122  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What should I do to get bitcoins? on: February 04, 2018, 11:00:08 AM
In my opinion, the best and easiest way to earn Bitcoins is to accept them as a means of payment. If you have a small business, the integration is done quickly and easily. No matter if you have a brick and mortar shop or an online business, no matter if you sell goods or services. You just have to complete the following three steps:

Get a free online Bitcoin wallet from Coinbase. If you're not sure what a Bitcoin wallet is, check out my What is Bitcoin section. There are also many other providers apart from Coinbase. When you sign up with LocalBitcoins you will also get a free bitcoin wallet with a broad range of functions. Find out which works best for you. And remember, no wallet is absolutely safe, so be careful with your money. Especially make sure you keep your Bitcoins stored safely in at least 2 or 3 different places.

Display a QR-code with your Bitcoin address next to your cash register. There are two options here.
When you have your wallet, go to a section that says 'Receive Money' or 'Add funds' or something similar. There will usually be a QR-code that has your Bitcoin address encoded in it. Print out the image with the QR-code and place it next to your cash register. Your customers will typically have a Bitcoin app installed on their smartphone where they can enter the value of the purchase in USD or EUR. Their app calculates the corresponding Bitcoin value. It automatically takes the current exchange rate to get the right amount. On your wallet account you can check the confirmation of your incoming payment.
Some wallets offer a 'Receive Money' functionality. When you earn Bitcoins by accepting them as a payment method on a more regular basis it comes in handy when you use a button called 'Create Payment Request'. Here you enter the Bitcoin amount the customer has to pay and it will show the corresponding QR-code automatically. This way the customer doesn't need to enter an amount which makes the payment for them more convenient. For this method you need to calculate the Bitcoin amount from your USD or EUR price before you can enter it for the QR-code to generate.

Display the 'Bitcoin accepted here' logo at the entrance to your shop to show everybody your innovative payment integration. You will find a printable version of the logo plus a free guide under Downloads.

That's it. It's so easy, start to earn Bitcoins by selling goods and services today! This is just a quick description how to earn Bitcoins by accepting them as a means of payment. These links are also helpful:

How to accept Bitcoin, for small businesses includes more info for online businesses
The Bitcoin Wiki Trade page shows you which other businesses already accept Bitcoin. Add your shop here to get more publicity
Coinmap is an OpenStreetMap where you can see the geographical distribution of Bitcoin accepting businesses. Add your shop here as well
There are many other lists and indexes where you can add your shop. I find the two mentioned ones to work best so far. If you have one that you think is really good and complete, contact me. I will be happy to add other links here.
123  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What if, we advertise bitcoin on T.V.? on: February 04, 2018, 10:32:37 AM
I honestly don’t know who will do that? If bitcoin was run by one individual then I could see this happening, but it’s decentralized so who is going to advertise it? And, how it is going to benefit any individual? So, it clearly is not happening UNLESS government gets involved. But yes, I think this might be solid option for upcoming ICOs because they could gain attention. Right now, I have invested in Upfiring, so advertisement as such for them will be great not for something like Bitcoin or even Ethereum.

124  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The advantages of bitcoin on: February 04, 2018, 09:57:19 AM
The following are some of the major advantages of using Bitcoin versus other currency systems:

No Third-Party Seizure
Since there are multiple redundant copies of the transactions database, no one can seize bitcoins. The most someone can do is force the user, by other means, to send the the bitcoins to someone else. This means that governments can’t freeze someone’s wealth, and thus users of Bitcoins will have complete freedom to do anything they want with their money.

No Taxes

There is no way for a third party to intercept transactions of Bitcoins, and therefore there is no viable way to implement a Bitcoin taxation system. The only way to pay a tax would be, if someone voluntarily sends a percentage of the amount being sent as tax.

No Tracking
Unless users publicize their wallet addresses publicly, no one can trace transactions back to them. No one, other than the wallet owners, will know how many Bitcoins they have. Even if the wallet address was publicized, a new wallet address can be easily generated. This greatly increases privacy when compared to traditional currency systems, where third parties potentially have access to personal financial data.

No Transaction Costs
Sending and receiving Bitcoins requires users to keep the Bitcoin client running and connected to other nodes. Essentially, by using bitcoins users will be contributing to the network, and thus sharing the burden of authorizing transactions. Sharing this work greatly reduces transaction costs, and thus makes transaction costs negligible.

No Risk of “Charge-backs”
Once Bitcoins are sent, the transaction cannot be reversed. Since the ownership address of Bitcoins will be changed to the new owner, once it is changed, it is impossible to revert. Since only the new owner has the associated private key, only he/she can change ownership of the coins. This ensures that there is no risk involved when receiving Bitcoins.

Bitcoins Cannot be Stolen
Bitcoins’ ownership address can only be changed by the owner. No one can steal Bitcoins unless they have physical access to a user’s computer, and they send the bitcoins to their account. Unlike convential currency systems, where only a few authentication details are required to gain access to finances, this system requires physical access, which makes it much harder to steal.
125  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Are you afraid of hackers? on: February 04, 2018, 08:20:25 AM
Here's the advice of investors and experts, edited for clarity and style:

Jonathan Levin, co-founder of Chainalysis

1. Before you open up an account on Coinbase [or other exchanges], set up an unique email that you are going to use for that account.

2. Make sure to set a really hard and long password, and you are the only one to access it from a piece of paper that you control.

Dan Romero, VP of operation at Coinbase

1. On Coinbase, turn off SMS-based two-factor authentication and account recovery for your email account. If you move to Google Authenticator but don't turn off SMS account recovery, a phone port attack can still lead to an email compromise.

2. On Coinbase, setup the Coinbase Vault and two-factor authentication for any sends off-site.

Sean Everett, VP of product management, Coinbase account was hacked by phone porting attack

1. Don't talk about cryptocurrency publicly, especially on social media.

2. Call your cellphone provider, put every level of security you possibly can, and add a passcode to it. The next level protection is to add a "do not port" SIM card to your account. That can last for a year.

3. Even though Coinbase says it takes security seriously and has system designs to protect customers, it's not a bank. Don't trust it as such.

Adam Dachis, digital consultant, Coinbase account was raided by a computer hack

Don't keep all your cryptocurrency investments in one place. Diversify among exchanges. It's unlikely you are going to get hacked at the same time through all of them. Especially if you have different emails and passwords for each.
126  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: What do you think about PlexCoin? on: February 04, 2018, 07:55:57 AM
I don’t think PlexCoin is a good investment based on:

They don’t provide any whitepaper for “confidentiality purpose” until after the pre-purchase (and refunds are only allowed within the pre-purchase)
They don’t provide any information about their dev team
The have no visa certification nor any sponsors
Also, you can read on their website many statements like:

“This implies a huge success for PlexCoin as soon as it launches.”
“Unlike other ICOs, during the pre-sale, the sooner your purchase your PlexCoin, the higher the resale value of these PlexCoin will be.” (Don’t forget that their whitepaper is not yet available).
This sounds like fish bait to me, too good to be real, especially in the cryptocurrencies world.  Smiley Smiley
