121  Economy / Speculation / When the price of Bitcoin rapidly drops I... on: March 23, 2013, 03:37:04 PM
What's your "plan" and why?
122  Other / Off-topic / Re: This is now officially my favorite conspiracy theory :-) on: March 23, 2013, 03:20:35 PM
That is fantastically done. Smiley
123  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin Merchants Increasing on: March 23, 2013, 12:54:20 AM
Well then, add yourself to the page:
https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Trade

Funny you should mention that, I just tasked one of our team members to do that today. I like how the wiki requires a small donation to cut down on spam. We should be listed in the shopping cart section after the weekend.

BTW I don't know who runs the wiki but it loads very slow for me. That may have been because I downloaded every page in the history and they throttled me though.

Yeah, I noticed that too.
124  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: FoxyCart now supports Bitcoin! (Beta Launch) on: March 22, 2013, 08:42:06 PM
We're finalizing some things with our 1.1 beta version. Though publicly available now, it will be the default version once we go live with it (probably next week). Hopefully we'll see our first Bitcoin paying customer soon... Smiley
125  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin Merchants Increasing on: March 22, 2013, 07:31:30 PM
I'm all about this. Hopefully more will use FoxyCart.com in the future. Smiley

We now not only support Bitcoin via Bitpay, but we accept it ourselves as payment as well. Our 1.1 beta version will probably go live next week.

If someone's interested in setting up an ecommerce store, please keep us in mind. I'm going to be so stoked the first time someone pays for a store with BTC.
126  Economy / Speculation / Re: Price down to 15.6 - How low will it go? on: March 20, 2013, 06:29:46 PM
Hah! Nice.

Once enough people make that mental shift and start buying and selling completely in mBTC... wow.

I need a seat belt.
127  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin and me (Hal Finney) on: March 20, 2013, 02:18:57 AM
Thank you, Hal. As a new member of the Bitcoin community, I'm standing on the shoulders of visionary pioneers like you. Your story is an inspiration, and I do think your legacy will be remembered many years from now as the history of this technology is preserved and celebrated.
128  Economy / Speculation / Re: btc123 in #bitcoin today: NYT journalist involved, $50M about to be spent??? on: March 19, 2013, 11:54:33 AM
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=42109;sa=showPosts

relevant;

Apparently btc123 is a miner who 1 year ago didn't really know what a wallet is, to having 100K, being vested in a bitcoin venture company and has the inside track on people dropping 50 million.  He has really come up in the last year.  Good on him!

And that's why this forum is awesome. Smiley I was curious if someone knew who this person was. How are you connecting user 42109 with btc123 or bitcoin_millionare?

Woah, just thought of something. Who's been in the media quite a bit lately calling themselves a "Bitcoin Millionaire"? Could btc123 be Max Keiser? If so, it would lend credit to his claim about having a connection at the NYT (along with some money to play around with). Regardless of how crazy his claims are, if they hold up, that means something. We've already come pretty close to $55 which is something claimed.

Interesting indeed.

130  Economy / Speculation / btc123 in #bitcoin today: NYT journalist involved, $50M about to be spent??? on: March 19, 2013, 02:01:36 AM
Everyone hanging out in #bitcoin on IRC today saw some pretty interesting stuff. As mentioned already, a post was made at Reddit claiming $1,000,000 was going to be dumped into BTC within 30 minutes. At the same time in IRC, btc123 was talking about working with a NYT journalist to demonstrate how the Bitcoin market can be manipulated and the real goal was to sell $120,000 worth of coins "into strength" created by the Reddit post.

btc123 went on to say some interesting things like $50M is "rumored" to be awaiting clearance to be spent on BTC (which is supposed to push the price to $850). Also talk of $55 by the end of the day, $100 within the month, $1,000 by the end of the year, $100,000 by 2015 and $1,000,000 by 2025.

Regardless of what happens, it was really entertaining to watch because the price did move. For those that missed it, here's what btc123 was saying.

Thought you might find it interesting.

131  Economy / Speculation / Re: is the goal of the manipulators to make the price boring? on: March 15, 2013, 01:46:26 PM
I was thinking about this the other day as well. I wonder how many speculators have been watching the near daily rise in price and holding off on their cash out (who would cash out if tomorrow it'll go up another dollar or two?). If the price does settle for a week or two, I wonder how many will decide, "OK, that was fun, I'll take my winnings now." The opportunity cost of leaving a rising bubble too early is real, so maybe they've been sticking around.

I personally don't think this is a bubble, and I like the arguments that say this currency can and should go much higher in value. That said, no one really knows.

Then again, you have all the Mt Gox accounts waiting to clear (probably new investors), so there could be new blood coming in soon to keep the price up.

Yeah, same here. Looks like they are still working through some glitches. I tried to do a withdrawal and it sent me to a page with a database connection warning Sad

I emailed the address listed on the site, but haven't gotten a response yet.

If I had a store to activate, I would.  Wink

Cool. Smiley Keep us in mind and tell your friends.

Congratulations! And a really nice blog post btw!

Thanks! It's quickly become one of my most popular ones. It has also started quite a few interesting conversations among the Nashville, TN developer community.

Nice!

Hmm... the support twitter account doesn't exist. I just tried emailing him. I sent .1 BTC and it thinks I have a full BTC. Odd.

Very cool idea though. If I could pay someone for lunch via a Tweet, that's pretty cool.

You can do that with Dwolla already, but I've never tried it: http://blog.dwolla.com/pound-dwolla/

This is new territory for us. We're taking a chance and hoping it will benefit everyone involved. If you are a web developer or you're working with a developer, please help us spread the word.

This is awesome. I sure wish E-Junkie would integrate Bitcoin into their service. I am going to have to quite patronizing them pretty soon unless they do something about it.

So at the least you will not lose current customers and at the best you will gain new customers and potentially market share from other carts that do not have Bitcoin integrated.

Thanks so much for your support, sunnankar. The first user that pays us in Bitcoin to activate their store will definitely put a big smile on my face. Smiley

137  Economy / Service Announcements / FoxyCart now supports Bitcoin! (Beta Launch) on: March 13, 2013, 08:10:57 PM
Less than a month ago, I posted in this fine forum to gauge the interest in our ecommerce company (FoxyCart) adding Bitcoin support.

Your response blew me away! I was amazed to see @WikileaksDude update the OP with a quote of my post along with a big red "Lets show some love to FoxyCart!" note. We definitely felt the love.

The more I learned about Bitcoin and this community, the more excited I got about supporting it! I even blogged about Bitcoin on my personal blog. We reprioritized some things on our end and have been working on supporting Bitpay as a payment option for our shopping cart platform as well as allowing customers to pay for FoxyCart services using Bitcoin.

We're really excited about this!

We literally just finished up the code today which allows stores on 1.1 to add Bitpay as a payment option. We also retooled our activation page so when you're ready to take your version 1.1 store live, you can pay us with Bitcoin. In addition, we're offering a 5% discount for those who pay for FoxyCart services in Bitcoin.

This is new territory for us. We're taking a chance and hoping it will benefit everyone involved. If you are a web developer or you're working with a developer, please help us spread the word.

As always, you can post in our forums (or here) if you have any questions or concerns: http://forum.foxycart.com

Thank you for your support.
138  Other / Off-topic / What do you think of Daniel Suarez books? on: March 12, 2013, 03:07:42 PM
http://www.thedaemon.com/

I really enjoyed reading The Deamon and Freedom TM. I've actually read them twice. The Darknet credits there seem so similar to Bitcoins. With Google glass and 3D printing becoming more popular (these guys got their kickstarter funded in a day), it seems like his ideas were ahead of their time and are becoming reality.

Have you read them? Did you like them?

Have you read Kill Decision? I haven't read that one yet, but it looks interesting.

OK, you can now go back to regularly scheduled speculation about who Satoshi is, what last night's fork will do to the price, and why asicminer is so dangerous.
139  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Why you shouldnt use mtgox ever again on: March 10, 2013, 09:09:25 PM
I've done a few trades on mtgox and was happy with the process. The slowest piece for me is waiting 3-5 days to fund Dwolla. If there are better options in the US, let's add them here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=151453.0

So far, for me, mtgox has been fine. But, I'm new to this and am still used to any money transfer taking forever. The more I use Bitcoin, the more my expectations will probably change. Smiley
140  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Self-Directed IRA investing in Bitcoin on: March 10, 2013, 08:51:35 PM
I had this exact thought over the weekend. With the stock market at an all-time high (being driven up before the big guys cash out and it crashes???), I'm not sure I want to put 2012 IRA funds into it (we still have until April 15th). Is there no current option for this? I'm not talking about putting in a huge amount.
