Anyone else feel that this $22.5k - $23.5k somewhat sideways movement is similar to the time spent bouncing around 19k a few weeks back?  Up a bit, down a bit but always returning to some form of equilibrium at a similar level.

The longer the sidewinder is in action the higher the top will be.

Please note: this was take directly from bing search "sidewinder"
11962  Economy / Speculation / Re: Anybody have Coinbase screw up with IRS? They think I owe $1.15 million!! on: December 22, 2020, 01:28:42 PM
Why are you guys using coinbase? That wallet is not safe because you aren't in control of your funds, why are people so obsessed with coinbase wallet? You are given nothing but your mail and password, no access to recovery seed or private keys, this is 💯 bad for any crypto users, it seems some don't understand centralized vs decentralized

its likely because they were buying btc and other crypto on coinbase. from the begining coinbase is good start to buy btc, its only the time when KYC  started that some of us move away from it.

IRS is the baddest among the government agency, they could take all you have, ruined your life if you dont property deal things.

Yep I was in collection for 1.5 years.
I left them because I felt 1 of 3 or 1 of 4 people I was asked to collect from were being unfairly punished.
I did not want to be the one doing it to them.

Back to op

My 2018 Coinbase info was nuts it was so fucked up I spent days trying to understand what they did.
The main problem was coinbase pro and coinbase would double count the money/coins when I would transfer back and forth. Also coinbase and bittrex would double count the coins when I transferred back and forth.

In 2019 I stopped Coinbase pro In 2019 I did almost zero with bittrex. This allowed for far less entries.

Ah I guess this has been happening since last year at least. This article explains exactly what the IRS is doing to me.

https://cointelegraph.com/news/the-irs-is-blindly-coming-after-cryptocurrency-traders-heres-why

Wonder how easy a fix this is to tell the IRS they are wrong.

This is a year old. which means you were given a warning letter last year.

Most likely you ignored it thus the IRS pillaged you.

Find a good accountant  and try to fix this.

If you did not file anything at all you are going to get fucked even if you lost money.

The IRS punishes you for not filing properly.

Btw i filed my 2018 return three times trying to get this right.
As I got a warning letter in July 2019.

I worked for the IRS back in the 80’s
My wife is a retired IRS agent as was my late mom.

I have a degree in accounting and it was really really really hard to fix this.

I paid in time and research to do it right.
My 2019 returns were easier.
Good luck.

i would give them twenty lashes with a flaccid green dildo for each and every time they say they wont buy it.

😯

I will not buy through Paypal. I do not need custodial services, and certainly not with an irrational behemoth

And no to the dildo too Wink

and your are exactly the flaw in adoption that many many many many many old school people have.

As the Donald would say sad so very sad.

Just toss some more sand in the wheels of adoption.

I mean considering that specific company were going on about how they'd block accounts involved in it then I think it's pretty reasonable not to consider them trustworthy. Unless you've read, saved and printed your copy of the terms and service and read it all the way through to see what you're entitled to if they have another mood swing I'd do nothing with the.

I don't want mainstream adoption, I want INNOVATION. I don't want to experience a chapter in the middle of a long book I want its sequel.

I am not aware of the tax rate on short-term capital gains in the United States. Is it 30-40%?

Short term capital gains can get up to 37% PA, if you max the tax bracket.

"land of the free" more like land of the fee (pun creds to my autocorrect there).

Yeah im no longer annoyed at my 10% tax bill anymore...

My point exactly you don't want BTC to go mainstream.

I supposed you are pissed off every Norway Citizen now has some BTC in their retirement account.

https://news.coingenius.ai/norway-grants-its-citizens-2-worth-of-bitcoins-through-the-countrys-oldest-pension-fund/

or will that be okay for you.

Is it too common or is it innovative?

You tell me.

It looks like everyone is waiting for a dump in Bitcoin especially under $ 20k again,
but I am sure the Bitcoin price will not be below $ 20k, because this time there are many hold Bitcoin institutions,
so we can relax like a vacation  Grin.

It has not even reached the July 2019 price of 13k  which would be around 30k.

I say we drift around until we hit 30k then we tank.

At bbc reporter 20 billion is nothing compared to 400 billion.

If tether went belly up it would not be enough to tank the btc market.

it may get a few people jailed.

Most likely BTC would take off  rather than tank.

All the other stable coins would need to fold.

I simply don't see the issue you see when I read that article.

bob you a man after my own heart and soul.

I have two paypal accounts with about

250 in btc
175 in btc.

my feeling are this all members of bitcointalk.org that are legally allowed to buy btc on paypal

should.

obviously it does not need to be 1% of your btc it can be lower.

to not buy it when you legally can simply means you do not want btc to be mainstream.

jackg is correct in that it is not the same as having coin stored  in a bitcore wallet.

but i have been at this for 8 years. i have read  adoption adoption adoption.

and now i read dozens of bitcointalk  members speak against owning paypal btc.

i would give them twenty lashes with a flaccid green dildo for each and every time they say they wont buy it.

Back up to 23.2k

Still very good prices every dip gets a bounce. I still think we get very near 30k very soon and correct to wait for it 20k.

Meander along from Jan 2021 to Sept 2021

Then moonshot in the fall.

Other case is sideways sideways sideways til Jan 27 my brith day

then a big move over 40k

first case is more likely.
11970  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Any news about nvidia 3060ti hash rates? on: December 21, 2020, 04:31:12 PM
TDP is balls to wall pedal to the metal spec for your card.

MOST cards dies if run at tdp of 100% under a year.

also you hardly get any more hash maxing to 100%
 of tdp.

here is a test rig

Video link
https://youtu.be/aie0LlO8Q5w

this rig using a titanium psu pulls 282-285 watts

gpus are set to

1) 95 watts - Tdp is 120
2) 85 watts - Tdp is 120
3) 85 watts - Tdp is 120

that is 265 watts that is 360

setting closer to the tdp for these cards in particular does not get more hash.  So basically I don't do it.

Mining is a grind.

Don't burn out the gear by setting to the tdp. =  "this is mostly always true"
11971  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Bitmain Introduces the S19 and S19 Pro on: December 21, 2020, 03:58:30 PM
We have a s19 pro due in 30 days. I will post how it runs.

This era is reminding me of 2016-2017.

Everything was going up and it became easier to get gpus.

Not that I advocate gpu to shit coin to btc. But today right now I am pushed in that direction.

To me I am Always looking at:

debt
cash
coin
asics
gpus

diff
price
profit per algo.

I then juggle all of the above.

I would love to buy some bitmain gear, but  7 month lead time for gear is almost never good.

I could justify getting a unit from bitmain on the books for 2020.
For the following reasons

USA tax law allows me to have ending inventory subtracted from profits of selling gear.

I still sell a lot of gear and have been consistently do my returns to reflect my gear sales.

So ordering a s19pro from bitmain counts as ending inventory since I paid in 2020.

So it is essentially a 3500 tax deduction.

I can buy the btc from coinbase. So it is not btc out of pocket it is cash out of pocket.

It would mean a certain 1200 savings in tax for this year.

So it lower risk of buying a s19pro.

But I could also order 6x 3060ti units for Jan 15 delivery at the same cost.

same tax break and gear is on hand in under a month vs over six months.

I mention all this due to the past 2016-2017 time frame.

I will make a decision to buy a s19pro or 6 x. 3060tis this week.

To all buying a s19 pro may be okay if you report taxes. It can make your choice easier to do.
11972  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Mining hardware on: December 21, 2020, 03:35:27 PM
The power cost it is around 0.02$ Kw, and ofcourse we have 230V Smiley

at 2 us pennies a kwatt you will make money.

Last I heard Norway has vat tax maybe 20%

So next question is how much of that wonderful 2 cent power do you have?

I ask because you are a candidate to get old school cheap s9 gear.

A s9 set to 10 th using aftermarket brains software burns about 780-800 watts.

.8 x 24 = 20 kwatts a day x 2 cents is 40 cent power cost

10 x 17 cents is 1.70 a day

so $1.70-.40= 1.30 a day or 39.00 usd a month.

thus buying s9 gear with a power supply for 125 usd which is doable .

this means the gear pays off in  3 months. as 125/39 = 3.1 months.

I suggest getting s9 gear running with braiins software at 10th or even july 2019 bitmain firmware at 10th

do this a week then clock up a bit to 11th
then clock up a bit to 12th

good luck.

ps

mikeywith a forum member runs a lot of gear like s9’s as he has cheap power.

My grandmother was from Olso. You wrote a polite post so I gave you a merit.
First question what does your power cost per k-watt  please use euro or usd.

Second question  do you have 220-240 volt power.

Many times a good router costs over 200 and a good firewall is also costly.

The pc can be found under 150 a cheap monitor under 50. comes to 200

if he only connects to the one pc from his house and his cellphone  anydesk is free service.

If you (American citizen who qualified for 1st stimulus payment) turned your $1200 free money check from the government into bitcoin on  April 30, 2020 (bitcoin@$8,784) it would now be worth  $3210. (approx)
(and yes, I understand that most folks weren't in a position to do this, sadly. I'm just saying.)

Now it looks like more free money in the works....GO BITCOIN!!

....

(oops! post delete!... I gotta remember to scan back in thread before posting a "new" bitcoin related tweet, because if it's more than 30 seconds old, it has already been posted here, lol)
Yup. I put half in bitcoin, half went to the food bank. Probably do the same with the next one, I really wish the Govt would stop sending money and start sending btc.

Norway kind of did this.

Yeah, sure. Btctalk rookie with 386 ETH. Keep going...

Why does that seem so far fetched?  You think its just ledger FUD to sell more Trezors?  Roll Eyes

Well someone smart enough to acquire 386 eth.  Would most likely not store all of it on 1 wallet.
