121  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Does possessing information play an important role in betting ? on: March 09, 2024, 11:57:26 PM
Information is key. Without any information, we’re left clueless on how to go about doing literally anything but with the right and adequate information, there is no limit on what we could achieve and get done.
It’s obvious this could be applied to gambling as well. With adequate information on strategies and strengths as well as weaknesses, it would be possible to predict an outcome that could actually come to reality and allow you achieve wins along the way.

I won’t say it’s exactly a strategy as one would be considered not so smart if one doesn’t posses some or the required amount of information needed to knowingly and safely place bets.
Information is important in our everyday lives and the more information we acquire, the better we are in living our lives.
122  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Drake loses $615k bet on Joshua-Ngannou bout on: March 09, 2024, 11:22:12 PM
Drake thought Francis Ngannou would win but Anthony Joshua knocked out Ngannou in the second round of the match of the heavyweight showdown in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

Drake lost $615000.

You win some, you lose some. You can’t win it all. This would be added to his growing list of losses he has made during the years he has had gambling.
This loss like others and despite the amount, will probably not have any effect on him or his finances and it’ll probably be just like any other loss he has had before.

$615,00 is no small amount to lose but I guess with his history, he’s not a stranger to losses like this.
123  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Indirect victims of gambling addiction on: March 09, 2024, 10:53:34 PM
But why do people always avoid talking about the good side of gambling, but rather focus on the bad side, e.g whereby a man gambles, lost all his savings and family perish. Why do we always avoid the good angle such as whereby a man through his winning gotten from gambling, he is able to establish business for his wife, buy a new house and live a good life. Why do we always avoid such stories? Because the truth of the fact is that is a man who lacks self-control while gambling, so will he lack self-control while venturing into other things, hence, gambling shouldn't always be the cause when a grown-up man fails to take full responsibility of his own actions.

I don’t think people ordinarily focus more on the negative aspects of gambling. But you would admit that negative aspects of gambling are all over the news with people still being irresponsible with their actions. And with news like this always making the rounds almost all the time, people would quickly forget about the positive aspects and dwell more on the negative ones.
And I don’t think one who lacks self control in gambling would automatically have same with other aspects of his life. Having self control in gambling doesn’t necessarily mean you’re going to have such a trait in other aspects of your life.
124  Other / Off-topic / Re: Keeping your gambling habit a secret. on: March 09, 2024, 10:36:48 PM

Everyone of us has a secret and there are a lot reason why we hide it but in gambling it's better to show all we got than hiding some of this problems. Cause it will affect more in our life once we are hiding something in our family and it will make more crucial if they will know late than their expected. Anyways it's up to us if we gonna tell our family or keep it hiding until they found out cause there's no secret that can not be revealed.

I think there mustn’t be any reason if one decides to be private with his gambling activities. There is only going to be a problem if one decides to be irresponsible with his gambling actions and that in turn could have a negative effects on his life and others.
But a person who gambles responsibly could have a healthy gambling lifestyle and could also be private as well. People are quick to say stupid things and literally judge someone without knowing anything. Keeping up it activities private could also bring one peace and rest of mind from judging eyes.
125  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Premier League Prediction Thread 2023/2024 on: March 09, 2024, 07:50:29 PM

Manchester united winning today wasn't an easy one if not for the two penalty chances they have they strikers where not actually doing their job greatly , however Everton put all their relentless efforts making the second half tougher and the game finally ended 2 goes to 0.

I originally wasn’t happy that Manchester United had won the game by scoring two goals through a penalty shootout. The goals might seem to some as easily gotten. But then, it really didn’t matter on how they won their games as long as they did win it, claiming the three points.
They did play well though especially in the first half of the game and they had some good attempts at goal as well. They also came out of the game having a clean sheet and that I think, is quite telling.
United defenders did a great job in keeping the ball out of locating the back of the post and were rewarded with having a clean sheet and the win also.
126  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Premier League Prediction Thread 2023/2024 on: March 08, 2024, 11:58:28 PM
The match appears to be quite unpredictable, and it will be difficult to choose between the two teams based on their recent game performances. Manchester City will have a much lower chance of winning this game because it will be played at Liverpool's home stadium, Anfield. Liverpool has a bigger advantage because they'll be playing at home. Aside from home advantage, the statistics and current intensity of the league will determine how the game will end. Manchester City and Liverpool are more likely to draw this match than any other score we can think that they can finish with. It will be a serious match, and I am looking forward to seeing the outcome.

I don’t think it would be as difficult for Manchester City as you may think. Despite playing at Anfield, Manchester City still has a good chance of winning the game. They’ve got a tight squad and won’t be so easy to have a win over. Pep has shown time and time again how his lads has delivered for the team against some tough opponents.
I don’t think Liverpool has that much of an advantage over City just cause they’re playing the game at home. They may have an effect but not much to hand them the win.
City itself would likely bring out the big guns to enable them have the win. I see both teams each scoring a goal. Looking forward to the game.
127  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Do you blame someone for your gambling losses? on: March 08, 2024, 11:37:41 PM
am a fan of luck because I don't feel comfortable when a gambler tells me about his losses. Although every gamblers are not the same like others. My reasons for this comment is because 4 different gamblers might gamble on the same sport match but only 1 of them will win. All gamblers have their own pattern/strategies of gambling, so naturally, gamble is made from luck.

No one would feel comfortable always or love to hear negative news from people unless you’re one who loves to hear bad news about people and that would show the type of person you are.
I’m also not a fan and quite tired of hearing about people talking about their losses. I’ve also heard tales of people recounting their losses and most of the time, they are quick to point the blame at others and fault their losses on the actions of someone or something else. It’s always crazy how people are quick to claim all the glory when there are wins but quicker to absolve themselves of any responsibility when there are losses.
128  Economy / Economics / Re: When luxury becomes a necessity. on: March 08, 2024, 11:02:40 PM
There are people that are not influenced nor moved by wealth. They prefer a modest and average lifestyle to that of a wealthy and luxurious one.
But living a modest and average lifestyle doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy quality goods and services. Everyone likes and appreciates quality goods and a high level of service and would go for it whenever possible.

Your topic head should read; “when quality becomes a necessity” and not luxury. Luxury isn’t really a necessity in the life of an individual.
129  Economy / Economics / Re: How can it be possible coping with one source of income on: March 08, 2024, 10:24:17 PM
It is very possible to live and cope fine with a single source of income, what is expected in that condition is to discipline oneself to living within the boundaries of what his income could afford and make accessible to him/her. With a good financial planning a single source income earners could make a better life for himself than a multiple sources income earner who's extravagant and wayward in spending. Life is all about budgeting and planning and when you fail to do so, no matter your sources of income you can't be able to cope satisfactorily well.

It’s not advisable to have a single source of income. It may be possible to live and cope fine with a single source of income but with the rate of inflation, your single income would start to be looking small for and wouldn’t be enogh anymore to keep up with living expenses.
How much you earn would be a good determinant on your lifestyle and even if you earn a whole lot of money, it would start to tell on your pockets later on with the rate of inflation and inflation with the prices of goods and services skyrocketing, it’s advisable to have a second means where income incomes in.
130  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Indirect victims of gambling addiction on: March 08, 2024, 09:43:18 PM
Partners in dependency - Relatives often try to "understand" the addict and help him, by paying off his debts, while accepting his promise to stop gambling, a promise he is unable to keep. More than once, family members come to the aid process, becoming partners so that they become “addicted” to the therapeutic process. But help works in exactly the opposite direction instead of helping the gambler wean off, they perpetuate his condition. These partners, such as parents or spouses, may find themselves in great distress that requires treatment.

There is a limit to which friends and family can help an addict. It’s just like trying to save a drowning man; you’ve got to be careful so as to not get drowned yourself.
Someone that’s not an addict that makes a promise and fails to keep that promise over and over would have a hard time getting people to believe him anymore. Then an addict that makes a promise repeatedly and doesn’t keep it, he’ll never be believed.

Someone with an addiction is going to lose everyone that’s close to him. Everyone has issues of their own and wouldn’t want to get drawn into your bullshit anymore than they have to.
131  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: ⚽ Football Transfers Speculation, Odds and Predictions on: March 08, 2024, 02:16:33 PM
Following football trends, Victor Osimhen of Napoli will be better off taking the move to PSG and go become the new prince of France. With Mbappe touted to leave for Real Madrid and Goncalo Not firing in the 9 position, Osimhen is one who is one that can fill the voids easily.

Yes, I would think so too. Mbappe had left some shoes that Osimhen could be able to fill in quite comfortably. And perhaps, his skills would be more pronounced playing for PSG than it would playing in any club in the premier league.
He could very well be touted as the new prince of France if such a move takes place later on.
132  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Do you avoid some games because of racism? on: March 08, 2024, 01:12:25 PM
I wouldn’t exactly say racism affects the outcome of games of most leagues. Perhaps it does affect the outcome of matches of smaller and somewhat unknown leagues. That’s why I place bets on known and familiar leagues like the EPL.
There’s too much at stake to openly be racist about your decisions and some people is kind of being coerced into behaving like a normal decent human would. You’ve just got to bet on leagues you’re familiar with. Unless of course, you decide to still place bets on those games you think the outcome could be affected by racism.
133  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Jake Paul to Fight Mike Tyson in Live Netflix Boxing Event - July 20 on: March 07, 2024, 07:49:35 PM
I really wish Mike would give Jake a bloody nose and hopefully two black eyes to match. But then, Mike isn’t a young man in his prime anymore and if I’m being realistic, I honestly don’t see him winning this fight but I think It’s a good chance to make some money alright.
Mike is a legend and would always remain so irrespective of how the fight would turn out. I see Netflix has rights to broadcast the fight live to its subscribers. The money to be made would be quite substantial.

I think people could and likely would bet heavily on this fight.
134  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: What Work Now May Not Work Tomorrow on: March 04, 2024, 02:45:16 AM
Those games are won and lost at random. I’ve played quite a bit and may have once thought of the possibility of having a pattern. When you think you’ve discovered a pattern, that’s when you’ll get thrown off. If you’re the stubborn and persistent with nothing else to do, you’ll keep on looking for new patterns after your previous one fails. Until you get convinced of it’s randomness.
No casino would have or keep longer than they should, a pattern for some of their games that could be cracked by someone smart and used to beat the system.

You’ll need more of luck than you’re going to need any analysis or pattern.
135  Economy / Economics / Re: If being a graduate is the key to being wealthy, why are there poor graduates? on: March 03, 2024, 07:19:13 PM
I dont agree with the "drop-outs" do better - because here you are looking at only the famous ones who actually had a vision to pursue. There are so many college drop-outs, if that was the case they would be ruling the working class, but they are not. Its called survivorship bias.

It’s not a fact that drop outs do better and if there ever was a theory stating so, I would likely disagree with that theory. Admittedly, people drop out from school for various reasons. One likely reason is having lack of financial support to continue your education. But then people have dropped out for lesser reasons and due to their irresponsibility and lack of focus on their studies.

People that dropped out due to carelessness and irresponsible decisions.. how then can such people do well in life when they can’t gather enough motivation and focus to finish what they started.
And without having relevant educational qualifications to make him more relevant and wanted for employment purposes, he’ll be majorly overlooked as his chances would be slim or next to zero.
136  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Premier League Prediction Thread 2023/2024 on: March 03, 2024, 06:08:39 PM
Manchester United leading Man City at the break of the first half is some unexpected result especially after that City performance against Luton, and them getting the early lead is something didn't really see could happen with United's shaky form...And Rashford getting a goal against the citizens is definitely a confidence booster that he so needed at the moment to silence his critics!!

And with the second half coming, am thinking  that's the real test to see if the boys can be disciplined at the back to avoid any clumsy fouls and the alike, otherwise GG United Wink

The first half lead Manchester United had didn’t give me much hope as the opponent they were facing weren’t a small team.
Rashford scoring a goal made me happy as I like the player and hope he does score more goals. But the first half lead quickly turned around as the second half saw Manchester City waking up and scoring three goals to help give them the victory. I had hoped Man United would hold on and hopefully score more goals to increase their lead but that wasn’t to be.

I didn’t have high hopes of Man United having the win and I really wasn’t disappointed when they lost the game.
137  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Gambling still pays regardless of our losses on: March 03, 2024, 03:57:45 PM
Gambling does pay and that’s why people still continue to put in money in hopes for a win. Not entirely surprising too.
Congratulations on your win. That’s how gambling works. You win some and you lose some. Your predictions came out right perhaps cause you actually did some research and didn’t bet blindly.

Although the losses incurred in gambling could be significant, having a win most times restores one’s faith in gambling and allows for more betting. If one doesn’t win, there would be no one playing.
138  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: What is your state on mind if your son stole your money to gamble? on: March 03, 2024, 03:41:23 PM
Parents may have had great influence on the past, but now as soon as a kid grabs a smartphone and begins to look for things on their own, the influence of the parents diminish significantly, as now kids have a source of information and entertainment that is with them anytime they want, something that even the most dedicated parent is unable to do as they have many other things to worry about, so unless the parents directly or indirectly introduced gambling to their kids, I do not think we can blame them if their kids begins to do this at an early age.

Parents still have a great deal of influence in the life of a growing child. But parents today are beginning to share the responsibility of bringing up their child with lots of other people. For some, I would think babysitters wields a great amount of influence in the life of a child than the parents themselves who spend little to no time with their children.
Despite having access to smartphones and all of that, parents still have a great deal of influence. It’s left for them to use it properly in bringing up the child right. In this case, the parents have a share of the fault in the stealing habits cultivated by the child in order to gamble.
139  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Gambling and Behavioral Change!!! on: March 03, 2024, 03:29:10 PM
Behavioral change is common depending on the mood or what happened to your day and not just related to gambling. There times that you'll win or lose in gambling, there are times that you are happy, irritable or frustrated, but it's important to be aware and of these behavioral changes and potential impact on ourselves or those around us.

I think the OP is taking about gambling and how it can have an effect on your behavior. Aside other factors that could affect your behavior, I think gambling as an activity could have quite an effect on the behavior of individuals.
Like the OP noted, people cope with wins and losses differently and those emotions could then have a spill over into other aspects of our lives. Imagine a gambler who’s on a losing streak and his finances being in the red, tat person would likely be frustrated and would have a not so pleasant interaction with others.
140  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: A gambler takes his own life after a loss. on: March 03, 2024, 03:19:30 PM
Also your life doesn't belong to you, we all borrowed it for max of 100 years, when it's time, everyone will drop their life, to me it's not worth to take someone's life and it's also not worth taking your own life because of money, if this man is still alive today he would have recovered this amount already.

People need to be responsible when they are gambling, this act is an act of irresponsible, you feel easy to make money like it's just a straight up line, you don't think about you losing the money, the amount must have been the max he had in his account, why took such risk? It's sad.

On the contrary, I believe your life is yours. If it doesn’t belong to you, who then do we “borrow” life from?
It’s our lives and like all living thing, we’re all going to die someday. Although, I agree with you that taking one’s life due to irresponsible actions and choices made is not cool. If the individual here was alive, there was always a possibility that he would bounce back from the loss.

People do need to be more responsible. You made a mistake? own up to it and learn from it so it doesn’t happen again. Taking your life over losses incurred is not reasonable to me.
