121  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Solar Panel Considerations on: April 07, 2024, 09:58:15 AM
It is best to have enough space for 16 panels, since if we assume that each panel produces 265 W, the total capacity is 4,240 kW.
The following table shows you the profitability of mining hardware https://www.asicminervalue.com

Options that generate profits, such as Bitmain Antminer KS5 (20Th), Bitmain Antminer KS3 (9.4Th), and IceRiver KS3, all require averages higher than 3200W, so you may not have enough to charge the battery.
You can increase the number of panels, but the space will be governed by the equation 165 W per 1 m2 and cost.

You have the cost of purchasing the panels.
The extra space.
Battery costs.
Purchase mining equipment.
Insulation and electrical circuits.
You should calculate your profits well, assuming that the price of Bitcoin is around $60,000, so that you will achieve profits as long as the price is higher than this price.

122  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Understanding bull and halving. on: April 07, 2024, 09:30:49 AM
Your definition of mining process needs to be completely reworked.

Mining is not done by running nodes and there is a difference between full nodes and miners.
This process does not happen from time to time, as a delay of a few seconds may cause you to lose the block reward.
There are no specific standards, but rather keep changing the nonce
Powerful computers are not used in mining. Computers are multi-purpose, while Application-Specific Integrated Circuit (ASIC) is used for mining.

The mining process is not linked to a change in the price of Bitcoin. Bitcoin mining will continue, and after several years there will be no effect of halving despite its occurrence. Therefore, there is no effect of mining as much as it is a change in the factors of supply and demand.
123  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Ledger Nano X on: April 06, 2024, 05:10:16 PM
BIP39 Passphrase is also known as the 13th/25th word, which is encrypted inside the device, Ledger confirmed that they do not copy the passphrase, but Ledger team lied several times, so since it is encrypted alongside with 12th word, it is best to assume that it is will be sent to the 3rd party servers.

Using a memorable Passphrase does not give you a good entropy and therefore you should not feel safe if your wallet is hacked.
124  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [Long Post] Litecoin is the next logical move, here's why. on: April 06, 2024, 04:22:03 PM
The NAV per share (basically, the value of the assets you buy when you buy one single share) of LTCN is currently 8,57$ as per its product page (1 share is 0.08585404 LTC), so a price of $44 would indicate that those buying LTCN at this price are pricing LTC at about $500. Shocked

I already created a topic about it in ALTT but I couldn't find any answers. Comparing it with the ETHE Grayscale Ethereum Trust and the ETCG Grayscale Ethereum Classic Trust, what is happening with LTCN seems crazy. There is also some movement in DEFG at $40.00 and the NAV PER SHARE is $35.94, so something must happen with LTC.

125  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [Long Post] Litecoin is the next logical move, here's why. on: April 06, 2024, 09:52:06 AM
I agree with most points and it gives me an answer, even a partial one, why does LTCN keep rising?

Speculation on LTCN means that something will happen soon, either the price will explode up or down.

The updates made by LTC make it something that is constantly developing and not like Bitcoin, but one of these updates is the MimbleWimble upgrade, which is something that governments may not like or pass quickly.

The use of LTC for payments, lower fees and higher scalability will be the strengths of an approved ETF compared to many altcoins.

126  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Why can't I retrieve the private key for my bitcoincore wallet address? on: April 05, 2024, 03:09:57 PM
Do you think both are equally safe? and can you explain a little about the advantages of electrum and bitcoincore?
The current code is completely different from what Satoshi wrote. 13 years have passed during which many changes have occurred.
You can compare Electrum Personal Server vs Bitcoin Core because they both run a full node but Electrum is an SPV and can be compared with wallets like Sparrow.
127  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Is that Possible to mine crypto with ram on: April 05, 2024, 02:49:13 PM
How about ways like PoST but not POW
Post-mining is not actually mining, but rather a balance that developers reserve before starting to launch the currency, and it happens mostly in hard forks. Instead of starting from scratch, the development team allocates a number of currencies to some addresses (mostly developer addresses) and then begins mining the currency using actual mining.
PoST is not available to everyone.
128  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Is there any working merge-mining in BTC? on: April 05, 2024, 11:35:47 AM
Hi there,

I've noticed there are some new Layer 2 (L2) projects being announced, and I'm curious if any of them are currently successfully implementing merge-mining.

Cheers!

Merged mining is not a new idea and was implemented in Namecoin in 2011. You can see its details https://github.com/namecoin/wiki/blob/master/Merged-Mining.mediawiki#Goal_of_this_%20namecoin_change

As for its successful application, F2pool supports ELA merged mining, which allows to mine ELA tokens alongside BTC. You can see the steps here https://f2pool.medium.com/mine-btc-with-f2pool-and-receive-ela-vcash- and-nmc-merged-mining-rewards-52cc196c4333

ViaBTC had similar plans but the latest is two sidechains under development called Coordinate and Alys, one for Ordinals and the other for EVM-compatible with a system called Anduro by Marathon Digital Holdings, here was announced https://ir.mara.com/news-events/press-releases/detail/1344/ marathon-digital-holdings-introduces-anduro-a-new

I do not like the idea of merging-mining sidechains because it gives a false sense of security, especially since the new project's direction is to use the name Bitcoin to give users a sense of security and that the new network is safe from 51% attacks.
129  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: how to test my (litecoin) node? on: April 04, 2024, 09:58:08 AM
is there something like https://bitnodes.io/ that has a method to test if my node is available to the public?

how would i perform this test through a shell command? that would be a better option.

I have a litecoin node i'd like to test to make sure is accessible publicly. i also want to test my dogecoin and monero node
https://bitnodes.io does not show all bitcoin full nodes, but rather nodes that accept incoming connections from port between 1024 and 65535, and Litecoin has a similar analysis

or

As for unknown altcoin or general answer you can check Port Forwarding using canyouseeme.org just open port 18080 or 18081

130  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Why can't I retrieve the private key for my bitcoincore wallet address? on: April 04, 2024, 09:34:00 AM
is the only backup I have just the data in wallet.dat? is this safe?
I do not advise you to extract the private key, a.k.a master private key, as wallet.dat allows you to encrypt your private key with a password, and the stronger and unique it is, the more difficult to hack your wallet.

bitcoincore wallet is not a good option for beginners so why not use any SPV wallet like https://electrum.org or https://sparrowwallet.com where you get your 12 words wallet seed which can be easily stored offline.
131  Other / Serious discussion / Re: Kucoin in trouble? on: April 03, 2024, 01:11:44 PM
A lot easier to sell when my crypto is already on the exchange but of course that comes with risk.
THERE'S NO SMOKE WITHOUT FIRE, and when eyes started on FTX, it collapsed quickly, so there is no need to risk your coins and trust that everything will be fine.
Kucoin will not be safe if you use it in the United States and will likely be banned in more countries.
132  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Mining Kaspa With What? on: April 03, 2024, 12:36:50 PM
Is 33 dB to 40 dB the result of the experiment or what they promise you? Reducing the noise from 75 to 33 would be great, but the best I got was ~(50-55) dB.
You are right that a regular noise box reduces the noise level on average from 80-90 dB to 50-55 dB, but if you add additional noise insulation to ventilation ducts and other elements, as well as replace the cooling system, you can further reduce the noise level by 10-15 dB . But this will be very expensive and depends on the ASIC model and the location for mining.
A soundproof room will be sufficient as a noise level of 50-55 dB can be tolerated.
These solutions remain useful for those who own one or two mining devices, but for mining farms or whenever the number of miners exceeds two, it will be completely different.
133  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Securing Electrum seed phrases though Seed Extension on: April 03, 2024, 12:25:27 PM
A passphrase does not replace the seed phrase, it is only an extra layer of security and it is very recommended, because an attacker would need seed phrase + passphrase to be able to steal the funds. However, only people who know exactly what they are doing should set it up.

I think you got him wrong
Seed Extension doesn't replace  Electrum's SEED, it just extends the given SEED to add the security at the case when that SEED is caught  by someone else’s hands.

My answer was to this part, he assumed that if the wallet seed was hacked, the passphrase would make his wallet safe, so he was not careful about its security and kept it in a gmail account, and we all know how easy it is to hack these accounts.
So I explained to him in terms of entropy how relying on passphrase is not safe.

Quote
Secondly, if someone hacks his seed phrases both physically or online, that is of no use because he has seed extensions to the seed phrases which only he knows about.

134  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Is that Possible to mine crypto with ram on: April 03, 2024, 12:19:56 PM
You cannot mine cryptocurrencies using RAM (Random-access memory) because you need some computing power, so cryptocurrencies are mined using the Central Processing Unit (CPU), Graphics Processing Unit (GPU), or ASICs.
the good ones crypto cannot be mined using only your home computer, but you need to make some improvements to the hardware, then you can mine Monero, Zcash, Grin and a few crypto and to mine Bitcoin you need ASICs.
135  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Seed phrase backup against natural disaster areas on: April 03, 2024, 11:09:29 AM
I created a similar topic a year ago when Türkiye earthquake happened. Is Metal Seed Storage Safe in an Earthquake?
Metal Seed Storage with a passphrase stored in a separate place is good for fires, floods, and natural disasters, but if the disaster is like an earthquake or something that could make it impossible to recover, I think it is better to use a multi-signature wallet where you can distribute the signatures to several countries. The distribution of keys for these wallets varies according to your capabilities.
136  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Securing Electrum seed phrases though Seed Extension on: April 03, 2024, 10:58:01 AM
By storing the seed in Google, we cannot assume that this wallet is cold storage.

Your friend reduced the entropy from 128 bit key strength, which is considered safe, to about 10 non-random characters, which a person can remember.

Let us take the entropy of such a passphrase
we've got

26 small chars + 25 big chars +10 digits+3 special chars= 64 possibilities.

(64^10)/2 = 5.76460752* 1017 (entropy would be greatly reduced if social attack was used and the word was easy to guess.)
While electrum entropy
(2^128)/2 = 1.70141183 * 1038

In short, Seed Extension word that can be remembered will not be secure enough if the hacker gains access to the wallet seed.

// I modified the wording to avoid misunderstanding the phrase.
137  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Atomic Stealer - Mac OS malware that targets crypto wallets on: April 02, 2024, 12:09:15 PM

  • collection of usernames and passwords from browser login data
  • the ability to pull credit card details
  • stealing data from a list of installed crypto wallets, among which are Ledger and Trezor
This is another reason not to use the browser to remember sensitive data, it is better to encrypt passwords in a file or use an open source password manager.

There is no information about this on how atomic stealer can steal those data from these HW. But i'm guessing it's only possible in the installed software like ledger live and trezor suit since there's no way those hardware can be infected with malware.

I think the report means Ledger and Trezor Extension, and since a fake version of the web browser was downloaded, all the extensions in it will inevitably be unsafe.
138  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Transfer from bitcoin-qt to Trezor via Electrum on: April 02, 2024, 11:52:00 AM
I would prefer to choose Ubuntu or any open source OS, but if you do the first step successfully, then 2,3,4 steps are correct.in Electrum import the private key with this command: p2pkh:<<private key1>>

140  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: prefork coins on: April 01, 2024, 11:12:20 AM

You can import your seedphrase there after safely downloading the wallet and access your BCH coins.
Do not do this, it is better to move your coins to a new address and then import the private key (not wallet seed) of the address that contains forked bitcoin.
Electron Cash is developed by an unknown developer and the code has not been reviewed sufficiently, so it is best to avoid installing it on a device that contains your Electrum wallet files.
