121  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / Re: CGminer Bitcoin/Litecoin Crash on: September 28, 2012, 08:06:00 AM
Oh no kidding, I must be blind. I see the new version now Smiley thanks again. Ill load it up now.

Ive been on Bitparking pool. I really don't know what a good one is to use. I have a fairly decent internet connection via cable, so I dont think its on my end. Never have any latency issues. I was thinking of swapping pools regardless. Any recommendations?
122  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / Re: CGminer Bitcoin/Litecoin Crash on: September 28, 2012, 04:19:07 AM
I couldnt find version 2.7.6 for windows. I looked at the github link in the main thread about CGminer, but all I found was 2.7.5 for windows. Maybe I missed it?

But I am currently on 2.7.5 Smiley

But yeah I figured I was running it to hard. I just didnt understand why I could hash at 330 on it for Bitcoin, but not Litecoin.

Before I added this ATI 5850 in today, all I had was the 6750. The 6750 would hash at 160 for litecoin and bitcoin no problem. This made me question why I couldnt do the same for the newly added 5850 as well.

And thank you for the advice Smiley

Any thoughts on why I would be crashing mining litecoin though trying to get the same hashrate? Its beyond me Smiley

-Ryan

Don't know nothing about lightcoin.  But I thought copycat coins hashed at different rates than bitcoin?

I would drop the memclock on your dedicated card to around 250-300Mhz for bitcoin.
Sam

Nice I just did that and it actually raised my hashrate by 10. And its running cooler to boot! Ty for the great tip! Smiley

I would use I:9 on your dedicated card and I:6 on your Desktop card...

Alright, ill give it a shot Smiley

Im back! Got it up and running. I think... lol having some issues mining litecoin now though. I made another thread about it, but ill go ahead and copy it in here as well.

(copied this from my other thread)

When I mine for bitcoin, and I get the speculated hashrates as I should. I use this command line, and it seems to work ok.

cgminer.exe -o http://mmpool.bitparking.com:15098 -u username -p password -I 8,d -w 256 -g 1 --auto-fan --queue 1 --temp-target 70 --temp-overheat 80 --gpu-fan 75-85 --gpu-engine 850 --gpu-memclock 1150 --shaders 1440,720

Heres a Screenshot of it working

When I use the same command line but for Litecoin, and of course I change the intensity I crash.
(The reason I like to mine litecoin sometimes is because when I just had the 6750 card I felt I would get a better turn around mining Litecoin. I would then just trade them into Bitcoin. Not sure if was working out better for me or not, but I was just having some fun playing on the exchange market since this is all new to me Smiley

cgminer --scrypt -o http://mine.pool-x.eu:8080 -u username -p password -I 18,d -w 256 -g 1 --auto-fan --queue 1 --temp-target 70 --temp-overheat 80 --gpu-fan 75-85 --gpu-engine 850 --gpu-memclock 1150 --shaders 1440,720

(no need for a screenshot)

Anything above intensity 12 makes me crash while mining litecoin. I can get the ATI 5850 mining litecoin at around 250 mhash/s without a crash. Anything above that locks my computer. I can get my bitcoin mining to the desired mhash/s at around 330, and be just fine. I dont understand why mining litecoin would crash my system at the desired mhash/s of 330ish.

Any incite would be much appreciated. If my command line needs help, please feel free to toss some constructive criticism my way Smiley Ill take any help I can get!

Thanks for taking the time to look this over!

-Ryan

P.S. I'm aware my GPU 1 (ATI 6750) runs ridiculously hot, but Im ok with that. The card is lo profile card with a crappy Heatsink and fan. Not much I can do about it. Figured I'd burn that mother till its dead lol Smiley

Hey all,

Any help would be much apperciated. Heres my issue.

I recently added a second video card into my computer. I am now running a ATI 6750, and a ATI 5850

When I mine for bitcoin, and I get the speculated hashrates as I should. I use this command line, and it seems to work ok.

(no need for a screenshot)

Anything above intensity 12 makes me crash while mining litecoin. I can get the ATI 5850 mining litecoin at around 250 mhash/s without a crash. Anything above that locks my computer. Yeah thats what I have been doing with my single 6750 card now. Using the -d setting, That seems like a good plan to set both at -d and see what happens. Ty as well!

130  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: ATI 5850 - Looking for assistance on: September 26, 2012, 11:54:48 AM
Is it just as simple as putting in the 5850 into the next PCI-E slot over, and powering the machine on? Also, how will CGminer know what card to use?

That's pretty much it really, you may need to install drivers for the 5850, but otherwise CGminer will detect all OpenCL compatible cards. You will probably want to write a batch file to open CGminer with the settings you want for fan control and whatnot.

Alright thank you! Yeah I have a bunch of different .bat files Ive written to excute different setting depending on the environment I want to mine with at currently.

But is there a setting within CGminer that tells it not to use one card, but use another? Im not sure if it defaults to use every card possible, or not. Im trying to just use the 5850.

Mind you I dont have the card in my hands currently. I wont have it until tomorrow, but I was just trying to get some good info in advance to be ready Smiley
131  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / ATI 5850 - Looking for assistance on: September 26, 2012, 11:44:05 AM
My friend sold me an ATI 5850 for $60 bucks. I planned on using it to mine for a few months before ASIC hits. I am also a gamer, so it will hold value to me even after I cant mine with it anymore.

Currently I am using an ATI 6750 just to do some light gaming, and mine at night.

I was planning on adding the 5850 as a second card in my system, and mine with it 24/7 until my Jalapeno arrives. I may also order a SC Single too. Still unsure of that though. But thats going off topic.

My question is how do I go about setting this up? Ive never ran a computer with 2 video cards before. I am however very tech savy, just never dabbled with multiple GPUs. I would like to keep my existing 6750 as my desktop/gaming card while using the 5850 to mine while I game, and go about my business for day to day use. Is it just as simple as putting in the 5850 into the next PCI-E slot over, and powering the machine on? Also, how will CGminer know what card to use? Im still pretty newbish when it comes to CGminer, but I have toyed around with the settings quite bit trying different command lines to get the best performance out of my 6750 in my attempts to learn about mining.

Any information would be helpful. If I failed to be detailed about something let me know, and Ill be glad to fill in any information I left out that would allow for better assistance. Smiley

Thank you!

I can justify 150 bucks. As much as I want an SC, I cant see myself shelling out that kind of money until I at least see this Jalapeno. Im still very skeptical on its arrival. Since Im currently order number 9030, even if I did order Im looking at months and months before I would get it. Ill just wait it out, and see if this Jalapeno shows up or not. Once people are showing off their pictures of the SC, I'll go ahead and order.

Well I bit the bullet, and ordered 1 Jalapeno. $150+shipping is something I can afford to lose. As for the SC, Ill just wait it out.

My order # was 9030 if anyone wanted to know what they are up to.

Interesting find, would love to hear BFLs response. However, if anything this would make you more secure in being able to get a paypal refund, because the seller appears to be violating paypal's policy. I dont think this is an increased risk for you as a buyer, quite the contrary.

That said, its probably wise to think 2 or 3 times before ordering. Not because I think its a scam (I dont believe it is), but because I very much doubt many miners will get a positive ROI on their asics.

Thats what I was sorta wondering too because they are clearly violating the terms. Makes me wonder how they are even able to take pre-orders through paypal currently.
136  Other / Off-topic / Butterfly Labs Pre-Sales Not Covered by Paypal? on: September 22, 2012, 10:22:10 PM
Hey all,

Bufferfly labs released a picture of their Jalapeno via their Facebook page yesterday. Here https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=471626712869140&set=a.471626709535807.109652.470018806363264&type=1&theater

I've been so back and forth in weather or not I should pre-order. I truly want an ASIC SC Single like there's no tomorrow, but still scared to throw 1,300 dollars down on an item we know very little about. I figure do a tester Jalapeno sale first. I also think you myself, "Hell, Ill just pay with Paypal. I'll be protected!" But I am now finding out this is not the case. I pulled this up right from PayPal's website.

Does PayPal permit transactions for pre-sale items?

Pre-sale items are advertised for sale before the seller has the items. Often, these items are sold before they are available to the general public. Or, the seller uses the funds from the sale to purchase the item that has already been sold.

PayPal permits pre-sales on a limited basis, only if the seller guarantees delivery within 20 days from the date of purchase and clearly identifies the item as a pre-sale. PayPal may apply additional conditions, such as proof of the seller's ability to successfully deliver the product: supplier information, purchase invoices, postal information or proof of delivery.

So I don't know what to do Sad. I currently have 1 6750 video card, and it takes me 20 days to get 1 bitcoin hahaha. I finally hit .5 just today lol! I really want to get going here, but keep finding myself questioning doing a pre-order. Its pretty lame I can't just put in a pre-order, and have ease of mind. I also thought about doing this: Order up a FPGA Single, and then next month put in an upgrade order for the SC Single paying the difference. This way I can mine a "little bit faster" now, but also be able to trade in if and when ASICs hits. But then again, ordering at the end of next month puts me so far back at the end of the line. What to do what to do... I also found this link that someone posted on the Butterfly Labs Facebook page from the Bitcoin conference.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bT-smMzg54k&feature=colike

This video seems a little reassuring even if I ordered later.

BAH! I feel like Im stuck between a rock and a hard spot on what I can do to get going here as as fast as possible. You all have scared me that Butterfly Labs may be a scam, yet I want to believe they will deliver on these ASICs very badly. Plus I want to get going asap due to my lack of hardware. .5 coins in 10 days just sucks hahaha.

Anyways the primary point of this was to point out that PayPal will not back you it seems, I hope this laid out some incite for some.

137  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Bryan Micon's List of Bitcoin Scammers, Shills, and Users Not To Trust IMO on: September 20, 2012, 09:26:19 PM
The more and more I read about this BFL conspiracy, the more, and more I find myself drifting away from them.

I can see it both ways though. From their perspective, and the consumers. What I dont understand is why they are so "hush hush" about these asic devices. I've never seen a company offer to sell you something without at least backing it with proof. Is it REALLY that top secret? Ok, so if it is, then I can understand the secrecy. But were coming up on the time they are supposed to ship these things. Would it hurt for them to post a picture or two?  I donno... seems very unprofessional if this is real.

I've sent emails to them via the website, and never even get a response.  Ok, well in their defense they are probably flooded with email on a daily basis, and with their "22" employees I can see how they can't get to every single one. But from a company stand point, why not just added a *Due to the overwhelming amount of email we recieve daily we may not be able to respond in a timely fashion when submitting your form? Again, on a professional level they are filled with so many holes. I've been looking into them every single day since I found out about ASIC, and everyday I find myself questioning their operation. This is not just based on forum chatter. Its based upon how they have operated with me personally. I for one want an ASIC SC like there's no tomorrow, but I'm not going toss $1,300 at a company that can't even give a common curtsey email response. The way I see it they need to hire a PR guy. Pay the guy 10 bucks an hour to answer emails all day. They can't find someone to do that?

I donno.... for all I know the paranoia of this Bitcoin world could just be rubbing off on me. Or maybe I'm rightly justified for just wanting a little more information. I tend to lean towards my justification.  I have no plan on ever ordering from them until I get some better validation.
