121  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: [ANN] BTCJam - Peer to Peer Bitcoin Lending on: May 05, 2014, 05:18:41 PM
My BTC has been locked for over a week. As of writing this I have lost 0.02259 BTC due to their incompetence.

-----------------------

I spent 15 minutes to find the following information. I'm not good at this kind of stuff, can you find more things that BTCJam is trying to hide?

The address on their contact page is fake; a Suite is required: 1 Bluxome St., San Francisco, CA 94107

Alexis Aiono, Head of Support, is only 19 years old.

Celso Pitta, CEO, refuses to respond to emails requesting information about why my account was blacklisted and why my balance was reduced to zero.

Celso's linkedin page is a fake! It lists the following patent as his:
http://www.linkedin.com/pub/celso-pitta/59/368/a9
Dispositivo computadorizado para detecção automática do estado de vigília e nível de atenção de um ser humano num posto estático.
Brazil Patent MU8702413-6 Issued October 7, 2008
Inventors: Celso Pitta

The patent is here:
http://www.patentesonline.com.br/dispositivo-computadorizado-para-detec-o-autom-tica-do-estado-de-vig-lia-e-n-vel-183518.html

The real inventor is here:
http://br.linkedin.com/pub/celso-cardoso-pitta/34/285/35a

Company claims to be based in San Francisco, Ca.
It is actually owned by a company called Ovo Cósmico LTDA and is based in Brazil.

BEWARE, so should you get your BTC out NOW!?

-----------------------

Celso didn't deny that the contact address is a fake.

Nor did he provide any evidence that Celso Cardoso Pitta is not Celso Cardoso Pitta Jr.

Nor did he provide any evidence that his full name is Celso Cardoso Pitta Jr.

I admit I got into an argument with a close friend of Alexis Aiono, the 19-year-old Head of Support. After VtechX left a harassing and defaming unsolicited comment, which had no purpose other than to persuade investors to not invest in my A credit rating short-term opportunity, I went to address the concerns in the investors group. There I found that Leslie, the close friend of Alexis, had goaded VtechX into harassing me "bad cop" style and had listed me as a "Do Not Invest" solely because I had thanked him for investing in me. After attempting to reason with Leslie he became irate and threatened to go "Moses" on me and bring down the "Armageddon" on my profile. Leslie then persuaded Alexis to blacklist my account.

Nobody was DOXed.

-----------------------

At the minimum, I believe that this is a terrible company that hires immature teenagers who will blacklist and empty your account without your permission because of mere favoritism.

CEO of BTCJam here.

I’d like to address the claims made by Avastar1:
1- We are not a scam. We are a legitimate business that started out in Brazil, hence the Ovo Comsico LTDA. We recently moved to San Francisco and raised money from various Investors, including Ribbit Capital who also backed Coinbase and Xapo.
http://ribbitcap.com/bets/btcjam/

2- I am the inventor of the patent mentioned, and here is the link to patent that includes my name. The LinkedIn profile posted is the one of my father, who carries the same name as me (I am officially Celso Cardoso Pitta Jr.)
http://www.patentesonline.com.br/dispositivo-computadorizado-para-detec-o-autom-tica-do-estado-de-vig-lia-e-n-vel-183518.html

Avastar1 is mad at BTCJam because we blacklisted his account after he started harassing other users, which is against our Terms of Service. We haven’t taken any Bitcoin from him, we’ve simply closed his account. For about 3 days, he was not able withdraw his coins and is now trying to claim that we are a scam.

3- While we’ve had a few scammers in the past, our credit scoring algorithm has improved a lot and our repayment rate for the last 4 months is over 90%. More importantly, investors are averaging 19% year over year returns, further proving that the core of our credit scoring algorithm works. Just be sure to invest in A and B loans, diversify well enough, and you will make good returns.
Here are some tips on how to do that: http://blog.btcjam.com/post/75934926878/the-3-rules-of-peer-to-peer-lending-for-investors

Perhaps people would take more seriously your offer if you make btcjam legit and stop the scammers from harming people.

yeah i've heard that lot of people never paid back loans..

As of right now, our current investors are enjoying 19.3% APR. We have a very active Investor/Borrower community that are mostly on a user-ran Facebook group called Investors of BTCjam.com. Check it out if you're interested!

I know this is off-topic , but the WORST part about this website is that it goes against the principle of Bitcoin.

Sure , it makes sense that you need to sacrifice your anonymity if you want to take out a loan.
But after investing in people , under an anonymous username as I prefer , why can't I give them a rating ?

To really be able to use this website , all you have to do is give all your personal details to a central authority ( BTCJam )

You can be completely anonymous as an Investor on BTCjam. We require identity to be submitted in order to rate another user as a method to weed out multiple ratings that could be from one source with several accounts.

130  Economy / Long-term offers / Re: (BTCJam) Funded early by mistake & I'm short on: March 16, 2014, 08:54:03 AM
The same way planning your business or family budget, planning is an important part of using BTCJam. Our credit score takes into account open loans you have and we try to prevent scammers from opening more loans before they've repaid old ones.

The best is for you is probably to buy a less powerful mining hardware, repay the loan and then try again with a bigger loan from the get go. Always makes sense to go a bit bigger than what you really need, in case your loan gets only partially funded. We should make this clearer in our user education and I will forward this to our product team.

ncsupanda, I'm sorry you've had negative experiences. Can you elaborate? We've come along way in recent months with our credit scoring algorithm and also now have more support resources. I'd love to hear your inputs in how we can make the service better.
131  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: BTCjam - Any Thoughts or Experiances on: March 05, 2014, 07:32:34 PM
EG: A loan request says "5BTC 180 days @ 10%" for example; that's 10% per what exactly?

THAT is the scam pointed here.

It is NOT always % of BTC.
If the value of BTC increase by 50% in 180days, you'll get 55% of what you invested which mean you'll loose 45% of your BTC.

I am speaking from experience.

You should know that there are two different types of loans: bitcoin loans and linked loans.

Linked loans have the amount linked to the bitcoin exchange rate for a given BitstampUSD asset. The payment size in bitcoin will fluctuate over time following the exchange rate that asset. This type of loan makes sense if your income is denominated in USD or other fiat currencies, and you don't want to expose yourself to Bitcoin volatility: both as an investor and borrower.

Bitcoin loans are expressed in pure bitcoin. This type of loan makes sense if your income is denominated in BTC.

@ BTCjamSupport:  Is there any chance of you actually responding to my question posted in the OP or my 2 emails sent to you which have been ignored, asking how you calculate interest rates?  Currently its as clear as mud.

Yeah either post your user ID, or contact me at alexis@btcjam.com

The scammers and dishonest people are a minority within our community, that are decreasing day by day. When a borrower activates his/her loan, they are under a legally binding contract called arbitration, and the personal information of the borrower will be handed to the investors if they do not pay back on their loans (See more below). However, currently, our repayment rates are above 90% and investors are getting 19% APR on average.

Bullshit!  Your site encourages scammers!

I have been posting warning messages when a user tries to take out more than one (6!!) loans at once, only to be emailed by your support saying I am harassing users and my account will be locked.  Just over a simple warning message!

You really don't care what scams go on as long as you get your cut.

https://btcjam.com/users/9705

We have been looking into this issue for awhile, and you are correct, the user #9705 has many open listings. Users are penalized for having multiple open listings in their credit score. (See how his is at C currently).
User #9705 has never made a late payment out of his 16 loans, 11 of which are paid in full. It is impossible to decipher that this is a ponzi scheme, which you have accused him of in your email.

You will have to bear with us since we are new and learning how to deal with these type of issues. We appreciate you reporting this and if any suggestions about how to go about it, we would happily chat with you via email.

Been trying to submit my ID for ages but no matter what "ID is to pixilated"  or whatever, How the hell am I supposed to get a good picture of my ID when it has holograms built into it? BTCjam is a waste from what I have seen. They lost a good customer with me, I have been investing on it since it opened and lost 7.7btc to date, on a user with great repayment history and stats. Now that I could use a loan of a couple of bitcoins they do not want to verify me...

Could you please email support@btcjam.com? I will review your ID submission and explain why it was denied.

Dude with 6 open loans gets a C....

I, however, submitted ID, a pay stub, verified phone, social networks, attached gmail & ebay accounts, etc.....and I'm a D+

Makes perfect sense....   Roll Eyes

The algorithm that determines credit score takes into account many different variables. Submitting identity information is a lot, but also payment behavior and outstanding balance are among the factors. In this specific case with user #9705: he has never had a payment, pays early, has almost all of his identity documentation confirmed, etc... If he did not have so many listings open, his credit score would more than likely be an A.
