11921  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Did bitcoin like systems already exist? on: January 24, 2017, 05:23:45 AM
The whole technology is actually a combination of old concepts that existed way before Bitcoin, but Satoshi managed to put them together in a way that works perfectly. He actually solved a age old problem, called The Byzantine General's Problem, which in it self is a huge accomplishment. ^smile^

Genius!
11922  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why Blockstream must stay honest on: January 23, 2017, 08:07:11 AM
Does Blockstream have all the power to control everything? No the miners have a big say on the whole thing. So if Blockstream turned out to be a bad player another group will try to fork BTC away from core with the full support of the miners. What are you afraid of?

Nobody on this side is scared of anything. ^smile^ We are saying quite the opposite, because nobody needs to be scared of Blockstream or any other developer doing any kind of changes to the protocol. We have Peer review and a strong incentive for developers to be honest.

If the network of users < miners > or node hosts, find out that a developer is hiding some obscure agenda, then they have the most to loose. We have Alt coin developers and developers working on private blockchains, that would like Bitcoin to fail, and if Blockstream or any other developer fails, one of these entities will take their place or replace their code with something that are more desirable.

I say again, consensus means nothing, when consensus can again be used to replace undesirable code. This code might not even come from Blockstream developers. ^hmmmm^
11923  Economy / Services / Re: Seeking Game Artist - (NSFW/Disturbing) - $1000 Bitcoin Budget on: January 23, 2017, 07:09:25 AM
This might be the wrong forum for this buddy, but you might have a look at /vg/ in 4chan, they have a lot of daily topics in regular non vn porn games and also Hongfire(forums), Fenoxo(forums), Hentai Games General /hgg/, also 4chan. I do not condone this type of "Art" but nobody answered your question, so I figured I would take a stab at it.

Some adult content like the dating sim “Crush Crush,” proved to be a hit on the gaming portal, so there seems to be a market for this. ^hmmmmm^

I would not waste my time with this, and rather concentrate on things with a much bigger market and better returns.
11924  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How many total wallets have been opened? on: January 23, 2017, 06:56:03 AM
We should answer your question with a question. Why do you need this information? People can thumb suck stats from sites like Blockchain.info and other centralized sites, but nobody knows how much of these wallets are just duplicates of single users. I have 100's of Bitcoin addresses with different amounts of Satoshi. Every time I experiment with a new site that requires a bitcoin address, I use a new one.

So what are you trying to determine with this question? How many users use Bitcoin or how many wallets contain Satoshi or how many active wallets there are?
11925  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Why Blockstream must stay honest on: January 23, 2017, 06:44:45 AM
I had this discussion in a recent Bitcoin meetup, and I just wanted to share this with you, to get your opinion.

Let's say for one moment Blockstream manage to implement SegWit and the Lightning Network, and this turns out to be a massive plot to take over Bitcoin or to manipulate things in their favor, then this can be stopped.

The members of the group, said that everything that are done, can be undone. If code changes become unacceptable or undesirable then this can be reversed with new code. < even a whole new fork >

Why would they go through all the trouble and time to create something that might turn out to be unacceptable and then reversed or undone by it's competition? People might even shift to another Alt coin, if Bitcoin with SegWit and LN sucks.

A technology like Bitcoin is only as valuable as the network supporting it. ^smile^
11926  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin is 100% safe? on: January 23, 2017, 06:32:42 AM
Bitcoin is a piece of code, and all of this is public. If any part of the code/protocol gets hacked, a patch can be applied to rectify the mistake. As one of the members already indicated, this happened once before and it was quickly picked up and rectified.

The incentive to hack the protocol would be stupid for two reasons :

~ If some major hack is identified, the price will collapse and the owner of these coins, will have received almost zero
   gain for his effort.
~ Any hacked coins can be nullified with a software change, like what happened with ETH. This is not ideal, but it is a
possible solution for a problem like this.

Service built on top of Bitcoin are way more vulnerable than the protocol it self. Like we have seen with several Bitcoin exchanges being hacked.
11927  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Conversion Website on: January 23, 2017, 06:23:00 AM
I would want to see two separate price conversions, one with a average bitcoin price, calculated from say 3 Chinese exchanges and then a separate one for 3 western exchanges. The reason for this is simple, because everyone wants to see where the price fluctuations are coming from.

I use Preev.com currently, but then I have to change sources or visit Chinese exchanges to see what the price is there to make a direct comparison. ^hmmmm^
11928  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: In a Bitcoin Disaster where would you move your Money? on: January 23, 2017, 06:15:37 AM
I would go back to cash, and then into silver or gold. Your main concern when this happens, would be for you to reduce any losses and to store your wealth into some commodity with safe heaven properties. I would never keep everything in fiat, because things are shaky there too.

I think other Alt coins are dependent on Bitcoin's success, so if the biggest and strongest goes down, all other Alt coins will fumble too.
11929  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Fiverr no longer accepts Bitcoin on: January 23, 2017, 06:09:04 AM
It might be because of the high volatility, because merchants do not like high price fluctuations in currencies to operate. If they worked through a payment processors, they would have had to pay a additional fee, to get the bitcoins converted to cash. Fiverr has always been my favorite place to visit, when I had banner Ads made, but I have to look for something else now, because I always paid in bitcoin. ^hmmmm^
11930  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Post your SegWit questions here - open discussion - big week for Bitcoin! on: January 19, 2017, 08:09:24 AM
It looks likely LTC will incorporate seg witness first. That will be interesting indeed.
what would you like to see interesting?
Except of speculation about exchange rates, there will be nothing "interesting" there.

Call it 'embarrassing then" if it does so before BTC. Not like the 2 parties of Devs in BTC land imho are ever gonna agree....stalemate with Core having the advantage
of a bit more land in this stalemate..but still a stalemate imho

But yeah would probably pump LTC a bit and just for a bit. Smiley

Just saying humans being humans ...looks like this imho

I am worried that LTC with SegWit & LN would offer more to investors and they would abandon Bitcoin in favor of LTC with more scaling options Huh I will hedge my investment in <Alt'> Crypto currencies, if something more official happens in this regard.

I can understand that developers would target other Alt coins, with this "add-on", if it does not succeed in incorporating this into Bitcoin. All that time and effort and months of work, cannot be dumped into obscurity.

Consensus can be a cruel beast.
11931  Economy / Micro Earnings / To Faucet owners - Do you still make some profit? on: January 19, 2017, 07:29:27 AM
It has been years now, and faucets are coming and going at a fast rate. The oldest faucets seem to survive on supplementary income from other funding sources, like gambling. Since most advertisement companies have shifted away from paying for Faucet traffic, how are you surviving?

The faucet users are also coming and going at a fast rate, as soon as they realize how little profit are to be gained from the effort that has to be applied.

How have you changed your funding model, to adapt to the changes that has happened in this scene? Can you survive on advertisements alone?

Share some of your stories and plans for the future. < You can stay anonymous > ^smile^
11932  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Will you burn your bitcoins IF something goes wrong? on: January 19, 2017, 07:09:21 AM
I think there might be some angry and emotional people out there, who would go to drastic measures like burning coins to protest against these scenarios. If they did and Bitcoin survived these scenarios, then the remaining coins will be more valuable.

I make sure that I spend at least 20% to 30% of my coins on a regular basis, when the price skyrocket. So in the event, that something happens, I would have had a good experience from this technology. So far, I have managed to pay off some of my debt with my profits and I have bought some physical assets. So I already have a lot to show for my time and efforts.

Make the most of what you have now, so if this thing fails, you would have received something from it. My knowledge and experienced acquired, cannot be measured in money. ^smile^
11933  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Have we reached peak tribalism? on: January 19, 2017, 06:53:46 AM
Yeah, that pretty much sums it up. As far as fixing the problem? How does one fix human nature? Calculating the biological component of Bitcoin was Satoshi's biggest failure.
Ahm curious as ta what you meant by that second sentence there 'bout the biological component.

OP, ya dam rite 'bout the tribalism, but itsa like dat evverwhere, even in tha workplace an'even in tha smallest of tribes. Ain't goin' away anytime soon less'n we collectively crawl our tribal asses back inta tha sea, evilootionarilly speakin'.  An' even then we'll still jist be killin' each otha inna water.

The human element. People are unpredictable.

On the contrary, People are predictable. When Bitcoin started out, the creator was anonymous and then he/she/they abandoned the project, when Gavin was approached by the government. Gavin came to the forefront and received a little bit of power and this went to his head.

The project became to big for him, and he left the scene. He underestimated his support and wanted to come back, but he was not welcomed with open arms. He then started a competing fork, to take back the power. < hostile takeover > but this failed.

So, what is not predictable? Money / power / greed / jealousy / anger / fear are all human factors in this whole experiment. Can we blame these guys? I guess not. Do we accept them back with open arms? Yes, I think we should accept any contribution that would be deemed positive for Bitcoin development.

Will the people making that decision, allow for them to get a foot in the door? No, I doubt it.

Surprise, we are all human after all. ^smile^ B.t.w OP, good topic.
11934  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How is BTC being developed? on: January 19, 2017, 06:31:46 AM
How is BTC being developed?

Poorly and slowly.

So, what's in your opinion in case to make the developing progress be better and faster instead of poorly and slowly?
I understand that bitcoin development require many agreement from devs teams, miners and users that called consensus just like mentioned above. We can't say it will easy due to we don't have any leader and decentralized system if bitcoin, that what makes it interesting. You may share your thoughts to inform us.

Most of the key devs that were devoting their lives to it have moved on to other projects, Chinese miners are controlling development (like block size), getting consensus has proven to be all but impossible, devs are not paid so their motivation is lacking which has led them to work on other projects like lightening, blockstream, etc. It's really a multitude of problems with the system that even other open source projects don't have and I think it's because money is directly involved. People work on Linux distros out of love and care about the project. People work on Bitcoin for cold hard cash and they've proven that time and time again.
i agree with you sir. due to lack of motivation like payment for there hardwork, they try to go other project. whether or not they love what they are doing as long as it compensate them enough.. if only they are being paid right, enough and satisfying, then it will motivate them to do more innovations and developments that would really help the bitcoin community in the near future.

It's not like I'm ungrateful for their work. I understand the need to eat. I just don't think the devs working on Bitcoin see beyond their ability to use Bitcoin for wealth and peer recognition. Bitcoin just doesn't seem to attract the same kind of personalities that Linux does.

Have I missed something? I thought some of these developers were working for MIT & Blockstream to specifically work on Bitcoin? I thought they worked on Bitcoin full-time? How would investors feel, if they are moving onto other projects and not concentrating on Bitcoin? Interesting, I would like to know, what the motivations were for people to invest in Blockstream, if it was not for development of Bitcoin related projects. ^hmmmmm^

11935  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: why haven't charges against Ross Ulbricht been dismissed yet? on: January 19, 2017, 06:11:32 AM
The answer the OP's question is that Ross Ulbricht has already been convicted, so it is too late for the charges to be dismissed.

Backpage was not created with the intent to facilitate illegal activity.
Silkroad was created with the intent to facilitate illegal activity.
Under the law, those two websites couldn't be more different.
Backpage is only facilitating lawful escorting, in this particular situation.
If the ads specifically stated they were prostitutes and provided the fees for
certain acts, then Backpage and their owners would be liable in willful
facilitation of illegal activity.
If Backpage began facilitating illegal drug and illegal weapon sales, then
Backpage's owners would potentially be in the same boat as Ross.

I think it less to do with that and more to do with the personal beliefs and agendas of the judges.

Can they not start a appeal process, based on this court's decision or would he have to wait for a pardon from Trump, to have any chance of not spending all those years in jail? So the website has no obligation to moderate illegal activities, if it is reported to them?

Prostitution is the oldest profession in the world, OK apart from farming. ^smile^

Ross and his mother is fighting a losing battle with this one. You cannot expect a good outcome, when you go up against the government, because they fight you with tax payers money.
11936  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What's the hourly rates for a bitcoin or blockchain developer? on: January 19, 2017, 05:59:01 AM
Blockchain developers have special skills, most other developers do not have yet, because this technology has not been around for a long time. < Since 2009 > So they can basically write their own salary on a piece of paper, and companies will have to take it, because there are not a lot of specialist Blockchain developers out there, and Blockchain technologies are the thing now.

The average pay for a Software Engineer / Developer / Programmer is $73,957 per year. Most people move on to other jobs if they have more than 20 years' experience in this field. < In my opinion, way too low for a specialist Blockchain developer >

11937  Economy / Micro Earnings / Re: FreeBitco.in - Win free Bitcoins every hour! on: January 18, 2017, 07:22:53 AM
I am actually glad the mining investment project, did not work out. I think cloud mining has left a bad taste in many people's mouths over the last couple of years. < Most of them turned Ponzi > So just to make this clear, I am not saying your project would have turned out the same, but the reputation of these other schemes, have tainted the whole scene.

I would much rather see more innovative games for entertainment purposes on your site. The Multiplier and lottery is a bit boring. A game similar to Bustabit would spark a lot of new interest. ^smile^ As a matter of interest, Bustabit removed their faucet, so some sort of partnership between your faucet and their gambling site, would be a match made in heaven. ^smile^

Spice things up a bit. ^Whoooop^
11938  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How to Create Bitcoin Papper Wallet. ? on: January 18, 2017, 06:57:21 AM
~
This is a good Idea. But I have doubt, Can we create papper wallet with that raw HTML files ? There is not using any Server side scripting like PHP and ASP? If no, no need to connect with Internet. If need to load PHP or ASP scripts, Not possible to create papper wallet without connecting with Internet.

since you only want to make a paper wallet i would say buying an old (second hand) computer is riskier than just using your own computer and it will cost you. if you are willing to spend then buy a hardware wallet.

and if you want to do it cheap then use a live linux without persistance as i suggested, you want to print the result anyways so you don't need to keep anything.

and as for that HTML file, it uses javascript to generate the private keys and it needs not internet connection, it only needs any of the modern browsers that support it. you can see all about it here: https://github.com/pointbiz/bitaddress.org
edit for screenshot:

p.s. in the end what you do is mostly a matter of preference. i run an Electrum wallet on my USB stick for instance Smiley

Nope, I disagree. The whole point of the old second hand computer, is to eliminate all external access to any logged data by malicious software, that might reside on the computer. Even booting with another OS, will not remove that risk. Some malicious code are stored in firmware. < Take the Cisco routers as a example >

If nobody can ever gain access to that "offline" computer, then the private key generated on there would be safe. You will have to destroy the hardware, if you want to be 100% sure that nobody would retrieve any information from these devices.

This might sound a bit overkill, but if you are going to store 1000's of coins on these paper wallets or if 1 bitcoin goes up to $100 000/BTC, then you want these paper wallets to be secure.

I create 100's of paper wallets and then I push small quantities to them. If I need to use some, I do not have to sweep a single wallet with a large amount and then transfer the unused coins back to a new wallet. I just sweep a private key, and destroy the wallet. < You cannot re-use it after you sweep it, because the theory is once it was exposed to the internet, it is most probably compromised. >

11939  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2017-01-13] China's Bitcoin Exchanges Quietly Made Policy Updates Overnight on: January 18, 2017, 06:41:29 AM
...exchanges received "informal guidance" from the PBoC. No no no, they told them to stop loaning and borrowing money for margin trading, because people will lose money and the government will be blamed. They will use all the excuses in the book to protect capital flight and to protect their local currency.

The Chinese can expect more intervention from the PBoC, because they have been operating recklessly, like the days in the wild wild west. < damn cowboys > ^smile^
11940  Other / Politics & Society / Re: No Pardon for Ross Ulbricht on: January 18, 2017, 06:12:29 AM
The guy caused a major embarrassment for the American government. He might not have been the King Pin, but his involvement was proven. Why do you sympathize with people who created a platform for people to commit crimes? Drugs destroy families and lives, why should we feel sorry for him?

Yes, they might have made an example of him with the harsh jail time given to him, but that is no reason to give a pardon. C'mon people, be honest for a moment. Would you pardon him?
