121  Economy / Economics / Re: mtGox vs btc-e price? on: January 26, 2014, 12:05:49 AM
OMFG mtgox is 100 more than btc-e. why aren't you guys buying on btc-e and selling on mtgox?

I would be, but I have been waiting for 3 months for mtgox to approve my account......
btc-e approved it in 1 day....

If anyone that has trust enough wants to sell for me at mtgox I'm game. i need a mtgox account!!! we will need to discuss the details
The spread between Gox and Bitstamp is up to $170, and the spreads on Gox are through the roof at $10 difference between bid and ask, while Bitstamp's are at $.1 or less.
122  Economy / Economics / Re: HSBC restricting cash withdrawals in UK on: January 25, 2014, 04:11:30 PM

Refusing to give customers the cash unless they provide an adequate reason.  People suitably unimpressed at having less control of their money in a bank than they thought.
Is the answer of "I will keep the money in a safe because I don't trust banks that impose such a low withdrawal limit." A good answer, or a bad one?
123  Economy / Speculation / Re: Regards to Argentinian crisis - why isn't Btc skyrocketing? on: January 24, 2014, 08:02:46 PM
Argentininan goverment is re-opening foreign currency exchange, with many restrictions, but still they are re-opening.

I don't think the enemy is more the goverment than it is the banks. Users need to realize they are being f*cked.

Article on the subject:

My favorite quote:
"Mr Capitanich said the government would reduce the tax rate on dollar purchases to 20% from the current 35%."

lol.
124  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Has the NSA already broken bitcoin? on: January 24, 2014, 07:46:20 PM
I'm 100% sure that SHA256 was born broken by the NSA, as well as every other method that they have released, but that's okay.  They won't reveal their crack just to mess with Bitcoin, and anyways they have probably already cracked most banking encryption as well.
So, you know...
Since you possess this insight, you should also be able to explain what exactly it means to break a hash function, and what doing so allows an attacker to achieve? Right?

Sure. Practically speaking, "cracking a hash" would mean being able to find a practical and finite number of possible messages that would generate that hash.  From there you can use other identifying characteristics about the message itself to figure out which one is the real message.

I made this thread for exactly this problem: how can we as a community actually get btc into Argentina?
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=427605.0

Seriously, this is the situation that Bitcoin was created for, so if you have any ideas, let them fly!

How can i help you ?

It's pretty simple: can you think of anything that Argentinians might have that you know that
1. Has a pretty solid trade value, either on eBay or somewhere else
2. Isn't gold, silver or anything else that is obviously going to be confiscated at the border?

In all likelihood, the things we think of will be oddities that we only really know about because of our personal interests: that's why I know about Magic Cards for example.  These are the things that will be easier to get through customs, and because of their trade value they actually have a worth for someone to pay BTC for, even if they don't know the ins and outs of the item itself.

We can ship stuff, but we can not receive anything. -
That's the beauty of Bitcoin.  You can ship me Magic Cards, and I can pay you in Bitcoin over the internet for them, and there is no way for the government to prevent me from paying you.

It's too bad that Jamie Dimon doesn't like it, I suppose he will have to invest his firm's wealth in consumer credit card debt and overdue student loans instead  Cry
133  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Wisdom bugged ? Should be fixed ? on: January 22, 2014, 10:25:39 PM
What is the problem?

Somehow the giant buy lowers the price on the chart - shouldn't it be the other way around?
It looks like it was a giant sell order set to 810, that ran into a large buy wall also at 810.  you can see that part of the sell order went unfilled, and is creating a sizable sell wall at 810 in that picture.

I have checked mtgox, BTC-e, Huobi and there was no sell more than 2btc. I don't think bitcoin wisdom dont know what is sell and what is buy. They use API i think there is a error in the code they use.
If a single person had a large stash to sell on Bitstamp, why would you expect there to be large sales on other exchanges as well?

135  Economy / Goods / [WTS] Bitcoins to Argentina on: January 22, 2014, 07:17:31 PM
Hi All,
Given the increasing news of the upcoming currency collapse in Argentina, I am interested in trading BTC to anyone in that country who feel that they are able to ship small amounts goods out of the country.  I know that it might be impossible to ship out Gold and Silver, but if you can think of anything else that you CAN get through, let me know and we might be able to make a deal!

As an aside, probably one of the better vehicles of trade are Magic Cards, funny though that might sound.  They are pretty common, it is doubtful that anyone expects them to have any value, but they have a pretty liquid market and cards can be found worth $5, $50, or $1,500. As an example, I would be happy to buy a stack of Revised Plateau's (link below) at a decent price.

137  Economy / Speculation / Re: gox-stamp differential on: January 22, 2014, 06:49:48 AM
This is actually pretty worrying, Maybe it is because people are reporting that even local (Japanese) withdrawals in yen are in limbo lately.
138  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Argentina on lockdown- $25 max out of country purchase, 50% tax on beyond that on: January 22, 2014, 04:28:43 AM
Can packages go out of Argentina unmolested? For example if I sold BTC to an Argentinian for a few magic cards, would their shipment make it up to Wisconsin?
139  Economy / Economics / How can we sell Bitcoins to Argentina? on: January 22, 2014, 04:06:47 AM
Hi All,
I saw this article on new Argentine regulations to severely curtail online imports to protect the Argentinean economy from the terrors of Amazon, and it got me really antsy about a currency collapse there:
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-latin-america-25836208

As such, my next natural reaction was to wonder if it was possible for me (an American) to sell Bitcoins to people inside of Argentina, in exchange for goods shipped to me? It sounds like they have a pretty severe clamp on receiving shipments internationally, but are there any effective regulations to keep Argentinians sending out packages of Gold, Silver, Magic Cards, etc? To be honest, at this point working to get BTC into Argentina seems as much a mission of mercy as anything.
