121  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][XIV] Xivra launches at 20:00 CET Dec. 18th on: December 19, 2013, 02:24:19 PM
-1st of all thanks kr105 for building the QT client, I guess I can go back to sleep 'normal' again. Having said that I still need to master it to be able to build it myself and make a clear public doc about it.

-Thanks Chris180Z for answering some questions which I was about to answer.

-Thanks all for the 'not expected' support and mining power .

-I will explain a bit why it takes long before mined blocks/Xivra get into your account.

Once fresh blocks are mined it takes a maturation age of 600+20 block buffer for this block to be confirmed as a real block and before the freshly mined Xivra's actually can be spend.
Out of my head I think (not 100% sure) that both bitcoin and litecoin have set 100+20 block buffer. How does this work in practice :

Xivra 600*75sec = 45000 seconds = 750 min = 12.5 hours before your freshly made Xivra's are actually spendable, this is an average which depends on the real speed of the blocks being found.
Bitcoin 100*10min =  16,5 hours average (rounded down)
Litecoin 100*2.5 = 4 hours (rounded down)

I see a lot of altcoins having much faster speeds as in 30second blocks and 50 blocks to confirm or something similar, this is for a miner quick from mining to the walled but this makes them vulnerable as when an attacks happens on a chain (fork or other) there is less time to react and the possible damage is higher when a 'patch/solution' is not implemented quickly and others can be warned (example exchanges). And attacks can and do happen regularly.

I would not be surprised if Litecoin itself and other 'coins' will actually change these settings from 4 hours and lower to anything between 12hrs and 24hrs. So basically Xivra is at this moment less conservative then Bitcoin but more than Litecoin and it's followers.

As for the mining pools out there, I do know that there are pools of several currencies which actually pay out faster than the actual confirmation time and this is purely done on trust as they will not get the payout themselves before the confirmation time in the code has actually been passed. For a brand new currency as Xivra where there is no pre-mine and the pool owner does not have any Xivra himself before the launch he can not set the threshold lower as he does not have anything to pay the miners before he gets the Xivra himself.

This story is only valid for freshly minted Xivra's and does not apply in anyway to the transaction speed of existing Xivra's.

I hope it is understandable and without too many errors as my native language is not English.

-For those having problems connecting:
Make sure you have a .conf file with the line 'addnode=176.9.1.6' as explained in previous posts.
Make sure your firewall is not blocking the application

100k XIV bounty from me for working windows QT including virustotal scan link!

RAISING TO 200K XIV

...as its urgently needed obv Smiley

I know this is needed urgently and if I seem unresponsive in this thread it is because I am continuously working on it. It can take 30 min, also can take 7 days. I will not know until I get a working version .

I need say that anyone trying to attempt to build a QT that Xivra is completely based on 0.8.6.1 and not like most altcoins on some 0.6x version. Different dependencies and variables compared to other coins.

Due to the fact that I just don't know when I will be able to finish it myself, I am raising the bounty with my whole Xivra fortune of 67k XIV.

I know many people have problems but it is still possible to mine on the pool without even having a Xivra address, especially since the threshold is upgraded .

Mis069: all blocks are equal , 5k each. personally I mined 2 blocks, and the pool operated also did 2. Once a block explorer is online this can be easy verified .

gargouri2001 : I updated the website first as I have a delay on being able to post here.

eon89, TBCM : I agree a nice GUI client would have been nicer to start with, I have been banging my head against the wall for days now and did not find a solution yet. I do have to say that you can do almost everything with command line client too.

JohnDorien : Thanks

gargouri201 : it's due to the insane (atleast for me not expected) hashing power, right now above 40 MH/s , rejection will  happen less and less once the difficulty increases ( at the current rate I think in about 1,5 hrs )

KingGoon : ty and have fun

125  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [ANN][XIV] Xivra Launches December on: December 17, 2013, 02:30:36 AM
I am getting more errors each time I do anything on this pool so I am gonna stop touching it and delay launch until JohnDorien has set up the pool for us.

The reason for not wanting to launch without a pool is that many people don't like the idea of solo mining and secondly it is safer to have a good pool to prevent a quick attack on the block chain right out from the get go.

I wish you all a good night and I hope I can make it good to you by launching a decent currency.

'night all and sorry for the wait

Yea I want to sleep too and ( 3 am here ) and I am starting to see double.

At this moment I am struggling a lot setting up a pool, I know that a good pool operator will make a pool tomorrow for us and I start to wonder if it might be better to wait on that
127  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [ANN][XIV] Xivra Launches December 15th 2013 on: December 17, 2013, 12:26:36 AM
This might be what you need if you don't feel like waiting until the official launch  Cool

https://github.com/Xivra/Xivra

I have no idea how to compile that on windows so can't do it myself. If it actually gives you a head start feel free to send me some Xivra you mine while difficulty is low.

If you are trying to figure out github.com/Xivra/Xivra  then you certainly will hit your head against a wall Smiley , that is some old code which I threw there to prevent pre-mining Smiley

I will update the main post in about 30 min as many initial planned settings have been changed after input of several people who have been involved in a successful launch.

Currently I am setting up a new pool and honestly I don't know if I make the deadline I have put myself, Xivra will launch but there could be 1-2 hours delay.

happy mining
128  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [ANN][XIV] Xivra Launches December 15th 2013 on: December 14, 2013, 05:16:10 PM
Status Update :

Testnet running stable , but there are some remaining 'minor' issues which might postpone release date.

- Starting difficulty is far off from what I expected
- Dynamic difficulty adjust from +20% -50% is off from what I expected ( since it's based on Quark, their adjustment is probably also incorrect, for those interested I use 100/125 and *2 )
- GUI client compiling for mac has many errors.

Honestly due to the fact there are so many alt coins, I thought it would be a matter of adjusting some settings, matter of fact is that I wonder now how many alt coins did not check the code properly and did not bother to clean it up and run it on a testnet. ( This does not mean that Xivra is in anyway better then any other crypto currency, I probably have limited knowledge and it's just something I think after running on testnet for 2 weeks ).

refer_2_me : thanks  Grin
aleiprecht : me too
Irina83 : you are welcome
instacash : hehe, funny enough this project meant to be launched 2 years ago but I didn't have the time in the past 2 years to commit myself to it and it never came close to launching, back then there weren't so many 'coins' around but Xivra was the plan from the start. in the upcoming future I have time, further I am sorry to disappoint you in the amount and lack of innovation.
RoooooR : thanks
MisO69 : Scrypt

131  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: 5 LTC reward to whoever can get my hashing to 700 kh/s on: December 11, 2013, 08:24:13 AM
try this

cgminer.exe --scrypt -o stratum+tcp://www.netcodepool.org:3333 -u blahblah -p blahblah --lookup-gap 2 --thread-concurrency 11200 -g 2 -I 13 -w 256 --auto-fan --gpu-fan 30-75 --temp-cutoff 90 --temp-overheat 85 --temp-target 72 --gpu-memclock 1500 --gpu-engine 1080 --gpu-powertune -20 --expiry 1 --scan-time 1 --queue 0 --no-submit-stale

I like this config and i gave a little twist on it :

cgminer.exe --scrypt -o stratum+tcp://www.netcodepool.org:3333 -u blahblah -p blahblah --lookup-gap 2 --shaders 2048 -g 2 -I 16 -w 256 --auto-fan --gpu-fan 30-75 --temp-cutoff 90 --temp-overheat 85 --temp-target 72 --gpu-memclock 1500 --gpu-engine 1000 --gpu-powertune -20 --expiry 1 --scan-time 1 --queue 0 --no-submit-stale

what is the reason of not using cgminer 3.7.2 ?
