121  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: egifter accepting bitcoin is HUGE, why no uproar? on: October 19, 2013, 10:36:39 PM
I don't think of it as a bubble really .
In all forex markets we see the same type of movements when news is released .
We always get A to B leg up

say $110 to $177 but inevitably in a healthy price rise we will have pull backs averaging 50% .

So if your looking to get in, look at around  the $144 ish level to be buying .

The news affecting bitcoins price rise is not speculative news or manipulated figures  ,it is solid and reliable so it makes sense to me that the value of bitcoin would rise .

So for speculative buyers I would say never buy highs wait for a healthy pull back .

Gold is a great example ,the rise to $1,800 ish and now around $1300 ,is gold crashing ,hell no ,but its a healthy pull back for those who know the real value of gold .

Gold and silver are great buys at the moment .

If you are thinking short term profits then $144 buy, but in the longer term  I think you will be talking four  digits per coin.

Chargeback incoming lol.
123  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: egifter accepting bitcoin is HUGE, why no uproar? on: October 19, 2013, 06:04:45 AM
I Don't see much in the forum about the multi billion pound chinese firm accepting bitcoin or about e-gifter a walmart .
But the bitcoin markets are definitely shouting about it $177:00 per bitcoin from £110:00 in a week is serious price movement .
I posted couple of ees ago that when we broke $150 that $170 ish would come quickly but I honestly never meant this quickly .I was thinking more in terms of months ,quick not days/a week .

If anyone was thinking of trading in bitcoin ,now I would use the previous $150 ish level to buy and be selling at $170 ish ,kinda start buying in at a sell off Entering at $160 and adding below that level ,then unwinding at $170 ish .

Buy when price is going down ,sell when it is going up.
Unfortunately human nature is to do the exact opposite .

Warren Buffet said something to this effect and I have never forgot it .

124  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Anyway to Pay With BTC Through eBay? on: October 18, 2013, 07:30:43 AM
If you put your items in the test auction category and follow the formatting guidelines, you can sell for BTC on eBay.

http://pages.ebay.com/help/policies/listing-no-item.html

Quote from: Test listings
A test listing can come in handy if you want to check your listing before posting it for everyone to see. However, to make sure people don't confuse them with actual listings, certain conditions need to be met (see below). Also, standard listing fees apply for test listings.

For test listings, be sure to follow all of these guidelines:

Use the Everything Else > Test Auctions category only.

The word "test" has to appear in both the listing title and the listing description.

Have only 10 test listings at a time.

For test Feedback left or received for a test listing, follow all of these guidelines:

Create an account that you can use to leave or receive Feedback for a test listing. Don't use the account you have for buying or selling. If we see an account that breaks this rule, that account may be subject to suspension.

Make sure the test Feedback is used for testing purposes only. (If something looks amiss, we may remove test Feedback to avoid problems.)

The word "test" has to appear in the listing title and the description.
Hey thank you I had no idea that existed ,pity customer support knew nothing about that either ,or maybe they could have saved me 33 minutes of time .

Edit ,I thought 0845 numbers were dear but Sky.com have free calls to 0845 numbers here in UK.
125  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Anyway to Pay With BTC Through eBay? on: October 17, 2013, 08:17:25 PM
You can accept BTC through eBay as long as you also accept Paypal or other eBay-approved methods without prejudice.  Of course, that probably doesn't do much good because most eBay buyers will use Paypal.

Do not even mention bitcoin on e-bay ,you account will be flagged and you will have your items removed for various breaches ,I personally got my items re-instated once I removed the word bitcoin accepted from my sale items .

Even my listings that did not mention bitcoin got taken down in the rush to get my listing off e-bay.
I got an apology from them saying some of my items were taken down by mistake but none of the listing containing the word bitcoin were re-instated .

Took me 2 weeks to sell some oil on e-bay ,it normally takes 3 days to sell .
I can only comment on my experience .
If you contact customer services you talk to filipino people that do not understand English ,I spent 33 minutes and was passed from 7 different specialists before being told there was nothing they could do for me  to get my listing up again .
126  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Easiest way to get btc? on: October 17, 2013, 12:56:22 AM
Ok so I know using CC and paypal are no no's for sellers because of scammers.

So what about for us new/low feedback people? Is moneypak/sending it first the easiest and no hassle way to deal with another member (that's trustworthy)?

How does moneypak work anyways? I know I buy a $5 card thing, put money in it and how do I send it to the seller? What are the ways to help ensure I don't get scammed?

coinbase.com would be best right now....

Not if you do not live in USA.
127  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Main factors influencing the price of Bitcoin? on: October 17, 2013, 12:48:25 AM
We had news today that a temporary resolution to the USA debt ceiling issue is going to be passed and we see a sell off to The $144 area ,maybe this affected bitcoin price .
Earlier this week  was news that a substansial $53 billion dollar Chinese company has started  accepting bitcoin may be this also helped fuel bitcoin price .
It seems any large companies coming on board affect price .
Any doubts over various sovereign currency stability all push up price .
128  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Main factors influencing the price of Bitcoin? on: October 16, 2013, 10:03:03 PM
It seems to me that increasing numbers of people are learning about bitcoin and giving it a try.  As barriers to entry fall (it is still relatively difficult to obtain a bitcoin) demand will continue to outstrip supply.

I totally agree ,currently to obtain bitcoin through the various exchanges you need to use iban /swift /bics which is an international banking system ,you have to verify your bank account .
The average person in the street just will not bother unless this is overcome .
The atm machines could bridge this gap bu they would need to be implemented on mass .
One thing that would entice people to want bitcoins is if merchant offer goods cheaper through bitcoin than fiat .

If we had say an amazon type site with comparison items showing them being cheaper in bitcoin than fiat then people will be given an  incentive to purchase bitcoin.
129  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Main factors influencing the price of Bitcoin? on: October 16, 2013, 08:49:55 PM
Humans have proven to be untrustworthy to self regulate sovereign currency .

Humans regulate bitcoin too.
Or maybe we already reached singularity (Skynet posting messages to internet forums  Grin )

We have humans overseeing and maintaining the cryptocurrency system .
They have no control on bitcoin price

Human do not regulate bitcoin price .
Humans cannot print more bitcoin at will .
Humans therefore cannot weaken the value of bitcoin by printing infinite amounts and putting them into circulation .

Gold used to regulate fiat price .
The people using bitcoin and the limited amount to be introduced into circulation regulate bitcoin price .
Bitcoin takes out the human corruption seen in the highly manipulated fiat currencies.

130  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Main factors influencing the price of Bitcoin? on: October 15, 2013, 11:13:38 PM
Your comments are very interesting.
I wonder if you guys have an insight on the "fixed" factors that influence price, apart from what is making it change right now? I am more interested in those...

Bitcoins only fixed factors currently are the amount of coins being created to the amount of people feeling the need to own them .

Bitcoin only has less than 1% of the current financial market , fiat forex markets are basically governed by commodities and political policies none of which apply to bitcoin.

Think of bitcoin as a protection mechanism .
Fiat has been devalued by governments a lot since 1971 ,when the dollar and gbp got detached from the commodity Gold ,this allowed the current state of print you way out of debt .

Gold was the only thing that stopped governments printing there way out of debt and burdening the citizens will weaker currency.
Humans have proven to be untrustworthy to self regulate sovereign currency .

Crypto currency brings back control of financial instruments by having limited supply the same roll gold used to play and taking control from governments who have proven historically to burden their citizens with the un-necessary debts for wars .

Fiat has always ended badly historically ,the reason you should be in crypto is that at some point your fiat will be de-valued typically by 30% ish ,instantly making the crypto you own 30%ish more valuable ,while making anyone holding fiat 30% worse off.

Cyprus took bitcoin to $270 and that is a very small economy image what would happen if a reasonable size economy was to default .

The Uk de-valued it's currency against the dollar by 100% to pay debts ,governments just stick that burden on their citizens they never actuallly pay anything off .

131  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Main factors influencing the price of Bitcoin? on: October 14, 2013, 07:16:41 PM
The US potential to default in 3 days would be a good explanation for the current push .

We are seeing resistance at $150 but that level is also an psycological level ,$145 has been tested more than 3 times previously and it was breached without much resistance this time ,a clear break through $150 will very likely see $170 come very quickly so that the £140's could become our buy areas .

Keep an eye on The USA I think a lot of powerful people could become attracted to bitcoin since russia and china's currency have issues replacing the dollar ,bitcoin could be seen as a safe haven for now .

China ,Russia and australia are all seeking to trade oil in an alternative currency .

Oil is the blood of the financial world ,it is currently traded in dollar and affects the global economy ,the major financial players are getting scared ,but all believe a solution will be found ,it was a few years ago when the debt ceiling was an issue but who can be certain this time ?

Traders do not wait for things to happen they normally get info and react before the rest of us know whats happening ..

If the dirt hits the fan Bitcoin could very quickly escalate to make $150 a distant memory .

The check boxes still do not save .

This is for multi core pc ,I have q6600 with 4 cores .

But,I seem to have made the performance of bitminter far more responsive and generally my computer loads things faster .

I have not read this info here so I will tell you what I did .

1) Right click on taskbar at bottom of desktop screen .

2) Click taskmanager .

3) Click tab called processes.

4) click on Image name ( this stops the processes moving up and down fast so you can click em )

5)right click bitcoin-qt.exe

6) click "set affinity" uncheck cpu 0 and cpu 1 ( these are the ones that are most used by my system )

7) clicked on javaw.exe and set affinity uncheck cpu o and cpu1.

8)also did it for bitguard.exe.

Basically my system uses the first 2 cores as priority so by limiting some programs to only the second 2 cores it allows my system to run on first two while things like java and bitcoin and what ever else we have running extra to focus on the generally unused no 3 and four cores .

My system was taking forever to startup due to bitcoin-qt dominating cores 1 and 2 ,now they run on 3 and 4 was boot up is back to what it used to be .

Hope this does the same for others .

I don't think very many people are still CPU mining but this is a helpful tip for any processor intensive programs that might be affecting performance.

I myself am not cpu mining I have asic usb's , the bitcoin client  sucks up your cpu power especially on startup and this will slow load times for everything else you attempt to do .
Most of my processes use cores 1 &2 while 3& 4 are not used much at all . Limiting  java and the bitcoin client to cores 3 and 4 allow my system to run smoothly .

I agree ,I'am running vista and the Bitminter client does not reconnect after the smallest of disruptions.

Try the latest version (1.4.2) and go "settings" -> "options..." then the "devices" tab. Set it to rescan every few seconds or minutes, and turn on "repeat rescan of failed ports". This will ensure that even though the hub or ASIC device doesn't work properly for a while after it disappears and reappears, BitMinter client will not give up after the first try, but will keep trying all COM ports over and over.

That's not on by default as all the error messages you would get if you have a COM port that is not an ASIC device are pretty annoying.

I see, its just that vista is pretty known to have lots of problems. I am a Mac user so I am not sure of the details but I've heard that XP is a much more stable environment and that vista was the worst ever released. Not sure about Win 7 & 8 in general but I know some people are working on those without issue and i've never met anyone running vista before.

Just a tid bit.. but maybe you're right that the client should run on ANY computer since its java based, vista not being an exception. Maybe the Doc has some better advice.

Bitminter is rock steady on Windows 7 for me.
I can't vouch for 8, but 7 is a big improvement on XP and Vista all round IMO.

Think I will go for win 7 ty

On release vista was a mess granted ,since the patches the comparisons to win7 for performance is more or less on par so since I'am familiar with the interface I just did not see a need to buy or use win7 or 8 .
If someone points out that vista is causing any issues or win7 or 8 is superior then I am able to upgrade .
It iss just a pain in the ass getting used to a new os.

One other reason for not wanting to have windows 8 is that there was an official recommendation to some users not to upgrade since there is a built in monitoring or back door type deal with it .
If I can find the information I will post it here ,but Bitcoin is about keeping private and windows 8 about making you 100% public .

NSA Backdoor Exploit in Windows 8 Uncovered

In any event, I'm wanting to run my devices on a Linux device now, not just due to Microsoft's infamy in this arena, but because that's what it seems like most bitcoin developers are familiar with. (Namecoin-Qt doesn't even have a Mac binary yet....)

I'am going to research linux For my mining rig thank you for the suggestion .
Is there an easy way to get started with linux or is it just google the info?

http://rt.com/news/windows-8-nsa-germany-862/

I Know my vista has remote access, but I have control and can overide remote access by microsoft if I wish .

The newer platforms have no such feature making it impossible to stop big brother controlling what features or content I use .
Basically I will be allowed to use what the government feel I should use .
Personally the new technology is about zero personal privacy .

May be some one could suggest a suitable secure os for bitcoin ?

Is there a 32bit driver for asicminer usb's .335ghs.

Trying the 1.4.2 version on a 32 bit vista laptop bit cannot get the client to mine at all .

It found com4 then said tuning miner but not hashing happens .

do not know how to add screenshot in this forum .

I had this problem on my Lenovo X61 running XP, it wasn't until I upgraded to Windows 8.1 did the com4 issue go away, but I had to stop busing the bitminter software as I found it wouldn't reconnect if a hub disconnected so I started to use bfgminer which reconnects is something disconnects. Smiley

I agree ,I'am running vista and the Bitminter client does not reconnect after the smallest of disruptions.
