Thanks for the reminder, as always. Absolutely beyond me with so few games left so I'm only trying for the yellow caps now. Leverkusen to lose, Mainz to lose, Bayern to lose, why not?

Bayern are going to be protecting every member of their squad for Real, even if it's weeks away. Alonso will do the same no doubt for a dual-pronged attack on trophies. What a luxury!

I see a good chance that Leverkusen could lose the game against Dortmund, but not because Alonso will rotate the team into the ground. I rather think that some of the players won't be playing at 110% at this stage of the season. But I do think that they might be on fire to break the Bundesliga record of 91 points in a season. They would need 4 wins and 1 draw. It is not like a title, but going down in history with a record that could hold for a century doesn't sound like a goal that a team would just ignore for the sake of being fit for the next games. It's possible that Leverkusen really going all out in all of the remaining games.

Quite a better response from Stefanos in the 2nd set, after dropping the first set to Diaz-Acosta, this sucker had better not burn me this round  Angry

Indeed. I didn't think he would have that many issues during the game as clay is his best surface, isn't it? And he has been doing quite well recently, but now he is about to break again. Should go his way. Important one for my match with jayce as he took the risk and picked Nadal Wink

The EPL teams are getting eliminated out of international competitions by the day. Yesterday it was Arsenal and Manchester City out of the UCL, today it’s West Ham United and Liverpool out of the Europa by Atalanta and Bayer Leverkusen. What’s become of EPL teams in internal competitions.

West Ham weren’t so good today, they didn’t do much to be more offensive and even so, they let loose some unbelievable chances like the ball that was sent flying by the eventually equalizing goal scorer for Bayer Leverkusen, that was a terrible chance to have been given away and he couldn’t take it but, still came back for a redemption mood and got his goal eventually.

Now Italy and Germany will retain the first two places in the UEFA club rankings and will receive 5 tickets to the Champions League, while the Premier League will remain with 4. Few people believed that all English clubs would reach the finals, but probably even fewer believed that they would all be knocked out in two days.

Bayer broke Juventus' record and I think it will stand for many years, if not decades - 44 games without defeat is incredibly difficult to repeat at the level of the top 5 leagues in Europe.

Quote

That's insane and I enjoyed following them this season a lot. This crazy mentality to not stop playing and pressing until the referee ends the game brought them so many wins in the last few minutes that what was supposedly luck ultimately turned into a reliable skill. The best part about it is that they play great football. It is not some overly strategic "score 1 goal and then defend" approach. It is pure power until the end.

But now their streak is really going through another test. Next games are against Dortmund in the Signal Iduna Park and Dortmund needs those points. Then against Stuttgart and then they can take revenge against Roma, followed by another away from home game against Frankfurt and then again against Roma.

If after all those games they are still unbeaten, I'd be speechless.

I can't say that Bayern Munich is weaker in performance than before, because in my opinion Bayern Munich is quite excellent in performance, it's just that they are a little slow in progress unlike Bayern Leverkusen, it's much better than what we imagined well in its development, I claim there is no setback just slow development.

Tuchel may or may not leave Bayern Munich even though we see that sign, but who should return to Bayern Munich to train, and Tuchel will go where after this? This thing if you think about it will be very difficult, changing coaches too often is also not a good thing for Bayern Munich itself. If Inconsistency is indeed Bayern Munich is experiencing it, and I think next season will be much better if it is fixed, the solution to a team when there are some things that cannot be solved easily, do not have to look for a replacement for a solution, instead of making it easier, but not necessarily.

That sounds like a very strange opinion. Bayern didn't play well this Bundesliga season. They had some games when they thought they could finally leave their fluctuating performances behind them, but then they lost or tied the next game and the weirdest thing this season was that Bayern was at threat no matter whether they took the lead in the game or not. This is something very unusual for them. Normally, if Bayern takes the lead the other teams are more afraid of getting destroyed than hoping to still be able to equalize it. But this wasn't the case this season. They gave away 2-0 leads against Heidenheim twice, lost against Bochum after leading, lost against Bremen at home, lost the top games against Leverkusen and Dortmund. Problem after problem, but only in the Bundesliga and the DFB Pokal.

Now it remains to be seen what's going to happen. Real Madrid has switched on the CL mode again. They are playing worse than their opponents, yet they win the games.

Anyone notice the fact Bundesliga this year put two teams in the semi finals of Champions League and this two teams are in their worst form in years in the local tournament?

Dortmund is playing very bad, and Bayern Munich, well..... no words for them, but somehow they manage to reach the semifinal, helped a little by the draw but still a Champions League semi final.

That observation is correct but I think that any top team from any other league would be looking bad in the Bundesliga given how Bayer Leverkusen has performed so far. I don't know if it has ever done before, but 25 wins and 4 draws in 29 games is most likely a record.

But what I totally missed is the Champions League revolution from 32 teams to 36 teams next season. As a consequence, one more starter will come from Italy and probably Germany. They were talking about this weird constellation where Dortmund wins the Champions League, but does not make it into the top four I think and then somehow there could be six starters from Germany. I have to check the exact details again, but well, Dortmund won't win the Champions League! Tongue Or will they?

@jayce I wish you good luck, buddy!

I have some good news for you before the game Dortmund - Atletico began: Donny Malen is injured. I was counting on him being in the team, but he was ruled out due to a thigh injury I think. Haller is missing because of his ankle although I knew that before. But Malen is a key player in my opinion. You might be good to go with your draw here. Let's find out! Wink

@mv1986 That's an interesting analysis mate! It's completely true that we can't ignore Malen's contribution for Dortmund this season. Sancho doing great too, despite his flop performance in Man Utd. 6 different answers of 8 remaining questions really getting me excited in this round. I can see you are not favoring Real Madrid so yeah, let's see Cool Another fun fact; your position on the spreadsheet is right above me, so it's much easier for us to monitor each other. Good luck to you too pal!

About the last night match, again, I had a too-early-joy by Atleti's 2nd goal until Füllkrug somehow scored that lovely header. Damn these UCL matches were so exciting! I hope the other games tonight would be more attractive.

Good pick there with Real Madrid. I never thought they would come out as the winner in that match. It hurt my eyes to see the former goal machine Real Madrid defend with 11 players, but I understand that Real Madrid turned into more of a Mourinho team, hoping to score a goal and then mostly defending. Kroos himself said that they were hoping for a penalty shootout. He literally said it. Pretty uncommon for a Real Madrid player, but he told the truth as City was in full control.

I am not at an advantage as it looks, Roma took it home and in both the NBA and tennis question I am ahead, though the points are not yet won. But there is still the FA Cup and El Clasico. But it is good to see that finally so many answers of my opponent were different from mine. It's more excitement for sure!

It was quite easy to make Zverev/Medvedev no picks for anyone who watches a bit of tennis. Medvedev is terrible on clay and to pick him as "yes" on the side where you have Tsitisipas and Zverev would be strange. Tsitisipas has good H2H with Zverev and even better H2H if we look just at clay matches. That one was tougher to call but the odds on Zverev - NO were much smaller however you look at it.

Did well on bookies as well, took Tsitispas to win and Mussetti to cover 2.5 handi in the first set. Everything was going perfectly and then Tsitsi dropped 5:1 in second set  Grin Won it in the end but made it so complicated.

Yes makes perfect sense and I wish I could do the same level of analysis on all the sports you guys prepare questions for, but the reality is that I can't :? Sometimes I wonder how much anyone here knows about cricket or snooker, but those are questions where I feel I can't do much except for going with the odds and nothing else.

If I went with the odds in tennis now, the bookies saw Zverev ahead of Tsitsipas. Close call yes, but as you said H2H and the clay statistics should have put Tsitsipas ahead of Zverev. See, the bookies obviously went with the momentum and this is where I think the surface can play a role where someone who knows enough about the sport can actually beat the bookies. They thought that Tsitsipas isn't doing that well while Zverev is quite good, so Zverev gonna win.

Medvedev and Zverev are both out of the tournament, Tsitsipas will probably claim that SF spot - which is what I was looking for anyway.
Đoković is a set up, all eyes are on Sinner anyway. He's a clear favorite by the bookies, I don't feel it will be so easy though.

I need more info. Maybe it is because I never watched walking dead and don't intend to do it anytime soon.

If you are trying to get under my skin at least explain it properly so I can appreciate the effort. Not gonna work anyway but really curious to hear more about it.

One of the better characters in the show - a crazy badass dictator. You should actually be flattered Grin

Well done @cryptofrka, same here. I wasn't sure whether it was reasonable to count on Tsitsipas finding his form, but after all he is pretty good on clay and if you look at his all time stats, he is quite a bit better than both Medvedev and Zverev. That was my guess, too. The research was worth it here. I looked into the stuff and then thought that the most likely outcome is what now actually happened.

Guys I went with the bonus bet for the Bayern Munich - Arsenal game, saying that there will be a penalty shootout after the 2nd leg. I can't recall the wording exactly, but the pick would win if the 2nd leg ends with a penalty shootout is that correct?

As I am dead in the water anyway, I thought at odds of 8.0 this would be pretty much the only slightly realistic pick that could bring me up in the rankings! Cheesy And to be honest I do like my pick a little bit. Though others are still far ahead, but it would give me two more moonshot possibilities in the semifinals and the final.
133  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Italian League Prediction Thread (Serie A) on: April 10, 2024, 09:19:57 PM
Did you see the game statistics? Cheesy I thought for a moment that I am looking at the wrong game. How is it possible that Juventus has 25% ball possession in their home stadium against Fiorentina? At second look I thought I missed an early red card or something, but no, it was a usual game and Fiorentina dominated the entire game, but wasn't good enough to score. Juventus is on a serious downtrend.
Juventus is very economical in movement, even to the point of thinking "ah, never mind, Juventus will catch up, ah never mind, Juventus will lose". However, after waiting eagerly for Fiorentina to score a goal, it turned out it didn't come. even until the match is over. This time, fortunately the opponent was Fiorentina, who were really annoying because they dominated the match but were unable to score a single goal.

Should I say:
"Just let Juventus play like it is, the important thing is that the result is a win."
or
"Could it be that Juventus' performance has improved a little, why is its performance going this way and that, its performance is even far from good for a club in the top 3 of Serie A."

Even Juventus was offside 5x, while Fiorentina only 1x.

Google

Thanks for sharing this here and I quoted the post in whole as it makes sense to point out why I was bringing the statistics up and added a smiley.

I can't remember to be honest, but it must be a very long time ago that I saw a game where Juventus Turin played at home and had only 218 passes for the whole game.

Keep in mind that Juventus didn't play against Manchester City. This is ridiculous and it's quite telling. I would be very concerned as a fan and as someone who is in charge of the club. Whether that be the coach or the bosses or the owners or whoever, but this is not Juventus Turin as we know them.

Don't think so. It is what it is and the only thing that can come out of it is a penalty for the ref. By penalty I mean he could be dropped from CL for the rest of the season or something like that. Worse things happened in football and we never got repeated games. There were cases when clubs took things into their own hands and let the opposition score a free goal (lower leagues) in the reverse fixture but no way Arsenal is doing something like that in CL  Grin Arsenal is still complaining about Saka "penalty" in the 95th minute and they probably feel wronged here.

The whole world saw what happened with this referee decision, but I think Arsenal would argue two ways: one way is that they believe Saka vs. Neuer was a penalty, which in my opinion was not a penalty as Saka is throwing his leg against Neuer's leg. I wonder why Saka didn't play it smarter than that because he could have either scored or indeed gotten a penalty if he made sure to be closer to Neuer to have more of a full body contact. The second thing they are bringing up is that the whistle was still blown when the goalkeeper passed the ball. But the entire gesture and body language of the goalkeeper was that he took the whistle as the restart of the game. As was said somewhere else, whatever the case, why the hell would the Arsenal player take the ball with his hands even if he thought the game was not yet continued?

A Germa official (Sammer) said that for the sake of great football, it was right to not give this penalty. I get the point he is making from an emotional perspective, but this is just not how rule sets work.

The worst of it all is the explanation the referee gave. Imagine he wouldn't have given the explanation "was a child's fault" or something, but instead said that he didn't exactly see whether the goalkeeper kicked the ball before the whistle was blown, while it was blown or afterwards. That way he would at least have put out his own state of confusion instead of his own decision to bend the rule set for the sake of a more fun football evening. Cheesy It was the most stupid comment the referee could make. That alone deserves a penalty. He was too honest and too dumb.

It is his last chance but not sure if he is the favorite to win it. With all the young talents (Alcaraz, Sinner, …) it will be hard for him. Lets see how he can perform on his return to Monte Carlo; too bad Nadal will skip it due to his injuries.

In the past I was still confident when Nadal skipped a tournament but the Grand Slams came closer. He usually was very consequent in skipping smaller ones for the sake of playing the bigger ones. But this has changed in the last two or three years and he rigorously skips any tournament at any time if he doesn't feel well. Hence, it is not a good sign this time again that he still isn't back on the court.

He's already said that 2024 will be his last season. It would be sad to not see him play Roland Garros, or honestly, it would be just as sad if he does play the GS and then has to give up at some point because his body goes on strike. That's another concern I would have in the back of my head every round he'd play.

Juventus managed to win a terrible game in the end.
2 removed goal to vlahovic this evening.

1-0 but the only important thing at this point are the 3 poins, 2 point earned against Bologna.

They also have only 2 hard game left so looks easier after this win.
