I'm curious why people are still using this service when it seems pretty clear that it doesn't work. Is your mixer different than others in some way or did a university student just ruin your entire industry?

You can generate a private key by rolling dice and entering the result at bitaddress.org.

An important part of creating a Bitcoin wallet is ensuring the random numbers used to create the wallet are truly random. Physical randomness is better than computer generated pseudo-randomness. The easiest way to generate physical randomness is with dice. To create a Bitcoin private key you only need one six sided die which you roll 99 times. Stopping each time to record the value of the die. When recording the values follow these rules: 1=1, 2=2, 3=3, 4=4, 5=5, 6=0. By doing this you are recording the big random number, your private key, in B6 or base 6 format. You can then enter the 99 character base 6 private key into the text field above and click View Details. You will then see the Bitcoin address associated with your private key. You should also make note of your private key in WIF format since it is more widely used.


That's essentially what I do, although on an air-gapped system of course.

Roll a die 99x or flip a coin 256x. For a die you just convert the 6 to a 0 and you can plug it right into bitaddress. For the coin toss choose whether heads is going to be a 1 or a 0. I think I tried to input binary on bitaddress and it didn't work properly, but anyway it's probably just quicker to convert it to hex before inputting it anyway. There are simple guides on how to do it manually or you can always use that air-gapped system to compute it as well.

I've done it many times and will continue to do so. Unfortunately, going from private to public key then public key to address is never going to happen with pen and paper. That's okay though! I've come to terms with it.

You could also use a segwit address. I've been eyeing https://segwitaddress.org/bech32 and will try to make a bech32 paper wallet soon.

I agree that I'd be fine with you holding onto donations, although I don't really know what the donations would be used for.

It's ~impossible to preemptively detect all cases like that, and very difficult to do even a halfway-decent job. That guy isn't even trying to link to "bitcointalk.org". So it's whack-a-mole. That's why the green highlight was added: it's easier to whitelist than blacklist.

Even better would be to just not click links. Ever. Just copy and paste the URL if you actually trust it. If you don't know what it links do don't click it. It's really just that simple.

On the other hand I understand that it's hard to teach the general public this basic security. Most people aready screw up an even bigger issue, like reusing the same 8 digit password on every website and saving it in their browser. Ugh.

I say use the same system. I have 10 sMerits and I can either use them do downgrade someone's merit or I can use them to increase someone's merit. Will there be rampant abuse? Probably. That doesn't make the idea any less solid.

Nowadays, for the opportunist people, nothing impossible for them to deceive others here. By making fake news especially in doing fake volume was easy for them to do it I guess. And according to what you had showed here it is obviously not the real image of Bitcoin as well.

The death wasn't faked. I can say that with 99% confidence. Was it suspicious? Of course. Gerald is dead though. This doesn't mean that Patryn doesn't have anything to do with it. He's a shady character to say the least.

That being said, the money isn't lost because private keys were lost. The money is gone. It was being syphoned out for a long time before Gerald passed away. This had already been confirmed via blockchain analysis, their lawyers etc.

An investigation is being conducted by the RCMP and FBI so I'm assuming we'll get more answers after a long time.

How can you be so sure about him being dead. Are there written statements of people who saw the body, or were able to verify that there really was a funeral?
If the money was being syphoned it means that either the CEO wasn't the only one who had access, or that he was stealing it himself and got killed by someone who found out about it and wanted the money for himself. An accomplice maybe?

Yeah but I wouldn't trust any exchange or business that decided to give into a Bitlisence. You do know that those exchanges are basically banks, right? All of your KYC is handed over right away, even if you don't live in New York.

Honestly, fuck that. I'm not American and I don't need the American government looking through my KYC documents for no reason at all. This narrows the exchanges down significantly, but at least there are still decent options.

Unless they're announcing that Overstock will be sold on the Ravencoin blockchain to anonymous investors, I don't think this price will hold very much longer.
I thought that they could use RVN on tZero like coin for doing IEO-s.

I'm sure they will.  This was the assumption that got RVN it's 300 satoshi value.  Maintaining the recent highs would have needed an announcement along the lines of, 'We are going to list Overstock shares for sale on tZero using Ravencoin's blockchain and will be paying out future dividends in RVN'.  I do not believe this will happen anytime soon, so it's buckle up your seatbelts and hope that the price holds in the 600 satoshi range once this correction comes to fruition. 

Or maybe we're going to be listed on Coinbase on Monday!

I'm fully expecting a few ATHs over the next short while then we'll see a downward trend for quite a while.
