121  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] [CPU mining] Yenten [YTN] [Exchange avilable BTC/YTN] on: November 09, 2017, 11:06:02 PM
It's CPU-friendly coin, sounds interesting. My question is, has Yenten still been profitable for miners? If yes, I will definitely join the party. Thanks all.
my only concern with this coin is that it takes up 99% of cpu power when only the wallet is running and even when it is not syncing. is this normal? i would like to know.

Are you sure that your wallet is not mining?

I think i see what you mean. if i close minerd it still runs at 100%, but if i delete the yenten.conf and restart the wallet then it doesn't use all that cpu. thanks.

You probably had gen=1 set in the yenten.conf. This sets the wallet to automatically start mining when you open it.

As a side note, I've found that I get nearly equal hashrates running on half of available threads as running on all of them. So you may be wasting your cpu power running at 100%. In addition, the algorithm seems to rotate between threads at regular intervals when you set it this way(so for example for a 4 thread machine set to 2 threads it will run on threads 1 and 2, then 1 and 3, then 3 and 4, etc. randomly). I'm not sure if this is unique to this algorithm or is how yescrypt also works, but it's interesting.

Yeah I did have gen=1. So was my miner going slow because of that? I've been finding a lot of blocks so maybe it didn't matter.

You're right about the threads. On my i7 it looks like it maxes out at 4 threads:
1 thread = .23 khash/s
2 thread = .23 khash/s each thread, .46 khash/s total
3 thread = .17-.19 khash/s each thread .54 khash/s total
4 thread = .14-.16 khash/s each thread .6 khash/s total
5 thread = .12 khash/s each thread .6 khash/s total
6 thread = .10-.11 khash/s each thread .6 khash/s total

So what is limiting the hashrate?

the profitable equation only makes sense if a miner could sell all the mined coins on an exchange, and I don't believe there is enough volume on coinmarkets to do that. So if you mine 10k coins and you try to sell them then it certainly is not profitable because you would crash the price. That being said if you want to have10k coins then you need to mine them because there are not enough sell orders to fill your buy order, which means we're still in the stage where mining is the only way to get a large amount of coins and your "buy" price is simply the electricity price and there is no stable market price. so miners are basically speculating at this point because they'll have to hold their coins until market volume picks up.

my only concern with this coin is that it takes up 99% of cpu power when only the wallet is running and even when it is not syncing. is this normal? i would like to know.
124  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Please help with joke coins on: November 08, 2017, 06:05:07 PM
Hello. I want to write an article for my local community about different joke coins. For the moment I know only about Dogecoin and Jesuscoin. Have someone heared about any other altcoins that were made just for lulz?

yenten is named after a ponzi scheme from 2009 and its site is pretty jokey: https://conan-equal-newone.github.io/yenten/index2.html

but me and others are mining away on yenten.

i think it's important to understand that joke coins are "cringe resistant": it's hard to criticize a project that does not even take itself seriously. i would prefer to follow a technically sound joke coin than a serious coin made by a mid-level developer who thinks they are about to solve some fundamental problem that doesn't actually exist.
People like to participate in anything as long as they can get something from it. Their coin is nothing but a scam, they will be worth nothing in 10 years.

What’s a scam? flixxo?

Well, the story is : I'am too fast to add cool currency, and was thinking it is "yescrypt" at first.

The source of yiimp pool has no yescryptR16 by default, and I needed to add it... thats not an easy task.

For the japan words... do u have something against asian ppl ?

How to config my computer for mining the coin? I am newbie. thanks all for your help!

1. be a 21y or older man
2. visit https://github.com/conan-equal-newone/yenten/releases and if you are on windows and download yenten_win64_1.1.0.zip and yenten_minerd_win64.zip
3. extract yenten_win64_1.1.0.zip first and run the yenten-qt.exe then let it connect to nodes and synch and catchup. you may have to disable firewall or create an exception to get it to connect. close the wallet once it is synced.
4. go to C:\users\yourusername\appdata\roaming\yenten and create file yenten.conf and put this in it:

daemon=1
server=1
gen=1
port=9981
rpcport=9982
rpcuser=username
rpcpassword=password
Addnode=133.130.66.167:9981
Addnode=52.3.229.122:9981

still 4: to make a .conf file do Save As and click All Files in the dropdown otherwise it will save it as yenten.conf.txt which is not what you want. AppData is often hidden just google how to unhide files on windows
5. reopen yenten-qt and go to "receive" and click "request payment" and that will create a new address.
6. extract yenten_minerd_win64.zip and create a file start.bat but be sure your minerd.exe file is in that folder because most antivirus software will try to quarantine that. and in your start.bat file put:

minerd.exe -t 8 -a yescriptr16 -o localhost:9982 -u username -p password --coinbase-addr=<YourReceiveAddressFromTheWallet>
PAUSE

The "-t 8" is supposed to match how many threads your CPU has so google your cpu if you're not sure.

7. run start.bat and you'll start mining. It takes a few minutes to show anything. Most the hashes will say .03 khash/s or something super small but that's okay because you're a man remember and we're reducing asic megawaste and solving world problems here bruh
8. post a reply and say it worked so i know i didnt wast all my gd time helping a newb in as much detail as i wish someone had helped me

131  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Alternative for Trading Cards on: November 08, 2017, 12:18:46 AM
Can anyone suggest a network that could handle a tradable digital asset like a trading card? Basically an alternative to counterparty.

Im looking for a working android & iphone wallet that can display images with the assets, plus some version of an exchange on that mobile wallet, and obviously lower fees and quicker transactions than the BTC network.

I've looked at ethereum, waves, bitshares, and komodo and so far nothing fits the bill. I'm aware of cryptopunks and its just not it. Maybe I'm missing something? Is there anything on its way like ark, tau, or eos that will make this possible?

Is there a roadmap available yet for 2018? I am always lookng for a good CPU coin that is worth it. Not much info available yet for Yenten.

the ann lists a very detailed roadmap for the next several years you just need to read it carefully.

LOL that is why I was asking as mining isnt really a roadmap. Initially at launch I got the feeling it might be adult related but I could be wrong.

no you were  right it’s only for 21y or older man

have any news about new exchange?

coinmarkets works well for me. if other exchanges dont want yenten then let them sit it out and coinmarkets can benefit.

I am still mining blocks occasionally with ~500 h/s so it's definitely still possible to mine solo.

define occasionally XD?

i’ve been able to get 6 blocks a day among 3 desktops.

Nice the dude who took over 70% of the hashrate is gone!  I have an idea in the future on a cpu coin limiting the max hashrate of the network.  Does a network even really need over say 200khash to work? We could make a coin that stops giving rewards if the hashrate gets over 200khash.  Small independent miners who are spending pennies a day mining in electricity would be able to keep mining wheras big assholes and pools wouldn't be able to survive mining it...power to the little people.

I think that was a botnet as it was showing around 2000 miners and now it's just 200 so definitely it was botnet

Yup you are to the point. It really feels bad when you have little hash and people come with contract like nicehash and make sure to create hell for small miners.
For mining with CPU, a botnet is easy to implement, some hackers by controlling the personal computer, in the early stages of the hash, this kind of behavior is deadly, it left now, we are very happy.

is it common people like this guy come in as coins start and then leave?  I could imagine the CIA would use a tactic like that to 51% a coin and unnoticeably fork it to include surveillance software that reports back to them.

Earlier you said we are all wasting time minung this coin, but now your last few posts are on this thread. Can I ask you why this is the only project you are interested in? I can’t imagine you’d have this much engagement without buying/mining/holding it yourself.

I told one specific person they were wasting their time.  He probably has a $100 a day contract with amazon aws and if he tries to sell the coins he mines here he crashes the price to zero immediatly.  Obviously you didn't read my post carefully at all.

Okay i hear you i’m with you.

So let’s assume he has 30-60k coins now.

What’s the cia fear? maybe idk enough about forks but i thought the network would be able to at least be alerted to a fork if there was double spending. And i didn’t know a fork could result in a change in the coin’s core. Isn’t the software  still preserved on the original site and any malicious code would be discovered?
