I am not surprised they are having some issues, I doubt it will be a long term issue as they should be able to fix the problem/s.

Two thoughts:
What would Satoshi think of sidechains?
(Hint: I suspect he likes them ... )
What if someone(s) involved with Blockstream is Satoshi?
Now it is all out in the open, like the source code, which for sidechains, does not even exist yet.
Cool a speculation thread with people talking about SC, I read the paper the other day and almost cried. This is truly a thing of beauty, I remember writing on my notes: 21Million BTC | ∞ SC Assets Alot of smart people working on that team/with, likely he has been involved at some stage unbeknownst to all or most.

One thing that catches my attention is the answer on hard fork. According to him it will be early next year so it will be exciting to see what would happen from here
I did think that was pretty interesting, looking at the larger picture this next year should be fun. What I thought was interesting was when he said, "I think everybody should switch to talking in "bits" (millionths of a bitcoin)" - Gavin Andresen I feel like it might take along time to get everyone to start using "bits" denomination, alot of different wallet developers etc. Their have been numerous discussions on this board about it in the past, logically it makes sense but I cant see something like this happening anytime soon.

Cool thanks for posting this, it is probably better formatting than the actual Reddit ama (Which was pretty long scroll). It was cool to see so many questions get asked/answered cool, thanks for sharing ... I read the coindesk article I don't understand redditese
hah I figure it would be more palatable than the actual reddit page

I recently started with bitcoin & I like it learning each day something new about it . I want to know if I should continue with this nice cryptoo currency or just drop it ? Did I missed the bitcoin train ? or it's not too late for it I would say that what you say is far from the truth, if you research further your own knowledge will prove otherwise. However I will warn you that after ~1.5 years poking around this space I still learn new stuff and their is an overwhelming amount to learn, Bitcoin can take alot of time and energy from you if you let it.

Well you have 0 (!) knowledge. This is supposed to mean that you've just downloaded the block that was mined 5 years and 28 weeks ago, not that it will take that amount of time to sync. Syncing should take around a day at most. You could also download the files from a torrent.
This, it won't take you longer than a a few days to a full new node setup. This is just saying your 5.5 years behind on your blockdata, you can process several days worth of blocks quickly. It wont take you more than 3-5 Days on a slow connection This was the genesis blocks timestamp ~ 5 Years ago - "time":"2009-01-09T02:54:25Z" Janurary 9th, 2009 was the first block

Offline armory, that's the way to go.
This and make sure to create backups of your keys, also don't put all your eggs in one basket. You might want to split your coins up over 2-4 wallets.

Does anyone know something about this? If you can and how to invest? Is it through ASX? If so, how? What do you think about this?
Never heard of this at all. If I was you, I would invest money into Bitcoin directly yourself. Learn how to acquire coins from an exchange then learn how too safely store it offline.

gleb AKA phinn..
the newsweeklied website is using a picture of dorian taken from the day andreas went to dorians house in march..... look at the shirt in the picture then watch the video......
nothing on the website shows categoric proof that dorian has decided to jump back into the limelight and face more media attention
dont donate to the address on the newsweeklied website, id trust andreas to manage the fund far far far before that newsweeklied website. especially when the contact address to post cheques to the newseeklied fund is a residential address, not an office address.
be careful guys
This, also I saw Andreas not personally endorsing this on Twitter this morning I believe. https://twitter.com/aantonop/status/521852666511904768Not saying don't donate but just be forewarned

Many may not be aware of Automated Transactions or AT ( http://ciyam.org/at) but it is a "Turing complete" VM for transactions that can have "state" and perform "other transactions in a trustless and deterministic manner". It was developed by myself in C++ and at least one Java version of it will be launched this week in a "testnet". What it does is basically the same as Ethereum *except* that AT has been designed to be added to *any blockchain system*. This means that the idea of "atomic cross-chain transfers" (that people may have heard about) would not only be possible between Bitcoin/Litecoin clones but *any blockchain*. AT is open source (MIT License) and has been very thoroughly tested (every op code has unit tests - around 6 months of work by three people was put into doing this). Nice work, this project looks awesome! It was helpful for me too look at some of the Use Cases you implemented, can't wait too see where this goes.

the topic title is pure FUD or OP is severely mistaken. Counterparty devs never issued this warning, from the looks of things it was a random person that dropped into their IRC channel.
More likely than not this is the case, however. It would be nice to see some concrete information one way or another.

I have used Bitcoin Checker on android and it works very well. On iOS I have used Space Cash: https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/space-cash-bitcoin-altcoin/id789603623?mt=8 this is pretty good however for some altcoins it automatically rounds single Litoshi's to .000000010 which is annoying for looking at currencies that trade in single digit litoshis - yeah I know some of the altcoins I acquired really suck... Atleast they are not trading for single xpm parts.

So I want to try and find some long term cloud mining contracts or indefinite shares in the stuff but it's become quite difficult for me because almost all of them seem to be either quite scammy or at the very least have a lot of suspicion around them. Does anybody actually know any services they'd vouch for? Also, I'll know if you're trying to affiliate spam so don't even bother.
I'm trying to find some passive investments but it seems to be quite difficult seeing as how the more you look at this kind of stuff the more suspicious a lot of these things get.
The only cloud mining worth doing is if you setup some new miners at a buddies place, typically you will never break even when trying to use the cloud hardware to mine coins, unless the coin gets hot after you mined a ton. Otherwise the company "hosting" the asics would just be running the machines to harvest coins if it were profitable. The only profits they can really derive from having the machines is to sell it to other people to use, because using it will not be profitable. In my mind its a service for lazy people who are gullible, your better off buying Bitcoin and going to an exchange more often than not also you get all your coins up front. Edit: Clarity

This is going to be torrented within minutes.
They should release it as a torrent with a QRcode at the end of the film for donations. They'd probably get a lot more in the long run
I'll buy a copy and watch it on Friday when I have time, albeit a shame that the movie will be torrented. However I think a ton of Bitcoiners can spare 13 dollars to watch the movie and will make sure too share it with others.

This one's for the Buyers: Was lucky enough to pick up some sub$300 coin the other night - Got more funds on way to exchange, whatever I pick up when credited is cool (equivalent Fiat) but always nice to increase BTC holdings Sold another bunch at an average price of ~$450 day after the man bear whale action, so would be great to pick up for anything under that (sweet margin hey ) Anyway - would love to pick up next in the $300-350 range, but who here thinks that's not gonna happen? I expect, given the current uptrend, it'll be closer to $450 that I buy back which means I don't make any extra BTC on this swing - lol Get funded maybe Tomorrow or Monday, be great to hear what you guys think! Personally I think you missed the boat for 300-350, However I feel like it might dip down to 350 briefly for a "bit" so get ready. - All speculation, based on this trend the past 2 days it could be 450 by the end of tomorrow.

For history and conceptual understanding of Ciphers throughout time the Book written By:Simon Singh - The Code Book - Goes from Caesar Cipher -> Modern Cryptography. Explains each cipher and how it can be deciphered/who did it. The free courses at Khanacademy are pretty nice: https://www.khanacademy.org/computing/computer-science/cryptographyFor applied uses of cryptography look at - Applied Cryptography, Second Edition Protocols, Algorthms, and Source Code in C - Bruce Schneier which was in your list, also I think their is a good book using Python can't recall it. If anyone has more recommendations particularly books using Python

Two New York-based Venezuelan brothers hope this week to start trading on the first bitcoin exchange in the socialist-run country, which already has at least several hundred bitcoin enthusiasts. Due to currency controls introduced by late president Hugo Chavez a decade ago, acquiring hard currency now means either requesting it from the state, which struggles to satisfy demand, or tapping a shadowy black market. Even small dollar transactions are out of the question for most Venezuelans. "Bitcoin is a way of rebelling against the system," said one bitcoin trader, Caracas-based software developer John Villar, 32, who discovered the usefulness of bitcoin when he wanted to buy a $10 cellphone battery on Amazon.
Unable to pay for it in dollars, he bought bitcoin off a friend using local currency. He then used the bitcoin to purchase an Amazon gift certificate, with which he bought the battery. http://www.reuters.com/article/2014/10/08/us-venezuela-bitcoin-idUSKCN0HX11O20141008Very insightful information, thank-you for taking the time to share this. I find this to be an interesting example of how people will solve their problems regardless of situation. People are pretty resilient when it comes to finding solutions, let us hope more turn to Bitcoin as the solution for a variety of financial issues.
