122  Bitcoin / Pools / BTC Guild - pending or immature field? on: September 04, 2014, 07:46:08 PM
I have only been mining for a couple of months. I like BTC Guild because it seems to have a great reputation. I mined at Ghash for a while but their reputation on this forum is rather poor and they apparently have a history of being low on ethics but 1 thing I really liked was the frequency that the balance increased. It was much faster than BTC Guild. It takes hours for my account balance to update on BTC Guild. I don't know if this due to pool size differences.

I compared the returns from Ghash and BTC guild and after a short time they come out the same. The only difference is the frequency of updates to the balance.

I have way more anxiety waiting for the available balance to increase than the size of my mining operation warrants but anxiety none the less. I look at the numbers on the dashboard and the numbers on the PPLNS stats page but really not sure how to figure out what's coming. So I find myself anxiously mashing away at the dashboard button at an embarrassing frequency looking for the next update of the balance field.

The one other SHA-256 pool I've tried had a pending field on the website that shows the amount that will show up in the available balance amount eventually. It updated often enough that I didn't stress the next amount. This pool was relatively new and had reliability issues that I couldn't deal with. Two scrypt pools I'm in each have pending or immature fields that show what is going to be added to the available balance soon. This may be because of conversion of scrypt coins to bitcoins. Not sure.

I like the reliability and reputation of BTC Guild and want to call it home but the anxiety. Hopefully I'm not the only anxious for an update person. Any chance of adding a pending or immature field that updates every half hour or what ever time span is realistic. Undecided

123  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Antminer S1 cannot connect to any pool Please HELP on: September 03, 2014, 07:24:22 PM
Reset with the small button on the controller board back to factory defaults. The default IP is 192.168.1.99 it should have a sticker with this IP unless it is an old S1. Connect using this and set up your gateway, netmask etc. Turn it off and on. It should start mining with the factory pool settings. Somewhere somebody loves this kind of behavior. If it mines at least you know it isn't broken. If it doesn't mine you should start posting pictures of your pool settings. If they are good probably network settings.

I had a weird problem where I couldn't get an S1 to mine unless I setup a wireless connection in addition to the cabled connection I was using to communicate with it. The S1 has been happily mining this way for months now. I never did figure out what caused this if anyone has any ideas. Try wireless connection. Maybe this will work for you to.
Good luck.
124  Bitcoin / Hardware / Suggestions on where to Buy Antminer S3s from trustworthy seller. on: August 29, 2014, 05:26:02 PM
Anybody know a trustworthy seller of S3s for immediate shipments and pre-orders.
125  Economy / Service Discussion / Coinbase exchange BTC to USD takes about a week to show up in my bank account on: August 27, 2014, 06:21:38 PM
I'm new to Coinbase and use them to transfer BTC from online wallet to US dollars in my bank account. It takes, counting weekends, about 6 days for the money to show up in my bank. Does anyone know of a faster alternative to Coinbase with reasonable fees?
126  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: mining.BitcoinAffiliatenetwork.com - we're giving away 1 Antminer S3 every day! on: August 26, 2014, 04:32:46 PM
Well I'll be darned! I just got my Antminer S3! I was the second winner and honestly I really didn't take the whole drawing thing very seriously but here we are. UPS guy knocked at the door and boom, brand new Antminer S3!

It shipped on August 18 and got here on the 25th. I haven't hooked it up yet but anyway, anyone interested in buying an Antminer S1? Smiley I haven't done any mods to it; I'd just rather run the S3 on its PSU slot than the S1 and hey, it should be a good piece of kit if you get that S3 upgrade kit from Bitmaintech!
Congrats! :-D

Looks like the pool is settling down now and running fine. Nice to hear users are getting their S3s!
127  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: is scrypt mining worth it? on: August 25, 2014, 09:13:56 PM
I hate to say it but I found a rather stupid error in my calcs. Got a clue as to what the answer should be on website at http://cryp.today/. Not really expecting profit with 150 KH/s. Looking for potential for profit. Still working on projections but making more sense now that stupid mistake is corrected.

Haven't looked at power costs yet. Looking for advice on mining hardware that's reasonably efficient with watts and affordable upfront for small time at home miner.
128  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / is scrypt mining worth it? on: August 25, 2014, 07:13:14 PM
I bought a dual miner, 70 KH/s to see what could be expected from scrypt mining. Also put some cpus running Linux and minerd online and pointed all of my impressive 150 KH/s at clevermining that auto switches to most profitable scrypt coins. Payout is in Bitcoin. Payout has been very small. I don't see how anyone can do this at a profit. Am I missing something?
I already mine Bitcoin with some antminer S1s and initially tested the waters with a U1+ antminer. The U1+ had no ROI worth mentioning but showed the potential for more powerful mining equipment. The S1s are showing enough potential to buy some S3s. I'm not seeing the same potential in scrypt mining. So many are doing it, I'm thinking I must be missing something. I want to understand how to approach scrypt mining or maybe just leave it to others. Any help? I've only looked at gridseed miners because they look affordable. Is there better hardware to start small with that will show some potential?

It's been good until very recently and not that bad now. I'm staying and supporting the effort.
131  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Are miners HODLers? on: August 21, 2014, 11:05:48 PM
I mine and sell immediately. Very new and small time. I need cash for equipment and bills. Hell, I need gas to get to my day job. Seems like when equipment is offered for BTC instead of USD the sellers view of the exchange rate makes the equipment cost more than if I pay USD. At least so far. Guess I'm stupid for now.
132  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: mining.BitcoinAffiliatenetwork.com - we're giving away 1 Antminer S3 every day! on: August 21, 2014, 09:28:09 PM
The website home page still shows:
Db maintenance... pool is still up! Be back in a few minutes!

I was able to connect using the link at the beginning of these posts:
The public pool statistics are here: https://mining.bitcoinaffiliatenetwork.com/index.php?page=statistics&action=pool

From there I was able to get to the login page and after logging in got to my dashboard, pool stats, etc.

Every thing was verrryyy slowww.
Think i'll leave this website alone for awhile now that I've had my statistics fix. :\

payouts still showing up in my wallet thus happy Smiley

Nervous that website is down.

I think I've become a PPS fan on this pool! Payouts higher than I'm used to.
135  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: mining.BitcoinAffiliatenetwork.com - we're giving away 1 Antminer S3 every day! on: August 21, 2014, 05:27:15 PM
I haven't been able to connect to the website for this pool since yesterday. Payouts are still showing up in my wallet but no website is disturbing.

Correction, I connect but all I see is:
Db maintenance... pool is still up! Be back in a few minutes!

137  Bitcoin / Mining support / Network problem antminer S1 only mines with wifi on: August 20, 2014, 08:02:31 PM
All my antminers have the reset button so I reset them to default settings and connect with a browser to the default ip address. Then I change it, reboot and connect with a browser to the new ip address. Config the miner but it wont mine. I am communicating with it fine but it wont mine. I started a wifi connection to see if it would mine this way and it started mining.

So now I 1st set up a cabled connection between my router and the antminer to perform initial setup and get the wifi running and they don't mine until the wifi is going. I am pretty network challenged. Anybody know whats up with only being able to mine with wifi connection? They all have both a cabled connection with a fixed ip address and a wireless connection where DHCP assigns the ip address. Weird. I don't get it. :-P
