020, 03:34:19 AM
The only reason i can think to have a cap on player salaries is to avoid a team having a monopoly who have unlimited resources to purchase any player and if that happens the competition level dips and it can affect the entire IPL brand.

The only change i would like to see is to stop shuffling the players every year. They can have player transfers and these bidding should happen every 2 or 3 years so that they can build a fan following outside India.

A team can purchase only a limited number of players (around 24 if I am not wrong), so the argument is not right. Even if a team such as Mumbai Indians pour a lot of money to purchase the top 24 players (which is very unlikely), there are enough quality players left for the other teams. But I agree that the shuffling of players must stop. It is confusing for the fans to see the top players changing the franchises every year.
11855  Economy / Economics / Re: Loans are cheap good time to use loans for Investment in btc on: December 28, 2020, 03:24:40 AM
With what happened to XRP can also be applied to other cryptocurrency and instead of a negative news why not take into consideration the positive news. Imagine if you take a loan to invest in an asset such as BTC before the halving happen, and it goes up 100% in just a week. It's just about the timing and right decision when you're investing unto something. Ask yourself, why would invest in an asset that receive a negative feedback and wait for two weeks before you even pullout. You could avoid a huge 60% loss if you've pulled out early.

It is not that simple. No one knew that XRP would go down by 60% in a matter of few days. The exchange rates crashed as soon as the announcement from SEC was made. It was possible to pull out, but only after suffering a huge loss. And how are you going to cover the loss, since you have taken a loan to invest in this asset? Cryptocurrencies are highly volatile, and this can happen not just with XRP, but also with the other coins as well.
11856  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Test Cricket Prediction and Discussion Thread [self - mod] on: December 28, 2020, 03:14:21 AM
If they make Rahane as full-time test captain it is just win-win situation for the team India as well as for Kohli himself because since he became captain we know he is getting more pressure so his natural flow while batting is getting affected which gives a big blow to the total batting order as well on the other hand when Rajane takes captaincy he lay more sensible and classy.

It will be wrong to say that Kohli's performance was affected by the added responsibility of captaincy, because he has been the captain for so long. He has performed exceptionally, while carrying out his duties as the captain in the past. Now I don't know whether the same can be said for the others, who are being considered for the captaincy. I am talking about players such as Rahane, Iyer and Rohit.
11857  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2020-12-18] BTC bull run to last until the second half of 2021? on: December 27, 2020, 04:41:56 AM
Bitcoin prices are increasing very sharply. During the last three months, they have risen by more than 160%. Going by this trend, we can expect exchange rates in excess of $100,000 per coin if the bull run lasts for another six months. But personally I don't expect the rally to go on for that long. There will be a strong correction in the prices, as a result of profit booking by short-term and medium-term investors.
11858  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Are Bitcoin's fees overpriced? on: December 27, 2020, 04:28:07 AM
This issue is exacerbated by the rise in exchange rate of Bitcoin. Earlier, if the median fee per transaction was BTC0.0002, then it translated to just $2. Now with the price rise, the same transaction will cost you $5.30. And in the future, we can expect this to go up even further. The total number of transactions are not going to decrease, and the block size will remain constant.
11859  Economy / Economics / Re: US Economy finally rebounds in the right direction. on: December 27, 2020, 04:17:36 AM
Pfizer vaccine made a good contribution for that rebound and hopefully we are now going to the right path we’re used to be. Anyway, I just heard that Trump is planning a Martial law because Biden defeated him and I don’t know what will be the impact of this one, but I’m sure there will be another problem if this things will push through. We are all suffering because of the pandemic, I wish for the fast recovery especially on a developing countries.

The mass vaccination program hasn't yet started in the United States and the Pfizer vaccine is very unstable and needs to be stored at minus 70 degrees. Looking at the number of ultra-deep freezers in the US, it is going to take ages to vaccinate everyone with this vaccine. And the vaccine from Oxford/AstraZeneca, which doesn't need such ultra-low temperature to store has shown a very low efficiency.
11860  Economy / Economics / Re: Loans are cheap good time to use loans for Investment in btc on: December 27, 2020, 04:07:51 AM
You can't be granted a loan without any collateral, and again there is a high chance that you will lose all the loaned money to crypto because crypto is unpredictable and you can't tell when bull run will be over, the safest time to buy crypto is when bears have taken over

It is very simple. Just look at Ripple. After the directive from the SEC, it has lost more than 60% of its value in less than two weeks. And I don't think that what happened to XRP will be an isolated incident. The same can happen to the other cryptocurrencies as well. Now ask yourself what you are going to do, in case you have taken a loan to invest in an asset such as XRP, and it goes down by 60% in two weeks.
