121  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Kora BTT ID Confirmation Topic on: July 02, 2014, 03:33:07 AM
I love the idea of an emergent coin: the community is built first, and out of that emerges a true community coin.

You may not see them yet, but this statement is very incorrect.

That is good to hear.

One of the reasons that there is not a rush of outside developers creating Counterparty add-ons is that the CP devs cannot offer bounties, like pre-mined coins can. They are not sitting on a stash themselves, and did not reserve such a horde for development. I think the lack of a pre-mine or IPO is a good thing, but at the moment it handicaps the development of an entire system around XCP. So how can this problem become a virtue?

One answer is Swarm. This is precisely the kind of situation that the kickstarter-like crowdfunding platform is made for. Unfortunately, Swarm won't be ready for awhile. Is it possible to create something shorter term that is custom-made for raising escrowed funds (to create bounties) that would encourage outside developers to create functionality for the Counterparty system? Could the CP devs do the escrow themselves, say, by creating an asset which anyone could buy? What if they created, say, asset CPGUI, with specific terms about what a GUI would require (code-wise), how the coders of the GUI would be paid, etc? How would buyers/holders of this asset get paid back?

Is any of this making sense, or are there logical/logistical problems with trying to fund development by issuing such an asset? Would the original CP devs welcome the work of outside developers?

My only suggestion would be that when it lists my assets, it should also show what price I bought them for, and the total value of my portfolio of assets.

Hello, Eric

Try http://nxtreporting.com/. It will show you all of your assets and your current total gains/losses. It also provides info on all available assets, and overall statistics for the Nxt ecosystem.

I appreciate your post. I bought XCP back in January and think that it is very smart and powerful. But I, too, have been very frustrated trying to use the GUI. It's a great back end, but is still waiting for someone to write a conventional front end, like Nxt has. I'm still a believer, and if your criticisms are used to inspire a new front end, this would add tremendous value to Counterparty and Bitcoin.
125  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][XCP] Counterparty - Pioneering Peer-to-Peer Finance - Official Thread on: June 27, 2014, 10:45:15 PM
Some reasons why XCP has value:

1) Trading with XCP on the distributed exchange is (and always will be) cheaper and faster than with BTC.

2) You can use only XCP for making bets, CFDs and asset callbacks. Forthcoming complex features and financial instruments will also likely be restricted to denomination in XCP.

3) All future proof-of-stake voting, e.g. for protocol changes, voting functionality, DACs, etc. will be determined by XCP holdings.

XCP is the native currency of Counterparty and its sole first-class citizen. If the Counterparty protocol has great value (as I'm sure that it does), then so does XCP.

Thinking out loud here, but is there any chance of getting a BTC proxy token that is tradable. My ideal token would be composed of the amount of XCP that corresponds to a single BTC. This means I would effectively be trading XCP but I would not have to think about the value of XCP, I could still price everything in BTC.

I say this because as I see it one of the main issues right now with the decentralized exchange is the additional mental cost of calculating things in XCP as opposed to BTC.

I am not sure exactly what you are asking for, but will XBTC do the trick? It serves as a BTC proxy. Unfortunately, it's not a part of the Counterparty core.
See what you think.

Can you explain what "BTC Dividends" means, please? I haven't heard this term before in connection with Counterparty.

So.... what is a GOLDTICKET ? and why do I have it ?

Is this a reference to some common joke that I have missed?

Not a joke, but a plot point in a movie from 1971, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.

Investors in Swarm have been issued an additional asset called "GOLDTICKET."

Hey guys,

No official launch date yet, but this is where we'll be doing business: http://betxcp.com/

Keep an eye out!

I'm very curious.
Eyeball out.

I dumped my remaining XCPs a few days ago. I'd probably keep them, but then I have to keep downloading the bitcoin blockchain all the time, which is a pain. Yeah I know there is an online secure wallet that does encryption in the browser for such lazy types as me, but I just don't trust online wallets. So i just figured no reason to keep them XCPs, if the only two ways to use them are either insecure (in my subjective mind) or inconvenient.
i know humans will be humans but its frustrating how they switched their ethics to full on attack on nxt by spreading rumors

I'm an XCP holder, too, and I support their project. But I didn't see their comments as a full-on attack as much as a very lazy, dismissive set of remarks. They didn't do their homework and didn't think they'd have to explain their mistakes. I don't think they expected the reaction from Nxt people that they are getting. I'm going to give them a few days to see if they say anything more in response.

The NXT forging algorithm is a complete fraud.

Hello, Counterpartiers

Sorry for the intrusion. We've been having quite a tussle with Mr. Meanie over at the Nxt forums. He defrauded one of our developers and wrote quite a lot of false and, frankly, rather crazy comments about Nxt and many of the developers and investors.

We'll try to get him back on our side of the fence.

Meantime, please respect the comments from the other Nxters here and do some research on the unique Nxt application of the proof-of-stake concept so that you don't simply repeat uninformed pseudo-analyses.

P.S. I own both Nxt and XCP. They target entirely different types of users with different visions for how this space will play out. I think we can get along.

Sometime in the last 24 hours I received 55.909 GOLDTICKET assets from the asset issuer, 1CT9ui8DxxuHAigRqu7Y45Ujwzfhrzmu4E.

Any idea what this is? No results when I search for this asset or the issuing address on BTT or the forum.

It's something to do with Swarm.

Ok, thanks, Matt Y.
Is there someplace for me to read more, or should I just be patient and all will become clear?

The price of XCP vs BTC is better to be determined by the market rather than the Swarm IPO. Therefore, it's risky to accept both BTC and XCP in the IPO. To adjust XCP price regularly will add a lot of trouble to the IPO organizer, but to set a fix rate will hurt the market severely when there's no enough liquidity at all.

Moreover, I suggest to start a new thread for Swarm. I don't think it is a good idea to bind the Swarm project tightly with Counterparty. Counterparty is just a DEX accepting the IPO of Swarm. Nothing more.  I wish all the best to the Swarm project, but in case there's anything not so good happen on Swarm, we don't want to see the Counterparty will be affected. A DEX should not endorse any IPO in my opinion.

If Swarm accepts XCP, then the DEX is not endorsing Swarm; Swarm is endorsing Counterparty. Ideally, this sounds like a good thing. It offers tacit support and gives use value (and thereby financial value) to XCP. However, your larger point still stands: this creates a risk for XCP if Swarm encounters significant problems.

At this point in Counterparty's and Swarm's lifespan, this risk is very high for Counterparty if Swarm accepts XCP. Going forward, as more companies raise funds via Counterparty, the risk of any single one of them jeopardizing Counterparty grows smaller. So perhaps now Swarm should not accept XCP, but I don't think this should become a standard for future fundraising initiatives.

Edit: I see that I might have misread your post. You were suggesting a new thread for Swarm in order to decouple Counterparty and Swarm. I don't think you were making the argument that Swarm accepting XCP poses a risk to Counterparty in case Swarm encounters trouble, were you? Sorry if I overstated your position. I agree with your recommendation to decouple the two projects.

Be a man a mine something thats fucking real not this scam shit.

You ARE aware that "mining" is a metaphor, right? That "mining" is only figurative language to describe running complex programs on very expensive, specialized (soon-to-be obsolete) computers to discover obscure numbers and verify other computers' numbers, right?

LOL that's going to be funny!!   Grin

TIME TO SELL YOUR NEM STAKES AT NXT AE GUYS!!!!

Rofl. There must be an alternative explanation.... Too good to be true Cheesy

That seems petty and sad on UF's part. But the real issue is that he created sockpuppet accounts to secretly reserve at least one or two additional NEM stakes for himself.

I'd like to invest in Swarm.  Can I do that from the online wallet?

Yes, you can use Counterwallet or Blockchain.info.

Is Swarm currently an asset listed in Counterwallet? What is the official name?

Edit: Or will it only be available on June 17? I see a few assets for sale now with the Swarm name.
