Insights with Cartesi’s Advisor — Serguei Popov (Co-Founder of IOTA)

Recently we held an exclusive interview with our advisor, Serguei Popov. Serguei is a research mathematician working in the field of Probability Theory and Stochastic Processes. He graduated from and attained his Ph.D. at Moscow State University and is currently a professor at Unicamp in Brazil. Serguei is also one of the co-founders of IOTA.

0,1% for bounty pool Shocked are you serious? Grin
maybe they are serious and maybe they really don't want a bounty so I don't think anyone will join the bounty of this project because it's too small for the bonus

The community program is not supposed to be enormous and yes the allocations were set forth to keep the integrity of the project as a whole. Despite the popular opinion, a lot of user's are still manipulating community campaigns with puppet accounts or low-quality engagement. Bubbalex is excellent at spotting these users, but many can circumvent any screening process.

We'll take another look and add some restrictions so that user's feel they are more awarded for their efforts, but ideally, it was never intended to be a fully-fledged campaign. We have more efforts that will be done along the way, for users to become awarded for their actions.

How can you guarantee investors here in the forum that you are not scam?

We have seen many projects in the past, that even after they were receiving funds, launching their product but still end up scam. This project can take too long to be developed, investors can understand that but when there is no date on your roadmap, it would only look like you are going to make people wait indefinitely.

Hey Cabron,

Firstly, we're not actively seeking public funding at the current time. Most of the information around the Token economics, type of sale and etc will be announced when the team is ready to announce it. There's a lot of exciting upcoming events and developments we want to share with everyone and on Monday, we'll be releasing a Q&A into a peak of what some of our advisers are doing.

In terms of taking too long, Cartesi has been in development for over 2 years now and we're quite confident with moving forward accordingly in 2020, we regularly make public comitts but there's a lot of backend coding that has not been made public either: https://github.com/cartesi.

The road-map reflects what will be occurring in 2020, it was a tentative road-map that we primary wanted to publish with this ANN. A brief article about "what's upcoming for Cartesi" will soon be published as well.

Again, Cartesi is not seeking public investments as of now. But, when the time is appropriate, everything will be shared and all information will be revealed. In terms of who we are, I highly recommend viewing our Medium: https://medium.com/cartesi where you can learn more about Cartesi and the team executing on public stages.

Ultimately, we wanted to raise awareness of Cartesi at this stage (it wasn't random or poorly timed), because we feel confident in what the near future holds. Hope that cryptic message helps a bit!

Your team is not actively seeking public investments as of now, maybe later?  We rarely see teams who just distributes their token via airdrop and made it to the exchange. That's wishful thinking for the bounty hunters and whiles possible a lot of waiting that tested their patience as well like the distribution took 1-2 years. We've all seen these in the past team reveal themselves even the members of their family, but that doesn't stopped them from vanishing and never replied again.

Wish to see the project thoroughly launched though, maybe we see price as well.

It's yet to be announced. If a public sale does occur, every piece of information will be available, that would typically be available. No, the objective is not to distribute through free methods or adoption programs, this will not solely occur.

It's ultimately up to you, the participant and community member to determine if you wish to participate in Cartesi. There's a lot of movement behind the scenes and information will be ready when we have finalized those pieces behind the scenes.

Was looking through the whitepaper and i must confess i could hardly comprehend what was written on it because of its advance terminology, lots of mathematical terms that are not easy to digest, and the dev teams looks very capable, very different kind of project,  will be following this for more update.

Yeap, it is a really hard reading. Hope the team would also make a light paper for those who are not that tech savvy. The project is interesting and, as I understand, it is expected that we would see first DApp soon, but different texts for users with different levels of preparation will be always good!

We are aware of the complexity of Cartesi's whitepaper. Moving forward we're focusing on optimizing and revamping much of our information presented, through one-page, this ANN and other means to help digest Cartesi as a whole, in an easier and more understandable fashion for our audiences.

How much funds have been collected in the seed sale phase? How many tokens will be allocated for private sale and public sale? Does Cartesi plan to hold an IEO?

We will be making this information public once confirmed! We are currently evaluating options that are best for all those currently participating and interested in Cartesi. Please stay tuned to our channels for up to date information.
127  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Tokens (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] CARTESI | A Linux Infrastructure for Scalable DApps on: December 24, 2019, 05:00:04 AM
Why create a new ANN thread? You can just use the old one because it has only 2 pages so far.

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5209230.0

But, if you want this to be the official one, you should lock the old thread so people will not be confused on where to check the updates of your project.
Because more than likely, someone will still post on your old one.

It's been locked, thank you for that heads up.

When is launch and where can I get CARTESI coins?

Any public sale is still TBH. The team is exploring all options, in the best interest for all parties involved in Cartesi. We highly recommend staying up-to-date in our Telegram group: https://t.me/CartesiProject

We will be launching a Community Adoption Program later this week with Bubbalex, so keep your eyes out for that.

Public sale is difficult nowadays. Very few can really achieve their targets. You need to find other options to raise funds. You already have technical experts on your team so it is not that hard to sell the platform to private investors. But may I ask, are all those partners & supporters listed on your website providing financial funds to your project or they have different contributions to this project?

Thanks for the question. We have raised funds through some of those backers as private placements, while others are advisors to Cartesi Foundation. We will make this information public upon our launch, so make sure to stay tuned into one of our channels or our Medium (https://medium.com/cartesi) for the most up to date information!

Really interesting project, I am familiar with Truebit and I see that you are bringing a full Linux OS to the table instead.
Could you explain the differences?

Thanks for the great question. Cartesi is quite similar to TrueBit at first glance, but they differ vastly in their design decisions. The first major difference between TrueBit and Cartesi concerns the virtual machine itself; TrueBit’s virtual machine is based on WebAssembly (WASM). WASM is the W3C Community Group’s Instruction Set Architecture (ISA) for efficient web applications, while Cartesi’s virtual machine implements the RISC-V ISA.

TrueBit’s technology focuses on boosting the computational power for smart contracts, which operate under a bare bones runtime environment. However, as we said earlier the applications that we use on the Web or our devices  don't  exist in isolation as they stand on an operating system and many software layers. Our architectural choice enables Cartesi computations to run on a proper operating system. In this environment, much more powerful decentralized applications can be developed.
133  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Cartesi - A Layer-2 Linux Infrastructure for DApps on: December 22, 2019, 05:39:17 AM
It would be nice if you could just highlight 2-3 sentences in layman's terms on what Cartesi is actually trying to solve. So far, as a non developer, I see or feel nothing about this project.

There's a new ANN that's currently going to be released within the next 1-3 days from now. It will help paint, express and layout information around Cartesi in a less opaque fashion.

Cartesi Team Update: Finally a Real OS for Blockchains

Our team of serial entrepreneurs and leading Ph.D. researchers in computer science, probability, and distributed computing have joined forces to solve two of the biggest roadblocks in the mass adoption of blockchain — network efficiency and difficulty in coding.

To tackle these problems, we have designed the first second-layer system able to run a real operating system on top of blockchain. Cartesi brings all the tools and capabilities available in modern operating systems to the decentralized web. It is a real and fully-fledged Linux OS that skyrockets the capabilities of decentralized applications without compromising on the security guarantees of blockchain.

A fully fledged linux OS means a derivative like debian-like?  Upon reading it doesn't really feel like it is a real operating system to me but a platform where the dapps can run.  But you really have good people on your team, I heard of those names before, this could be one of the project that will emerge by 2020 with less possibility of a scam. But we will see since you are about to do an IEO.

I'm going to have to comment so I can subscribe to this thread and see what will happen.

Cartesi's off-chain layer will allow external parties to build upon whichever Linux OS is preferred. The principal idea is that individuals can work familiar software and code and gain the benefits of blockchain, specifically in the DApp region.

Thank you, this ANN may ultimately be reposted and we'll denote that in this thread. We're currently underway with a more formal design and presentation.

with the mentioned industries that you can cater your services, have you presented your platform to at least couple of them to check the viability of your system? or your partnership with those companies is already a testimony that they are trusting your technology in doing business with you?

Yes, Cartesi is ultimately being integrated and developed upon by external business and strategic relation partners. The viability of Cartesi as a whole, from the integrity of the systems built, to being applicable to real-use-case scenarios will be discussed heavily in an upcoming AMA with our Senior advisor:  Serguei Popov, Co-Founder of IOTA.

We also have an upcoming Dapp game to display the capabilities of Cartesi and showcase our tech to everyone (external source: https://medium.com/cartesi/how-to-make-more-impressive-decentralized-games-120636cb5712) This is one major use-case we're highlighting.

A Layer-2 Linux Blockchain Infrastructure for Scalable DApps.

We wanted to open up a formal discussions thread around Cartesi. Ultimately, what we've been making for the past year and a half in building a Layer-2 Linux infrastructure built on Blockchain. Achieving a high-scalability future of DApps, smart contract portability across chains and ease-of-access development on Linux, for the future of DeFi and Decentralized Applications.

this is so weird, you just popped up like 2 months ago with this ETH wannabee, who are you, where did you come from?
no public members on your github, and very low work on there anyways, kinda just feels like a eth wannabee
i wish you guys would just work together, but somehow i feel like theres a reason your not working with ETH, maybe they see thru your skills (or lack of?)
either way, ya no thanks

Hey CJM, I'm part of the new marketing team that Cartesi is in the process of creating. So some of your more hardline questions in regards to development, will be passed to the team.

Cartesi has been around since early 2018. The project formally started in 2017. Cartesi is a project based out of Singapore and we've been quietly working behind the scenes. We're currently undergoing a more public and community focused oriented display, in order to prep for our objective of launching our mainnet soon.

In regards to the Github, there's a lot of interactions from our devs there and is our public display of what we've been achieving https://github.com/cartesi the team as per professional standards develops everything privately before making releases (there is a notice on each public repo regarding this). Cartesi differs from Ethereum in a variety of ways and some the ideas around ETH's implementation where conceptualized by our team a couple of years ago.

Not a problem, we encourage all critical discussions around Cartesi, if you have any technical question, the team will be more than happy to respond on Telegram: https://t.me/CartesiProject

You can formally view some of the public events we've been too, that were recorded (abeit a bit old, in 2018): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JlBbBXY7k50
