121  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Klondike - 16 chip ASIC Open Source Board - Preliminary on: October 23, 2013, 08:36:05 AM
Hi all,

The firmware issue was found and fixed a few hours ago!   I've confirmed it on my test unit as have others.  ZERO HW errors and over 5gh/s @350MHz.  The K16's are a go!

I think there will be some code cleanup, boot loader and a few other more minor things yet, but I suspect all the assemblers will start pumping them out now.

Thank-you to those who kept working on the project and getting things working!!

Message me if you need K16 assembly.  I'll have parts/PCB's, not ASIC's.  I'm in Canada (west coast) and can do assembly for USA/CAN customers.

It's exciting. We have been always waiting for this good news

I would like to look into the high hardware error rate for the K16.
If anyone has a few surplus Avalon chips for sale let me know.

steamboat claimed he found the hardware issue. I really hope he can share and contribute to this project

wow, that's a great news.
steamboat, you did a great job!
What's the hardware issues with the K16 board?

I'm pretty sure I replaced C274 with a 220pF cap and I believe R45 & R46 have 383 ohm resistors.

I shipped those out at about the time we determined some working values. Does the green LED flicker once you start cgminer? It won't start submitting work until it gets it from cgminer. Firmware is installed and it should run at 350 MHz.

From your description, I don't think cgminer is working correctly. This is how I build for linux:

git clone https://github.com/kanoi/cgminer.git
cd cgminer
git checkout klondike
CFLAGS="-g -W -Wall" ./autogen.sh --enable-klondike
make

I don't have cgminer working for windows yet, it crashes. :-(

What's the average hashing rate (count only the accepted nonces ) when it's running at 350MHz and what's the HW rate?

Hopefully, there will be a working klondike cgminer soon. I think somebody is working on it.
Yes, I am.
Not sure why bogart's didn't work, but the team I'm helping a bit with, they are all getting at least some results with the klondike branch in my git.
It still needs some work, but the current code does work with the test boards in the team and gives back '=' results.

Hi, Kano, your codes work but perform with lower hashing rate and give a lot for errors like this

---------------------------------------------------------------------
 [2013-09-26 09:52:54] KLN0: GetResults (amt=0 err=-7 ern=11)
 [2013-09-26 09:52:54] KLN1: GetResults (amt=0 err=-7 ern=11)
 [2013-09-26 09:52:54] KLN0: GetResults (amt=0 err=-7 ern=11)
---------------------------------------------------------------------

I guess it's because of the modified version of libusb in the new cgminer

It looks like your not getting any accepted shares.
Has that timing capacitor been replaced on your boards ?

The klondike design is very sensitive with the nor gates and the phase shifter in front of it. It is a matter of the manufacturer of the nor gates, as well as capacitor/resistor. For less HW errors, the Tau of R and C has to fit the propagation and switching times of the nor gate, and these are sometimes higher, sometimes lower, and changing with every type of nor gate. So very hard to make this working properly....

In this case, it would be very easy to make it work by changing the R or C to meet Tau for a particular nor gate.

Exactly, but this is a very empiric process and i think nobody really wants to do this for every new nor gate.

the fact is most people ordered the nor gate listed on BKK's BOM but still nobody has lowered the HW rate to a very low level by changing the Capacitor.

@bogart, replace C274 with a 220p, or 260p capacitor

I also have several boards with all 16 chips installed. they are working with some HW when clocked over 300MHz.
If someone is interested, please PM me.

I actually have 2boards now hashing with cgminer (Ubuntu in virtual box) now, although each is hashing 20% less than if they were standalone plus the hardware errors are still there. The temperature displayed by cgminer seems to be correct now also.

Although I am also an assembler, I have also been working with Steamboat on this issue for some time. I purchased my own boards from a different pcb manufacturer and purchased my own smt equipment for this project.

What's the rate of the hardware errors you now get at around 300Mhz?
I think the high rate of HW is mainly caused by the clock delay circuit, especially the capacitor value.
136  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Klondike - 16 chip ASIC Open Source Board - Preliminary on: September 20, 2013, 05:12:39 AM
So what is the overall state of the K16 project at the moment?

EDIT: Is anyone selling bare PCBs? I have all the components x 10 except for what BKKcoins sold on his website, as I was planning to get them there. And heatsinks.

We have plenty of K16 components (complete kits minus the Avalon chips) in hand including the PCBs, heatsink and fans, chips etc.
If you are interested, please PM me.

There's no refund to the Group's address until now. There's a very high probability that the chips are shipped already.

Guess we'll have to send them back, then. We are clearly entitled to a refund.

Who will send them back while the group buy manager is missing
