121  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER U3 Discussion and Support Thread on: October 31, 2015, 10:02:51 AM
Hi .Anto.

this looks like the PSU is unable to provide the Power (i.e. Shortcut detection).
For saftey it switch down.

The Reason for this behavior can be a non perfect Power Cable to the Miner.
Use your Fluke to Measure the resistans of the inner Pin of the Cable as well as the Ground Line.
If you are able to do it, solder the wire directly to the Miner and connect it to the Meanwell.
I use Meanwell over 10 Years now on Industrial Machines, they are verry good.
I got two problems with the USB Miner in the past, first Zombie (was related to a typical chinese cheap
USB cable and I had to try out 10 Cables to find a good one) and second a PSU Cable wich got intermittet
high resistance and the wire was to thin inside. The outside of that cable was looking quite good.

There is also a chance that one elctrolytic capacitor got a high resistance and need change.
Internaly the miner got a Voltage Regulator (switching type) and they need low RMS capacitor.

Hope that helps.

Thanks o_solo_miner for your suggestion.

I suspected the power cable and the electrolytic capacitors as well. I actually planned to solder better and shorter power cables to cope with high current and change all of 4 electrolytic capacitors. But that is actually just a workaround for the problem that I can try. I think there is something horribly wrong in the design of the miner, especially the parts managing the power supply. So there is still high chance that the workaround would not entirely solve the problem.

Cheers,

Anto

I wish bitmain would make a entrance into thread and tell us.... but I doubt it.   And I doubt anyone has schematic and if they do it will be NDA'd.   I think most likely you would have to reverse engineer it to get the schematic.
Yes. I doubt that too. I guess Bitmain is just waiting for somebody to come up with the solution and apply it to their shitty product. So I seriously doubt that somebody who has the solution would share it anywhere in the internet. I am sure I will not even if Bitmain would pay me for that.

You can see the miner LED was flashing on a regular interval and hear the squeaking noise at the same interval on the video on this link (I have no idea how to properly insert the video on this forum). You also see that the LED indicator on the power supply was flashing at the same interval. The fan was practically not moving due to no power coming to the miner.

No comment at all on the video of my Antminer U3 squeaking? Is that what you guys who experienced it, see and hear as well?

I think that shows the extreme condition which makes Antminer U3 stops hashing or zombie-ing in CGMiner term. My miners regularly stop hashing (or zombied) as well without squeaking. Some guys confirmed this on this discussion thread. I think the root cause of the issues is the same. So if we could fix this, e.g. by soldering additional components, we would be able to get stable miners. Does anybody know the schematic of Antminer U3, stole it from Bitmain for instance Smiley ?

124  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER U3 Discussion and Support Thread on: October 28, 2015, 12:34:35 PM
I finally got the squeaking noise on one of my Antminer U3' this morning.

In short, it looks like something has gone wrong in the whole miner. So I think the problem is not particularly on the USB interface. When Antminer U3 squeaks, it seems that it fails to draw the power, or something is just stuck and oscillating. I am using Mean Well RS-150-12 power supply which can supply up to 12.5 A of current with the voltage set at exactly 12 V. So I am quite sure that the problem is not because of the power supply. I am using that power supply as I thought that the brick power supply which comes with the miner has something to do with the instability when I experienced that at the beginning. I guess I am wrong on this.

When the squeaking noise starts, the miner software (BFGMiner in my case) does not realise that. We can only see the hashing rates of the affected miner (AMU 0 in this case) increases (from around 14 GH/s per chip up to 16 GH/s on the picture below). I use that as an indicator that the miner is dying.

FYI, I can only see the video properly being rendered on Firefox browser. After a couple of hours, I gave up trying to figure out why it does not render on Chromium (possibly Chrome as well) and Opera. I didn't try M$ Internet Explorer. So if you had problem seeing the video, I think your best option is to save the video file and play that offline on your video player.
125  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: Nexious.com- Premier Mining Pool - Pays Tx, PPLNS, Block Finder Bonus! 0% Fee on: October 27, 2015, 08:10:25 PM
Nexious has been manually adjusting the account fees to 0%. I'm sure it will be adjusted or you.
Well... I am not sure about that. I have been mining on this pool for more than 32 hours, or 2 night times in New Zealand, but I have not seen any changes on my account as promised.

The people who have daily jobs usually very likely to do their side job at night. Perhaps he is really busy with his daily job as he previous wrote. But if he would be serious to provide every new miners with 0% fee before the pool gets a new block, I don't think that is very hard for him to automate that.

Perhaps he saw that my hash rate is too low for his target miners. Well... I can only afford to loose that much for trying. If he indeed had that in mind, i.e. catching the big fishes instead of small fishes like me, then I am wondering if his main intention of helping to decentralise the network is genuine. I am not complaining that he is trying to make profits out of his pool. That is perfectly fine. But if that would be indeed his main intention, then don't write about helping to decentralise the network. And I am not complaining about the 1% fee. That would be perfectly fine as well if he didn't make the promise.

My rental hashing is going to stop in about 2 hours. I don't think I will extend that or move my main miner to this pool which I initially planned to do for at least a month. The hash rate of my main miner is not much anyway. But I prefer to get a tiny amount of BTC instead of nothing.
126  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: Nexious.com- Premier Mining Pool - Pays Tx, PPLNS, Block Finder Bonus! 0% Fee on: October 26, 2015, 11:13:46 AM
All accounts created before we find out first block will be converted to 0% fees!
** I have put a 1 BTC reward up for the first block finder! More info; Here **
I just created an account and started to mine using what ever BTC left on my mining rental account. Does this mean I am still eligible for 0% fees?

The main reason I asked is that, it shows on my dashboard as below that the pool fee is 1% which contradicts with what you wrote above.

Nexious was created with the intent of helping decentralize the network, as some of the larger pools had shut down.
This is the very reason I am trying your pool.

  • Anonymous Account Setting
I found this inaccurate (or perhaps I misunderstood this) as I had to register and gave out my email address. Which part of the account setting is anonymous? Please explain.

Edited: add the reason of the question about the pool fee which contradicts with what has been claimed

I would also be interested where the sound is coming from on the device specifically.  As far as I know there are no speakers on the circuit board or anything.  Is it some sort of feed back sounds from the electronics, or is it a honest beep from a speaker?
I was wondering myself when I got it the first time. I even disassembled the whole miner, split into 3 parts. There is definitely no speaker or something with diaphragm which can translate electrical wave into noise. So I couldn't figure out how that noise could come out of the electronic circuit. Is it possibly the Elco or something? But if it would be due to broken electronic components, my miners would not be able to mine normally again after I power cycle and unplug/plug the USB connector.
128  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER U3 Discussion and Support Thread on: October 26, 2015, 06:31:05 AM
It really reminds me of a short distance HV discharge.
The noise of high voltage charge/discharge is quite close to the one that I heard coming out of my Antminer U3. If you had ever opened up the back of your CRT or Tube TV, you might be familiar with that noise.
129  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / Re: BFGMiner 5.4.0: GBT+Stratum, RPC, Mac/Linux/Win64, Antminer S1-S5, Alchemist on: October 25, 2015, 10:19:38 AM
--set antminer@\\.\COM10:voltage=xNNNN or --set antminer@/dev/ttyUSB1:voltage=xNNNN

Another option is to program the CP2102 chip so they have unique serial numbers; this method would avoid problems with the device showing up on different tty/COM locations after reboot/hotplug.

./cp210x-program -w -F eeprom-content.AntU3-custom.hex --set-product-string='Antminer U3' --set-serial-number=myveryown0001

Then you can use --set antminer@myveryown0001:voltage=xNNNN

Thanks Luke.

I chose the first option as it is safer. I did a quick test and it looks like the separate settings on a single BFGMiner process work fine.

However I am still confused why BFGMiner only successfully applies the settings to AMU 0a and AMU 1a. Applying the settings to the rest of the AMUs give "Unknown option" as if the rest of the AMUs have not been detected, but they have actually already been doing the hashing. Please have a look on the relevant messages on the debug log below.

This behaviour happens also on the previous BFGMiner versions which I have already reported on your issue log

--set bfl:voltage=<whatever> should work. You really don't want to set it on all devices though - they can be very different in what is sane there - so just use bfl.

This is actually what I would like to be able to do on my 2 AntMiner U3' as each of them does not behave the same on a single setting of frequency and voltage. How would I be able to set different frequency and voltage settings for each miner on a single BFGMiner process?

I know that the workaround for this is to have 2 separate BFGMiner processes to manage the 2 miners individually.
131  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER U3 Discussion and Support Thread on: October 24, 2015, 07:59:11 AM
But my units don't make a audible sound like some mention on beeping during this same state.  So I'm curious about the beep, also which is newer the one's with or without beep.

OK. You will see and hear later on when I get that on my Antminer U3'.

Yesterday, I have been trying to create conditions for that issue to appear by using some combinations of frequency and voltage up to their maximum settings. I usually use frequency=225 MHz and voltage=0.83 Volt. Some combinations made my miners dead in a few minutes. I even let the miners dead for an hour or so, hoping that something on the USB interface would be stuck and oscillating. But I couldn't get that squeaking noise. It looks like the probability to hit that condition is very low. So I guess we just need to wait until that happens.

But I am wondering what to do next if I got that condition, a part from that I can share the video of that. I guess we need to do something more and we need to forget about getting support from Bitmain as they are really useless in giving support. I didn't see any comment or suggestion from Bitmain in trying to solve this issue.

I have been trying to get all stats figures from my miner collected via RPC and then inserted into SQL database, preferably SQLite. So that we will be able to analyse the conditions that leads to the dead of the miner. Does anybody have or know where to get a simple bash script which can do that?

cairnsmore, compac, erupter, and icarus are all tied in with antminer, so you won't be able to skip them.

Thanks Luke. That is not quite important though. I just want reduce the size of BFGMiner package to the minimum that is possible.

I just compiled BFGMiner 5.4.0 and it works fine managing my 2 AntMiner U3'.

However, I actually only want to have antminer driver for connecting to stratum server. I tried to disable all drivers but icarus using the configure option below.

Code:
CONFIGURE_ARGS += --disable-other-drivers
CONFIGURE_ARGS += --enable-icarus

But as we can see above, other drivers are still being included. How do I actually disable all drivers but only the ones for Antminer U3?

I do have the LED indicator that is red when it's mining.  But no beeps at all.
Well... I think that is the idea of the miner LED indicator which is only illuminating continuously when it is doing the tasks the miner software tells it to do. I am sure the miner LED indicator is off when it is not doing anything, e.g. you just power cycle it and reconnect USB cable without running the miner software. I am not sure how it is with CGMiner, but I would assume that the miner LED indicator is off as well when CGMiner considers it to be dead or zombie (I am not really comfortable using this term, reminds me of World War Z and I don't really know what I would do if such virus existed in reality).

When they are beeping, they are definitely Zombie'd. They go zombie without beeping as well though, so I imagine, that the beeping is related to a different set of circumstances. Without any feedback from Bitmain, it is impossible to know what the beeping is supposed to indicate.

Yes. When it squeaks (I think that is more precise than beep), it is definitely zombied (using the term of CGMiner). I always use BFGMiner as my Antminer U3' are more stable running with it. I believe it also happens with CGMiner as I am quite sure this is a hardware flaw. But I just tried CGMiner 4.9.2 for about two days, so I cannot confirm whether this phenomena happens also with CGMiner or not.

I have 2 Antminer U3' batch 2 with the wire cage, and both of them have experienced the squeaking noise. Each of them does that noise possibly once in a week or two, randomly and not at the same time. When that happens, the miner LED indicator (the one close to the fan connector) is flashing on and off at regular interval following the squeaking noise which is also on and off at the same interval. It looks like something related to the USB interface is stuck and oscillating at low frequency.

If you guys are interested to see and hear what I experience, I will record and post the video here next time when I get that.

There is something odd with u3, if i unplug psu, it continues beeping, untill i reconnect usb.
I also experience this quite often, not everyday though. I really wonder where that beeping or squeaking noise comes from. It seems like something is trying to pull the current much more than what the USB port can give. Before I disassemble or do something bad on one of my Antminer U3' trying to figure this out, which will very likely just become another electronic junk, did anybody investigate this mystery?

I am sorry for being lazy. Does anybody have or know where to get a script to collect the statistic from BFGMiner via RPC and parse it into SQLite database? If so, would it be possible to share that with us? Thanks a lot in advance.

Code:
C:\bfgminer530>bfgminer-rpc "pgaset|1,clock,x0982"
Perhaps a bit out of topic, but where did you get that bfgminer-rpc program from, Mike?

It's bundled with BFGMiner - should be on your router too! Wink

Thanks Luke,

I must be a really ignorant guy. I have been searching for a simple RPC client to query BFGMiner, but in fact it is always there under my nose.  Smiley

Code:
root:~$ opkg files bfgminer

I think you need to decide Luke how you would set the version of the latest git. Perhaps something like including the commit SHA for instance bfgminer-5.3.0-3f30343 for the above example.

Luke,

I think I have to decide myself how the versioning should look like. However, what I did is very quick and dirty just to see if it works. I need to find more elegant way before I pull request it, so that I will just need to do "make package/bfgminer/{clean,compile,install}" later on regardless of whatever you will do on your repository.
