121  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [GPUC] GPU Coin | GPU sale Friday~ Get a TOXIC R9 280X for $300 on: April 04, 2014, 01:14:53 AM
...asic only helps coins. gives them more hash power, secures the network, and overall generates more profit...
Are you nuts? If ASICs become the way of mining, then GPUs are out, and what is the point of GPUC??? Sure, they do help secure the network, but they make mining SEVERELY less profitable. Do you not understand what's happened to Bitcoin due to ASICs?

What happened? It became far more secure. Hashpower = network security.  They don't make it less profitable.. in fact you're so far off on your logic it's mind blowing. If that were the case then bitcoin would be worth less than a dogecoin. The most profitable long term altcoins are Scrypt, but it's not their algo which makes them profitable. The most valuable and sustainable cryptocurrency will be the one consumers use worldwide, and that may not even be Bitcoin in a few years.. who knows.

Aside from that, no cryptocurrency has inherent value, and only a few of them have somewhat tangible value. ScryptN (or ANY algo) coin value shouldn't be evaluated from the first 6 months.. not even the first year honestly. Vertcoin's hash and value is dying, just like many others.. why..? Nothing tangible. Why mine it? No consumer use. GPUC is following the same path right now. Network hash has died off severely.

Besides that, to maintain a network you need ongoing hashrate. Ongoing hashrate = more power usage. Without ASIC you limit your hashrate and increase security risks. Right now the least efficient Scrypt ASIC systems are pushing 500kh at just a few watts, and I can get them for the same price as 270 cards. Think about that for a minute.

Would you rather be mining GPUC at 500kh at say 150watts, or 5 watts? Because the latter would be giving you lower overhead and hence a more valuable turnover.

Like I said before.. hardly anyone in this thread understands the problem with GPUC, much less long term coin design and sustainability. Maybe 5 people.
Again, I can't fathom you pro-asic people's logic when it comes to GPUs. When ASICs are in use, GPUs become useless. I'm not talking value of the coin, I'm talking value of mining hardware. What is the point of BUYING GPU cards when you can't make PROFIT from a GPU card??? Only gamers will be left if ASICs take over again. Fucking seriously, how do you not get this? Shocked

New alt currency idea! Maybe we should make ASICC; ASIC Coin! Buy ASICs from a store with it.  Roll Eyes

I'm on the fence about this. Obviously people have invested a lot of money and time in GPUs, but that doesn't mean someone who invested the same (if not more) money and time on specific hardware for mining should be at fault. ASICs do strengthen the blockchains and reduce power consumption (better for the world), but it's basically then a "rich get richer" system. Only the privileged few who can afford ASICs will get coins, thus making the coin worthless if no one uses it.

All I can think when I see this coin is "I want the gold" Wink

I have particle coins.

Why PRT community has so little people come here? I remember here always be in active!!!

I think the dip in BTC activity has caused a lot of altcoins to halt or stop progressing for a bit. No worries though, it should straighten out in a couple days I think.
124  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] [HVC] Heavycoin - Ultra-secure, Decentralized Block Reward Voting, Fast on: April 04, 2014, 01:09:05 AM
99.9% of our price dip is due to btc. The other .1% is a combo of dumping for mining cost and probably weak hands. You missed the part where we were in the green and no one else was Smiley

On a more positive note I need everyone's help with bringing more awareness and real world value to Heavycoin outside of the one merchant we have.

Please go here http://www.reddit.com/r/heavycoin/comments/21z8v4/moolah_is_the_future_of_digital_currency/

And sign our Thunderclap here, https://www.thunderclap.it/projects/10329-heavycoin-secure-e-currency?locale=en

Everyone these 2 things will make a world of difference, if you are an IPO holder you literally should have already done both of these. Strength in numbers people, I'm a tiny coin holder in comparison to most of you but I believe in the dev team and this coin. We are at a pivotal point where the number of coins released is making it very difficult for people to see the diamonds in the rough like our coin is.

Give HVC what it deserves head to both links, tell your friends and family about it. Onward and upward all!!

I feel the same way in regards to the dip -- it's all BTC related one way or another.

Honestly it should pick up in a while after things stabilize a bit more.

I just keep thinking "hold on a little bit longer" and so far it's worked out pretty well.
125  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] [USDe] Unitary Status Dollar eCoin $$ IMPROVED | BLOCK HALVING THIS WEEK!! on: April 04, 2014, 01:06:56 AM
USDE was never a good coin, just skip it

Honestly the market hasn't been too bad for USDe lately.

Been checking it and having decent results with some arbitrage.

Anyone had luck with this multicoin pool lately?

Been giving it a try but not much luck Sad

so... you are looking for a train to hope in...
VTC , LTC ,

Love PoS coins! Will give this a try!

It looks really promising. The community is the strongest part of any coin and getting it off the ground.

131  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] cudaMiner - a new litecoin mining application [Windows/Linux] on: March 27, 2014, 09:26:36 PM
may-be....
More people mining a coin, means larger coin supply the price can only drop...

The diff should be going up as well, so it will even out.

Honestly I expect it to normalize again in the next coming week. I'd just hold on to your coins instead of selling, but that's just personal opinion.

...and v0.5 is available at the place you all know and love: github

NOTE: Great efforts need great donations. I'll split with Chris84!

Which compute would you recommend for the 750ti's?

Thanks Christian, you are a godsend to this community!

Compute 3.5 fits the 750 Ti's best.

The cards actually have Compute 5.0, but a 5.0 build with CUDA 6 Toolkit does not provide any benefits in speed.

Thanks!

Looks great, was just testing while waiting for a reply and ended up with x64 / Compute 3.5 giving best results on Windows 7 x64 for the 750ti.

I actually got rid of my overclock as it was causing it to run funky, but now I've got the following:

4x750ti - 10-11 MH/s each
GTX 680 - 12 MH/s

Impressive results!!

Also would like to add it's only using 50-75% TDP, that's really insane.

For anyone looking for a pool --  http://rt2.hashfever.com/ is working great for me.

running a few 750ti's and we've found a decent number of blocks already

we need the conf file name and addnode to be prepared!

Was going to say this too. We could use the conf file name and some nodes at least!

Just solo mine 2 blocks

I'm probably going to try out Rotocoin. Launch is in about 3-4 hours.

What version of Cudaminer is everyone using?

Also, any good params for 750ti?
138  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] cudaMiner - a new litecoin mining application [Windows/Linux] on: March 18, 2014, 08:35:15 PM
Anyone using Cudaminer for the following new keccak coins?

Slothcoin
Galleon
WOTcoin (tomorrow)

Was mining Slothcoin till ~150k of them and decided to wait and see the price (read: if it was worth my time).

4x MSI 750ti's:
cudaminer.exe -a keccak -i 0 -L 128 -l T1024x16 -C 1 -H 0 -d <gpu#> -o stratum+tcp://pool:port -u <user> -p <pass>

Gave me ~ 125000 KH/s on one of the cards, and the others were floating at ~100000 KH/s each.

GTX 680:
cudaminer.exe -a keccak -i 0 -L 128 -l K2048x24 -C 1 -H 0 -d <gpu#> -o stratum+tcp://pool:port -u <user> -p <pass>

was giving ~130000 KH/s

Not sure if I was using anywhere near appropriate config options since my research didn't lead to much help. But figured I'd get the conversation started.

139  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][Sloth] Slothcoin - SHA3 - launched! on: March 18, 2014, 06:57:14 AM
my wallet dont sync, it says " no block source available... 8 days behind              9 active connections to slothcoin network"

  Huh
Same here. Did you solve this problem?

You need to create a Slothcoin.conf file and put the nodes in there if you haven't already.

Cheers!

throwing some mining power at this!
