Humanity is developing and, in my opinion, sports where only physics matters will die away (like javelin throwing, etc.) and those sports where there is an element of intelligence and team play will develop.

It is true. Therefore, it is necessary to gradually adapt to new competitions.

On the other hand, taking into account that there are records, there will always be someone who will try to surpass. So it won't be tests that will end, they may have fewer players, but I don't think they will end.

Yes, there will always be people who will test the limits of the physical capabilities of people, but the number of people who will be willing to pay for this (even with just their attention) will keep decreasing. This evolution is very clearly visible in computer games - now only team games are popular, and games where one player shows super skills are of interest to a much smaller audience.

To believe that God is going to help you in sports is to have the same primitive thinking of those tribes that prayed or offered sacrifices for it to rain. God, supposing that something similar exists, does not have any kind of intervention in natural phenomena. He does not influence whether it rains or stops, or the outcome of a sporting event.

The paradox is that all these primitive rituals give their performers confidence. Naturally, belief in everything supernatural is irrational, but in fact, if a person believes that someone or something is helping him, he becomes more self-confident and achieves really better results. Therefore, I would not argue that this behavior is meaningless.

According to AS, PSG are looking for signing Juventus centre-forward Cristiano Ronaldo next summer. Because Mbappe can be signed by Real Madrid for free in the next summer. Mbappe has been thinking of leaving the team so he doesn't intend to extend his contract anymore. Maybe Messi transfer can effect his decision but I'm not sure about it.

Haha, the aged Ronaldo and Messi are on the same team - it would be interesting to see, as far as I know, despite the war between their fans, they have a great relationship with each other.
After receiving the championship in France, there will be only one major championship for Ronaldo - Germany to collect all the European trophies)

I hope you are kidding? Why would I read these childish excuses like "the delta variant dog ate my homework"?
The virus mutates all the time and a vaccine that works well against one strain is rubbish. And by killing one strain, you immediately open the way for all others who were "oppressed" by the more widespread strain. It's an endless loop. By the way, do you think that in the future you will have to do a thousand vaccinations against each strain separately?

If the population is fully vaccinated and herd immunity is achieved, then the virus will stop infecting humans and the mutations will stop. The reason why we had delta strain in the first place was that during the initial stages, the developed nations hoarded all the vaccines, leaving poor nations with a vaccine shortage. If you remember, the more fatal strains emerged almost 15 months after the appearance of the original strain. There was enough time to vaccinate everyone, but it was not done. And right now, there is no option apart from getting vaccinated, to stay alive.

No. I can assume that you are not following the latest news on this topic. Even Israeli officials recently made a statement that universal vaccination is not a total solution to the coronavirus issue. And they say this on the basis of the actual situation that has developed in their country, although even before that, many people stated the same. If you are interested, check this information from any source from which you are comfortable. In addition, in general, the idea that you can vaccinate everyone and stop mutations is a utopia. The virus mutation rate is very high and it occurs even in vaccinated carriers.
11865  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: What does it take for a game to "hook" people on: August 14, 2021, 12:51:17 PM
People are hooked with nft games today because of the feature of earning. And that's just the same in gambling, many are hooked because they've made money from it.
That cannot be removed from those people that have experienced earning from it because they're happy doing so and that's the same as the example you've mentioned.

Do you mean games where NTF tokens are used? I think that if a person's main idea is to make money, then he doesn't even need to play something. As I know, various NTF tokens like cryptopunks sell well and are in great demand even without any use in games or anywhere else.
11866  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: ⚽UEFA Champions League Discussion Thread -- now at: 21/22 3rd Qualifying Round on: August 13, 2021, 04:58:58 PM
The rule (or rather a statistical observation) is that the team that strikes first in the penalty shootout has a greater chance of winning than the opponent. And by the way, Italy was the first in the penalty shootout. In principle, this is easy to explain - the team that kicks the first one always goes one move ahead, and the second team catches up, so the first team has the right to make one mistake.

Ah okay, so it's just a statistics thing but yeah, who wouldn't want to be the one having a perfect streak in penalties right? Yet we have also to look at the whole picture. If you put your best 3 in first, maybe the pressure is bigger on the weaker ones. Maybe better to give the weaker ones FIRST and let the 3 best takers at the end who may not be as affected by pressure?

These are not just statistics. This is a statistic that follows from the pattern - the one who starts the penalty shootout has the advantage.
I think that putting weaker players in the beginning is a bad idea, since there is a possibility that the turn of the stronger players will not come as the penalty shootout will already be lost. In addition, misses and catch-up position are demoralizing even for strong players.

Why do you think video poker is dying?
If you mean poker in slot machines, then it hardly ever had a large share in games in general, but now their number is increasing and it is losing its share only because of this.
If you mean online poker with real people, then despite the fact that the hype went through it has a huge constant gaming audience. The only problem I know with this kind of poker is the software that collects statistics on the players, which allows professional players to have an edge.

Actually @Kyraishi is right regarding the fact that video poker is dying. This game can't compete with modern sophisticated slots, and it's hard to imagine how you can improve this particular game to make it attractive amidst those newly developed slots.

And of course(or should I say "I hope") he didn't mean poker with real people, because there is a clear definition for what video poker is, and it's very close to a slot game and very far from real poker.

Well, if we are talking about poker in the form of playing on a slot machine, then I do not see any problem in this. This is a wretched game I hardly believe that it will be missed even if it completely disappears. I remember how I played such a game (about 20 years ago lol), the essence of the game was that the machine randomly gave you cards and you could either take the win (if you had any combination and profit was minimal) or try to double it (several times in a row). "Funny" gameplay.

Judging by the news of recent days, there is nothing to regret - Israel has confirmed that their mass vaccination did not help and it is impossible to defeat the pandemic with it. As far as I remember, they were vaccinated mainly with the Pfizer vaccine. As for the company's tough position on the supply of the Pfizer vaccine to Argentina, this is quite logical, this country has a long series of defaults and often violates its obligations.

Against the original strain, Pfizer had around 95% efficacy. But it is proving increasingly ineffective against the delta variant, which is causing a majority of the COVID-related deaths now. Check this:

https://www.reuters.com/business/healthcare-pharmaceuticals/moderna-may-be-superior-pfizer-against-delta-breakthrough-odds-rise-with-time-2021-08-09/

A study by the Mayo Clinic suggests that Moderna vaccine is 76% effective against the delta variant, while Pfizer has an efficacy of just 42%. BTW, the other vaccines (such as Sinopharm and AstraZeneca) fare far worse against the delta variant.

I hope you are kidding? Why would I read these childish excuses like "the delta variant dog ate my homework"?

From the side of PSG owners, it looks like an allin for winning the Champions League this year (hopefully they fail). From the outside, it looks silly - even Real of the Galactic era could not win everything they wanted (at least with the desired frequency) and now any well-played team of less high-class players can beat a team of stars.

True, and there's one more thing, when a club becomes a club in which all players are world-class star players, the trend is that among players begins to have a certain jealousy and the performance of the team in great competition as a Champions League becomes poor and disappointing performance. in my opinion PSG is currently stronger than last season due to Messi arrival, but in theoretical terms, no one has ever seen what Messi performance will be like in another team and league with a style very different from barcelona and la liga, this will be the first time we will all see messi playing outside barcelona, and if he can't perform well then it will be a problem for both PSG and messi reputation. messi, neymar and Mbappe  will be the attention of the media who will always be comparing the performance of these 3 players in each game and this will start to put pressure on these players

Messi is a player who is very dependent on the team, I very much doubt that Neymar (who left Barcelona just in order not to be in the shadow of Messi), Mbappe and others will work for Messi's image to the detriment of their game. Messi cannot share the “glory” with other outstanding footballers - I have already mentioned Neymar, but there was also Ibrahimovic and Villa which clearly could not get along with Messi on the same team.

Often times i have observed players in a soccer team coming together before the start of a soccer match to "pray" before the kick off of their match against an opponent.

I'm always baffled and i need to ask, do you think God involves himself in things like soccer and other sports?

Lol. God is very concerned about what is happening there (in the picture our planet is photographed from distant space)  Cheesy

All of these prayers, hugs and other encouragement to each other are common in all team sports. This is important for the emotional state of the team, but it is related to the physiology and social essence of the person and not to the hopes in God.

Great news and PSG will most likely sell Mbappe. Now the choice is quite obvious - to get 120 million and lose a player, or in a year to lose both the player and this money, the choice is obvious. I am sure that if Mbappe is as focused on achieving the result as Ronaldo he will be able to repeat (and maybe surpass) some of the Portuguese's records.

Kylian Mbappe will not be allowed to leave PSD this summer, according to news sources - as the club's owners want him to form a strike force with Neymar and Messi for at least one season. It appears they would rather let him go for nothing than sell this summer, so Mbappe will be able to talk to other clubs from January 2022.

Together, the all-star lineup will form "the highest-paid strike force in world football" and I would definitely love to see that in action.  Cheesy

Real Madrid will try to sign PSG striker Kilian Mbappé in this transfer window.

The Spaniards are going to offer 120 million euros for the player. If the Parisians refuse, Real Madrid will count on the fact that Kilian decides to move to Madrid next summer as a free agent.

I think the chess issue is really the lack of spectators. It is rare for there to be a significant number of spectators at chess tournaments.
It is very common to have chess tournaments in high school. But usually only this one notices the players or the most direct friends/family of the players.

Check the number of viewers on the chess-themed YouTube channels. By the way, even on Twitch, chess broadcasts are always close to the top and overtake many legendary games in terms of the number of viewers.

Yes it can even have a good number of viewers online. And at the viewers of events? Have?

Sure. Each tournament gathers a huge audience. And I mean not only big competitions but also regular ones like Title Tuesday and others.

(I'm just trying to understand your point of view).

First of all, I want to say that I'm not against the idea of Chess being part of the Olympic games.

In Greece, ancient origin of the Olympic games, they served for the players to surpass others in physical competitions. They at an intellectual level did not need to resort to that type of games. It was on this basis that the modern Olympic games modern.

And it is on this basis that the new modalities have been approved, the physical overcoming of humans in the face of certain tests.

Not questioning the physical aspect of Chess, it is a modality where the intellectual aspect is what counts and not the physical.

This is an old fight of the international chess federation. But they still haven't managed to convince any organizing country to include them in the games. This is because the inclusion or not of new modalities depends on the organizing country. All sports recognized by the IOC can apply to participate in the games, it is then up to the organization to assess this together and approve or not the sport. That's why there are modalities that some years participate and other years don't.

I understand the historical background of this question, but it seems absurd to me. For example, playing sports can hardly be attributed to a sport where physical condition is of decisive importance (for example, table tennis and especially volleyball). In my opinion, it is stupid to remain on the basis of ideas that were relevant a couple of thousand years ago. Humanity is developing and, in my opinion, sports where only physics matters will die away (like javelin throwing, etc.) and those sports where there is an element of intelligence and team play will develop.

This is great news for the citizens of Argentina - I think with local production they will be able to control the quality better than getting the vaccine from Russia. But it’s really a shame that they have to choose between these third-rate drugs and don’t have access to Pfizer and others in sufficient quantities.

Actually the Argentine government tried hard to procure Pfizer vaccines for its citizens. But Pfizer wanted protection from any future lawsuits related to criminal negligence and wanted the government to keep the military bases and central bank reserves as collateral. The government conducted several rounds of negotiations with the pharma company, but the latter refused to relent. Eventually the president gave up and announced that they will rather go for Sputnik V/Sinopharm/AstraZeneca.

Judging by the news of recent days, there is nothing to regret - Israel has confirmed that their mass vaccination did not help and it is impossible to defeat the pandemic with it. As far as I remember, they were vaccinated mainly with the Pfizer vaccine. 11876  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: [Boxing]: Manny Pacquiao vs Errol Spence Jr - August 21 on: August 13, 2021, 10:08:03 AM
That is, do you think that Ugas is so much weaker than Pacquiao that he will not be able to win one of 5 fights against him (if it were possible to conduct 5 such fights in identical conditions)? It turns out that if you're right, then the 1.26 odds on Pacquiao's victory are super beneficial and you can make an all-in for this outcome?

Suddenly people stop talking about the age of Pacquiao that he is old and he might get injured seriously. But anyway, Yordenis Ugás is not as young as Errol Spence, he is already 35 years but at that age he might still be in his prime. Lots of possibilities in this fight, but all I can see now is that people are thinking it's just an easy fight for Manny Pacquiao.

This is understandable. Spence is a young undefeated boxer and a clear contender to dominate over the years. Yordenis Ugas is a slightly younger boxer than Pacquiao with an impressive record of defeats and does not claim to be a milestone in boxing history. It is possible that the upcoming fight will be easy for Pacquiao, I think if it happens this way, everyone will be disappointed.
11877  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Football Transfers Speculation, Odds and Predictions on: August 13, 2021, 10:01:04 AM
No, I won't even argue because it's true. Without the key players you listed, the game becomes boring. Over the past 10 years, people have only looked at the confrontation between Ronaldo and Messi instead of enjoying the football. And now they're gone. There are no other players (Ramos, Suarez) either, there's nothing to watch... Messi is now having fun with Ramos at another club, while Aguero already wants to leave Barcelona. Somehow it's embarrassing)

Perhaps you think so because you yourself watched only the confrontation between Ronaldo and Messi. In fact, the opposition of these clubs is always interesting regardless of the composition of the teams and has deep historical roots. Perhaps the only difference from the past decade is that now these clubs do not occupy the first and second places in strength in the world.

By the way, I noticed that the rule "who begins a series of penalties that wins" was the work even more tightly than before. I can't even remember when I last saw the opposite, although statistically the team starting the streak has an advantage of about 10%.

Not sure what you mean by this rule? If you have a streak of penalties you have a better chance of winning the shootout you mean? Didn't this also happen in the last EUROs though? Smiley

Italy failed the second kick and then England made it 2-1 so the pressure was on Italy, and then Italy even missed the last, but then we all know England missed their last 3 shots and boom, trophy lost.

The rule (or rather a statistical observation) is that the team that strikes first in the penalty shootout has a greater chance of winning than the opponent. And by the way, Italy was the first in the penalty shootout. You're right, if Mbappe goes to Real Madrid, the team will probably become much more dependent on him. But has Mbappe been experienced enough at the moment? That he will be able to take charge of the entire club? Big clubs like Real Madrid definitely need experienced players. Mbappe is a very talented and extraordinary player. But he still lacks experience. We have seen how he has performed for France in the Euros. Benjama has played much better than him.

Mbappe has already taken part in all tournaments that can be imagined and he has many achievements and titles (by the way, he is the world champion if you didn't know). He is ready to move to Real Madrid, and tell me, can Mbappe, being in PSG and the weak French championship, really progress and gain some new experience? I'm sure not.

Next week the first round of the Playoffs beginning.

Some games are very difficult to estimate, but I think Monaco, Dinamo, Benfica, RB Salzburg will advance. The other two games I can not estimate. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for Ferencvaros, because the coach there is from Austria and I would like to see Peter Stöger promoted.

Funnily enough, two pair are clearly stronger than the others in this round. This is Monaco - Shakhtar and Benfica - PSV, I am sure that if they had not played with each other, then everyone would have passed to the next stage. It can be said that fate turned out to be supportive of the underdogs and gives everyone a chance, and the stronger teams compete with each other.
