Now SBF is in a really troubling situation:

The hackers who breached Riot Games last week are asking for $10 million not to leak the stolen source code for the company’s popular League of Legends online game.

There are rumours he is cleaning his couches and sofas in the hope of finding some change to bail them out.

Rumours are brewing that Apple has begun scanning your local harddrives for images (or possibly other data it deems inappropriate):

Apple Has Begun Scanning Your Local Image Files Without Consent

From personal experience I already know that Microsh*t is scanning every mail you send or receive and every webpage you visit in real-time.

Then again, if you have nothing to hide - you have nothing to worry - right?

Wot?

I do not use Mac or any apple products because I don't want to enter their eco-system cycle and spend thousands of bucks.
But I use Windows on My PC, and I never knew Microsoft scanned my emails. Is it based on your personal experience only?
If so, How do you know and how to you understand it? Can you refer me to any articles?

Like WTF? Where are we?
I am afraid of Linux interface because I heard that it's hard to find software for Linux. That's why I use windows because I can find windows software easily.

Some years ago I was tasked to find the reason why a customers unsubscribe links in a newsletter always get clicked and why.
Found the company offering the newsletter did not confirm the unsubscribe ("Are you sure" instead of a straight "Thanks for unsubscribing") and therefor the local windows defender (for which I haven't found a way to disable it - which means shit as I have no clue of windows) reported all links from the mail to the cloud and the cloud then triggered the unsubscribe by accessing the link while the customer read the newsletter.

I then setup a dummy website and sent the customer a mail with a link to that website and once the customer started to read the mail an amazon IP requested that exact very random link from there. I have since learned that Microsoft uses some amazon IPs to request such links, as the more professional crims deliver unsuspecting content when they see a security firm requesting i.e. an otherwise malicious resource. Funny enough the crims know very well which amazon IPs belong to Microsoft for scanning and avoid them which I learned when I googled those IPs that I had collected while testing.
I later was told by somebody I trust that the same is true for the web browsers and other mail clients than outlook. I personally can only say for sure that outlook does it, the rest is heresay.

Actually Linux might have all you need in terms of software, and it even installs much easier, quicker and safer from the package repository than the mess of different utilities that you have to download from dozens of shady websites to get a minimally useable windows.

A self-professed hacker who runs an Apple laptop and macOS, instead of a customized/secure Linux setup, is not a very wise hacker in my book.

Just sayin'.

Couldn't agree more.
And when you ask one of these hackers why they have a Mac they will tell you how slick the Macbook XY is, how long the battery lasts and what a joy the keyboard is and on top of that it's so incredibly fast. Also they let you know that they found Apple not to be that bad (I agree somewhat on the level where burglars are not as bad as massmurderers) and that MacOS is actually pretty nifty and cool and it doesn't stop there you can even run windows on it..
Had these chats, don't miss them.

If security is really a priority for a system, I use OpenBSD as it comes already pretty hardened and locked down and the code is getting constantly audits.

...which isn't even an excuse for not using Linux anyway. If you love the Macbook XYZ so much just put a Linux distro on it and watch it run even smoother than MacOS...

Yeah, they'll counter that they have Ubuntu running in a VM on it  Grin
Seriously though if one needs to run a Mac application - for example for the job - I get it, as the other way around (running MacOS in a VM on a non-Apple host) is close to impossible.

Hm, my transaction from broker to wallet (2.4 sat/byte) is still unconfirmed after one hour  Huh
Not that i worry, but this is the first time i didn't receive at least one confirmation within at least 30 minutes...
Mining WO's, is there something up that i missed?

the sl program is available on most linux/bsd distributions as package/port, i.e. on debian based systems just 'apt-get install sl', the rest is just 'alias btc-price=sl -l'

The other direction for that train would be MOAR better.

I find this kinda nitpicking, but not going to argue there, lets go the other way then.

129  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: The Lightning Network node experience on: January 08, 2023, 08:52:13 PM

In that regard; do you calculate capacity as just your own LN balance or total inbound + total outbound?

The 0.4 mentioned are total inbound + outbound.
130  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: The Lightning Network node experience on: January 08, 2023, 04:53:18 PM
Lightning seems to pick up steam, at least since December I see an noteable uptick in routing events that I can't pinpoint to any new channel or whatsoever..

I have my node since Sep 2021, since about a year the capacity is ~0.4 BTC.

These are my routing stats for 2022:

These are for the first days of January 2023:

And to put that into context, my total stats since Sep 2021 are:

Quote
Total: 4,605.266 Sats
Transactions: 625

I am curious how this continues to unfold.

I recently posted about cars spying on their passengers and drivers..

It gets even "better":

..
At this point, we started a group chat and all began to work with the goal of finding vulnerabilities affecting the automotive industry. Over the next few months, we found as many car-related vulnerabilities as we could. The following writeup details our work exploring the security of telematic systems, automotive APIs, and the infrastructure that supports it.
..

https://samcurry.net/web-hackers-vs-the-auto-industry/

So I guess just building a robust and repairfriendly car got way too easy, they need new and more innovative ways to totally f*ck it up.

This lets the Pinto look like the most (cyber-)secure car ever produced  Grin

Poor SBF needs some pocket money to pay the lawyers:

I mean seriously, what's a bit of 'economic loss' compared to the baddies that SBF faces?

Now, all above block explorers are down and Freiexchange told me that we need a working block explorer to stay listed there (trading is halted currently) and I guess other exchanges will have similar concerns soon.

That's stupid.

There isn't a need for a blockchain explorer IMO.  Those are just for convenience.  People/exchanges can use the wallet directly to monitor transactions.

We (AltQuick.com) don't give two shits about a public explorer, and our FLO exchange will remain operating as usual.

https://altquick.com/market/Florincoin

That's great to hear that FLO will stay listed on AltQuick, greatly appreciated.
Though I understand the requirement from (some) exchanges, it last but not least shows some community commitment to a coin which apparently FLO is lacking right now.

Also, personally I miss the ability to link to stored txdata with a URL directly instead of digging this out with rpc commands.

It seems quite some people have notarized data in the FLO blockchain and it is surprising that none of them is interested in a public block explorer.

At the moment there seems to be no more block explorer working that allows to see the FLO data tx messages:

http://network.flo.cash/ : Connection refused
https://livenet.flocha.in/ : Cannot GET /
https://flo.tokenview.com/en/: Works, but doesn't show FLO data

Are there any plans to get one of the BEs that show FLO data back online?

TIA

I am willing to operate one, but due to the size of the VPS required I would need some donations from the community as I can't afford this currently from my own pocket, or ideally a single sponsorship that gets a clickable bannner at the bottom of every page in turn for covering the VPS cost.

EDIT:
Looks like Musk will be out of Twitter / as head if he sticks to his poll result. Can't see Tesla shareholders giving him much time to sort things out and possibly wanting him gone from there also.

may I introduce the new twitter CEO to you:

IIRC he (who shall not be named, aka 'Elmo' resp. 'Space Karen') had to promise to name a CEO until a certain date when the takeover was in dispute (can't find the link anymore, sorry), so it seems as he _had_ to step down as CEO - now he's just making a big show of what he had to do in near future anyway.

Though the 'birdsite' mocking on Mastodon is great fun to watch in the meantime.. (right now the Fediverse gets around 1 new user every second and Elmo is apparently panicking about it).

Peak FUD (<= bottom is in):

<snip>
(Bloomberg) -- Crypto-assets that promised radical change in how people pay, save and invest have turned into the “bubble of a generation,” highlighting the need for stricter regulation and risk management, according to European Central Bank Executive Board member Fabio Panetta.

<snip>

Crypto-assets should also be taxed according to their social costs, according to Panetta.

<snip>

I agree, it should quickly get taxed before going to total irrelevance..

Staff representatives at the European Central Bank are disappointed that a planned pay rise doesn’t make up for inflation that’s currently five times the official 2% target.

I am tempted to recommend them to dca into BTC, but I am not sure how well that advice would be received.

I'd like to share the brilliant wisdom of the ECB with the WO. (You know the "whatever it takes" money printing and bond buying type of "experts"):

The value of bitcoin peaked at USD 69,000 in November 2021 before falling to USD 17,000 by mid-June 2022. Since then, the value has fluctuated around USD 20,000. For bitcoin proponents, the seeming stabilization signals a breather on the way to new heights. More likely, however, it is an artificially induced last gasp before the road to irrelevance – and this was already foreseeable before FTX went bust and sent the bitcoin price to well below USD16,000.

^emphasis mine

So, they are actually saying I'm better off with their shitcoin Euro?

* psycodad reconsiders for a moment - and discards.

I'll try that irrelevance thing.
