121  Economy / Reputation / Re: [FUN][In Merit] Post Count Down To Your Next Rank Here. on: December 13, 2022, 05:04:22 PM
Hey, @rudin123, count me in to achieve Hero Member too haha lol.

Meanwhile, I congratulate @salad daging for his new rank. And not forget too for others who achieve their new rank.

You will also achieve the hero member rank in time, though you are still a long way away from it. You've been in the forum for a while now, as evidenced by your activity, but you're not very active in posting here. Increase your posting level and frequently contributing to the forum will make moving from one rank to another appear simple and a dream come true for you.
122  Other / Meta / Re: First forum's post 13 years ago by Satoshi introducing Bitcoin on: December 13, 2022, 04:52:46 PM
It is 12 years since his last post and the forum continue and has gain membership of top cryptocurrency developer including Vitalik Buterin(Ethereum Developer)
It is always worth celebrating the man behind bitcoin, Satoshi Nakamoto. The coin and forum that birthed cryptocurrency as a space especially with a no cost for some and the great awareness with the advent of bitcointalk. The decentralization of currency, produced many millionaires that had come as a holder cryptocurrency and other uses of blockchain

His contributions are not to be overlooked. He has done more than enough to be called a messiah of the twentieth century. His invention has contributed to the reduction of the government's total control and dictatorship over money all over the world. His dream is becoming a reality as more people use cryptocurrency as an alternative to the local fiat currency used by banks. He is a man who deserves to be celebrated and praised for making life easier for the common man and providing a means of livelihood for some who found it here for themselves.
123  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: What to do when trading gives you heart problem. on: December 13, 2022, 04:30:20 PM
One thing people must understand about cryptocurrency trading is that they must lower their expectations and only enter the market after learning enough about the market and its trends. We all know that you have to take a risk in order for things to work out, but you must also be prepared to overcome any obstacles that may arise while trading. The best traders are those who have sufficient market knowledge, are willing to take risks, understand when to buy/hold/sell, and always prepare their minds for the worst by lowering their expectations.
124  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why still keep the money on phone? on: December 13, 2022, 05:23:31 AM

if vulnerable why people still keep his bitcoin on wallet phone?, are they rich? Why they give his bitcoin to the hacker?

Although the Vulnerability of Mobil wallets and hardware wallets varies with the latter been more secured. But security sometimes has to do with how the investor treats both wallets, a mindful investor could keep his mobile wallet secured but a careless investors could still lost his funds on hardware wallets. Another thing about Mobile wallet is its portability and cost saving. Investors saving having just $300 or below worth of funds will see purchasing of hardware wallets a waste of money considering its price.
125  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: FIFA 2022 world cup on: December 13, 2022, 05:07:27 AM

I don't think, Argentina can win this FIFA world cup title, because there are teams that are more solid than them in this semi final which will be difficult for them to cross to final. We have saw the performance of Croatia from the beginning of this tournament and till now they are still doing wonders which will be some of the advantages they will use to roll out Argentina not to achieve this title. Argentina didn't achieved a lot from Messi in this season, because he really missed many opportunities in this FIFA world cup competition that made many people to believed that Argentina can only drag for second or third position not first position in this season.

Argentina have had problems finishing there game off early to avoid panic at the end. But are we serious here that Messi has been spectacular? If we point at one man that has actually driven Argentina this far it will be Messi. Argentina haven't scored many goals but he has been involved in 7 of those goals to bring them here. Without messi Argentina will have been thrown out right from the group stage.

There is no doubt that Argentina is the strongest team out of the remaining ones. Out of the 4 teams, Argentina and France are the ones who were considered as tournament favorites before the start of this world cup. Then we have Croatia, who managed to reach final last time, but no one took them seriously this time around. And finally we have Morocco as the 4th team, who were written off by everyone and a majority of the sportsbooks predicted that they will fail to progress from the group stage and qualify for the pre-quarter final.
Both Argentina and France are stronger than the their opponents but we do not rule them out just like that. Croatia's advancement to this stage isn't a mere story, some people believe it's just luck but it is not that. Been luck is doing it once but doing it again is class. Croatia might not have the best set of players but there are a team that can take on any country in the world at the moment. So we shouldn't just say they rely on luck but give credits to there tenacity
126  Local / Nigeria (Naija) / Re: Nigeria (Naija) on: December 12, 2022, 07:20:24 PM
Quote
The new cash withdrawal limits will have tax implications especially for individuals and MSMEs.

As many people will be forced to carry out transactions using electronic payments, small businesses that currently operate mostly on cash will become visible to the tax authorities.

This will trigger various tax obligations including:
Income tax: If your business is registered as a company you may be liable to CIT depending on your annual turnover (i.e. no CIT if your turnover below N25m, 20% if your turnover is between N25 to N100m, 30% if your turnover is more than N100m) in addition to Education Tax at 2.5%.

If your business is not registered as a company then you will be liable to personal income tax based on graduated taxable income bands between 7% and 24%.

VAT: All businesses are required to register for VAT and charge 7.5% on their goods and services except those with annual turnover below N25m.

PAYE: All employees earning more than N30,000 per month are liable to PAYE which must be deducted and paid to the tax authority by the employer on a monthly basis. You may also be liable to other statutory contributions such as pension depending on your staff strength.

Individuals: The more transactions you make electronically the more the tax authorities will get the intelligence to track your income and net worth making it easier to fish you out if you are a tax evader.

What to do: If you're a small business owner, you need to take some steps now:

1. Register with the relevant tax authorities (FIRS and the State Internal Revenue Service where you operate)

2. Open a separate bank account for your business (or dedicate one for that purpose if you already have a business account) and don't mix business with personal transactions.

3. Government on its part needs to sensitise the general public especially small business owners, and the CBN should ensure a proper handshake with the fiscal authorities. For instance, the conditions for excess cash withdrawals could include Tax Identification Number.

With all dis things wey you don highlight more about the new policy of the CBN, it makes more sense if d general public knows more about the benefits of it here. Dis will help d economy of the country and help reduce crime rate for the country. I hope dis is just as  they’ve said it and they don’t have any oda purpose for mind. Because our naija leaders just get as dem dey be when money don dey involved to lobby for themselves. E go better no be today matter, we dey hopeful say things go beta for good soon.
127  Economy / Economics / Re: A career - as an employee or a business owner which do you prefer and why? on: December 12, 2022, 07:10:54 PM
Both are good in my opinion, and I can only choose the one that will benefit me the most. Working as an employer under an organization or government comes with a slew of restrictions and regulations that, even if you don't like them, you must follow in order to keep your job. Working as your own boss, as a business owner, gives you a lot of freedom to do things on your own time, but it also requires you to always think outside the box in order for your business to prosper and continue to run. Whatever situation you find yourself in, simply build yourself to achieve your dreams.
128  Other / Meta / Re: Whoops out of smerit. Should there be a way to buy some from theymos? on: December 12, 2022, 06:23:10 PM
Lately are we running out of sMerits? Few days ago it was The Sceptical Chymist, now it's you. I am not a merit source, I don't want to be too, not in the near future but sometimes I feel I don't have available sendable merits too.

Since you feel so sometimes or lately as you said, then why not consider being one. I thought merit source is given to people that merit good posts often even though it’s a voluntary work. If you run out of Smerit and still feel like given more good posts that are worthy of it, then consider being a merit source too, it’ll be helpful to forum and you’ve contributed well here too.
129  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Was Bitcoin project a failure after all ? on: December 12, 2022, 06:21:54 PM
I actually love the fact that you stated it out that it started 12 years ago. Look at its roadmap and how it has grown through this years. Compare it to the so called shitcoins that came over to made corrections to it and how they are doing now. A successful project does not just bust into the scene and take over from something like fiat been back by the government. Bitcoin is on the right move and it will continue to develop (that's why BIP's are evolving). If its the continual swing between the bearish and bull period is the reason for your statement then that has been part of it because of its volatility but as a store of value its actually not a failure
130  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin/Crypto Donations; The negative impact on it price on: December 12, 2022, 03:11:03 PM
Your only outcry is the mass conversion to fiat but have you thought about it regardless of sending bitcoin directly to donate, bitcoiners will still sell off there bitcoin to donate the fiat which is still same thing but this time they lose their privacy. Some of these donations are beyond boarders so converting the donator local currencies to the receivers currency is hard and can discourage donations but with bitcoin it can be send from different borders (countries) without this conversion worries. This also advocate the uniqueness of bitcoin to potential investors.
There also other objectives like government not hijacking the donations through bank deposits.
131  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Making post for merit on: December 11, 2022, 04:17:05 PM
I might be wrong but half of every new post created by newbies to full member ranks are for merit sake.  Everyone has the zeal to grow in ranks and many people perceived that creating new post attracts more merits. They cannot be far fetched from that because merits sources and some higher members merits these posts base on the efforts the writer puts into it (some could even be old posts rewritten). The main thing is to just have an ample of what you're writing about. Not some individuals sharing post they do not have an basic knowledge about.

So it's not entirely bad creating post for merit sake but make it something educative and a content from you not a plagiarized content.
132  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: November 2022 worst month for cryptocurrency newbies here is lessons. on: December 11, 2022, 03:48:13 PM
While you consider it the worst month, I'm look at the situation with a positive mindset because it's the month that gave us more discount for pushing of Bitcoin. The whole FTX situation would had been easily avoid if you listen to the advise of not keeping your coins on exchange. I don't think anyone who didn't have funds on FTX was affected in regards to them losing access to their funds and for the decrease in the prices of Bitcoin and other altcoins. That's just the volatility of the market doing its thing and if you hold until your Bitcoin, tomorrow you'll be smiling as the price will be worth more than what it's now.

Newbies seeing this post should focused on accumulating Bitcoin as this opportunity mightn't present itself again. Each time the market give you a discount to accumulate Bitcoin, grab that opportunity with both hands and ignore any negatively spreading around. I sympathize with the affected victims but they should learn from this experience and secured their funds better in the future.

I might be considered a self centered fellow for this but I sympathize with people greatly affected by the this bearish period. This year is actually a great year if you just started investing in Bitcoin. Imagine it been at that 60k mark it will be high for new investors but at the current 17k it is a blessing to new comers to accumulate more. Thereby getting it both as a store of value and expecting some profits.

As for the Exchange saga I think the warning has been there since, so it was a matter of time before what happened would actually occur. I just hope people actually learn from the saga and leave off making exchanges like this, their wallets and staying off shitcoins. It was a bitter lesson for some and I sympathize with everyone affected
133  Economy / Economics / Re: Central Bank of Nigeria to limit cash withdrawals on: December 10, 2022, 07:49:45 PM
Since the new regulations were announced, many comments have been made about them by those who will be affected directly or indirectly in the country. I believe they did it for the sake of the country's economy. We don't know where this is going, but whatever it is, we're confident that it will be for the good of the entire country. No policy has ever been implemented in a country without public opposition, and this is no exception. But we can only hope that it is for the benefit of Nigerian citizens.
134  Local / Nigeria (Naija) / Re: Nigeria (Naija) on: December 10, 2022, 07:41:23 PM
What is the impact of the limitation of the daily cash withdrawal to bitcoin ? This has a direct effect on bitcoiners in Nigeria, since bitcoin can't be used without the Fiat currency in the country, and if you want to but plantain of 30k and the seller is using the cashless transaction system, what will you do? And also has an advantage to bitcoiners, because since we are familiar with the online transaction, the cashless system will favour us but what market pipo?

You no need to bother yourself too much about this matter my guy, if dem implement dis then even the market people go improvise, na because dem never introduce am you dey reason say e go hard. Even person wey no go school now fit operate and use ATM machine. Before dem introduce am for even civil servants to dey collect money from bank instead of table payment dem been grumble but now dem prefer am like that. Anything wey person put head say him go do, e go definitely work out like that. Make we just dey watch see how the matter go be after dem implement am because I no see any reason wey dem go stop am now since e don reach dis stage like dis.
135  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: My first sponsored Bitcoin seminar on: December 10, 2022, 12:27:16 PM

In general, it's good. But it will totally depend on how the person presents Bitcoin. It's great if the person focuses more on the actual uses and importance of Bitcoin, while it can be very bad if the person focused on making money and stuff.

This right here is my caution to advisors of bitcoin. It is a great thing that some people took it upon them selves to spread it adoption. But the information handed out during the awareness sections by some need to be questioned. My first introducer to the bitcoin world only spread its profit part something like me gaining in every raise of it. And this has seriously drive people to put in there entire savings to maximise profits.

Things like store of value and its ability to hedge a little against inflation than fiat are the first lesson. Its risk lesson could be thought after the learner gets more knowledge why he needs to move away from fiat then subsequently security and other protective guides. Nonetheless kudos to the advocators
136  Other / Meta / Re: The long waited Nickname has been given (The Sceptical Chymist) on: December 09, 2022, 07:47:52 PM
The Sceptical Chymist deserves congratulations. I never expected the request to change his username to take so long, given his reputation and the amount of effort he has put into the forum. I like his new name because of his personality in the forum; he always does things skeptically here, so even his new name. I aspire to be like him in the forum; he's simply too exceptional in his own ways. We've all seen and appreciate everything he's done and continues to do here. All the best to The Sceptical Chymist.
137  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: I became Independent Because of Cryptocurrency on: December 09, 2022, 07:11:34 PM
It is a great feeling reading peoples testimonies about how bitcoin has shaped their life. New investors like me have already been given the opportunity with this bear market to invest in bitcoin. With little profit made. The next step is to diversify it to local businesses like holding agricultural produce for the upcoming recession. With the diversification one could DCA or do future trading under no pressure. The other business could spare as source of means.
138  Economy / Economics / Re: Have Satoshi dream failed? on: December 09, 2022, 05:45:41 PM
Satoshi Nakamoto created Bitcoin as the perfect P2P digital money but today people are forced to pay tax on their holdings. Haven't this make the whole anonymous and freedom dream of Nakamoto failed?

If you understand the government and how it operates, imposing taxes or regulations on bitcoin should not surprise you. They believe that if one makes an investment, they should receive a portion of the profits. Bitcoin is here to put an end to that, and everyone will have complete control over their money. Only centralized exchanges allow governments to extract taxes from your money, according to findings. Nonetheless, each country has its own taxation prices, which can be favorable in some places and harsh in others. All of this, I believe, is done to threaten the existence of bitcoin, but despite this, it continues to thrive.
139  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: "Bitcoin is Islamic" -by Economist Bruce Fenton on: December 09, 2022, 02:21:10 PM
There isn't a need to drag religion into this. Bitcoin just like Fiat can be use the right way and also be misused according to Islamic teachings. With fiat you could lend them with or without interest, same goes to bitcoin lending, the lenders could decide to add in interest it is now left for the lendee to reject the offer if he is on Islamic ruling. The edge bitcoin has over banking sectors is its ability to be controlled by the owner whereas in banking some actions are taken with the owners knowledge. And some of these money in banks are used for businesses that are frowned upon based on teachings of Islam. With bitcoin they have total control of it.

Otherwise bitcoin usage goes same way as the fiat just the investor has the deciding factor.
