QUESTIONS FOR DEVELOPERS & BCN_official

1. Synchronization starts very fast, then slows down, under 150K blocks is problematic, and under 50K is a disaster. Why use single data.mdb file that now has 24.72 GB? Blockchain data.mdb file can not be larger than 5 GB. All over there is a disaster. Do something.

2. Blockchain data.mdb backup file, complete synchronization is made, synchronization again starts with 150K blocks? It would be expected to start from the last block, before the day, two, a few days ago, but not six months back. That's not normal. Why is that so?

3. Do you test the version before releasing it? If there are problems, let us know. Do we need to know something?

    bytecoin-gui.log

[Walletd] Builtin state changed: RUNNING -> CRASHED
[WalletApplication] Daemon finished. Return code: WALLET_FILE_DECRYPT_ERROR (207)
    [JsonRpcClient] Network error. Connection refused
[Walletd] Remote state changed: CONNECTING -> NETWORK_ERROR
[Walletd] Remote state changed: NETWORK_ERROR -> CONNECTING

    etc.

4. Why does not offer a download link for blockchain data.mdb file? It should be an essential component in the download section. You do not need to do a backup every day. Do this at least once a month.

Thanks in advance. Regards

QUESTIONS FOR DEVELOPERS & BCN_official

1. Is it possible that we have sync problems because the IP addresses for the synchronization are attacked/congested? Can you check it out?

- Every service can be DDoSed if you know the IP-addresses. What makes it difficult is that Bytecoin network is decentralized, which means there are multiple nodes sharing the information between each other, so there is no central point which you can attack.

In addition, DDoS attack is an expensive thing. If you have the money to do it, there are many more interesting things that you can do with them Smiley

2. Synchronization starts very fast, then slows down, under 150K blocks is problematic, and under 50K is a disaster. Why use single data.mdb file that now has 24.72 GB? Blockchain data.mdb file can not be larger than 5 GB. All over there is a disaster. Do something.

- That is a good guess from your side. Actually, this phenomenon is related to an object called keyimage. When Bytecoin downloads blocks into the blockchain file, it also checks them for compliance to consensus rules. It involves reading a database of keyimages, which grows proportionally to the size of the blockchain. The larger the database of blocks, the more time you need to search it for the necessary value. This is why the blockchain sync slows down with its size.
The actual size of the blockchain file does not affect performance as much.

3. Blockchain data.mdb backup file, complete synchronization is made, synchronization again starts with 150K blocks? It would be expected to start from the last block, before the day, two, a few days ago, but not six months back. That's not normal. Why is that so?

- Sorry, didn’t get the question. Maybe you can describe this behavior to us in greater detail?

4. Do you test the version before releasing it? If there are problems, let us know. Do we need to know something?

- Of course, we do. There are no reasons to worry at the moment.

    bytecoin-gui.log

[Walletd] Builtin state changed: RUNNING -> CRASHED
[WalletApplication] Daemon finished. Return code: WALLET_FILE_DECRYPT_ERROR (207)
    [JsonRpcClient] Network error. Connection refused
[Walletd] Remote state changed: CONNECTING -> NETWORK_ERROR
[Walletd] Remote state changed: NETWORK_ERROR -> CONNECTING

    etc.

- We suppose these messages were collected in succession? Then the situation is quite clear: the daemon crashed because of WALLET_FILE_DECRYPT_ERROR (207), which is likely caused by incorrect password entry. Since the daemon crashed, the connection to it was refused, and the software tried to reconnect.
These messages gain substance in context. Their presence doesn’t mean something is wrong.

5. Why does not offer a download link for blockchain data.mdb file? It should be an essential component in the download section. You do not need to do a backup every day. Do this at least once a month.

data.mdb is not a backup, but a blockchain database itself.

- First of all, this method defies the whole point of decentralization. This would mean:

You assume the place where you download blockchain from has not tampered with it;
This place is not DDoSed or taken down at this moment.

But secondly, let’s assume that we would check the compliance to the consensus in the file that you have downloaded. This method would have the following disadvantages compared to traditional P2P blockchain download:

You would have to interface with the complete blockchain file, which involves random read/write operations with HDD, which is a slow method. Our tests have shown that the hard drive is the bottleneck when syncing the blockchain, not the network. Getting a block from the network and processing it straight away is faster;
Technically, you cannot interact with files that the browser hasn’t finished downloading. So you would have to wait for it to finish downloading before processing it anyway.

We hope that was able to answer some of your questions!

There is a message circulating on the Telegram that a Raindrop from BCN is being made, in my opinion it's a scam, and I think you'd better warn people through your social media.

Hello! We did make a post about it already on our Twitter account: https://twitter.com/Bytecoin_BCN/status/1027524142726295552

But thank you for bringing it to our attention! Users can always see our official social networks from the main Bytecoin page (https://bytecoin.org/) or message our mods across our various social networks to understand the truthfulness of any giveaways. Remember, the BCN team will never ask you to send any money to us. If you see that anywhere, it is more than likely a scam.

126  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [BCN] Bytecoin. Secure, private, untraceable since 2012 on: August 14, 2018, 09:50:00 AM
half of the blockchain downloaded = 8 hours.
i hope it works.

meanwhile i can't use internet because the wallet is using all my bandwidth to download the blockchain.
there is not an option to limit the download speed.
thanks bytecoin devs.

Thank you for bringing it to our attention about the bandwidth allocation. We are sorry for your experience but after I mentioned it to the devs it is a feature that will most likely get added in future versions!
127  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [BCN] Bytecoin. Secure, private, untraceable since 2012 on: August 14, 2018, 09:47:49 AM
Hello!

I'm using the version 3.1.1. Everything works fine!

Over the past two days, I repeatedly withdrew money from exchanges to a local wallets, then sent money back to the stock exchanges.
Everything works VERY FAST AND GOOD!
Synchronization occurs very quickly too.
I really like this 3.1.1 version.

We are glad to hear you had success using the wallet! Thanks for letting us know!
128  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [BCN] Bytecoin. Secure, private, untraceable since 2012 on: August 13, 2018, 01:05:17 PM
We are sorry to hear about this issue but I have been assured by the dev team that they are working to get it fixed as soon as possible. Thank you for your patience in the meantime!
and... what do you recommend?
because i don't wanna waste a few days downloading +23GB for nothing.

Fresh installation/sync from scratch, yes.
ok.
so... same error connecting to a remote node or downloading the blockchain.
the wallet v3.2.2 doesn't sync completely.

I would hold off re syncing the blockchain until you hear from me / the devs as to not waste your time. They are working on a solution to this and should announce something very soon.
129  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [BCN] Bytecoin. Secure, private, untraceable since 2012 on: August 13, 2018, 11:22:41 AM
What does magic number 728 mean? Eg.

Stuck on 199509 blocks, back to 200237,
synchronizing,
... etc, synchronizing, two steps forward, one back.

I do not know what wallet does (Bytecoin Wallet GUI v3.2.2, Windows 7, 64-bit). In any case for me this is a waste of time. I do not know how synchronizing (in this way) can be successfully completed at all.

In addition, during the synchronization, the wallet occupies the PC (and I do not have a weak machine). At that time, I can not do anything if I want to sync as soon as possible.

I believe in Bytecoin and I do not lose hope but I'm a little disappointed. We and still have a problem with the Bytecoin network and wallet. And that is the cause of all of our problems.

And these 700+ blocks at the end of synchronization are not synchronized. Blocks just add up.

What now?

We are sorry to hear about this issue but I have been assured by the dev team that they are working to get it fixed as soon as possible. Thank you for your patience in the meantime!

Just to be sure. Do they plan on making a new ledger (new coin) with the upcoming fork or am I missing something?

No, no new coins will be created from the upcoming hardfork. It will mostly be an improvement of the API with some new additional features. We will have a blog post before the hardfork to announce all of the new features and everything users will need to know so stay tuned for that!
What kind of new feature you  talking about ? Will you be more specific so our idea will become solid.
is it related to transaction time , or  deposit and withdrawal time  or anything else  Smiley
Thanks in Advance

You are welcome to read about the new features we will include related to the hardfork here: https://bytecoin.org/blog/updated-bytecoin-roadmap/ But like we said in the previous post, we will come out with a blog post before the hardfork will will have much more detailed information. Please stay tuned for that!

Friendly Reminder from the Bytecoin Team

Hello Community!

We want to remind our Bytecoin Desktop users about the importance of making backups of their .wallet files. While everyone has a copy of the blockchain, only you have the keys to decrypt your transactions. Stay safe!

is that true that your project is related to deep web if so then how people communicate with you?

Our project began on the deep web when it was first released / created in 2012, but now we exist not only on the deep web. If you are asking how people contact us, you can go to our web site and contact us through there. Or did you mean something else?

We have released new Daemon and Desktop Wallets (Version 3.2.1)! Go here to download/update your software: https://bytecoin.org/downloads/

See here for the release notes: https://github.com/bcndev/bytecoin-gui/blob/master/ReleaseNotes.md

Normal installation (rewrite 3.2.0 beta) or fresh installation (uninstall/install)? New synchronization or not required?

Thanks

We would be happy to help answer that.

Which operating system are you using?

Windows 7, 64 bit

We would recommended that you completely uninstall the previous version of the wallet and install the new version. New synchronization is not required.
