121  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][DRK] DarkCoin | First Anonymous Coin | No Premine | Hard Fork At 34140 (DGW) on: March 17, 2014, 10:11:17 AM
I offer a 30 darkcoin Bounty to someone abble to fix my problem with my R9 290.

Summary: my cards started at 2.4MH/S and after 10 minutes they loose 10% and are stable at 2.1MH/S

This happened on all my cards, on all motherboards, under BAMT.

I noticed all the cards have the drop on the exact same second (on one motherboard of course).

I have 2 other cards on windows 8.1 that are stable at 2.5MH and from time to tim (this morning) I have the same drop (watercooling cards)

When the drop happened, the only way to recover the lost hash is to shutdown the machine (a mine restart did not do the job: I don't have higher hashrate)

If I put another card on the same rig, after 10 min, all the 290 will have a drop, and the other card (7950/270/7970) will not have any loss.

If I use thoses cards to mine Scrypt coins, no drop.

If they are watercooled, try the --no-adl command

Thanks, I'll try that tonight, but I don't think it could be the heart of the problem since I got it with my cards on aircooling too on the other rigg.
The watercooling rigg seems resistant to this problem...until this morning (1 week without problem, except one time), tody even a reboot won't fix it, may be something else).

Here is the .conf:

,
"intensity" : "21",
"kernel" : "darkcoin",
"gpu-fan" : "60",
"no-submit-stale" : true,
"failover-only" : true,
"log" : "5",
"queue" : "0",
"kernel-path" : "/usr/local/bin"

Can't do much clean. I just delete my OC settings and do a test few minutes ago with this.
Start at 2.2, 10 min later, it drops in the exact same second to 2.0 (all 3 cards 290), the 270 remain steady.

Temp are stable under 60°

Which 290 series are you running?  I have 5 Sapphire 290 Tri-x OC that I can normally get 2.4-2.5mh/s but right now I can only run 4 cards.  I have them running great at 2.345+/- or 9.290mh/s combined on all 4.  I'm having issues with my mobo and had to RMA ram.  My rejects are .01% on 2 cards and 0% on the other 2.  WU 0.033-0.0334/m per card.

I'm using the Sph-SGminer in Win 8.1 Enterprise

It's been running for half an hour now and nothing has dropped, and they're holding at 2266-2375 depending on the card. Thanks for posting your config . . it was clearly my miner settings. Don't know which one though that's why I posted my old config.

Has anyone seen any particular TC to be better than others with this coin? I'm not looking for a specific number . . just that there is one. Any playing around I've done gave me pretty much the same hashes.

I use the same config file on my R9 sapphire 290, and I went down to 2000 1à min later, so it did not fix anything for me.

Does the fix work for you?

Are those 290's hitting 95c?
With full fan power they are under 45°, so it's not the temperature.

I tried some custom bios without any results.
I change the motherboard without any result.

I only have ONE clue: All the cards looses 10% hash at the exact same second. If there was some card issue, I doubt it happened at the same time, no matter what the temperature difference there is.

I'm not qualified to fixed this anyway...

Could you look if your drop happened at the same times?

I run a bamt linux rig and have the problem.
I had another card on the same rig that has No drop (a 270x).

does anyone have good config settings for r9 290?

been looking all over but can't seem to find any settings for it.

there is a list on darkcointalk.org

Juste burn one R9 290. Never find good setting for this one.
i have better mh/s with R9  280X than 290X and 290.

push coreclock to 1140-1170 and memclock 1250

I cant go over 980 for coreclock

Do they actaully run stable with an OC on the core and stock clock on the memory? Any time I've tried I usually try to OC both to some extent and it always bluescreens or crashes the driver. Even with core at stock and only a memory OC. I was going to try OC'ing just the core next and hold the mem in the 1250-1260 range next but I've been busy for the last couple weeks so I've just been running stock everything.

I meant 1040 CC 1250 MC 24550 TC I 20 r9 290 sapp hawaii pro

Yeah, all mine are ASUS . . mix of reference and the Direct CU2. I like the non-reference asus . . they run about 10-12C cooler than the reference asus. Probably not as cool as the sapp though.

But either way I've just been running them all at 947 core 1250 mem . . dont really see much effect on TC with this coin so not gonna list mine . . . and xI 555 based on the dev's own usage of that difficulty.

What kind of hashes are you seeing? Mine start aroun 2.3-2.4M and drop to 2.0-2.1 after time.

I'd love to see better stable speeds, but don't really want to spend another night messing with settings right now . . and won't want to for at least a week or two.

As i tel before one of my 290 OC memory burn on card with -I 20  coreclock 980 and memclock 1250. Temp at 66°C.

I have one more 290 OC just out of the box. I dont want burn it before i know how to setting them.

Yeah I hear ya. I almost burned a card before . . but it was because i used powered risers from multiple power supplies and hooked them up wrong . . while at the same time overclocking meadium to heavily with scrypt mining. Luckily I only destroyed a couple DVI ports on the card (melted traces), the fan can't be sensed in speedfan now . . not sure what that's about, and the risers themselves are clearly burned plus the mobo had a few pcie ports that don't work anymore due to 850w being directly pushed through the pcie ports. But overall the card itself is happy and has been running for weeks now. I'm guessing it survived because it's meant to handle around ~300w of power . . so in comparison to the motherboard that usually runs around 70w it at least had a chance.

Since then I've just played it safe and run them at the stock 947/1250 AMD clocks and an xintensity of 555. The only thing I changed was the intensity when I switched to sgminer. I'd like to push it further, but I think I've already used up any extra lives the card already had and I don't really want to find out with the new cards.

Edit: on a different note . . I just found the same testnet block on two different computers. Any takers on which one gets orphaned?

I give a try with your setting. Looks good ATM.
GPU 0:  65.0C 2559RPM | 2.026M/2.030Mh/s | R:  0.0% HW:0 WU:0.025/m xI:555

Do you already try update bios ?
I read alot, but not try yet.
Its look like for 290 and 290X oc to have over volt...

Do you mean unlock the 290 to a 290x? No. I looked into it, but none of my cards are unlockable based on the hawaiiinfo file I came across on Techpowerup (think this is where it was).

Because of that, I haven't played with the voltages with these cards. From what I've read, most people are trying to undervolt them in order to pull the best hash/watt ratio because it's less than the 280x . . while some are looking to do heavy overclocking.

With the stock core and mem clocks, you won't need to mess with the voltage for stability . . although it would be nice to pull it down a bit for power savings. But with this coin, I'm not all that worried about power right now.

Unless you mean there's a different bios?

I undervolt 280X for lite, come back to stock bios for DRK. Im near 2300 kh/s sable for 1 week.

Look at this for 290 and 290X :
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=442852.0

let me know what you think about this.

2300 for a 280x? That's awesome. I wish I could get at least that with a 290.

Does your 280x go to 2500 or 2600 at startup and then move down to 2300 after a couple minutes? My 290s all start at about 2500 then move down to 2000 to 2100. Someone's probably asked this but the thread's getting big now.

Looking at that thread I'm trying to figure out why people are trying to keep the 290 cards so cold . . these things don't mind being as close to 95C as possible at all. I saw one person in there mentioning broken fans on a card that's released only a few months ago . . just seems like the fans are being over-used is all. But I guess I can understand with the heavy overclocks I see in most of the posts, and the general consensus that it will lead to longer component life even though that seems counterproductive to me b/c the dead fans.

Running at stock clocks the engine throttles automatically anyways so it never gets too hot anyways unless you force it. One of the big reasons I like the stock clocks. It's been a few months since I've OC'd these cards so I can't remember if the engine throttles automatically with an OC or not.

Anyways, the best I got to so far was around 1100 engine and 1500 memory, with an intensity between 21-22 . . tc was a wierd number I can't remember but spend hours tuning in (then lost after a rogue PSU decided to fry my pcie slots and hard drive . . wrote it down somewhere though so I'll find it when I go back to tuning.) and the hashes were pushing 980 before sick/crash so I'm pretty sure the ASUS bios already in these cards is not holding them back much . . but it still looks like it would definitely be worth a shot to try something else.

Maybe I can get the same kind of hashes on a lower clock and it'll be stable? Do the modified/Stilts bioses give voltage control to non-x cards?

The best stable pairs I found were 947/1250, 975/1250, 1000/1500, 1050/1450, 1075/1470 in increasing number of hashes and decreasing amount of confidence I had in the stability of the card. After putting the intensity higher . . I found 32765 TC to be not the best value anymore so I pushed it up the some number I forgot.

I'm definitely thinking that with the decreased temps with this algorithm, the 290's can be pushed pretty far. Thanks for the link to the thread, I think I'm going to try a different bios this weekend or next and compare to what I'm getting now.

Yes, He is fair and has a nice pool, that's why there may be other mean to deal with, like increasing fees temporary.

I get that, Pool owners want monney and so did not want to refuse some Power.
Users want better service and don't care. Even if you close the registration, the hash will not get away, it will remain the same for a while.

If you raise the fee when you go over 45% (for example), user will start to go away, and the pool owner will get more fees, it seems like a win-win solution.

If all the pools agree to do the same, public oppinion will not be hurted as soon as the fees will get back to normal when the Hash get out of the critical range.

When this hppened, why is there no atomatic mecanism to deal with?
Why did the pool that is over 45% did not rise its fee at 1% rate each week until it gets back to 45%?
The pool will earn profit and the hash distribution will be automatic. I think this issue is not trivial.

Hi,

As promised, I'm currently working on an infographic and other promo materials.

This is the first draft. Constructive criticisms please. I used the reference given here for DarkSend.

on key selling point is also environmental friendly. argue that point to your hearts content too.
30% cooler than scrypt.. so what? 50% more environmental friendly than all other coins.

There are also other exchanges not mentioned. One could question name all or name none.
Name the exchange that put darkcoin into the global pot.

I often have some Xorg process at 100% after coldreboot (that needed another coldreboot) on BAMT, could that explain my stange issue with my 290 that loses 10% hash after 10 minutes?

Here is the fun part:

I have3 R9 290 in 2 different rig that always loos 0.2 MHs after 10 minutes, no matter what overclocking I gave to them.

BUT: the cards looses their MHS at the exact same second...I tried several reboot and look at my screen during a few minutes: It's stable for a while, then after a few minutes, at the exact same seconds, my 2 cards loose 0.2Mhs.

the same for me on windows for one R9 290 (I have two of them) for groestl algo  using sph miner (no problem in qubit algo).
I need to reboot to recover the hash speed.

hum, may be there is another miner?

If you are having problem mining PLEASE come to the darkcoin efnet channel for help. You can connect by going to: http://client00.chat.mibbit.com and selecting "EFNET" from the connect list. and #darkcoin for the channel. Or you can connect your irc client to efnet #darkcoin.
I arrived at the wrong time I assume, the channel is empty.
Quick summary:

I have 2 different rigs:
Rig 1: 7950+290
Rig2: 290+290

7950 is stable
290 are stable for a while, then after 9 minutes i loose 0.2MHs on them. It happened on all my 290, it happened on various pools, when it happened a mine restart did not change anything, but a reboot gave me back my lost hashrate, then it last 10 minutes, then I loose my 0.2M again.
I noticed the drop happened on the exact same second on my rig2 on the 2 290. I reboot, 10 minutes later, on the same second the 2 cards looses 0.2Mh. They did not become sicks, they are stable with 0.2Mhs less.

I used Linux BAMT.

I have no clue and appreciate some help. I was thinking it was the sph-sgminer but other seems to successfuly mine using 290.

will offer a few coins if you can take care of my mental sanity.

Have you tried sgminer with the 290s? I had some issues with my 280x's with sph-sgminer - once I switched to sgminer its been stable for several days and with some tweaking the hashrate is comfortably over 2m/h per card.
Sorry, I missed your answer.

Wich Sgminer can be used?

I don't know if it's related, but often when I coldreboot, on the next reboot my XORG processus take 100% cpu and I have to reboot another time to be abble to launch the miner.

I tried this:

screen -dmS sgminer /opt/miners/sgminer -d 1 -I 18 -k darkcoin -o stratum+tcp://drk.coinmine.pl:6090 -u erz  -p er
screen -dmS sgminer /opt/miners/sgminer -d 0 -k darkcoin -o stratum+tcp://pool.darkcoin.io:3333 -u er -p er

But it does not work Sad
Anyway, I don't think it is the pool since my other cards did not suffer any drops and I have the same drop on various pools.

I can connect 2 cards in the same rig to 2 different pools?
The contemporaneity is for the 2 cards in the same rig, not the third one.

The third card (in a different rig) is pluggued with a 7950 that remain stable.
