121  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [65Th]Ozcoin Pooled Mining |DGM 1%|PoT 2%|Stratum+VarDiff port 80|0.01 threshold on: November 12, 2013, 08:35:36 PM
So ..for the last round my share value was 0.0000000583282956 and I had (401,302) shares … therefore (~0.023) payout.

Ozco is DGM not PPS.  The share value can only calculated after the round closes which is when a block is found.  So the longer the round, the more shares you submit and the less each share is worth.

Understood.. I have hopped… I do not enjoy this. Not enough action. I am on 3 pools already. I have generated 3 times the coin on all 3 pools in the same time frame.  Those 3 all evened out on average, even with higher fees, only 1 pool using PPS .
122  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [100 TH] Slush's Pool (mining.bitcoin.cz); TX FEES + UserDiff; ASIC tested on: November 12, 2013, 05:20:50 PM
I used to mine on slush a very long time ago... Good old days.
Too bad i can't cash out the remaining 1.6 mBTC Cheesy
Minimum is set to 0.01.

It seems a bit ridiculous that the pools don't have "empty my account" options. They probably have a lot of coin sitting there if you add up all that change from everyone on the pool.
I can understand a minimum payment for regular payouts to reduce fees and network traffic.

But how about if I haven't mined for a month? - maybe there should be some sort of auto monthly payout if you have been inactive for a long while..

Pool operators need to get more transparent and more vocal as there is a lot of money involved and people seem to have only partial ability to seek out help.

I am sure the minimum will be increased (or decreased depending how you look at it) as the price of bitcoin increases.
But I agree with your sentiments.

Anyone posting here?

So ..for the last round my share value was 0.0000000583282956 and I had (401,302) shares … therefore (~0.023) payout.

Now on this current long round I have (1,475,525) shares. … can I assume my share value will stay constant therefore having a much larger payout of (~0.086) for this long block ?

My estimated payout doesn't show this, it shows the same basic value of my previous payout. (~0.025)

Is the estimated payout accurate that is shown on the site?

Or do my shares get backlogged? keeping my per block payout somewhat consistent while paying out long after I have stopped mining or during times of less blocks?

The explanation on the DGM post is too complex, doesn't answer simple questions like this.
Please help me out before I hop.
Thanks

hi,

minepeon on my jalapeno say 6500 MH/s and slush site 568 MH/S ?

How long have you been mining? It takes a while for the server to determine your actual hashrate.
If you just started mining today/within the last hour or two - it's definitely normal. If you've been mining for a day and it still says that then I would guess you'd be getting some sort of error message in your mining software that would be very noticeable. If not then I am not sure. Have you tried using another pool just to see?

Ok this makes sense. Thx

Another question.  My "estimated" payout was much less in the end. It was up to ~0.02 during the previous long block .... In the end I was paid ~0.004 for that block. No downtime since I connected. Is this an effect of Dgm as well?

In that case I'll recoup these early losses in some manner when I stop mining here. Correct?
Thx again

It takes a while for the payout to ramp up.  So if you just started mining recently your early rewards will be low then it evens out.  So if that is the reason for the lower than expected payout then yes it will be made up later.  But bad luck does happen so that may not be the reason as well.  Just a cautionary CYA Smiley.
So then, based on that, this pool isn't a good candidate for a fall back pool? I'm thinking that a pool you can come into for a short period of time with out penalty would be the best for a fall back pool.

Indeed it seems this way, seems PPS is really the only way that you will not loose fully when not on your regular pool. But you'll loose a large percentage off the top due to higher fees so the variance may actually even out, and you still not make the same if you never had to hop pools.

With slush's system, there is some sort of importance to shares submitted just before a block is solved .. meaning you can mine for 10 hours and if no block is solved during that time, and it takes another 5 hours to solve the block, you may get next to nothing if you were only there for the first 10 hours and more for the remaining 5 hours.

PPS on Guild seems very fair and accurate but with so many users and such a high fee - its difficult to WANT to be there, even though you know you are getting your "average - 7%" no matter what. More of sure thing rather than depending on luck during that small amount of time you hop there during other pool's downtime.
127  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: BTC Guild cheating / being cheated? on: November 08, 2013, 09:25:54 PM
Here's a strange coincidence - just when transaction revenue was all time high (source: ) the BTC guild pool luck was all time low (source: )

This accounted for hundreds of BTC lost revenue for the miners.

Coincidence? What do you think?
Luck.

But why didn't I win the lottery mommy?
128  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: BTC Guild cheating / being cheated? on: November 08, 2013, 09:24:07 PM
i'm seeing weird things I don't understand myself. My 24 hour earning were .5 and soon as BTC prices increased that 24 hour earning started dropping and I have been mining there for weeks straight.

BTC prices have been increasing for the last MONTH.  Luck has been positive for almost that entire month.  You're just having selection bias that at the peak of prices (which so far are STILL going up) we happened to have a SINGLE DAY of bad luck.

But my earnings aren't increasing along with getting better luck, unless there is a catch up or lag in the system?

PPLNS is on a time delay, roughly 8 hours.  It takes 8 hours from the time a share is submitted to the time it is matured (fully paid).  Look at the chart on the PPLNS stats page and you can see its already starting to go back up.

Your 24 hour earnings will obviously not fully reflect this because the bad luck has NOT EVEN BEEN 24 HOURS.  This means right now you have *high reward* shifts rolling out of your 24 hour window (decreasing the 24-hour earnings).

Thank you. This is all new to me and I'm still learning how a pool works and why the numbers do what they do. I guess I got a little depressed when I saw a huge BTC price increase and then my pool earnings drop considerably at the same time. I never saw my earnings drop so quickly as the BTC price rose just as quick.

You gotta get it outta your head that the price of bitcoin exchange rates have anything at all to do with your rewards on your pool. Or beyond that, has anything to do with bitcoin whatsoever (other than the cerebral "wow I can pay bills with this coin" feeling)

BTCGuild is litterally the best web interface available with so many ways to view information you should really take your time to understand the dashboard and what all the 0.0000000XXX actually mean for your accumulative totals.

Furthermore - there is less variance using PPS and if you cannot get your head around making lots one day and next to nothing another day, you should just use PPS so you see your constant average build up.

Sorry to take this further but how does luck play into DGM? I assumed DGM is a form of PPS,accumulating payout by shares.. but payouts do not actually happen until a block is found, unlike other PPS where you get it as soon as your shift is done but with a bigger fee

If this were the case the "estimated payout" wouldn't ever drop by soo much (a 1/4 of initial estimated payout) unless you are saying that THAT IS the case and that once I have mined for a while I will make closer to the "estimated payout" and while the estimated payout is accumulative for the round.. Unless I have mined for a long time I won't actually get the full estimated payout. If this is true it's fine but again I don't see how luck effects this as you are still technically accumulating by share.

Thx again

So apparently it was a bug that was just fixed today. Everyones payout was effected but is now fixed (the bug, payouts were still just a 1/4 of what was expected). So I am correct with my thinking and it WAS actually a bug. Too bad it happened on my first full day with the pool. Reading back I see the pool has had some major issues recently and back in April.

From someone who uses the pool often, is the pool stable enough that you feel confidant staying here?

I am not worried about a web interface bug here and there but when payouts are affected its concerning.. also I read about the ~1000 btc stolen in April.

Are these issues rare and is the team very good at coming up with solutions, communicating with the community, and therefore curbing these issues so that the miner is not so affected individually (like .. did they pay back people who lost coins when they were hacked?)

Before committing to the pool, i'd just like a guarantee that problems are few and far between (usually). I don't love being on BTCGuild with all my miners but I have really always had the best experience there. AND they have an amazing web interface that has never bugged out on me.

Thanks yet again.

Maybe someone can explain to me because I had a feeling that I didn't understand fully.
ozcoin's DGM payout are kind of like PPS but instead you only get the actual payout when they find a block, which can be a long time with the current difficulty. But you are paid for all your shares submitted during that round. So the longer the block time the bigger my share.

But at this point I have about 37gh/s pointed to to ozcoin and I have generated about 0.014 btc in 24hrs (if there was a block found, 1 was founds since switching to the pool)
On average I should be making about about 0.034 per day (I was doing this at guild and still am, I am load balancing, pools are reporting very similar, consistent 37ghs/ reading)

Although you wait a lot longer for blocks on this pool, I assumed with the DGM payout and lower pool fee it would actually result in ever so slightly more than than my btcguild average.
So far I am at half I would have been if I had just stayed on guild.

I am donating 3 % (1% standard + 2% vip donation) at guild it is 7.5%

Please help explain if I have things all wrong.

Thanks

Does no one want to come and admit that they did not receive all these items they are saying they were waiting for?

If you got scammed by these guys. Be clear and say "I paid and never received my item. They did not give a reason, they took the money and stopped communicating"

This is the way we will be able to KNOW not to order these products.
134  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Everything working smoothly after your free update to OSX Mavericks today? on: October 28, 2013, 03:03:44 PM
Guess I won't update until I know Multibit is working as I use it quite a bit on my macbook as a convenient way to get a couple of coins around with me.
Its a nice alternative to bitcoin qt which always freezes my system when trying to download the blockchain.
(I've never been able to run the official bitcoin application on my macbook, on my windows PC, any info on that?)

So, does MacMiner run without a hitch on Mavericks? I don't want to upgrade until I know forsure. Its my only essential app:)
Hehe that's nice to hear! I upgraded a MBP and MacMiner 1.4.16 is running fine

However, there's a problem witih 1.4.16 (or more specifically bfgminer 3.3.0) which prevents GPU mining - this is on any OS release and cgminer still works for the GPU, so I'll be asking luke-jr about this and hopefully it'll be sorted out soon - anyone who wants it can get 1.4.15 here:

http://fabulouspanda.co.uk/macminer/downloads/MacMiner.app-1.4.15.zip

1.4.16 is still recommended for FPGA/ASIC mining

ASIC here so all fine. I'll upgrade tomorrow .. Seems no major bugs are reported for my hardware ...
I'm on a Mac Pro so I'll let you know if there's any problems !

you can split it in 2 units , oc to  370 -375 with no hw modification is possible
I`ve splinted 2x3 modules units in 3x2 modules at about 60gh  unit  with speed from 365 up to 375 , found out that if you do not connect them to port 1 has better speed and lower hw

But more of an undertaking than I would want to bother with right now but does seem a good way to get best results. Maybe once I'm mining only a few mbtc per day...

Using a 1200w PSU I am successfully running at 350mhs

What is the max that someone has seen running at 1200w? 375mhs? Had the PSU already so it just made sense.

This is a 4 module system purchased recently.

Your only getting 350MH/s or are running at 350Mhz?

I get 107GH/s at 335Mhz using 860w PSUs. I just don't see any reason to install a 1200w to go higher unless your not paying for power! Smiley

Sorry you are correct, using 350mhz. I am gettting ~110ghs...I am using the 1200w because I already had it and ya I don't pay for power it is a set fee in my rent.

I'd love to see this thing hit 115-120gh/s

Also, just to note, I've noticed overclocking to 375mhz actually seems to reduce my overall hash rate. I've read this is a possibility but I was wondering why.

I really love this piece of hardware, its very interesting, educational and fun to mess with. Also, I should get a good amount of my money back overtime since I paid with USD for it.

Someone here told me it really wasn't worth the effort or cost to OC the Avalon 4 module past 107GH/s as you get so little reward for doing it. So I have never brothered. But if you really want 120GH/s buy two Avalon Mini's! Smiley

Ok. I really don't love it when I ask a question some tells me it's not worth it since it would be impossible for you to know what is worth what in my world. I don't pay for electricity, I have a 1200w psu already just sitting around. So you are telling me that getting an extra 10gh/s isn't worth opening my avalon and plugging in a psu, and then adjusting a single setting on the machine?

I am asking for help, details not opinion. Not trying to be a prick but really it's a common issue on these forums.

Here's the question . Why is it that I get less hashrate when set to 375? 350 seems the level off number.
The machine is already running at 350 overclocked with the psu already installed (1200w corsair ax series)
