121  Economy / Games and rounds / Re: Bitcoin Cipher/puzzle - 0.56 Prize ! Bitcoins on: September 19, 2015, 06:06:40 PM
Finally I managed to find the solution by searching 5Juu2CkB3XFdBzEcyH9dypNhDZ8fXgh6RQwwbo5* in 3h:50m:39s using an Intel i7-4xxx Smiley

The solution is:
#3 = XFdBz
#9 = ueBaf
#10 = eGYoMm5

I thank you very much for this interesting puzzle.

Congratulations! Did I read right that your bruteforce tool solves at a rate of 100,000 keys/s?

Another hint for combatants who are struggling like me: most of the chars in #10 are sitting in the checksum part of the B58 private key.
I'm looking at https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Wallet_import_format and don't see you can take advantage of that fact.
Don't you have to decode the base58 first before you can remove the 4 byte checksum?
Better reference: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=304645.msg3270248#msg3270248
This site here: https://gobittest.appspot.com/PrivateKey is actually quite useful for doing this. It also does everything step by step so you can understand the process.
It's just an interactive version, but it still doesn't explain how you can ignore the checksum without first decoding the entire base58 string. On a few tests with random keys, using the technique shown in the 2nd link I posted, the checksum characters on average affect the last 6 characters of the wif, but I did find a key that affected the last 9 characters.

Uh Oh. We should actually try to figure out what #3 actually is.
As I stated before there is tow versions of the book Softcover and Hardcover the PDF we used is the softcover one , but there is an error somewhere in page numbers I think . If someone can get his hand on both versions It would be great  . Or else the OP give us some help.
As I suggested earlier, you can use Amazon's "look inside" feature to grab the pages for both versions of the book.
126  Economy / Games and rounds / Re: Bitcoin Cipher/puzzle - 0.56 Prize ! Bitcoins on: August 18, 2015, 02:17:37 AM
I think the PDF is the Softcover version, we need to check the hardcover one I guess .
Some one should visit the library  Grin Grin , or buy the book (on your own risk i could be wrong) .
The hardcover version is also available on amazon, so the look inside feature is still a possibility.
127  Economy / Games and rounds / Re: Bitcoin Cipher/puzzle - 0.56 Prize ! Bitcoins on: August 18, 2015, 01:54:11 AM

If there's no online version of the book, you could use the "look inside" feature of amazon and keep selecting "surprise me" until you get to the right pages.

could someone scan the qr codes? I believe that might help.
There's no reason to believe that particular image has anything to do with this. But have at it:

Hi all,

I really enjoy this whole puzzle solving. Unfortunately I do not know much about cipher.
Just found something that might be the clue from the clue ''sometimes going back will refresh your memory''.
I repeated the process and sent an email to cipher1337@hotmail and this was the reply:

http://textuploader.com/ar082

Don't make it harder then what it really is.

LeveL: 6RQ Has been Triggered.

''And then Jesus said to Judas, your name shall forever be ''Udas''

Note that one of the confirmed sections also includes the sequence 6Rq, and the odd capitalization of "LeveL: 6RQ Has been Triggered."

I got this PM from OP:

Quote
here's some clues. these are the ones i've seen on the document which are currently Right
1 5Juu2
2 2CkB3
4 EcyH9
5 dypNh
7 gh6RQ
8 wwbo5

Also here's a Clue ''sometimes going back will refresh your memory''

Not sure if there's any significance of him using two single quotes (') instead of a double quote (") to quote that clue.

There's a number of clues that the OP is apparently PMing only to you. It would be nice if the OP would publicly confirm them here so we know we are not being misled, and to make future clues publicly here.
131  Economy / Games and rounds / Re: Bitcoin Cipher/puzzle - 0.56 Prize ! Bitcoins on: August 12, 2015, 04:18:45 PM
UPDATE: I have gone through 1/2 of my possibilities (60/120 possibilities) and I have still not gotten it however if I do, I will share some with the person who has helped the most. Probably 0.05 to 0.1 BTC, somewhere in there.

I could quickly script something to do the rest, and additionally handle any other possible inputs fairly quickly, for a small share if your current clues do find it. I can either run the code on my machine, or send it to you as source code you can run on your own machine.
That would be great. I have everything saved as a google doc right now.
Actually, never mind. I went through all 120 and they all dont work. what is the private key that we have so far?
FYI, some of us have already tested millions of variations already.
132  Economy / Games and rounds / Re: Bitcoin Cipher/puzzle - 0.56 Prize ! Bitcoins on: August 11, 2015, 10:15:15 PM
I just plugged it into my wallet for blockchain.info and it gave me that. I have figured out at least that there are 120 different possibilities for the private key. I've already gone through 50 of them and so far they all lead to bitcoin wallets with no bitcoins in them. I'm still checking though. There may be more possibilities. I just don't know.

Is there no way to brute force the combination? Maybe with the tool that was posted before? Should be easier than doing it manually..
definitely. but i doubt anybody's going to give away their competitive advantage
133  Economy / Games and rounds / Re: Bitcoin Cipher/puzzle - 0.2 Bitcoins on: August 08, 2015, 12:11:30 AM
7 and 10 are not correct , l and O characters are not allowed in bitcoin private key
Doh! Good catch.
134  Economy / Games and rounds / Re: Bitcoin Cipher/puzzle - 0.2 Bitcoins on: August 07, 2015, 11:36:20 PM
Did someone clam the 0.2 BTC prize for solving the puzzle or is it still live?
And more important, did OP pay the winner or scammed-away with the money?
Dont want to spend a lot of time solving it it has alreay been done.
Nice game though.
It's all still there. The puzzle seems to come out to the private key for the address. It would be nice if OP could add some more to the prize as this has gone on for a few days already.

I think enough of the puzzle has been solved to brute force the rest.
135  Economy / Games and rounds / Re: Bitcoin Cipher/puzzle - 0.2 Bitcoins on: August 07, 2015, 10:42:53 PM
then we get
Quote
5hee2
which looks like the beginning of a private key.
The second character in an uncompressed private key has to be one of H,J,K. If we use 'XoXo' from the hint to indicate case, we get 5HeE2.
If you decode 5hee2 with the same shift cipher as the hint, it comes out as 5juu2, and 5Juu2 would also be a valid start for a private key. Also, part of the hint was "UU EqUAl SmAll lETTErS", which further points in this direction.

If it links to a youtube video, its probably useless.. Because we found a youtube video which was just for distraction, check some posts above Cheesy

The person who posted the YouTube link dis not explain how he got it.. He probably just wanted to Rick roll us all.. I don't think that was the real link?

Agreed, there are now two different paths to the same partial youtube address, and the url of the rickrock video did not match.

The Minteye captcha stopped working about a month ago, so they should probably be removed from the list.
