11981  Other / Meta / Re: [RELEASED] @mention notification bot - now with Telegram on: September 13, 2019, 07:48:35 AM
@pishite
You can either receive notifications via PM or via Telegram but not both! So if you are already getting them through PM forget about Telegram.
Read through the entire first post, it is all explained there. You need to contact the bot from the same Telegram ID that you registered with in order for the bot to connect your account to your Telegram account.
11982  Local / Hrvatski (Croatian) / Re: Da li trebamo moderatora u hrvatskoj sekciji foruma? on: September 13, 2019, 06:25:55 AM
11983  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Hardware wallets as a measure of mainstream adoption....? on: September 13, 2019, 06:08:11 AM
It doesn't have to be different. Being paranoid is too much, but being extra careful is not wrong. The more hands the wallet goes through before it reaches its final destination the bigger the chance that somewhere along the line there is a rogue employer. These chances are still small and insignificant but nonetheless they are still there.
I wouldn't compare a hardware wallet that holds your funds that are irreversible with a regular piece of hardware that simply malfunctions and you return it to the store and get a new one. If a hardware wallet malfunctions because it was tempered with, your funds are gone and nobody except the new address owner of those funds can get them back to you.
11984  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Hardware wallets as a measure of mainstream adoption....? on: September 12, 2019, 04:54:06 PM
Best Buy used to sell the Ledger Nano S but they don't seem to have them in stock anymore. Not sure how up-to-date that information is.
https://www.bestbuy.com/site/ledger-nano-s-cryptocurrency-hardware-wallet/6298661.p?skuId=6298661

Buying hardware wallets at a physical store would go against the principles we all preach and try to respect that says that hardware wallets should only be bought from the official site or an official re seller. It would certainly help for mass adoption but why trust a third party electronic store?!
11985  Other / Meta / Re: How to detect plagiarism on: September 12, 2019, 08:26:03 AM
Snip
The main point is to make it public to anyone reading the post that you are not the original author in anyway you want. If someone doesn't know the proper way to use the quote button or quote the post it still isn't a big problem. You can make it known that the post isn't yours in other ways.
For example, begin your post by saying
Code:
tranthidung said: xxxxxxxx
Every reported plagiarism post is checked by the forum mods, humans. By checking the report they would realize that a user didn't copy/paste since he is mentioning the original author and isn't claiming it as his own. The user would than receive advice by the mods and other members how to quote posts properly but he wouldn't be banned.
11986  Other / Meta / Re: How to detect plagiarism on: September 11, 2019, 08:33:47 AM
I think the most common reason why many newbies plagiarise is because they are not good with the English language contrary to the belief that they are here to spam. So, whenever they find a post with good English that also says what they wanna say, they copy paste or modify it a bit.
It wouldn't be a problem if you find a post that you like or that completely agrees with what you wanted to say and you copy it fully or a part of it. The problem is not giving credit to the original author of the post by posting the link where you got it from and explaining that you feel the same way as the person who wrote the post.

Writing in perfect English is also not a requirement to participate in discussions here. You can see a clear difference between a genuine post of a user wanting to be a member of the forum and someone who just wrote a bunch of nonsense for whatever reason.

11987  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: MetaMask and Ledger Nano on: September 11, 2019, 08:15:55 AM
If you want to keep your current system, you don't need to do anything. Just connect it to your new hardware and boot from it.
You will be back at your 'old' system without any differences. All your data will be kept.
Are you sure about that?
I remember a few years ago when my motherboard broke on my laptop. I connected my hard-drive to a new laptop. The data and my personal documents were intact but everything else was a mess. Old drivers from the other laptop were installed and the computer started installing new drivers which created compatibility issues. My OS genuine key was blacklisted and I could no longer use that. Tried to call the local Microsoft department to get a new key, they didn't want to exchange it etc etc...
Seems like such hardware changes do create a few issues.

...if you die and your family find the seed and they need to know the passphrase(s) to access your funds? Do you store that in a different location?
Prepare your family in advance for such an event especially if it's a significant amount we are talking about. If you are planning to leave your assets to your partner, parents, brother/sister teach them the basics of what they need to do to access the funds and tell them about this forum. In case something bad happens to you tell them there are users here who are ready to help but also tell them there are scammers waiting and prying for the slightest mistake. They should be careful no to disclose any private information like the seed but not paranoid not to ask questions and give the basic information.

You can store the passphrase together with your seed but I wouldn't advice you do that. If someone were to steal your seed they would also know your passphrase. Better store it elsewhere but those who inherit your assets should also know about the password.
11989  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Sources Say “Orange Coin Good!” New Bitcoin-Only Firmware Now Available on: September 11, 2019, 07:58:06 AM
This was already briefly discussed a few days ago in this thread here > https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5183023.0
According to the responses there by DireWolfM14 and BitCryptex it is not a mandatory update and if you want it you would have to precisely select that Bitcoin only firmware.
11990  Other / Meta / Re: Should Signature Campaigns be moved to their own sub-boards? on: September 11, 2019, 07:49:40 AM
if title does not contain "WTS" or "WTB" or "WTH" then remove
+1, exactly!
If the prefix is not there just trash or lock the thread and/or inform the OP to edit it with the correct code.
It is up to the OP to select the correct code. If he picks the wrong one he will simply not get the right response and applicants. Moderators don't have to do anything about that except scanning the threads for rule violations which they do anyways.
11991  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Football Transfers Speculation, Odds and Predictions on: September 11, 2019, 07:44:56 AM
I wonder in which team will Prosinecki going to sign now. He will probably wait till the start of the winter transfer window.
He handed in his resignation following the defeat to Armenia but the board didn't approve it. Yesterday the official announcement came that he remains the team manager of Bosnia so nothing changes. From what I could read the main problem of the Bosnian FA is of financial nature. The monthly salary of the team manager is so low no respected coach will accept such conditions.
11992  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: List of Bitcoin Mempool Viewers for Reference on: September 10, 2019, 09:52:48 AM
I use https://jochen-hoenicke.de/queue/#0,24h as well.
Was a bit confusing at first trying to figure out what all the different graphs mean. You will mostly need the first and the third graphs that show the unconfirmed transaction count and the mempool size in MB. Basically the closer it is to the dark blue region the sooner your transaction will get confirmed and with less fees.

If you don't care to wait a bit longer just add 1 sat/byte and it will confirm once the mempool empties to that region.

11994  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Gambling Money is Dirty Money on: September 10, 2019, 09:36:28 AM
If you are looking at it from a religious point of view, sure, it is morally wrong and you are not allowed to gamble.
The gambling industry is huge and the amount of taxes that it brings in can be used to improve any infrastructure needed. I don't see why a government would be against gambling and spending the taxes that stem from it.
11995  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Football Transfers Speculation, Odds and Predictions on: September 10, 2019, 09:31:26 AM
Bosnia and Herzegovina team manager Robert Prosinecki (ex Croatian International) has resigned as coach of Bosnia following the teams 4:2 loss to Armenia a few nights ago. Looking at the table Bosnia will find it hard to qualify as they are currently at the 4th place after Italy, Finland and Armenia with 11 points behind the 1st placed Italians.
11996  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: MetaMask and Ledger Nano on: September 10, 2019, 09:21:43 AM
If you are satisfied with the Metamask wallet and its chrome extension you don't need to over complicate things. When you get your hardware issues fixed just install Metamask again on the new system and restore your wallet with the seed you have.
11997  Other / Meta / Re: How to detect plagiarism on: September 09, 2019, 09:22:51 AM
Put the sentence or part of the sentence you think is plagiarized in quotation marks.
"Sentence you want to check here"

Google it or use another search engine if you don't use Google.
If the sentence is plagiarized the search engine should show your the exact results.

Then you compare the dates from the post on this forum to the source/s you found. If the post on Bitcointalk was made after the one that you found by doing the above it is usually a case of copy/pasting.

I said usually because it can still be the same person who posted the original text outside of Bitointalk.
11998  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Bitcoin 'successfully' transferred to an invalid bitcoin address on: September 09, 2019, 09:08:29 AM
But.. electrum is at fault ?
Of course not.
OP lost money, he is angry, frustrated, maybe sad. All of that is understandable. When he reads the above post of yours and the rest he will realize that he made a series of mistakes that led to the loss of funds.  Not just one mistake but several of them. It is sad but it is just the way it is.

'Don't hate the game, hate the player'!
In this case the Electrum developers gave us this app for free to use all of its features that suit our needs.
Scammers took advantage of certain flaws to their advantage...
11999  Other / Meta / Re: Report plagiarism (copy/paste) here. Mods: please give temp or permban as needed on: September 09, 2019, 08:52:50 AM
Unfortunately, the two people I saw in the spreadsheet were equally accepted in the Bounties.

You can see HERE
In that case there is no problem unless one of the ANN creators copy/pasted the content from the other person. But that can only be checked and verified by a native Japanese speaker.
Is that common for bounties to accept two or more participants to do the same work? Seems redundant to me.
It might also be that the bounty manager made a mistake and accepted both of the users for the same task.
12000  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: How many times have you gone against majority on: September 09, 2019, 08:48:02 AM
It's very difficult to predict a game that'll end in a draw, but since it entails the same risk as choosing any other outcome, I do go for it every now and then, and not to forget there are some games that traditionally most times end in a draw
I bet on draws as well but usually I bet on double chance 1X or X2. For some reason a straight up draw is not something I dare to bet on. I am sure many people will agree and bookmakers know this. That is what the odds for draws are usually very high in the 3-4 region or above that.
