I made a claim to inputs.io and they asked for "government issued photo id". Why would they need that?

My theory, they want to discourage people to withdraw coins because most people won't send that info. That information is more valuable than balances below 0.01 btc.

I agree and the site is already hacked. How sure will you be about the safety of the ID itself.

Do you want to access the service from outside india ?

Yes that is the intention.!
123  Local / India / Re: Inputs.io and Coinlenders damage on: November 08, 2013, 03:48:01 PM
Is Coinlenders offereing a way to withdraw BTC other than through Inputs?

Last time when i saw the posts, people were debating on that.
At the moment, i don't think they do.

Thanks Benson,

What are best methods to keep my wallet safe from being stolen or hacked. Though there is only little in it, I want to make sure it is safe.

Get Armory, make paper wallet out of it Smiley
bitcoinarmory.com

Regards

If that seems to painful, get a Coinbase or blockchain account and get a paper wallet from them.

Yes i agree. Blockchain.info wallet with the browser plugin is pretty secure as it has features like

1) Encrypted backups of the wallet sent to your email. Even if they go out of business tomorrow, you can import them on some other software.
2) The address you get is yours as you get access to the private key as well.
3) Lastly, they have client side encryption of your private if you are using their browser extension.

Unless you need a merchant account or you live in USA, i don't see any other benefits of having a coinbase account over blockchain.info.
125  Local / India / Re: Inputs.io and Coinlenders damage on: November 08, 2013, 12:30:19 PM
I had 0.0025 BTC there.
Any way I can get them out? The service announcement talks about balances > 1 BTC

Am sorry for your loss mate. Shoot an email to support@inputs.io
Hopefully he can help.
126  Local / Marketplace (India) / Re: Selling bitcoin on: November 08, 2013, 02:44:54 AM
Hi I am selling bitcoin in Delhi India as i am new on this forum and anyone want to trade I am ready for a personal meeting to trade bitcoin. I have as many Bitcoins as you want the rate will be the currenct price of mtgox.com X 65 INR. I am also trading my BTC with your paypal but I will do that with highly respected members only.

Welcome to the forums.

As benson mentioned, no one is going to offer you mtgox price when buying.
Secondly, where are you getting the exchange prices from.

It is Rs 4.00 INR more per dollar than the retail price (today's XE.com rate which is for banks itself is Rs 62.85. Retail prices are usually about 1.5 INR less.). That itself amounts to about Rs 1,200 more.

And secondly trading paypal for bitcoins is a bad idea. Hundreds have tried on this forums and burnt their hands. Trade with extreme caution.
Buyers can reverse paypal payment or if paypal finds out, it can freeze your account (along with the balance in it).

Edit : Added exchange rates.

I remember some posts where TF was advised not to keep heavy coinage on a hot wallet.

Hopefully the 4K was scattered across users and no single person had a heavy loss.

Astonishing thing is.. If you follow the inputs.io topic on service announcement.. He has been working on the site re-design when the hack was happening on 10/23.

He launched a new homepage design and 2FA and GPG auth on 10/24 and later.

How can you not see the wallet which holds close to a mil worth of coins atleast once a day.!
128  Local / India / Re: Inputs.io and Coinlenders damage on: November 07, 2013, 04:41:49 PM
This comes to me as a shocker. With the type of security TF had in place. The way the attack has been performed seems to me a tricky and sophisticated attack.

With the type of security TF claimed to have in place.

4100 BTC in a hot wallet, WTF?

it looks like 2011 all over again

I agree. I smell something fishy here. 4000+ in a hot wallet was a disaster waiting to happen.
I think he was waiting for this payday.! Not sure if the hack is true or not

If you like a good riddle, I suggest you read the whole thread in the main section ....just some tidbits

TF claimed  that as a precaution that even if the server is hacked there will not be much damage as cold wallet is being used

The server has hacked on 26th Oct, but the news is displayed today

One of the api user suggested to TF that inputs.io was hacked around 3 weeks back

Yes i did it for a while but then i figured that it is too good to be true.
Either he is too dumb to have all the 4000 btc under same account on the same server or he is just vacating in Cancoon laughing at people.

He claims he was in shock trying to figure out a way for 14 days so that no IO user lost coins.. Seriously, for 14 days.??
Being a forensics investigator, i know that this is another mistake.. Now all the evidence has gone with the wind.

At the least he could do was disable any deposits. There are many users who have deposited btc this week. That means that those coins are safe and they should get full refund. But that is not the case. They are also getting a partial refund. How fair is that.?

Has anyone from India got affected by Inputs.io closure and now I have read even coinlenders also has a problem.

I remember 3-6dice.com was using inputs.io , anybody else ?

I lost around 0.2 BTC, though at BTC current rates, cannot call it a small amount.

after this a lot of web wallets are going to get flagged.

pin-up-machine.com as well. Lost small bits 2 separate integrations with inputs.io.. well..

My point being, how did the hacker come to know the email address used with the hosting company.
That is kinda weird. They should have compromised the database of the hosting company as well. isn't it.?
131  Local / Marketplace (India) / Re: I need BTC for INR anyone here to sell on: November 07, 2013, 12:20:00 PM

132  Local / India / Re: iBITCOINTRADE-bitcoin exchange India on: November 06, 2013, 04:35:36 PM
Interesting.!  This week btcchina became No.1 in volume.
Hopefully you can bypass them someday..! All the best guys.!

P.S : Is there a way that you can get away from having the users to deposit payment to your account. When you start getting volumes, the banks start getting all cranky. If there is no transfer happening on the site, then why would you want them to deposit it to you rather than directly to the seller's account.
That is a overhead cost and time delay to deposit it to your account and you then transfer it to the seller.

I would suggest talk to INRBTC. He might have some ideas.!

138  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Need a PayPal refund for your BFL purchase? on: November 03, 2013, 02:13:32 PM
Am now concerned that they might show the shipping confirmation to paypal now and advise paypal to charge my card again (my card / bank account is on file with paypal) for the amount of jala.

Can they do that without my authorization.?

No, if the dispute is finished then there is nothing they can do.  They can't just ship people stuff they don't want and then charge them for it.

What they can't do legally and what occurs in reality seem far removed from each other these days.  Unless you want to deal with 25 phone calls telling BFL not to send you to collections for their mistake, just refuse the package and have it returned to shipper.

It took me a week to get them to respond to an RMA on a day 1 Single - how much time you think it would take to deal with them if you kept it?  (I would wager closer to weeks or even months).

Agreed. I don't have any intentions of keeping it. That is the reason i wanted some advise on how to handle it / send it back.
I already have close to 200 GH of hashing power and i don't think that this extra 7 gh/s wouldn't make much of a difference.

I would rather reject it than keep it and deal with them.
139  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Need a PayPal refund for your BFL purchase? on: November 02, 2013, 09:07:03 PM
If the dispute hasn't been closed/finalized then they could use your acceptance of the package to nullify your dispute.

Thanks for your reply. It has been closed. As i said, i received the refund within 16 hours of sending the email to paypal on Sep-14th.
Everything was paid using my CC though paypal.
I even withdrew that amount to my bank account over a month ago.

I applied and got my refund on Sep-14th. I was among the first few to get the refund.
Thanks to OP.

However, even after almost 2 months, i received an email from BFL that they shipped my Jala today.
Has anyone else gone through this problem.?

Will they be able to charge me again or file a exception with paypal for my refund and claim that i be charged for their product.?
Any suggestion / help will be appreciated.

Thanks,
