121  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Altcoin best / worst beginning of 2018 on: April 23, 2018, 04:02:03 AM
DTX? I have never heard about that token before, and i am on cryptos for more than years.. Seriously, what is that coin? Anyway, i think that Ethereum is the best option at this moment, i am not trying to hype it, but we all know that.
I would recommend a DTX token. This project will be successfully successful, you will see.

Just upgraded one of my miners, and get the following error at the top of the miner configuration tab.

It was falling quickly.  Shut it down, opened it up, made a change, do believe I fixed it.  It's been up 1h39m now, will get back later with stats and the fix.  Up 4 hours and looking good.  If still good later tomorrow I'll post.

Okay, after 10h44m the hashrate is 440.08.  That's fixed.

When I inspected the questionable S3 hashing board that had cropped to well below 418 the day before, I found that board surface between the last two pins on the right of the ribbon connector rear had raised green material.  That's pin 1 with the arrow and the pin immediately below it which I had called pin 20 but is possibly pin 2 being the adjacent conductor.  Touching the green material it came away easily and flaked free showing oxidized copper beneath.  Those two pins are common on the hashing board but the corresponding pins on the controller board are not.  They tested common on the hashing board with the ribbon removed.  Still, since it showed minor heat damage, the green material flaking off and the copper discoloration, I put a soldering iron on the pins then fired it up.  It was not a fix and the hashrate dropped quicker than usual.  Shutting it down and taking the top off, those pins were easily accessible so I soldered a quick jumper between the two pins with #28 wirewrap wire and closed.  It's been running ever since.

So, if you have an S3 that has a dropping hashrate, e.g. down to below 418GH/s in a few days, check the area of those two pins on the questionable board and if it shows indication of having heated from high current, try the jumper.  I believe this is a good fix.

could you post a picture of that area please, i do have the same problem with one of mine, and the problem S3 does have a higher temp diff between the 2 boards

128  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: To overclock or not? on: September 22, 2014, 07:26:01 AM
Hi All! I have 2 S3 and both overclocked to 250, but one of them loses speed to 460-450gh 2 hours after launch. I changed the firmware, changed the thermal grease (lost x) did reset, reconnect the power connectors. Nothing helps. What to do?
129  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER S3 Discussion and Support Thread. on: September 13, 2014, 09:17:25 PM
I have bitten the bullet and reverted back to the stock cgminer too! I know I will be missing the security updates and a responsive GUI but the drop in hash-rate felt a bit hard to swallow (see my updated results in the OP here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=750220.0)
How back to stock cgminer?
130  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER S3 Discussion and Support Thread. on: September 13, 2014, 03:40:47 PM
Besides security, what performance or efficiency gains will I get from the cgminer update on my S3+ B8?  and Do I even need to update?

Also because I have the overclocked from the factory S3+ B8 do I need to plug in all 4 PCIe cables or am I OK still only plugging in two?  I plan on putting 3 S3s into 1 1200 watt PSU (Corsair AX1200i)

Thanks in Advance for your response!!
1. cgminer 4.6 has bugfixes for some security holes, however, in terms of performance gains, the jury is still out (see update to OP here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=750220.new#new, suffice to say it will reduce the load on your controller.
2. Running 3 S3 units at stock on a 1200 watt PSU will push it to the max. I personally would run only 2 on that.

Thanks.  Appreciate the advice.  Very comprehensive information!!

Since my 1200 watt PSU was able to easily handle 3 S1 Antminers overclocked to 200GH Im confident that it can handle 3 S3+ Antminers, that is unless 4 PCIe Connectors are required per miner.  Ill test when I get the units and report back.

You are welcome.
If you can run 3 OC'ed S1's on that PSU, then by all and any means, it will run 3 S3's without ceremony.
And no, you do not need 4 connections for S3's (OC'ed or otherwise), 2 are perfectly OK so long as they carry the wattage required by your set frequency (which they can as ably demonstrated in the linked thread).
Sorry, I read all thread, but not understand  how psi-e connectors if I want to overlock 250?
And why my S3 overlock to 504 gh, after  down to 460-470gh - no x or -?
Thank you?

According to Bitmain, and Dogie's Guide:
Strictly only 2 PCI-E connectors are required at stock speeds, however it will reduce cable temperatures by utilising all 4.

In short, only 2 are required unless you clock beyond 250, but 4 are recommended.
Thank you!
one quetion: how speed better to find blocks?
