121  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Google Glass and Bitcoin payments, Eaze. on: February 26, 2014, 06:24:16 PM
At first I saw this and thought you'd be accidentally paying people left, right & centre but I guess if you have to have the QR code directly in front of your face for it to work then it seems like a pretty good idea.

Didn't watch the video, but, if you're walking and look at a QR code in the window of a shop? Bobbing = emulate a "yes".
122  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: selling keys on: February 26, 2014, 05:51:27 PM

15 minutes till there office opens. got this shit on speeddial

Can you report your findings here young padawan

its backup.

shit that was quick.

If it really was just a database down/crashed, as the error suggested, it'd be as simple as restarting the service, one or two lines into a terminal and tuh-duh.
124  Economy / Securities / Re: HavelockInvestments.com DOWN on: February 26, 2014, 12:23:04 PM
Sounds like these companies should hire all you guys to do 24/7 monitoring. What are your rates? Do you offer social integration?

This company holds multiple millions of customer dollars, don't be so complacent. I'm fairly sure Havelock can afford to have one guy sit a night shift and alert who ever is needed if something goes wrong, and then post regular updates as things progress. It is actually bewilderingly simple.

>One guy sit on a night shift

I believe data centers already do this free-of-charge (Haha, free, more like 'included in other fees') due to the security of the hardware and data on them. Anyway, it wouldn't be a guard/guy walking around doing it, it'd be a computer program (on a server else-where) checking in every five minutes or so, checking all the common things, site, database, uptime, speed, users, balance, temperatures, ssh sessions, etc...

browsing securities section since few months but not heard of havelock  Shocked

Don't browse security section. Ever. I browse the new posts thingy at the top left, click what seems interesting.
125  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Is the private key really all that I need? on: February 26, 2014, 12:09:59 PM
Yes, that's all you'd need, but, here's the thing that catches most people because they don't realize how Bitcoins work, first of all, a tl;dr, "When you spend any amount of money, the money will probably no longer be in the same address".

Longer version:-
It's impossible to spend less than the amount you received in a previous transaction, but, obviously, the majority of the time you won't want to spend the exact amount of a TXIN (or multiple ones combined), so, what do you do? You send the amount you want to spend to the receiver, then, you send the remainder ('change') back to yourself, normally, on a different address, meaning the private key for the last address is now worthless.

Personally, I recommend Armory (Or any other client that uses a pre-saved seed to generate keys), as, it fights this by using a seed which you print off to generate all addresses, this means even if you receive money on an address after paying, or, send change to a new address, that printed wallet two-line long string still saves all your funds.

EDIT:- I'd just like to point out I've never used Electrum, so, if Electrum also used a pre-saved seed, just back that up (And any other required info) and you're good. This is what the Armory .pdf (you print) looks like:-

They're probably all asleep still.
That is poor management then, site should be monitored 24hr/day, they should get service like serviceuptime.

I've never heard of this site before this thread, but, paying employees to be on-call 24/7 isn't cheap, even if they're not required 99.99% of the time.

Not sure how large this company is, and, if they can afford that, but, I personally understand. Give them twenty four hours, I'd say.

Thief, but, I don't agree with defining hackers and thieves.
"Unauthorized crackers" sounds too much like White people in Detroit.

Go with "Blackhats" or something then.
128  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: A Small Idea : a digital currency unit on: February 24, 2014, 10:27:35 AM
Like i've read in a french article, a journalist tried to buy something in a bakery "accepting Bitecoins". But the baker had stopped to took Bitcoins, because he thought he couldn't keep with the pace of this currency.

Okay, look right here:-
1. To accept bitcoins, practically, you need a computer (else, lots and lots of maths that'll take days/weeks to do)
2. You need an internet connection (To check you actually got the coins)

So, why not just have the computer automagically get the current price in bitcoins per transaction? It's what I do for my services.
129  Bitcoin / Armory / Re: [ANN] ArmoryGuide.com - Simplifying Armory Setup on: February 24, 2014, 09:48:00 AM

Your blur is pretty poor on step #5.

Also, I'd recommend turning the default fee down from 0.0005 to 0.0001.

Cause its just 2 euros. And a list would be to long.

Because it honestly sounds like you're trying to recover our accounts.

>Contact steam in 3 months
"Oh, I'm sorry, I forgot my username, and, password, but, I have this CD key I used ~ 3 months ago"
I'm not even asking for your steam name..thats just bullshit

You don't need a steam name, literally the only thing required to recover a steam account is a CD key activated "Some time". Believe me, I've done it before for a friend who hadn't used his steam account in years, completely forgot all info, but, found the old CS:S CD box with the CD key. Contact steam, was like "Yo, don't know user/pass/email/anything, but, here's the CD key", they reset my (His) email, and, password.
132  Economy / Marketplace / Re: Pi-Wallet sold out? How to get a good Cold storage? on: February 24, 2014, 08:26:37 AM
How on earth is pi wallet allowed to be sold? It's just Armory:-
Code:
The image contains raspbian and a compiled and working version of Armory. It has been optimized for working on the raspberry Pi model B so if you don't have this gadget yet you might want to consider buying the Hardware version.

And you're charging 30 euros for it? Do you even donate anything to the Armory developers?

Well you can say that Pi wallet is only rasp + armory.
But the fact is that is more than only this.
It has 2 cards to store data and other features...

Maybe op should write here differences please.

Read the quote, they're (you're?) selling a .img of a SD card with simply an 'optimized' version of Armory.

I'm not tech savy so i didn't understand much of what you said, but i lost some btcs there, so i'd like to know what's up.

What's up? In theory he could have influenced the numbers that come up to be in a less-than-random (But still not chosen) order, as, he provides two of the three parts of a hash, and, the third part is simply an incrementing number, something that you could easily test with.

He still couldn't force you to bed more than/less than, or, what percentage, so, the best he could do is profile your betting procedure to guess how you bet, then attempt to test a bunch of hashes until they are ordered in the way that profiles you.

tl;dr no, he probably didn't steal from you, but, it is an issue to be concerned with, assuming I'm understanding this correctly (I believe I'm understanding the issue correctly, but, maybe not the repercussions)
136  Economy / Gambling / Re: Just-Dice is not provably fair to gamblers on: February 23, 2014, 05:12:09 PM
how could it be changed to be provably fair to gamblers?

Generate client seed client-sidedly.
137  Bitcoin / Armory / Re: Problem with Armory client installation on offline computer on: February 23, 2014, 09:00:10 AM
So, double clicking does nothing?

Open up a terminal, cd to the directory, and, launch it using:-
Code:
./Install_DoubleClick_RunInTerminal.sh

Tell me if you get any errors.

140  Bitcoin / Armory / Backing up & Restoring transaction/address comments? on: February 22, 2014, 11:33:13 AM
I use Armory to comment all of my transactions, and, honestly, without it (I.E. if it got corrupted) I'd be fucked, I'd have no idea what was for what (And thus cause privacy, and other, issues for myself).

Due to my concern, I wish to be able to backup and restore my transaction and address comments, I understand I can use the "Export transactions" option to export my transactions, which, includes my notes, but, there's no way to reimport them (Either on another computer, or, in the case of a reinstall/corruption of Armory/operating system, the same computer). So, basically my post is for a feature request to be able to import and export of comments (And preferably also a CLI option to do this, so I can script a dump every week or something).

Yes, I realize that the specifications are public (Click me), and, I could implement something to parse them myself (Which, I probably will do a bit later), but, I still will only be extracting the transactions, importing them back in will probably require me to actually learn the qwerks of the wallet format.

EDIT:- Also, what'd be really cool, but, probably require a bit more work than really is required, is that users could run their own open source server just for their computers, and, whenever you mark a transaction's comment, it's synced with the server. Whenever another one of your computers hops on, it can grab all the transaction comments from there, so, where ever you are (Assuming you're using Armory), you could work out what is for what.
